Matthew, Erin, and Alex dive into the Clone Wars' most mystical and mind-bending storyline: the Mortis arc. When Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka are summoned to a Force-rich realm where three powerful beings—the Father, the Son, and the Daughter—control the balance between light and dark, everything we thought we knew about the Chosen One prophecy gets turned upside down. These episodes introduce cosmic Force mythology that reverberates throughout Star Wars, from Rebels to Ahsoka, yet they leave more questions than answers about destiny, balance, and what it truly means to be the Chosen One.Questions We Discussed:What does the Chosen One prophecy actually mean, and did Anakin fulfill it?How do the Father, Son, and Daughter represent the different aspects of the Force? Why does the Father's passivity lead to disaster, and what does that say about the Jedi Order?Does "balance" mean equal light and dark, or the destruction of the Sith? How does Mortis connect to later Star Wars series like Rebels and Ahsoka? What makes these episodes so different from the rest of Star Wars storytelling?**************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. When TRON: Legacy hit theaters in December 2010, Disney wasn't just reviving an old IP—they were resurrecting one of the strangest, most ambitious sci-fi concepts ever made. The original TRON from 1982 was a groundbreaking attempt to visualize the inside of a computer at a time when most people hadn't even touched one. It imagined programs as people, code as architecture, and morality as circuitry. It was visionary—and it bombed.By the 2000s, though, culture had caught up. The Matrix had turned cyberpunk into mainstream mythology, and the neon-noir look of Blade Runner had become visual shorthand for the future. Enter Joseph Kosinski—a former architect with a designer's precision—who re-engineered TRON not as a hacker fantasy, but as a digital myth about creation, perfection, and control.Garrett Hedlund plays Sam Flynn, son of Kevin Flynn, the hero from the first film, who vanished decades earlier. Sam follows a mysterious signal and is pulled into the Grid—his father's virtual world, now ruled by CLU, a digital clone obsessed with “perfection.” Within minutes, we're deep in a story that mirrors Star Wars: the fallen apprentice turned tyrant, the exiled master, the reluctant heir, and a world that must be remade. Kevin Flynn is both Obi-Wan and Yoda—haunted and withdrawn. CLU is his Darth Vader, a creation corrupted by its maker's arrogance. But the movie also borrows Matrix DNA. The Grid works like a virtual prison where sentient programs fight and dream of freedom. Quorra, played by Olivia Wilde, is the last of the “isomorphic algorithms,” lifeforms that evolved on their own—straight out of Ghost in the Shell's questions about digital souls. The film isn't about coding; it's about consciousness.Kosinski builds this world like a cathedral. Production designer Darren Gilford fills it with clean geometry and luminous voids. The suits by Michael Wilkinson and Christine Bieselin Clark refine Syd Mead's 1982 designs into sculpted futurism. And Daft Punk's score—half orchestra, half circuitry—turns the film into an electronic symphony. Even those who forgot the plot still remember that sound.Critics complained it was cold, that the script sounded like it was written by people who'd never heard of Google. My son Jonas nailed it: “This sounds like nobody who wrote it had heard of the internet.” And he's right. The film imagines computers as isolated kingdoms, not the networked web we actually live in. It's a pre-internet vision dressed in post-Matrix clothing.Yet that's what makes it fascinating. TRON: Legacy isn't really about technology—it's about fathers, sons, and the danger of mistaking perfection for love. Kevin Flynn's failure isn't technical; it's paternal. He built a world in his image and abandoned it. CLU inherited his father's obsession with order, and Sam inherited his resentment. The conflict isn't between man and machine—it's between generations.Kosinski would revisit that theme in Oblivion and Top Gun: Maverick: the architect of the system confronting the cost of control. TRON: Legacy is the prototype—a meditation on beauty, regret, and the limits of design.Fifteen years later, it feels almost prophetic. CLU's dream of a flawless system sounds uncomfortably close to the rhetoric of Silicon Valley. The movie's warning—that perfection becomes tyranny—lands harder in an age of algorithms, A.I., and curated identities. Its message is simple: imperfection is the only thing that makes us human. So tonight, as we gear up for TRON: Ares, we're putting Legacy on trial—not as a sequel that glitched, but as a digital myth that might've been too early for its own time. It's Star Wars rewritten by a coder, The Matrix without the leather, and Ghost in the Shell with a heartbeat.Load the disc. Power up the light cycles. Let's head back to the Grid.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

