Ronnie Laws is an award-winning tenor saxophonist and composer whose career has, since the early 1970s, straddled the worlds of jazz and R&B. Since 1975 he has placed seven albums in the Top 200 -- including his 1975 Blue Note debut Pressure Sensitive -- as well as tracks and albums in no less than six other categories. He has worked as an in-demand session man and live musician with a who's-who of jazz and R&B greats including Ramsey Lewis, Gregory Porter, B.B. King, George Duke, Quincy Jones, Stanley Jordan, and dozens more. Laws, the younger brother of flutist Hubert Laws, is the product of a musical family. Two of his sisters, Debra and Eloise, are also professional singers. Born in Houston, Texas, Laws began teaching himself to play the alto saxophone at the age of 11. While his first love was baseball, a serious eye injury ended those dreams early and he focused on music, which he studied in high school, at Stephen F. Austin State, and later at Texas Southern University, where he switched to tenor, earned a degree, and developed a progressive mastery and technique. In 1970 he moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of a musical career. He woodshedded with the Jazz Crusaders (Hubert had played with them in the '50s) and especially Hugh Masakela. His early gigs in the city were with pianist Walter Bishop, Jr., Doug Carn, and on his brother's CTI recordings. In 1972, he joined Earth, Wind & Fire for 18 months and was, in effect, its first saxophonist, playing both tenor and soprano; he played on the album Last Days and Time. In Los Angeles, he made the acquaintance of Donald Byrd. The two became friends and Byrd got Laws signed to Blue Note. His 1975 debut, Pressure Sensitive, got serious radio play despite landing at 73, and yielded the enduring jazz-funk classic "Always There." It has been covered and/or sampled by well over 100 artists. Laws was on his way. With his other '70s work -- 1976's Fever, Friends and Strangers, and Flame -- which boasted his first cross continental 12" hit "All for You," Laws established himself as a workhorse studio musician, playing on recordings by Ramsey Lewis, his sister Eloise, Arthur Adams, Gene McDaniels, and Wayne Henderson, to name a few. In the '80s, Laws was an international festival and club draw. Three singles from his first three albums all went gold, as did their respective long-players. Despite the fact that he is often characterized strictly as a "smooth jazz" artist, Laws might be the first instrumentalist to score hits in the emerging "quiet storm" subgenre of R&B. It's not as though guitarist Bobby Broom hasn't had meaningful encounters with pianists during his long and distinguished career. Still in his teens, the Harlem native got his startas a performing artist playing clubs with Charlie Parker alumni Al Haig and Walter Bishop, Jr. Dave Grusin contributed keyboardsto (and produced) Broom's first two albums. And James Williams was instrumental in advancing his career, while Dr. John provided six years of meaningful employment. Then there were Chicago greats Willie Pickens, Jodie Christian, Earma Thompson, and Ramsey Lewis, who all supported him through the years. But it had been many years leading up to his revelatory new album, Keyed Up – a tribute to great pianists featuring a future great in Justin Dillard – that Broom hooked up with a keyboardist on one of his recordings. Having established himself as one of the day's great guitarists in bass and drum trio settings, why did he expand to a quartet this time around? Have a listen and find out!Support the show

Along with signings and photos, Noble will also take part in a spotlight panel on Saturday. Two other special guests will also receive similar treatment: Sam J. This episode is about my top tv shows. It was very hard to choose the tv shows because I have too many that I really enjoy watching over and over. Here are them: #10 Heroes Ordinary people around the world discover they have super powers. Their lives intertwine as they work together to prevent a catastrophic future. #9 Fringe FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham is assigned to the bureau's Fringe Division, in which she investigates unusual crimes and occurrences. Assisting Olivia in her investigations are once-institutionalised scientist Dr Walter Bishop, his jack-of-all-trades son, Peter, and FBI Junior Agent Astrid Farnsworth. #8 Chuck Computer geek Chuck Bartowski opens an e-mail that has been encoded, subliminally, with vital government secrets, triggering a massive download of critical information to his brain. With assassins and international terrorists eager to nab Chuck's noggin, it falls to Maj. John Casey and his partner, CIA agent Sarah Walker, to protect the government's newest and most-unlikely secret agent. #7 House At fictional Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey, prickly genius Dr. Gregory House tackles health mysteries as would a medical Sherlock Holmes, all the while playing mind games with colleagues that include his best friend, oncologist James Wilson. House, an acerbic infectious disease specialist, solves medical puzzles with the help of a team of young diagnosticians. #6 CSI: