Manifesting The Presence of GodApostle Emmanuel IrenThe Bible with regard to the presence of God is context specific.- The Omnipresence of God refers to God being everywhere at once (Psalm 139:7-8NKJV)- The omnipresence of God keeps us accountable- The omnipresence of God applies to all men and creatures while the indwelling presence of God applies only to those who believe in Jesus (John 14:23) As believers He has made us His temple and dwelling place.Even though God is everywhere at once He doesn't manifest everywhere. There is a training required to manifest the presence of God.God's answer to every need of man is the presence.God doesn't need to break chains.Chains break off on their own in the presence of God. (Acts 12:7 )God doesn't recognize limitations. Jesus went where no one will go in Matt 8:28 There is a level of authority that empowers you to go where no one can go.Learn to be conscious of the manifest presence of GodIf you have the in-dwelling presence of God you can stir up the manifest presence of God. It takes consciousness. You must lose satisfaction with the ordinary life. How to manifest the presence of God▪️By Knowledge- Have a reorientation of your understanding. This will change your expectations.▪️Doing God's work-Spiritual gifts get stronger with use. If you don't use it you won't grow in it even if you have it.▪️Demonstration - You will never see the power that you are not ready to demonstrate. Learn to put power to the test with confidence. Don't play it safeTalk back at the devil. Our words are not cheap.

This week we welcome TSgt James Hodgman to discuss transitioning from military to civilian life. James is a former Security Forces airman, and current public affairs photographer, for the United States Air Force. Anticipating his separation from the military, James wanted to set himself up for success. To that end, he applied and was accepted into the Department of Defense SkillBridge program. The DOD SkillBridge program is an opportunity for Service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service. SkillBridge connects Service members with industry partners in real-world job experiences. SkillBridge provides service members an invaluable chance to work and learn in civilian career areas. James walks us through how to apply to the program, and also discusses how SkillBridge, coupled with civilian networking, will lead to a smoother transition into a civilian career. We discuss the many pitfalls that military members face when getting ready to separate. He talks about the programs offered through government, and civilian, outlets, and why unfortunately many soon-to-be-civilians fail to take advantage of these opportunities. We also discuss the role NCO's and command play in setting our service members up to be successful when they leave the military behind. Finally, James enlightens us on a new program being used by military branches to combat suicide, the SAFETALK program. Through SAFETALK, service members learn how to prevent suicide by recognizing signs, engaging someone, and connecting them to an intervention resource for further support. James was the first NCO to teach the program at Patrick Space Force Base, FL. So if you are ready to kick off the new year, and your civilian career, with a bang...this is the episode for you.For more information about the DOD SkillBridge Program go to https://skillbridge.osd.mil/index.htm.For more information about SAFETALK go to https://www.livingworks.net/safetalk or check out this article about James and his SAFETALK experience https://www.pointsoflight.org/awards/air-force-retiree-changes-lives-with-suicide-prevention-training/I want to take a moment to thank each and every person that donated and shared our fundraiser for HunterSeven Multi Cancer Screening Kits. TRIGGER WARNING: Please note that this episode contains a discussion of suicide, self-injurious behavior, depression and/or referrence of other mental health disorders that may act as triggers. In the United States, suicide is the second leading cause of death for children and adolescents between the ages of 10 and 24. Suicide rates have been increasing in recent years, with the rate for girls aged 15-19 doubling between 2007 and 2015. While boys are more likely to die by suicide, girls are more likely to attempt it. There are many factors that contribute to pediatric suicide, including mental health disorders, bullying, social media, and family stressors. Teenage girls are particularly at risk for depression, which is the most common mental health disorder among adolescents. Depression can be a precursor to suicide and lead to self-harming behaviors, such as cutting. Here are some hard core facts: There are more suicide deaths than motor vehical accidents There are more suicide deaths than homicides In this episode, Dr. Gaggino speaks with Sarah Mead and Erica Espinoza, from Gryphon Place (the local crisis center in Kalamazoo Michigan). They give us their unique perspective on working with people in crisis. [00:30 - 10:16] Opening Segment Dr. Gaggino introduces us to Sarah and Erica Erica tells us what it takes to be a crisis volunteer There's been over 20 million calls since the hotline started in 2005. Erica tells us the different ways to de-escalate a situation [10:17 - 12:54] 988 is not a new program…. They just gave us an easier way to get to the hotline Myth: 988 goes directly to the police… Fact: 988 is actually made to reduce the amount of emergency involvement 988 is there to de-escalate the situation and not involve the police There was a 45% increase in volume the week that 988 was implemented compared to the week before (that's a 66% increase from the same week last year) [12:55 - 15:10] Some Things To Look Out For Risk Factors: Depression or substance use disorder, traumatic brain injury, chronic pain, any serious health conditions Risk Factors: bullying, unemployment, any sudden drastic change in a person's life. (i.e. divorce, a death of a loved one, a suicide), a history of childhood trauma or a family history of suicide Warning signs: They might talk openly about killing themselves or use language like I'm feeling hopeless. I feel overwhelmed. I just don't know what to do. I don't