Imagine sitting behind bars for a crime you didn't commit, feeling the weight of the world's indifference on your shoulders. This is the stark reality we confront alongside Osagie Okuruwa of The Innocent Convicts, and Lynn Currier of Skweda Solutions, as they share their relentless pursuit of justice for the wrongfully imprisoned. We delve into the harrowing journeys of Jonas Francisque and David Yarde—two men entangled in a system reluctant to admit its errors. Their stories, marred by withheld evidence and retaliatory prison measures, are a sobering reminder of the significant work that lies ahead in the fight against wrongful convictions.Witness the intricate web of systemic issues contributing to these grave injustices, as our discussion broadens to uncover startling statistics and the profound impacts of racial disparities. You'll hear about the 'boys club' that shields the guilty, the power dynamics that undermine truth, and the courageous efforts to give the silenced a voice. We unravel the case of David, framed for a crime while the actual perpetrator, shielded by corrupt ties, walks free. The conversation extends to the psychological impacts of wrongful incarceration, emphasizing the dire need for legal representation and the often rocky road to reintegration. The final part of the episode reminds us that the pursuit of justice is as much about the heart as it is about the law. Through personal stories and heartfelt expressions, we see how cultural backgrounds shape the strategies used to combat injustice. From Lynn's vigorous advocacy to Osagie's composed, culturally rooted approach, we explore the multifaceted nature of activism and invite you to join the conversation. Your voice is crucial in the movement for a more equitable justice system, and we're here to tell you that every act of support brings us closer to that horizon.Find Mia On Social Media here.Listen and subscribe to the podcast: Apple Podcasts | Spotify

No amount of a guilt from choices made in past relationships can disrupt anxiously our future. Nothing truly matters but there's a moment presently where you can actively decide what does. Maybe you are going through a bad break up - Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber style or maybe you mistrusted someone - Tiger Woods style. Instead of focusing on what went wrong, It's Time to Look Deep Within and ask yourself "what role did I play in my own suffering?" This episode with our guest Emerald Osagie might be a tough pill to swallow as it reminds you that every person you meet is a pure reflection of yourself that requires more peace and endless healing. Guest Speaker - Emerald Osagie With her unique and soulful voice, Emerald Osagie captivates her listeners with her tone and relatable lyrics. Osagie grew up in a single-parent household surrounded by music. Listening to artists like Mary J Blige, Brandy, Patti Labelle, Amy Winehouse and more, all individuals influence her music to this day. Osagie is a singer-songwriter from Vancouver Canada who started making music in the comfort of her own bedroom. Starting with poetry, Osagie began turning poems into songs and using the guitar and piano to accompany said lyrics. After teaching herself how to produce and write songs she began to put out her music on streaming platforms on her own. In 2020, Osagie had been introduced to producers Hugh Olychick and Morgan Perry at Akashic Records where the three clicked instantly. Together the three of them began making music which then led to putting out songs. Osagie anticipates the release of more music.