Miami A Florida team of forensics investigators uses cutting-edge scientific methods and old-fashioned police work to solve crimes. Horatio Caine, a former homicide detective, heads a group of investigators who work crimes amid the steamy tropical surroundings and cultural crossroads of Miami. #5 The Blacklist For decades, ex-government agent Raymond "Red" Reddington has been one of the globe's most wanted fugitives. But then he agreed to work with the FBI to catch his "blacklist" of mobsters, spies and international terrorists -- on the condition that he must work with profiler Elizabeth Keen. Red's true intentions -- choosing Liz, a woman with whom he seemingly has no connection -- are unclear. Does Liz have secrets of her own? Red promises to teach Liz to think like a criminal "to see the bigger picture," whether she wants to or not. #4 The Big Bang Theory Mensa-fied best friends and roommates Leonard and Sheldon, physicists who work at the California Institute of Technology, may be able to tell everybody more than they want to know about quantum physics, but getting through most basic social situations, especially ones involving women, totally baffles them. How lucky, then, that babe-alicious waitress/aspiring actress Penny moves in next door. Frequently seen hanging out with Leonard and Sheldon are friends and fellow Caltech scientists Wolowitz and Koothrappali. Will worlds collide? Does Einstein theorize in the woods? #3 The Punisher After exacting revenge on the people responsible for the deaths of his wife and children, Frank Castle uncovers a conspiracy that runs deeper than New York's criminal underworld. Now known as the Punisher, he must dig deep into the conspiracy to discover the truth about injustices that affect more than just him and his family. Assisting the vigilante in his quest to fight criminals are best friend Billy Russo, who runs private military corporation Anvil, and former NSA analyst Micro, who shares common enemies with Castle and helps him as part of a so-called marriage of convenience. #2 Daredevil The first in a planned series of shows detailing the Marvel universe, "Daredevil" follows Matt Murdock, attorney by day and vigilante by night. Blinded in an accident as a child, Murdock uses his heightened senses as Daredevil to fight crime on the streets of New York after the sun goes down. While Murdock's day job requires him to believe in the criminal justice system, his alter ego does not follow suit, leading him to take the law into his own hands to protect his Hell's Kitchen neighborhood and the surrounding communities. #1 Arrow When presumed-dead billionaire playboy Oliver Queen returns home to Starling City after five years stranded on a remote island in the Pacific, he hides the changes the experience had on him, while secretly seeking reconciliation with his ex, Laurel. By day he picks up where he left off, playing the carefree philanderer he used to be, but at night he dons the alter ego of Arrow and works to right the wrongs of his family and restore the city to its former glory. Complicating his mission is Laurel's father, Detective Quentin Lance, who is determined to put the vigilante behind bars. The Flash At 11, Barry Allen's life changed completely when his mother died in a freak accident and his innocent father was convicted of her murder. Orphaned Barry later becomes Detective Joe West. Now a crime-scene investigator, his dedication to learn the truth about his mother's death drives him to follow up on every new scientific advancement and urban legend. When his latest obsession - a particle accelerator heralded as a world-changing invention - causes an explosion, it creates a freak storm and Barry is struck by lightning. THE RAGGED EDGE RADIO BROADCAST WORLDWIDE TEN MILLION FIERCE PDF LIVE NOTES & ARCHIVES MARCH 22nd 2021 THE FUTURE OF WAR PANDEMICS, PESTILENCE AND BIO ENGINEERED WEAPONS HOW MANY DRONES WOULD IT TAKE TO DELIVER A VIRUS OR BIO WEAPON? HOW MANY COULD THEY KILL? AND WHY? Could a Virus Rewrite Your DNA? But what about the genetics claim in "The Transformation," that the virus mutates the host's DNA to change its host into monsters? There is a speck of real science in there, says Harvard University virologist Donald Coen. Retroviruses, the class that includes HIV, use the DNA in their host cell to replicate, then leave behind their genetic information in the host. "There are lots of examples in animals," he says. And Coen says it is possible to manipulate retroviruses. Some scientists hope to use them as a vehicle to get genetic material into cells, he says, by piggybacking the useful material onto the virus and then allowing the virus to copy its genetic material into the cell. However, that kind of research is in early stages, Coen says. And though Peter Bishop says during "The Transformation" that a person would need to know cutting-edge genetics to create the killer virus, Coen says the Fringe scenario is far past the real capabilities of current genetic engineering- -no virus could rewrite your entire genetic code. Finally, this week, Fringe might have put to bed--at least for a while--one of our favorite bits of suspect science: the memory tank. Agent Olivia