see another way out. Nobody can understand the situation that I'm in and they may talk about the unbearable pain that they feel. Warning signs: increased use in alcohol or drugs, if they're buying a gun or stockpiling pills, if they start saying goodbye or giving away priceless possessions. [15:11 -29:30] Asking someone if they're having thoughts of suicide will not encourage them to kill themselves Why we should not use the phrase, “Committed Suicide” Why we should not refer to it as a “failed” or “unsuccessful attempt”, One of the goals of SPAN is to educate the gun retailers on how to pick up on the warning signs of someone who may have thoughts of suicide. Hi I'm Kim Borrowdale and I'd like to welcome you to the third season of A World Where LivingWorks. We know LivingWorks today as a global leader in suicide intervention. But do you know how it all started almost 40 years ago? In 1983 to be precise. Coming together from diverse backgrounds including social work, psychiatry, and counseling, four men—Richard Ramsay, Bryan Tanney, Roger Tierney, and Bill Lang—had a radical idea: what if they could empower everyone to help save lives from suicide? Setting out to address the lack of effective skills among both laypeople and professionals, they developed the precursor to the current LivingWorks ASIST program and a Train-the-Trainer model to disseminate it. Our third season of A World Where LivingWorks is an extra special one as I talk with LivingWorks co founder, Richard Ramsay. In each episode we'll discuss the evolution of LivingWorks and suicide intervention practices – where we've come from and where we're going when it comes to saving lives from suicide and supporting people to live well. In this episode we’re chatting with Anne Moss Rogers, who is TEDx storyteller, the 2019 YWCA Pat Asch Fellow for social justice, author of the award-winning book, Diary of a Broken Mind, and an Emotionally Naked® motivational speaker who helps people foster a culture of connection to prevent suicide, reduce substance misuse, and find life after loss. Despite her family’s best efforts, Anne Moss’s 20-year-old son Charles died by suicide on June 5, 2015, after many years of struggle with anxiety, depression, and ultimately addiction. Anne Moss started a blog, EmotionallyNaked.com, and chronicled her family’s tragedy in a newspaper article that went viral. After receiving a message from a young lady who wrote that one of her blog posts saved her life, Anne Moss sold her digital marketing business and followed her purpose of preventing suicide and reducing the stigma of addiction and mental illness. She has been featured in the New York Times and was the first suicide loss survivor ever invited to speak at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). Anne Moss is also a trainer for the 4-hour evidence-based training called safeTALK. Anne Moss and I recorded this conversation before COVID changed all of our lives, but it’s amazing how everything we talked about is not only still relevant, I think it’s even MORE relevant now. The rates of depression, anxiety, and risk of suicide are growing at alarming rates, and COVID has only intensified these issues for teens in particular. I invited Anne Moss to come back on the show recently so we could talk about how COVID is impacting teens now, and how people can best support their teens in this trying and unpredictable time. We share a lot of resources throughout our conversation, but I’ve included even more in today’s show notes in case you are worried about your teen and need some extra support. Lockdown has been incredibly difficult for all of us but if you're struggling with your mental health, the past few months will have been exceptionally difficult. In Kinvara, the town has come together to promote mental health support and to give local businesses a lift. Kinvara Alive, which was set up in 2016, offers residents of the area information on how they can access the services they need along with training courses such as SafeTalk. As Kinvara re-opens after lockdown, they have come up with a brilliant imitative to support local businesses and reward locals who have gone above and beyond during the past few months. Sean Glynn from Kinvara Alive spoke to Dermot and Dave about the initiative and why breaking the stigma is so important. How do we help people in despair overcome emotional pain and reconnect to purpose through an on-line intervention? Connection is the answer. Technology is the tool. Our on-line technologies can have a whole spectrum of impact on our behavior — from helpful and healthy to harmful and hurtful, and the data we derive from our engagement with technology tells a powerful tale. When “13 Reasons Why” came out on March 31, 2017, I didn’t know anything about it. Five days later it had swept the globe, and the suicide prevention community became very concerned. By July 2017, a JAMA report looked at Google search trends during the 19 days after the show launched. Many terms related to suicide were significantly higher than expected and included increases in help-seeking (e.g., “suicide hotline number” was up 21%) and suicidal thoughts (e.g., “how to commit suicide” was up 26%). It wasn’t until April of 2019, however, did researchers conclude, “The release of 13 Reasons Why was associated with a significant increase in monthly suicide rates among US youth aged 10 to 17 years. Caution regarding the exposure of children and adolescents to the series is warranted.” Google has partnered with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, so searches for phrases like “I want to kill myself” bring up graphic and phone number for this hotline. Facebook has a “report” and “support” functions for friends who are concerned about another’s suicidal on-line posting. Now, through the power of artificial intelligence, they are building algorithms that help them predict who is at risk for suicide. Brad Marsden (Gitsegukla Reserve within the Gitksan Nation in Northern British Columbia) is a Life Coach, Residential School Counselor and Facilitator. He graduated from a Wellness Counselor Program in 2008 and has been trained in SafeTalk as well as Suicide Intervention at the Crisis Center of