The Geonosian Arc Deep Dive (Star Wars: The Clone Wars S2 E5-8)Erin and Matthew dissect one of Star Wars: The Clone Wars' most complex story arcs, examining the Second Battle of Geonosis and its haunting brain worm invasion. This four-episode storyline reveals disturbing parallels between wartime ethics and the Jedi's moral contradictions, while showcasing the contrasting mentorship styles that would ultimately shape the galaxy's fate.Key Discussion Points:What makes Barris Offee and Ahsoka's partnership so compelling? Their contrasting styles — methodical preparation versus creative improvisation — demonstrate how opposing approaches create an effective Jedi team dynamicWas Luminara wrong to accept potential sacrifice while Anakin fought to save lives? Their conflicting philosophies reveal fundamental ideological differences shaping the Order's futureHow do the Geonosians challenge our understanding of "enemy combatants"? The storyline draws uncomfortable parallels between Republic invasion tactics and real-world military ethicsWhy does the Republic treat Geonosian lives differently than droid casualties? Even respected Jedi like Ki-Adi-Mundi adopt concerning wartime rhetoric that dehumanizes their opponentsDoes Anakin's torture of Poggle the Lesser reveal his dark side tendencies? His actions raise crucial questions about whether desperate circumstances can justify abandoning core Jedi principlesHow does the brain worm horror storyline prepare Ahsoka for Order 66? Facing mind-controlled clones becomes crucial training for future betrayalWhat can we learn from comparing Obi-Wan's scientific curiosity to Anakin's aggressive pragmatism? The Mandalore Plot Arc: Obi-Wan's Lost Love and Anakin's Dark PathStar Wars: The Clone Wars' Season Two's Mandalore trilogy of episodes explores one of the most pivotal character arcs in Star Wars. This three-episode storyline introduces Duchess Satine, reveals Obi-Wan's romantic past, and showcases a chilling moment that foreshadows Anakin's fall to the dark side.Key Questions ExploredIs pacifism realistic in wartime? The hosts debate whether Duchess Satine's complete rejection of Mandalore's warrior culture was the right approach, or if her pacifism actually enabled the very violence she sought to prevent. How did Obi-Wan's forbidden love shape his mentorship of Anakin? The episode reveals that Obi-Wan once considered leaving the Jedi Order for Satine, raising questions about whether his own romantic struggles made him too lenient with Anakin's secret marriage to Padmé.What makes Anakin's cold-blooded killing so significant? When Anakin executes Senator Tal Merrick without hesitation, the hosts analyze how this moment perfectly captures his path toward becoming Darth Vader—choosing expedient violence over Jedi restraint.Should the Republic have respected Mandalore's neutrality? The discussion examines Palpatine's manipulation tactics and whether the Senate's willingness to ignore Mandalore's sovereignty mirrors real-world political interventions.Episodes covered: "The Mandalore Plot," "Voyage of Temptation," and "Duchess of Mandalore" **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. Hobbits are curious creatures. Simple taste, a love of “good tilled earth” and yet surprisingly courageous. And according to Dr. Christopher Snyder, they might hold the key to living the good life. This week, I had a delightful conversation with Dr. Snyder, medieval historian, Tolkien scholar, and author of Hobbit Virtues: Rediscovering Virtue Ethics Through J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.Chris's work as an academic intersects history, philosophy, and storytelling and even has taken him to the hallowed halls of Oxford University - Tolkien's alma mater.A few highlights from our