Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith Review

The Commentary Booth

The dark side rises as The Commentary Booth hosts, Jamie Apps and Corrina Mabey, conclude their journey through the Star Wars prequel trilogy with a deep dive into Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.Widely regarded as the strongest entry in the prequel saga, Revenge of the Sith delivers the tragic downfall of Anakin Skywalker, the rise of Darth Vader, the execution of Order 66, and the birth of the Galactic Empire. But does the film truly earn its reputation, or is it simply the best of a flawed trilogy?Jamie and Corrina break down the film's darker tone, Shakespearean tragedy, and iconic moments, including Anakin's fateful turn to the dark side, Obi-Wan's heartbreaking confrontation on Mustafar, and Palpatine's masterfully orchestrated rise to power. Along the way, they discuss whether Anakin's visions of Padmé ultimately caused the very future he was trying to prevent, the effectiveness of Order 66, General Grievous' brief but memorable role, and how the film bridges the gap to the original trilogy.Highlights Breakdown: - Why Revenge of the Sith remains the standout film of the prequel trilogy - The inevitability of Anakin Skywalker's tragic fall to the dark side - Breaking down Palpatine's galaxy-spanning manipulation and long-term strategy - The emotional impact of Order 66 and the destruction of the Jedi Order - General Grievous, his unique design, and the surprising origin of his cough - Whether the story would have worked better as a prestige television series - The pair also examine the movie's biggest weaknesses, from its lengthy runtime and uneven pacing to some questionable CGI choices that haven't aged particularly gracefully. - Is Revenge of the Sith the masterpiece many fans claim it is, or simply a satisfying conclusion to an otherwise inconsistent trilogy? Join us as we revisit one of the most important chapters in Star Wars history. This week's episode is brought to you byAustralian Wrestling CardsCheck out more great content from Pario Magazine on our website.-------------------------------------------------------------SUPPORT PARIO MAGAZINE & THE COMMENTARY BOOTH- PATREON- BUY MERCH- AMAZON PRIME VIDEO- TUBEBUDDY- Subscribe to AEW Plus using my code (q0yydoz) to earn $10 in FITE credit- Shop Online With Honey- Shop Online With SatechiMY EQUIPMENT- Elgato Facecam- Rode PodMic- Elgato Wave Mic Arm LP- Streamlabs Talk StudioFOLLOW JAMIE ON SOCIAL MEDIA- Twitter- Facebook- Instagram- TikTokFOLLOW PARIO MAGAZINE ON SOCIAL MEDIA- Twitter- Facebook- Instagram

Nobody Gets Off This Staircase: Krissy, Nathan, and Pete Take On The UntouchablesWelcome to this episode of The Most Excellent 80s Movies. Hosts Krissy Lenz and Nathan Blackwell are joined by special guest Pete Wright—podcast impresario and pod boss at TruStory FM—to dig into Brian De Palma's The Untouchables (1987), where the real question isn't whether Al Capone goes down, but how far a straight-arrow fed is willing to bend to make it happen. The central tension here is a juicy one: Kevin Costner's deliberately bland Elliot Ness surrounded by Sean Connery's full-voltage Obi-Wan energy and Andy Garcia's silk-jacketed handsomeness. Is Costner's wooden earnestness a character choice or just… Costner being Costner? The gang has feelings. Meanwhile, Pete makes a compelling case that David Mamet is at his very best when someone else is in the director's chair—and that De Palma's camera (hello, split diopter) transforms stilted period dialogue into something genuinely cinematic. What keeps the conversation sparking is the sheer audacity of the filmmaking: an improvised staircase sequence that became the movie's most iconic scene, Armani-clad gangsters that make everyone want to buy overcoats for a city they don't live in, and a baby carriage that shows up twice in two consecutive episodes of the pod. The episode stays premise-level throughout, so you can jump in clean and still feel every gut punch.TruStory FM | Membership (early, ad-free access + bonus content): Join | Socials: Facebook | Instagram | Bluesky | Learn more about the hosts: Neighborhood Comedy Theatre | Squishy StudiosIf you could only pick one scene from this movie to show someone who'd never seen it, which one would you choose—and why? ---Learn more about supporting this podcast by becoming a member. Maul is putting on his best "sage advisor" act, hosting a creepy tea ceremony and trying to recruit Devon by bonding