What are the unique challenges facing the African entrepreneurial ecosystem? How is the rapid growth of fintech startups impacting the Nigerian economy? And what does it take to become a modern business leader? Hakeem Belo-Osagie, accomplished businessman, philanthropist, and educator, has the experience and expertise to tackle all three.Few business leaders understand the systemic challenges facing African finance as well as Hakeem Belo-Osagio. For three decades, he's been a driving force in the Nigerian economy, working across the energy, finance, and telecom sectors. He left a decade-long career in the Nigerian government for the life of an entrepreneur — and he hasn't looked back. But it didn't start well, as Belo-Osagie explains:“I think I mightily over-estimated my abilities, and my first entrepreneurial venture in finance was a complete failure, the bulk of which was entirely my own fault. It was a wonderful lesson. And I was able to pick myself up. The second venture of mine, which was a securities trading company, went very well. Subsequent to that, I staged the takeover of a large government-owned bank that I realized after buying was effectively bankrupt.”Managing a hostile workforce at that bank, UBA, and working with seemingly hostile government regulators has taught Belo-Osagie about the importance of empathy, patience, and courage. Being aware of how much your employees and regulators really understand about the situation is key to success. As he explains about the bureaucratic mindset, when government officials don't understand something, the instinctive reaction is to say no.Ultimately, Belo-Osagie defines success, especially in Africa, this way:“We have to measure how well we're doing, not by how many people are on the Forbes cover, or by how many billionaires Africa has, but basically what has happened to the bottom 40 percent. Business success has to enable people to make good sums of money, but it also has to be a system that lifts people out of poverty, large proportions of the overall population.”Listen to Belo-Osagie's turnaround story at UBA, his thoughts on the role of regulation in the future of fintech, and what it takes to be an effective leader … in Africa and beyond. As we said at the beginning of the episode, the Seed Transformation Program will open applications for the 2023 class on April 1st, 2020. "..we had hoped.." Luke 24:21 They say to be careful what you wish for. Sometimes we have to be careful not to hold on too tightly to what we wish for. In the last few days God has repeated a lesson over and over again regarding change. I'm learning, and I think as congregations we are learning, how to handle the unexpected and instead become joyfully flexible. Let me give you four examples all of which happened in the last few days. 1. Wellington: The annual outdoor church service at Wellington country park was cancelled because of bad weather. You could hear the collective grown going up from the Thames Valley, Bristol and Watford churches as well as others who would normally have attended. We love that celebration, and looked forward to it so much because it symbolises something positive about coming out of lockdown. However, God had other plans. 2. Watford: My wife and I were going to be away from the Watford church service this weekend, but everything was in hand. Danny was going to lead the service and share the communion talk. However, one of his children contracted Covid, and the whole household are isolating. On top of that, a number of other families are away on holiday. 3. Family weekend:At the time of writing, Penny and I ought to be in the car on the road travelling north. It's Penny's father and stepmother's 40th wedding anniversary celebrations as well as her stepmother's 80th birthday celebrations this weekend. There is a gathering of the clans in the north of England and we are meant to be there. However, we learned last night that Penny came in contact with a patient who tested positive for Covid. We are awaiting the results of Penny's Covid test to see whether we need to isolate or not. In the meantime we are kicking our heels at home. 4. Colossians 2 notes: As you probably know, I'm teaching a class on Colossians chapter 2 at a conference next month (details below). Whilst I was on my spiritual retreat I spent many hours studying Colossians 2 and recording my own thoughts as well as those from commentaries and other Bible resources. Returning home at the weekend I synchronised all my Bible notes across my devices and promptly lost all the work I did last week. Some glitch in the software meant that those notes were unrecoverable. I spent many hours on the phone to the software company. They did their best, but no joy. Each of these events caused me some angst. Truthfully, I was more than just frustrated about losing my Colossians 2 notes. I was angry. I'm not entirely sure it was righteous anger, either. I felt rather like the two people who met Jesus on the road to Emmaus. When describing what had been happening, they said "we had hoped...". Such pathos in that phrase. They had hoped for something. As have I this week. God had a different and better plan for them, and I must trust that he has a different and a better plan for me and the people around me. How have I found peace over these four sources of frustration? I prayed over each one. Here's what I came up with. It might seem a little intellectual, but it works for me! 1. Wellington: We conducted the service on zoom. Part of my sermon included breakout rooms. Who's to say that some of the conversations that happened in those breakout rooms enabled spiritual breakthroughs for people which would otherwise not have happened if we'd met in the flesh. 2. Watford: It is entirely possible that what Osagie and Oge plan to share will have a greater impact on the people present then anything I or Danny would have managed. This is a tremendous opportunity for Osagie and Oge to serve, but also for the congregation to hear from different voices. 3. Family weekend: Perhaps we've been preserved from a serious accident on the motorway today. Certainly Penny and I will enjoy time together and possibly over the weekend if we need to continue to isolate. 4. Colossians 2: In going back over my commentaries and Bible resources for a second time perhaps I will see things that I missed the first time. I have the opportunity to deepen my thinking and understanding of a tremendous text. Whatever I might have forgotten in terms of personal insight, surely I can trust God to bring back to me if it truly matters. God is, I believe, teaching me the joy of flexibility. It's a bit like acknowledging that when we are weak we are strong because then it's the strength of God which works through us and not our own. When my hopes are compromised it allows God to do something which I would not have anticipated.  I get to stand back and observe his grace in action. Have you had some disappointments this week? Can you see the way in which God might use the change of circumstances and plans for his glory and the benefit of his kingdom? Even if you can't see it, by the eyes of faith we can trust him that his plan is a good one. He will bring good out of frustration, disappointment and inconvenience. Let's review what has gone up on the site and my YouTube channel recently...... “Unity to all things” | Class 4 | What have Sundays to do with the mission? “A new thing” | Post-COVID church | Episode 8 “A vaccine for life” | Revelation 22v3-6 | Malcolm Cox “A new thing” | Post-COVID church | Episode 9 – “We had hoped” The near future  Working on plans (together with Andy Boakye and Douglas Jacoby) for a UK & Ireland teaching programme based on the Athens Institute of Ministry. We hope to launch in January 2022. Continuing work on a lesson on Colossians 2 for the Tallinn conference in August - flights and hotel are now booked in faith!  Please come to the conference if you - at least virtually if not in person. Hoping to receive confirmation that I can start a Masters in Theological Studies at the London School of Theology. I had a good time at the virtual post-grad open day as well as a helpful conversation with the course supervisor. God bless, Malcolm

The Federal Government has vowed to sanction returning passengers who abscond from quarantine facilities, including possible prosecution of such individuals. The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, believed such persons constitute a major risk to the country's health system. He raised concerns over reports from port health officials that some passengers from high risks countries have continued to abscond from facilities where they were quarantined.Osagie noted that the world has witnessed an increase in reported cases of COVID-19 across a significant number of countries, due to the high transmissibility of the Delta Variant. He explained that the threat included importation from countries that were popular travel destinations for Nigerians, including the United Kingdom, United States, UAE, France, and Turkey, which have a high incidence of virulent strain.