British Columbia. He provides interactive workshops called, "Impacts of Residential School & Colonization Workshop" for non-native service providers so they can have a better understanding of Native people. Brad is an Inter-generational Survivor of the Residential School, raised by his grandparents who went there. Although he never attended the school himself, he describes being raised by the same beliefs, attitudes and behaviors’ that his primary caregivers and community experienced in Residential Schools. All of his important early childhood development was greatly influenced by their experience in those schools. "It is my goal to help my people move forward in their lives by helping them and society become more accurately aware of the history of the Residential School and the effects that it had and still has on our communities today, and more importantly our children," said Brad. Brad Marsden Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brad-marsden-394b086a/ Please note: Canada and the U.S. had a parallel system of Residential Schools, but they are more commonly known as Boarding Schools in the U.S. Residential Schools Derived from Truth & Reconciliation Commission of Canada Residential schools for Aboriginal people in Canada date back to the 1870s. Over 130 residential schools were located across the country, and the last school closed in 1996. These government-funded, church-run schools were set up to eliminate parental involvement in the intellectual, cultural, and spiritual development of Aboriginal children. During this era, more than 150,000 First Nations, Métis, and Inuit children were placed in these schools often against their parents' wishes. Many were forbidden to speak their language and practice their own culture. While there is an estimated 80,000 former students living today, the ongoing impact of residential schools has been felt throughout generations and has contributed to social problems that continue to exist. On June 11, 2008, the Prime Minister, on behalf of the Government of Canada, delivered a formal apology in the House of Commons to former students, their families, and communities for Canada's role in the operation of the residential schools. In 2004 Debbie Knight lost a close friend to suicide. Her loss was just one case in a community which was becoming all too familiar with an issue being labelled as epidemic in the Mackay Region. As often happens, she and a group of friends got together with a view to raising awareness around suicide prevention. They did some fundraising and created the beginnings of a powerful and highly regarded organisation, Grapevine Group Mackay. Debbie has been with this group from the very beginning and in the past 13 years Grapevine has become a foundation stone which underpins the entire mental health, wellbeing and suicide prevention movement in the Mackay region. The group's focus - and that which Debbie has campaigned strongly and consistently for - is education. In partnership with local community suicide awareness and fundraising body Run For Mi Life, as well as LifeLine and the nationally renowned Living Works, Grapevine brought to Mackay the highly regarded safeTALK and ASIST programs in 2014. In conjunction with the lobbying and research work conducted behind the scenes, Debbie was also the key driver in designing, constructing and then effectively disseminating a series of powerful awareness campaigns which were strategically published across mainstream, digital and social media platforms. The most prolific of these were the Grapevine Group's Christmas Awareness Campaigns. Through the pages of newspapers and via digital and social media platforms, everyday people in the Mackay region had unprecedented and easy-to-understand information about the signs and triggers, risks and times of need within the community. At a time when few media organisations would consider broaching the subject of suicide prevention around Christmastime, this campaign initially launched in 2011 amid a stong spike in the local suicide rate as the "12 Days of Suicide Prevention for Christmas". This campaign was then nominated as a finalist in the 2011 PANPA Newspaper of the Year National Advertising Campaign Award, an award recognised throughout the Asia-Pacific. Media organisations and other businesses engaged in the campaign adopted email signatures and produced a suite of in-house collateral. During the Christmas 2016-17 Campaign, these display advertisements and a suite of accompanying memes were viewed over 30,000 times. It was real, it was positive and it was compelling. It has stood the test of time and vast changes in the Mackay region's economic and social disposition. It has also been the backbone for Grapevine Group's website and exceptional social media presence. Hers is a commitment fuelled by a belief that every single member of a community has the right – and should have the means – to be empowered to understand and help those in need. And in a regional setting – where the rules of metropolitan, state-wide and national coverage are diluted and seldom applicable – making connections and maintaining them over time and social change, is not just vital, but in this case, it is life saving. #ManyVoicesOneGoal #suicideprevention
Original Recording Date: March 8th 2017 Guest: Shawna Percy, Suicide Prevention Trainer My guest this episode was Shawna Percy, and we chatted about the role suicide and suicide prevention has had in our lives, and the importance of conversation, support, and trainings such as "safeTALK" A blurb about Shawna: "Shawna is proud to be a part of the global, evidence-based, standardized suicide-prevention training programs by Livingworks. As a certified ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and safeTALK (Suicide Alertness For Everyone) trainer Shawna is part of a team of professionals who are putting suicide-prevention skills in the hands of everyday people. Like CPR, safeTALK is life-saving training for all. Like First Aid, ASIST is the next level of life-saving intervention training that equip participants to intercept a suicide plan."
We discuss safeTALK and other suicide prevention programmes with Stanley Kutcher, Olivia Kirtley and Alys Cole-King.