over their shared trauma of murdered families and Republic betrayal. Devon isn't having it, utilizing Obi-Wan's signature backflip to escape his clutches, though Maul makes sure to take his half of the lightsaber back before she runs into the light.Meanwhile, detective Lawson is consuming an unhealthy amount of caf and racking up terrible dad points by abandoning his son Riley's "space lacrosse" game to deal with a shootout. The hosts also have a laugh at Lawson's drastic workplace conflict resolution skills: when his droid partner, Two Boots, tries to call the Empire for backup, Lawson literally just turns him off.Down in the criminal underworld, a decoy trap goes horribly wrong for Vario, leading Maul to predictably slaughter everyone and take complete control of the Pykes. Hunter and Jessica also break down the epic red-versus-blue lightsaber showdown between Maul and Uncle Daki, where we learn that violently kicking Maul in his robot knee is highly effective. With a menacing Star Destroyer arriving at the end of the episode, the hosts debate which Imperial officer is about to crash the party, prompting Hunter to aggressively nerd-out and remind Jessica that Director Krennic is ISB, not Navy.Join us on Facebook: The Purrgil Pod. In the Kairos moment, you will find yourself in an unknown place. And a person will appear. This person is known among storytellers as “The Old Man in the Woods.”His job is to prepare you for all the challenges you will face on the next segment of your adventure.Mr. Miyagi was the Old Man in the Woods for Daniel LaRusso in the Karate Kid.Obi-Wan was Luke Skywalker's first Old Man in the Woods, and Yoda was his second.Have you noticed how every James Bond movie begins with 007 visiting “Q”?“Q” is the armorer who supplies 007 with precisely the gadgets he will need to accomplish his next mission.“Q” is James Bond's “Old Man in the Woods.”Luke chapter 4 tell us of how Jesus, immediately after his baptism, spent 40 days in the wilderness of Judea. When he emerged from that wilderness, he revealed himself to the world. Verse 14 of that chapter says, “Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.”Would it be fair to say that Jesus spent 40 days with the ultimate “Old Man in the Woods” prior to doing what he famously did?John bar Zebedee sat next to Jesus during The Last Supper. He was the only one of Jesus' followers to witness the crucifixion. And was entrusted by Jesus – from the cross – to care for his mother, Mary, while He was away.John bar Zebedee, in chapter two of First John*, writes about the Three Stages of Life.He speaks of the Child, the Young Man, and the Old Man.I am writing to you, dear Children, because your sins have been forgivenon account of his name, and because you know the Father.I write to you, Young Men,because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you,and you have overcome the evil one.I am writing to you, Fathers, because you know Himwho is from the beginning.Because you know Himwho is from the beginning.Children spend a dozen or more years preparing to become the strong Young Men and strong Young Women who, full of zest and zeal and zip-a-dee-doo-dah, will face challenges, overcome difficulties, and leave their fingerprints on the world. And every one of them will need an advisor – an older and wiser friend – to counsel them, encourage them, and prepare them for what lies ahead.John bar Zebedee was not speaking of biological Fathers and Mothers when he wrote the letter that we call the book of First John. The people John calls “Fathers” are those who have already wandered the pathless forest and found their way to the other side. The people John calls “Fathers” are those who already “know.”The American Dream promises that when you have finished your journey and completed your task, you can recreate, luxuriate, and selfishly celebrate your success for the rest of your life. And that certainly remains an option, if it appeals to you. But I believe that it will not.I believe that you will choose to advise, encourage, and counsel the next generation who must blaze a new and different trail through a new and different wilderness than the one that you and I faced.I believe that you will find fulfillment in your occasional role as “The Old Man” or “The Old Woman” in the woods.Roy H. Williams*I consolidated and reorganized what you will find in chapter two of First John, but if you read it closely, I believe you will agree that my retelling is faithful to the message of that original text.