conversation:Why Hobbit Virtues?Chris began writing this book in the aftermath of the 2016 election, during a time of cultural division. His thesis: virtue ethics can cut through polarization.By focusing on virtues like courage, humility, sacrifice, and friendship, we can find common ground. Chris argues Tolkien's writings are full of timeless virtues embodied in hobbits, elves, and men.Fellowship as a VirtueFriendship is something of a hot topic right now at Geeky Stoics. Chris didn't shy away from the controversy, arguing:* Tolkien modeled his Fellowship of the Ring partly on the Arthurian Round Table and partly on his own experiences at Oxford, where “fellowship” literally meant scholars eating, drinking, and learning together.* Unlike utilitarian philosophy (the greatest good for the greatest number), Tolkien's heroes make personal, sometimes costly, choices rooted in courage. Aragorn choosing to save Merry and Pippin instead of chasing Frodo isn't “efficient,” but it's the right thing to do.* Chris ties this back to our modern loneliness crisis. Where Aristotle emphasized the polis (the city), Tolkien and Lewis remind us that the quality of our friendships and fellowships challenge us to be our best selves.Heroism: The Anglo-Pagan and Christian EthicAnother fascinating insight: Tolkien blended ancient pagan heroic traditions with Christian ethics.* The “barbarian ethos” of the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons valued courage even when hope was lost.* Christianity introduced something radical: hope not reserved for emperors or warriors, but for the meek, the humble, and the forgotten.* Tolkien fused these in his hobbits: ordinary folk who, precisely because of their humility, are capable of great virtue. As Chris put it, when Aragorn bows before the hobbits at his coronation, that's Peter Jackson's interpretation of Tolkien's ideal of kingship - ensuring Frodo and company “bow to no one.”So What?At Geeky Stoics, we've often said that pop culture stories are modern myths, our entry point for Western philosophy. Chris reminds us that this wasn't accidental. Tolkien (like Lewis, like Lucas) used storytelling as a vessel for telling a greater truth. We remember Qui-Gon's line, “Your focus determines your reality” more than reading a philosophy textbook; we remember Sam carrying Frodo, or Obi-Wan telling Anakin, “You were my brother.”Stories shape our moral imagination.I'll end this where Chris began our conversation:“The elucidation of truth, and the encouragement of good morals in this real world, by the ancient device of exemplifying them in unfamiliar embodiments, that may tend to ‘bring them home.”-J.R.R. The fellas are back from vacation and have lots to catch up on! Jon recently returned from Europe. He bravely transformed into "vacation Jon," embracing the holiday spirit by not stressing about money and being ready to spend "enchanted money," despite usually being more frugal. He even endured intense cycling in Mallorca and had a run-in (kinda) with Obi-Wan. Meanwhile, Dave took his own family to Trail West, a Young Life camp in Buena Vista Colorado, describing it as a resort experience focused on family bonding, conveniently without televisions in the rooms. They also delved into their kids' music tastes. Dave, ever the music enthusiast, admitted to running a "regime" in his car, making his kids listen to '90s R&B and hip-hop. He uses these car rides as teaching moments for music history. They also dive deep on getting your teenager their first phone. Join us: http://dadville.substack.com Thanks to our sponsors! Dark science, cloning, secrets only the scoopers knew! We talk about the rumor that a second season of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi' is in development for Disney Plus. And as with any rumor about Obi-Wan, it gained a lot of steam. We get into why we are not buying this rumor at all, as we do not believe there is a second season of the series in the works. But we DO think Ewan McGregor will return as Obi-Wan in AHSOKA season 2, and Shin Hati actor Ivanna Sakhno spoke briefly about the “bigger” upcoming season. That plus tough questions in our segment WILL OF THE FORCE and we feature your submitted questions in #AskTheResistance! If you like having a great time talking Star Wars, you've found your home, because if you're listening to this broadcast, you are part of The Resistance!