Dunham had some of her former partner John Scott's memories transferred into her own mind, and in previous episodes she's gone back in the tank to seek more answers from him. This happens again in "The Transformation," but at the conclusion Walter Bishop says her mind has expelled the last of Scott and her brainwaves are back to normal. So hopefully Dunham won't have to stick electrodes to her forehead and get back in the water anytime soon. Could a Designer Virus Turn You Into a Monster? Common microbes used as biological weapons include: Biological Weapons - Description and Potential List (thoughtco.com) Whether or not someone believes these conspiracy theories, it is instructive to consider whether the SARS-CoV-2 virus would make a so-called “good” biological weapon. Many countries around the world (including the United States, Iraq, former Soviet Union, United Kingdom, Japan, and Canada) used to have biological weapons programs, and some others (China, North Korea, and Iran) are suspected of continuing to develop biological weapons. Biological warfare involves the use infectious pathogens or toxins from living organisms to cause death or disability in humans, animals, or plants. Deployment of a weapon can range from something as simple as contaminating an adversary’s water source with feces or a dead carcass, to spraying a highly sophisticated engineered pathogen across a battlefield. Although we often consider humans as the targets, bioweapons can also be employed with devastating economic effects on animals or plants. Just imagine the potential impact from wiping out an adversary’s pig production or wheat fields on its ability to feed its army. More here PREEMPTOR NEWS Intro*1. The Monica Kade Podcast: Health, Mindset, Career & Lifestyle
“When I fell into acting for the first time in my life I felt complete. And not only did I feel complete but I felt this is something I can do really well - and that I adore - and that's the magic that happened to me; and the magic that's still there.” - John Noble, The Moment HQ podcast What a quote! Now that's the words of someone who's following pure love for what they do. It's clearly evident. What I love about this quote is that it serves as a beautiful reminder for us all that when you're doing what you love and you are being moved by an inner energy force, you are truly living your dream and expressing your gift into the world. The world needs more of that. Now, I've had the pleasure of knowing John Noble, Australian Theatre, Film & Television Actor for the past 13 years, and while we both lived in New York I got to spend quite a bit of time with his family, who his kids I'm very close with. I used to take some of his acting classes when I was a teenager, which were a lot of fun and which is exactly his précis for the craft - “Just have fun, just have fun. Without that it's just a dilemma.” I admire John's incredible ability to take the love he has for his craft and channel it through the various characters he plays; he's truly remarkable to watch. John has starred as Denethor in Lord of the Rings, where his career unexpectedly shot to international success. He later then starred as Dr. Walter Bishop in the science fiction TV series, Fringe. I remember watching these with his kids, Daniel, Sam and Jess in New York - as we all marvelled at his brilliant characterisation, while eating take out. More recently John has played in Sleepy Hollow and Elementary as Sherlock Holme's father. If you're an aspiring actor, a John Noble fan or someone who's simply got a creative mind there's something in this interview for you. John and I have a chat about THE ACT OF LOVE: SUCCESS, ACTING & CHASING YOUR DREAMS. Mina testiklar vandrade aldrig ner. Min penis förblev liten. Min röst kom aldrig i målbrottet. Jag fick varken skägg eller pubeshår. Det berättar Jimmy Scott i biografin Faith in Time The Life of Jimmy Scott av David Ritz. Hela upplagan av skivan Falling in Love is Wonderful dras tillbaka efter bara några dagar. Han gör covers på Nothing Compares 2 U (Prince), Jealous Guy (John Lennon), Almost Blue (Elvis Costello), och Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word (Elton John & Bernie Taupin). Andra artister verksamma här är t ex Count Basie, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, Sammy Davis, JR, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, The Jackson 5, Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix, Billie Holiday, Lohn Lee Hooker, Lena Horne, Etta James, B. B. King, Patti LaBelle, Marvin Gaye, Little Richard, The Four Tops, The Miracles, Ike & Tina Turner, The Supremes, The Temptations och Muddy Waters. Fr a när hon gör sina lesbiska standup-akter. 1931 samarbetar Moms Mabley med den erkända afroamerikanska författaren, dramatikern och antropologen Zora Neale Hurston i pjäsen Fast and Furious: A Colored Revue in 37 Scenes. Moms spelar huvudrollen. På TV-bolaget CBS är hon "The Funniest Woman in the World Den roligaste kvinnan i världen och tar upp vassare ämnen än sina komikerkollegor; nämligen rasism, kvinnors rättigheter och homosexualitet. De TV-bolag där hon medverkar blir utsatta för stark kritik från patriotiska och ärkekonservativa grupper på grund av de progressiva budskapen i Mableys texter och sånger. Vid 75 års ålder blir Moms Mabley den äldsta personen någonsin att få en hit på USA Top 40-listan. Det är med låten Abraham, Martin and John som handlar om Lincoln, Luther King Jr och Kennedy. Även Bobby Kennedy nämner hon i texten. Ståuppkomikern och skådespelerskan Nour EL-Refai och musikern Renée Baker från Chicago medverkar i programmet. 