And probably yours too.In this episode: why stories are the software of the soul, the difference between a culture of fear and a culture of courage, why the villain is just the hero of the other side, and the moment Luke stopped being a farm boy and became who he was always meant to be.Find Eric's book Lions Raised as Lambs at lionsraisedaslambs.com. What if the most powerful thing you could do for your clients isn't to consult or coach them… but to mentor them? We are the ones who guide our clients to achieve their aspirations and become who they are striving to become! We come alongside clients who are in the middle of their heroic journey. So if the client is the hero, then who are we? We are the mentors. We are the guides. We are the Obi-Wans to their Luke Skywalker. Ever since I left Disney to start my own consulting business over 15 years ago, I have been obsessed with the heroic journey. The heroic journey is a framework of transformation that mythologist Joseph Campbell captured…. There's an individual living a normal life who encounters something unexpected that calls them to adventure. They hesitate, and then they meet a wise old man or woman as a mentor. It appealed to me at first because of how it captured what was really behind me leaving my high-profile job at Disney for my own business, which wasn't just a career transition but a total life transformation. My own heroic journey. But then there's another angle that really speaks to me, especially as I pivoted from consulting to the business mentoring I do now, and that's the role of the mentor who shows up at critical moments with a mix of vision for what is possible for the hero or heroine and tough love to step into it. This role is what I see as the true purpose of transformational consultants and coaches… mentor to heroes and heroines on their journey of transformation. We are the Rafiki to Simba. We are the Obi-Wan to Luke. And when I heard people at a local OD networking meeting talking about Yogi Mueller and his book The Great Slapping, I knew I needed to have him on the show. Tune in to fully appreciate and step into the mentor role with your clients. In today's episode, we're getting into: The role of the mentor in the “hero's journey” and how it reframes your work with clients at a deeper level What real mentorship requires: trust, truth, and the willingness to deliver feedback that actually creates transformation The difference between accidental mentors and intentional mentors, and why that distinction matters for your impact How to both become a better mentor and show up as a mentee who actually grows and evolves Chapters: 00:00 – Why Mentorship Is More Powerful Than Coaching 02:05 – Yogi's Journey: Disney, Career Shifts, and Reinvention 10:49 – Building a Business and Finding Your Voice 15:44 – Why Clients Buy You, Not Your Framework 19:08 – Mentorship vs. Transactions: A Different Value Proposition 23:00 – The Meaning Behind The Great Slapping 25:28 – The Mentors Who Shape Us (and Why It Matters) 29:39 – The Hero's Journey and the Role of the Mentor 33:38 – Why Consultants Have Authority Without Position 42:18 – The “Great Slapping”: Tough Feedback That Transforms 47:50 – What Makes a Great Mentee 53:21 – Why You Need a Mentor (Even If You're the Expert) 59:02 – Growth, Blind Spots, and Stepping Into the Mentor Role Next Steps: Get clear on the role you actually play Are you showing up as a consultant, a coach… or a mentor? Define how you guide your clients through their transformation journey so your positioning reflects the real value you bring. Refine your brand positioning to match your impact If your messaging doesn't clearly communicate how you help clients become who they are striving to become, you're leaving opportunity on the table. Your positioning should make it obvious that you are the partner who meets them in the middle of their heroic journey. Work with me to step fully into the mentor role If you're ready to elevate your positioning and show up as the guide your clients actually need, Betsy can help you clarify your message, own your role, and build a brand that reflects the transformation you create. Just as Asajj Ventress finally finds a community that wants her for herself, Grievous shows up and takes it apart — and that's only one of three Clone Wars arcs Matthew and Erin are dissecting this episode. They're covering Season 4 episodes 14, 19, and 20: Ahsoka's stubborn, sweet, and slightly chaotic mission to protect Lux Bonteri on Carlac; the brutal fall of the Nightsisters; and Asajj's first steps into bounty hunter territory alongside a twelve-year-old Boba Fett running his own crew. The Ahsoka half of the conversation centers on a pointed question — when does protective loyalty tip into willful stubbornness? Matthew lays out exactly where Ahsoka ignores every off-ramp Lux offers her, Erin traces what this episode sets up for both characters down the line, and they both agree that their goodbye at the escape pod is quietly heartbreaking. The Nightsister arc gets the weight it deserves: why losing them stings so much, what Mother Talzin's fate actually means, and how the