In this week's episode of "Complete Disarray With Jamie Ray,” we welcome David Morris from Double Windsor Knot Photography for an in-depth exploration of the cult classic sci-fi series "Fringe." Morris, known for his keen visual analysis and pop culture insights, joins via Zoom to unpack the show's intricate narrative, groundbreaking scientific concepts, and lasting impact on television storytelling. The conversation promises to delve into the series' unique blend of episodic mysteries and overarching mythology, exploring how "Fringe" challenged traditional science fiction storytelling. Morris will likely discuss the show's innovative approach to parallel universes, fringe science, and the compelling character dynamics between Walter Bishop, Peter Bishop, and Olivia Dunham. Listeners can expect a comprehensive discussion that spans the show's five-season run, examining its narrative complexity, visual storytelling, and the ways it pushed the boundaries of network television science fiction. Morris's background in photography may provide unique insights into the show's visual aesthetics and cinematographic techniques. Jamie Ray and David Morris will explore how "Fringe" balanced procedural elements with a deeply emotional and complex serialized story, making it a standout series in the late 2000s and early 2010s television landscape.#fringeseries #oliviadunham #fringetvshow #fringe #peterbishop #joshuajackson #annatorv #fringeonfox #fringeturkey #fringedivision #fringetv #walterbishop #johnnoble #fringefan #fringeedit #yabancidiziler #bilimkurgufilmleri #yabanc #dizireplikleri #astridfarnsworth #lincolnlee #ninasharp #henriettabishop #williambell #charliefrancis #lledesfbi #gene #davidrobertjones #like #johnscott

Today, I welcome Roger Spitz back to the show. Roger is a futurist, author, and president of Techistential, which is a strategy consultancy. He's also the chair of The Disruptive Futures Institute, which is a global education hub. For the purposes of this episode, however, he is the author of a new book, Disrupt with Impact - Achieve Business Success in an Unpredictable World, which is all about helping to guide us through uncertainty and unpredictability. Roger was in London at the end of last year and we met up and recorded this fabulous episode in an external studio. We covered lots of ground with this chat, including what Roger means by “disruption 3.0”, uncertainty, AI, some of the shortcomings of our education system, and what leaders can and should be doing to disrupt with impact. Imagining After Capitalism (Triarchy Press, 2025) is the culmination of a decade-long exploration of what comes next after capitalism. It leverages previous work in developing foresight methodologies, which are featured in two previous books: Teaching about the Future and Thinking about the Future (2nd edition), both with Peter Bishop. It also leverages my work in identifying long-term values shifts—which are pivotal to After Capitalism—that are highlighted in ConsumerShift: How Changing Values Are Reshaping the Consumer Landscape. Arguing that the absence of compelling positive alternatives keeps us stuck in a combination of fear, denial, and false hope, he offers three “guiding images” for the long-term future: an environmentally driven Circular Commons, a socially and politically driven Non-Workers' Paradise, and a technology-driven Tech-Led Abundance. Imagining After Capitalism argues “first things first.” Let us first decide where we want to go before building detailed plans for getting there. The three “guiding images” are not the answers, but are intended to provoke discussion about the possibilities. The book offers an alternative to the prevailing doom and gloom and suggests there are indeed positive alternatives out there and it's time to get started on crafting a different path to the future! Andy Hines brings more than three decades of experience as a futurist to the Imagining After Capitalism work. He has explored the future from multiple vantage points. He is currently an Associate Professor and Program Coordinator at the University of Houston Foresight program. He also spent a decade as an organizational futurist, first with Kellogg's and then Dow Chemical. His consulting futurists roles included Coates & Jarratt, Inc., Social Technologies/Innovaro and currently his own firm Hinesight. Learn more about your ad choices. E, assim, é a vida no esporte. Funciona a simbiose técnico/atleta. É antecipar as tendências e programar as ações.
Computer simulations of dinosaurs has yielded an accidental discovery ... their tails wagged when they walked. Historically it has been accepted that the giant creatures' tails were a counterbalance, helping to keep them steady. Studying locomotion in fossils has always been tricky .. but a research team at the Royal Veterinary College in London has found dinosaurs' tails actually moved and helped them to walk efficiently. The aim of the study was to find out how they walked and ran and how high they could jump. Dr Peter Bishop, who is currently a research fellow at Harvard University in the US - tells Nine to Noon's Kathryn Ryan high tech simulations revealed their tails could actually swing up and down.

Understanding Religion in the 21st Century Sunday, July 11, 10:30am Peter Bishop Though not all WES members self-identify as “religious,” religious Humanism is the closest label we have for a community like this one that gathers for mutual support, discerning values, raising children, and marking life passages without regard for creed or dogma. The old ways of understanding what religion is will have to change if communities that provide this kind of support and connection are to survive. WES member Peter Bishop will offer his perspective on how communities gathered under the AEU and UUA umbrellas are leading this necessary change, based in his studies of philosophy.

