He has worked with top industry leaders to optimize their businesses, maximize their productivity, create sustainable performance, improve their health, and elevate their leadership skills. In addition, he has helped companies turn ideas into multi-million dollar revenue-producing opportunities, along with assisting large corporations to target strategic partnerships and investors. Prior to Alex's successes, he battled over 8 years of crippling Major Depression that left him on disability, unemployed, and penniless. Doctors told him he should accept his situation and move on because they believed there was little hope he would get better. With a lot of grit, Alex defied the odds and soared out of the ashes into a life filled with unique accomplishments. Outside of business, Alex is an outspoken mental health advocate. He does yearly fitness feats to raise awareness and money for mental health. In May 2021, Alex wore a 24 lbs vest and completed 1000 pull-ups, 2000 push-ups, and 3000 squats in 6 hours and 8 minutes, while raising $37,000. In May of 2023, Alex is planning to break the world record for most vertical feet rock climbed in 24 hours, being over 29,130 feet. It’s about getting in the zone, feeling the flow and delivering 100 percent. SHOW NOTES This episode of Crina and Kirsten Get to Work is about bringing your A-game. From a good bra to preparation and performance, Crina and Kirsten have some ideas about how to show up as your best self. Peak performance is about being in the flow, and is described as an optimal state of consciousness - a lack of self- absorption, where the self vanishes, time flies, and optimal performance is achieved. “It’s an efficiency exchange,” says American University in Beirut neuroscientist Arne Dietrich, who helped discover this phenomena. “We’re trading energy usually used for higher cognitive functions for heightened attention and awareness.” This is one of the main reasons flow feels flowy—because any brain structure that would hamper rapid-fire decision-making is literally shut off - and performance, well, just works. When do we need to bring our A-game? An interview, public speaking, a presentation, saying no, asking for a raise, pitching a new client, interviewing Cheryl Strayed on your next episode of Crina and Kirsten Get to Work. What does peak performance look like? It looks like Anne-Marie Faiola, founder of Brambleberry, Soap Queen, Author of Best Day Ever and all around amazing human. Anne Marie brings these key elements to show up as her best self:Over prepare, the big and small thingsEvaluate your work - she says for the first few years she cried every time she watched episodes of Soap Queen because she wished she had done better.ReFrame your negative emotions - butterflies mean you care Anne Marie says some people do not want to try hard because they are afraid of being nerdy - or of failing. But if you do not do your best, you do not know what you are capable of. Peak performance also looks like being your mental, emotional and physical best - and here are some other ideas. Mental VisualizeLearn to control your thoughts According to research, peak performance is achievable when you have A clear goalOngoing feedback so you know how you’re doing: remember Anne Marie watching her Soap Queen videos?A challenging taskFind your “pre-game ritual.” Create your own pre-game ritual – something that helps pump you up and makes you feel positive before walking into a big meeting. Emotional Positive emotions are much more likely to drive high performance. And if you do not have positive emotions, well, Fake it til you make it. PhysicalRemember the power poseLots of waterGood night’s sleepKnow the players. Much stress comes from not knowing, and the more knowledge you walk in with, the better you’ll feel. Humanity has been chasing peak performance and consciousness since history was first recorded. What are the three approaches we can take to achieve peak performance? What are the top-down and bottom-up approaches to optimization? What allows us to tap into enlightenment? On this episode, Dr. Carlos Rivas talks about his work, and how we reach the pinnacle of the human experience. You start to realize that as soon as you change your physical state, your consciousness shifts and that will shift your biochemistry. -Dr. Carlos Rivas Takeaways from this Episode Health optimization medicine (the biochemical approach), flow state optimization (elevating consciousness to enhance your wellness) and finding purpose and meaning in life are the 3 components that drive your optimized self to your peak performance. Illness medicine is broken if left alone as it is. There is a lot more to health and medicine than represented in the sick care model, and people will continue to suffer if they don't recognize this. The spiritual enlightenment component makes itself more readily available when you’re optimized. The three pillar approach is about intervening with a patient’s biochemistry as bio-harmoniously as possible to make that intervention helpful, not harmful. Ultimately this is about one goal: reaching the pinnacle of the human experience and identity, which is peak performance and consciousness. Optimization is essential for us physically, but it's also about finding your purpose in life and redirecting your optimized self in that direction. It's up to us to make the most of what we've been given.