defoliator finally gets its moment after seasons of setup. Then there's the train heist — a Firefly-flavored caper on a pressurized planet you can't land on, with Bossk, Latts Razzi, Dengar, Highsinger, and Asajj coming around to the idea that some cargo isn't cargo. Matthew and Erin dig into what makes Boba Fett work as a character here: funny and tragic in equal measure, with just enough humanity to make the right call when it counts.Mentioned in This EpisodeStar Wars Content DiscussedStar Wars: The Clone Wars — Season 4, Episode 14: "A Friend in Need"Star Wars: The Clone Wars — Season 4, Episodes 19–20: "Massacre" and "Bounty"The Book of Boba FettIf this episode reminded you how rich the edges of the galaxy can get, that's exactly the point — no Anakin, no Obi-Wan, no Jedi Council required. **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, an Ethical Panda podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. Darth Maul doesn't just survive; he conquers. With Matthew out of town, Alex and Erin take over Star Wars Generations to dig into Maul's arc across The Clone Wars Seasons 4 and 5: the Death Watch alliance, the takeover of Mandalore, and the cold, calculated murder of Satine — engineered specifically to break Obi-Wan.The hosts trace how Maul goes from drifting through space to ruling a planet and commanding multiple crime syndicates in a matter of weeks, and what it reveals about his obsession with Kenobi. They also reckon with Palpatine's stunning arrival on Mandalore — dual-wielding lightsabers, dissolving Savage to nothing — and what it means that the Emperor kept Maul alive on purpose. Plus: the tragic arc of Savage Opress, Almec's return as a puppet ruler, and the surprisingly deep roots these episodes put down for The Mandalorian, Rebels, and everything that came after.Related episodes: Maul's revival in S4 E21–22 · The Box arc with Embo, S4 E15–18**************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, an Ethical Panda podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. Anakin lets someone die to keep his cover. That's where The Clone Wars Season 4 goes in episodes 11–13, and Matthew and Erin are here for every uncomfortable moment of it. Erin brought these three episodes as her Season 4 picks for Star Wars Generations, the show where hosts with different generational lenses dig into every corner of the Star Wars universe together. The arc: Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and Rex go undercover to dismantle the resurgent Zygerrian slave empire, and almost everyone comes out of it a little darker.Matthew and Erin trace the arc's argument that Palpatine's war has been quietly breaking the Jedi this whole time; normalizing moral compromise, putting Jedi in situations they were never built for, and handing Anakin one impossible choice after another. They dig into the Zygerrian Queen's argument that Jedi are just slaves to the Republic, Obi-Wan's torture-as-strategy, Anakin's escalating use of lethal force, Anakin showing a flirting talent he never had in the prequels, and the devastating final question: if the Jedi once destroyed an entire slave empire, why did they never go back for Tatooine?Erin also brings a close eye to the Togrutan colonists—their distinct biology, culture, and what their vulnerability in this arc means for Ahsoka's relationship to her own people. And Rex closes it out with one of the best lines in the series. **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, an Ethical Panda podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. There's just something about Star Wars and hallways, isn't there? Hallways are often used to represent in-betweenness, where characters pause, confront tension, or undergo change, often evoking themes of isolation, fear, inner exploration, and transformation. Some of the most iconic scenes in Star Wars have taken place in hallways: we all know Luke's hallway scene, Vader's hallway scene, even Rey's hallway scene...but let's not forget about Obi-Wan's hallway scenes - because there are MANY - and there all epic! We counted as many "hallway fight scenes" we could go back and research, trying to dissect all of the halls that Obi-Wan has fought his way out of. How many, you ask? It's Star Wars Podcast Day 2026, and we're bringing the Star Wars community a very special episode with a new "What If" scenario. This time we're asking: What if Anakin had told Obi-Wan, instead of Mace Windu, that Palpatine was a Sith? What would have happened? Assuming Obi-Wan was not on Utapau and was instead on Coruscant at the time, what would the outcome have been? Would anything be different, or would it have remained the same? We propose many scenarios throughout this episode, but we also want to hear from you - what do YOU think would have happened? Was Anakin too far gone? Would Obi-Wan have died instead of Mace, and thus changed the entire course of Luke and Leia's futures? There's so much to ponder, and what better occasion than Star Wars Podcast Day to muse it over? (And of course we want to give a special thanks to our amazing patrons for providing the idea for this episode!)