HOW MANY COULD THEY KILL? AND WHY? Could a Virus Rewrite Your DNA? But what about the genetics claim in "The Transformation," that the virus mutates the host's DNA to change its host into monsters? There is a speck of real science in there, says Harvard University virologist Donald Coen. Retroviruses, the class that includes HIV, use the DNA in their host cell to replicate, then leave behind their genetic information in the host. "There are lots of examples in animals," he says. And Coen says it is possible to manipulate retroviruses. Some scientists hope to use them as a vehicle to get genetic material into cells, he says, by piggybacking the useful material onto the virus and then allowing the virus to copy its genetic material into the cell. However, that kind of research is in early stages, Coen says. And though Peter Bishop says during "The Transformation" that a person would need to know cutting-edge genetics to create the killer virus, Coen says the Fringe scenario is far past the real capabilities of current genetic engineering- -no virus could rewrite your entire genetic code. Finally, this week, Fringe might have put to bed--at least for a while--one of our favorite bits of suspect science: the memory tank. Agent Olivia Dunham had some of her former partner John Scott's memories transferred into her own mind, and in previous episodes she's gone back in the tank to seek more answers from him. This happens again in "The Transformation," but at the conclusion Walter Bishop says her mind has expelled the last of Scott and her brainwaves are back to normal. So hopefully Dunham won't have to stick electrodes to her forehead and get back in the water anytime soon. Could a Designer Virus Turn You Into a Monster? Many countries around the world (including the United States, Iraq, former Soviet Union, United Kingdom, Japan, and Canada) used to have biological weapons programs, and some others (China, North Korea, and Iran) are suspected of continuing to develop biological weapons. Biological warfare involves the use infectious pathogens or toxins from living organisms to cause death or disability in humans, animals, or plants. Deployment of a weapon can range from something as simple as contaminating an adversary’s water source with feces or a dead carcass, to spraying a highly sophisticated engineered pathogen across a battlefield. Although we often consider humans as the targets, bioweapons can also be employed with devastating economic effects on animals or plants. Just imagine the potential impact from wiping out an adversary’s pig production or wheat fields on its ability to feed its army. More here PREEMPTOR NEWS Intro*1. Pandemics, disasters, recessions tend not to re-set things, but they do amplify pre-existing trends. This is what Peter Bishop, a leading planning academic, predicts will happen. Tech will keep driving globalisation as economic activity is separated from geography. We will return to cities, but some workers may be forced to work in isolation. We will 'recalibrate' how we use cities, but they are robust enough to assimilate changes. Maybe in future we'll value quality over quantity rather more.
Smart Agency Masterclass with Jason Swenk: Podcast for Digital Marketing Agencies
How do you make decisions when there are multiple agency partners? Can you truly grow without second-guessing the big decisions? How do you grow an agency with multiple partners? Should you build from within or use acquisition as a growth strategy? When there are many decision-makers at an agency it can be a challenge to agree on the best way to grow. But with mutual respect and a yin-yang of strengths, it can work. In today’s episode, we’ll cover: Can things really work with multiple agency partners? Using acquisition as an agency growth strategy. Deciding on when and which agency to acquire. How to get through an economic recession. I chatted with Peter Bishop, Partner and Director at ZGM Marketing Partners in Canada. He has been in digital marketing for over 20+ years and, as it turns out, we share a ton of old-school experience on the evolution of design software. But, now as a partner at ZGM, he is on the show to share what he’s learned about sharing partnership with four others as well as how they use acquisition as a growth strategy. Can Things Really Work with Multiple Agency Partners? Having one owner can be great or it can be awful. We all have biases but when it comes to agencies, they are led by creative souls and that is usually the backbone of an agency. As Peter points out, creatives aren’t usually awesome at finance or other business skills. Having a partnership that balances each other out is usually beneficial. Peter’s agency partnerships include a creative person, financial person, an accounts person... so everyone brings something different to the table. There are rarely problems among them, but when there is a problem it’s a big problem. How To Get Through Partner Disagreements Peter says the agency partnership is like any relationship. When there’s mutual respect you can get through anything. Although ZGM has five partners, there is one partner who has stepped away from day-to-day involvement and is more like a silent investor. The partners involve him in the bigger decisions and Peter says, he’s become like the wise grandfather figure. He is more objective and also calls bullshit on them when necessary. Every partnership needs this type of unbiased person, board of advisors, or even a mastermind who is looking out for the best interest of the agency. We can’t do it all by ourselves, so having others helping and guiding is the best way to build and grow. Holding things close to your chest is no longer the way to do business. When we all share, we all develop and grow. Providing advice to others can also provide clarity for yourself. Using Acquisition as an Agency Growth Strategy ZGM has used acquisition as a growth strategy and Peter attributes much of their growth to this decision. They've acquired three agencies so far, and each time there’s an acquisition he feels significant growth in clients and staff, as well as in top-line revenue. Culture is key and it’s one of the first things ZGM looks at before considering an acquisition. It sounds cliche it’s true - culture is everything. Agencies can’t pay top dollar for talent but culture is where they compete. Top talent can be drawn to the right culture. And, your agency co-workers usually become like a second family. So a culture that fits is key in making sure the family functions. So when merging or acquiring another agency, culture fit is one of the most important aspects. How to Decide When and What Agency to Acquire ZGM has been very strategic about its acquisitions. They have found that when they want to go into a new direction -- more product-based accounts, for example -- doing it organically isn’t realistic. So their growth strategy has been focused on acquisitions that can help them break barriers that afford them growth in new areas. Getting Through the Current Economic Recession Now more than ever, our clients are leaning on us to be creative and solve their business problems. Peter and partners have told their team, instead of looking for bigger spends or more money, ask how can you help clients get through this crisis. We need to help clients figure out ways to pivot their business and survive the economic recession. Bottom line, money isn’t everything. Now is the time to be human.