12:03 Nina Simone - Wild Is The Wind Album: Don'T Let Me Be Misunderstood Kompositör: Dimitri Tiomkin Bolag: MERCURY 12:04 Moms Mabley, Leroy Glover - Abraham Martin And JohnAlbum: Abraham Martin And John Kompositör: Dick Holler Bolag: MERCURY 12:06 Jimmy Scott, David Newman, Junior Mance, Billy Butler, Eric Gale, Ron Carter, Bruno Carr - Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child Album: The Source Kompositör: Trad Från Usa Bolag: ATLANTIC 12:10 Jimmy Scott, David Newman, Junior Mance, Billy Butler, Eric Gale, Ron Carter, Bruno Carr - Day By Day Album: The Source Kompositör: Sammy Cahn, Axel Stordahl, Paul Weston Bolag: ATLANTIC 2:12 Jimmy Scott, Paul Gayten - Everybody's Somebody's Fool Album: Live In New Orleans Kompositör: Ace Adams, Regina Adams, Gladys Hampton Bolag: SPECIALTY 12:13 Louis Jordan - Caldonia Album: Greatest Hits Kompositör: Fleecie Moore Bolag: OFFICIAL 12:15 Jimmy Scott, Lionel Hampton - I Wish I Knew Album: Lionel Hampton Kompositör: Harry Warren Bolag: GRP 12:18 Jimmy Scott, Fats Navarro, Charlie Parker, Walter Bishop, Tommy Potter, Roy Haynes - Embraceable You Album: Complete Live At Birdland Kompositör: George Gershwin Bolag: RLR RECORDS 12:20 Jimmy Scott - Angel Eyes Album: All The Way Kompositör: Matt Dennis Bolag: SIRE 12:22 Jimmy Scott, Ray Charles - Someone To Watch Over Me Album: Falling In Love Is Wonderful Kompositör: George Gershwin Bolag: RHINO RECORDS 12:25 Jimmy Scott, Angelo Badalamenti, Kinny Landrum, Alvin Flythe, Ken-Ichi Shimazu, Vinnie Bell, Ron Carter, Brian Kirk - Sycamore Trees Album: Twin Peaks Kompositör: Angelo Badalamenti Bolag: WARNER BROS 2:29 Jimmy Scott, Michael Kanan, Hilliard Green, Victor Jones - Nothing Compares 2 U Album: Holding Back The Years Kompositör: Prince Bolag: BIRDOLOGY 12:32 Jimmy Scott, Michael Kanan, Hilliard Green, Victor Jones - Nothing Compares 2 U Album: Holding Back The Years Kompositör: Prince Bolag: BIRDOLOGY 12:33 Moms Mabley - Monologue Album: Moms Mabley Live At The Greek Theater Kompositör: ? David Mack: Section 31: Disavowed. Doctor Bashir’s entanglement with the Federation’s secretive rogue agency has not turned out well for him over the years, and he even sacrificed his career for a chance to infiltrate the group and destroy it from within. Now, in a direct follow-up to the events of The Fall, Section 31 is back to take Bashir on one more ride to save not only the Federation but the entire galaxy. And to do so will mean crossing over into the Mirror Universe. Hey ATA Listeners, sorry for the long delay on this week's and last week's podcast episode but my family has been going through a sad time over the past two weeks due to my Grandma passing away at the age of 88 so obviously this milestone of Across the Airwaves reaching its 30th episode is going to be dedicated to her. Thankfully, when there came a day, a day unlike any other, where this podcast host found himself facing a tragic event, fighting the foes no single podcaster could withstand, my two co-hosts combined forces superhero team up style to make this podcast episode possible. And on that day, where the ATA Avengers were born, Nico and Michael both helped me pull this episode off by Michael joining me to cover this week's reviews of Chuck, Smallville, and Supernatural and Nico joining me to review Castle, Bones, and Fringe. Yes, and as a special feature of our 30th episode you get to hear Michael's review of the excellent Smallville episode Beacon in an audio format. However, don't count Nico out because this episode also contains his much anticipated thoughts on the moment heard around the world for Bones Fans everywhere as well as our discussion over Fringe's bombshell with Bolivia that includes some insight from Dr. Walter Bishop himself. Pianist Walter Bishop Jr. was born in New York of West Indian parentage like many Jazz players (Sonny Rollins, Randy Weston,Arthur Taylor etc.) in 1927 and died in 1998. Bishop was the most swinging and hardest driving of the piano players who came out of the Bud Powell school of playing and there were many. Powell was to the piano what Charlie Parker was to the alto saxophone. Bishop was on the major league Jazz scene in New York from 1947 and played with Art Blakey, Miles Davis and was Charlie Parker's pianist from 1951 to Parker's death in 1955. Ironically Bishop never recorded an album under his own name until this one in 1961. It came out on a small independent label called Jazztime and was called "Speak Low". Walter Bishop displays his wares in fine fashion here with solid backing by Jimmy Garrison on bass and Granville (G.T.) Hogan on drums. The great Canadian Jazz icon Don Thompson told me back in 1961 to buy this album as he said "this is what a piano trio should sound like!" I agree and I think you will too!
