My friend was telling me about the investment he'd bailed out of just before it really took off. He said, "I have a habit of doing that." I said, "Why?" He said, "Well, it kind of runs in the family." And then he told me an unforgettable story. He said, "My dad was approached by the founders of ServiceMaster, which is, of course, this huge multi-million dollar corporation in America. And they were neighbors, and they came to him when they were just starting and they said, 'Hey, would you like to get in on the ground floor and help us get started?' He said, 'Well, guys, why don't you just go clean your carpets. No thanks.'" Well, that wasn't all. Another one of their neighbors was a man named Ray Croc. You might recognize that name; he was the founder of McDonald's! He came to this same man and said, "Would you be interested? We're opening our fourth little hamburger thing called McDonald's Golden Arches. Would you like to get in on the fourth store?" "No, I'm not into hamburgers." He came back to him another time and said, "Hey, it's going pretty well. You know we're opening our seventh one. Would you like to get in on it?" "No, I'm not interested." How many times do you think he asked, "What did I miss?" I guess you just add those to the list of life's "if only's," huh? Of course, you've got your own list. Maybe not opportunities to make a million, but a lot of missed opportunities. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Life's Most Expensive Regrets." Our word for today from the Word of God is from Ephesians 5, and I'm going to read verse 15. "Be very careful about how you live, not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil." I like those words, "making the most of every opportunity." Those turn out to be if you don't take them, life's "'if onlys' ... if only I had." It's interesting that this challenge to not miss opportunities is followed by a description of a spirit-filled family life: husbanding, wifeing, parenting, childing. And those are the "if only's" that you can't afford to miss. How many times have I had a parent say to me, "Ron, what can I do to get my rebellious son or daughter back?" Maybe they've been rushed to the hospital with a suicide attempt, they're actively rebelling; breaking their parent's heart. Well, for me to give them the really honest answer, I might have to say, "What I'm going to tell you is something that needed to be done years ago." Remember? There was a song year's ago, Cat's In the Cradle and the Silver Spoon. Dad was too busy, and then when he had time later, the son was too busy for his Dad? See, each day is filled with opportunities to listen, to hug, to debrief, to teach, and they'll never come again. It's true in marriage, too. Days without being close become weeks, and months, and years. And one day you wish you could have those days back. They're gone forever. The Bible says, "Make the most of every opportunity." Your son or daughter is feeling feelings now that really need your perspective. But this will pass and become a part of who they are, whether they get to share it or not. They're making choices, they're making friends, they're developing a sense of humor. They're trying to find out where God fits in everyday life. They need you there. There'll be many things more urgent but none more important. Everyone else will scream for your attention; they'll just whisper. My friend watched his father miss some golden opportunities with golden arches. But that was only to make money. We're talking here about the opportunity to mark lives. And it happens in the little golden moments that don't seem that important at the time. "If only I had taken the time." When it comes to your marriage partner, your children, your parents, those are life's most expensive "if onlys."

Business Rules - BRT S04 EP21 (183) 5-21-2023     What We Learned This Week We are the Average of the 5 People we Spend the most Time with.  80/20 Principle – know what levers to pull What Business Are You In? – Business need to Understand what their real Objectives are, How they Serve their Customers, What Problem they Solve   Disruption - History never repeats itself, but it often rhymes A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week Marketing needs Clear Messaging Information + Contacts = Means Everything in Business to get the Deal     Just like there are Laws in Physics, there are Rules in Business. Violate them at your peril….   Rule #1: You Are Who You Associate With Jim Rohn famously said that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with.  Care full who you let into your inner circle. Take advice from those who have accomplished what you seek.   Rule #2: 80/20 Principle Focus – what are your priorities?   Leverage Dominos – there are usually just a few key moves to create success Learn to Say ‘No', choose wisely what you spend time on     Rule #3: What Business Are You In? https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/what-business-you-matthew-battaglia/ ‘What Business Are You In?' This the famous question from the classic business consultant, Peter Drucker. This was one of Drucker's key questions for management to figure out, the who, what, where, why and how of their business. The point of the question was to really challenge business owners to understand what their real objectives are. Don't assume you know what business you're in. Drucker loved to ask executives “What business are you in?” because they often missed the mark, defining their organization in terms that were too narrow or not properly attuned to customers' needs.