Guest: Peter BishopLocation: Sacramento, California, USA Interview Date: Saturday, 28 March 2020Interviewed By: Peter Hayward in Melbourne, Australia.Dr. Peter C. Bishop is the Exec Director of Teach the Future, Inc., having retired as an Associate Professor of Strategic Foresight and Director of the graduate program in Foresight at the University of Houston.Peter Bishop speaks about how a new era is possible, though not guaranteed; this historical moment breaks the frame, opening up the possibility for innovation, or we might snap back to how we were before. The disruption is already causing a great deal of risk and suffering and the financial debts will burden future generations. There is potential for radical change in education with a recognition of the importance of public health and planning for a world of increased frequency and depth of disruption. The COVID-19 pandemic is moving rapidly around the world. Extinguishing our expected futures and opening up the possibilities of different ones.At FuturePod we have decided to speak to our previous guests, to ask them what this particular moment in time means to them, and more importantly, to us all.

Futures Intelligent Leadership: Innovative Wisdom for Future-Ready Leadership
Today I am joined by Peter Bishop and Edward Tenner. Dr. Peter Bishop is the Exec Director of Teach the Future, an initiative to encourage and support educators to introduce futures thinking into their classes and schools at all levels. He is a retired Associate Professor of Strategic Foresight and former Director of the graduate program in Foresight at the University of Houston. Dr. Bishop specializes in techniques for long term forecasting and planning, and he has published two books on the subject: Thinking about the Future (2007) and Teaching about the Future (2012),Edward tenner is a distinguished scholar at Smithsonian institute and associate professor at Princeton. He is the Author of several books including “Our Own Devices: The Past and Future of Body Technology” and “The Efficiency Paradox: what big data can’t do” - released in 2018. He is a writer, speaker (TED), and consultant for newspapers, magazines, colleges and universities, research-oriented corporations, philanthropies, and professional associations.About This EpisodeAfter re-listening to this episode I am reminded of a series of books I loved to read as a child called “Choose Your Own adventure.” Each book followed a unique storyline and the reader was give the unique opportunity to choose which path a character should take at certain points in the story. Once they made a choice the reader would turn to the page the reflected that choice and continue the story. This model of storyline development was fascinating to me as a Child, because it allowed me to have some control over the direction of the story, and it also helped me realize that the past, present and future were not part of a single trajectory, rather there were multiple trajectories into he future. I could go back and read a “choose your own adventure book’ several times and each story would be similar, but different. One point that Peter makes in the dialogue is that the 20th century mindsets about the future as part of a single timeline are not accurate and they are no longer useful in the current climate of rapid change. The future has many paths and the future s always uncertain. As Edward points out, Futurism is a tool kit for flexibility, that allows us to envision and prepare for possibilities on top of possibilities, that the future presents. If you are interested in exploring, the role of history in the future, how to use history for the future, restoring the uncertainty of the past to realize that history was a series of choices within an uncertain future, just like today. How a feeling about the future drove Jeff Bezos to take the risk to create Amazon.com. Why information that is more difficult to access is being neglected, and how that is influencing the future. Why the current mindsets of education is limiting the future. The difference between transmitting knowledge and developing skills. The curse of knowledge, and why we need more uncertain leadership. Then this episode is for you. Let’s listen. Find out more at www.haku.global

Multithreading is not the only approach we use to deal with concurrency. Single-purpose processes is our next frontier. Processes, that don't have shared state. To coordinate, they pass messages to each other. We can build complex concurrent systems using simple principles of CSP or Actors model. We break down programs into independent processes, each performing some specific job, talking to each other. How they talk to each is the point of contention here. That's where the differences between CSP and Actors arise.