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxCL2RqCuiY The Founder Real Estate Business Scene  "You don't seem to realize what business you're in," Harry Sonneborn says to Ray Croc. "You're not in the burger business. You're in the real estate business." Kroc can't build an empire off a 1.4 percent cut of a 15-cent hamburger. Own the land that the burger is cooked on. "Land. That's where the money is."     Marketing Myopia – thinking short term, and putting the business needs before the customers   Rule #4: Disruption - History never repeats itself, but it often rhymes Business have Market Cycles, when they are on top one day, and displaced by new industries the next. You have to see around the corner and anticipate if the train is coming. Innovator's Dilemma – afraid to shelf old tech because it is your core business right now, for new tech which is the long term future Black Swan Events are rare events that upend everything     When a management with a reputation for brilliance tackles a business with a reputation for bad economics, it is the reputation of the business that remains intact. Should you find yourself in a chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is likely to be more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks. Quotes by Warren Buffett   Rule #5: Strategy Needs Execution Without strategy, execution is aimless. Without execution, strategy is useless. - Morris Chang. Strategy plus blocking and tackling A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week. – George Patton "The essence of strategy is choosing what not to do." — Michael E. Porter, American  economist and founder of strategic management     Rule # 6: Cash is King This phrase is used to analyze the financial health of a business. Does it have Cash Flow and growing profits to handle any downturns. Startups often need a lot of cash as they are not profitable yet. Burn Rate is the term for when a startup is blowing thru cash and could go out of business. Business' need access to capital and credit lines, to handle situations or when opportunities for investment come along. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cash_is_king       Rule # 7: Everything in Life is Sales Sales and Marketing How you represent your business, how the receptionist answers the phone, what the lobby looks like, the layout of marketing material or affect how people view your business.   Entrepreneur needs to be the best salesman in his company, who tells the story Marketing needs clear messaging as confusion is the enemy of sales     Bonus Rule – Follow the $ People vote with their wallets, what are they spending money on, what are people investing in, follow the actions, not the words To Get the Deal, You have to Know the People in the Deal. Ray Croc has nothing on Martha. She was a pioneer in every aspect of her business and is the woman who gave birth to franchising. Dave Young: Welcome to The Empire Builders Podcast, teaching business owners the not so secret techniques that took famous businesses from mom and pop to major brands. Stephen Semple is a marketing consultant, story collector, and storyteller. I'm Stephen's sidekick and business partner, Dave Young. Before we get into today's episode, a word from our sponsor, which is ... well, it's us, but we're highlighting ads we've written and produced for our clients. So here's one of those. [Jim's Razorback Pizza Ad] Dave Young: Welcome back to the podcast. It's the podcast, the Empire Builders Podcast. I'm Dave Young, I'm sitting here with Stephen Semple, virtually, as we do. You whispered the name of the subject of this podcast into my ear and I'm trying to even remember it from 30 seconds ago. Martha Matilda- Stephen Semple: Matilda Harper. Dave Young: -Harper. Stephen Semple: Yes. Dave Young: Martha Matilda Harper. A household name, if I've ever heard one. I have nothing for this. Stephen Semple: And she should be a household name. There should be business schools with her name on it. And she should be a woman that we are studying in business school. When I came across this story, I was shocked that I'd never heard of this woman, especially since she was born in Canada on top of all of that. And it is one of these ones that I'm really happy and proud to share because her story needs to be told. Her story really needs to be told. As you learn about her, I think you'll be as blown away as I was. Because we often think of Ray Kroc from McDonald's is often referred to as the father of franchising. But when you think about it, he was not the first franchiser. Singer did the first franchise and certainly the first franchise agreement. But Martha started around same time as Singer and some belief predated Singer. Some of these dates are hard to nail down. Dave Young: You're talking about Singer Sewing Machines? Stephen Semple: Singer Sewing Machines. Yes. Dave Young: I didn't know that that was even a franchise [inaudible 00:02:54]. Stephen Semple: Yeah. It was when it first started off. Dave Young: So you'd be the Singer store in town. Stephen Semple: Yeah. So we'll probably do one on Singer at a certain point here. But 60 years before Ray Kroc came along, Martha built a chain of 500 hair salons all over the world using a franchise model. Dave Young: Oh, wow. Stephen Semple: Right? Dave Young: 500. 500? Stephen Semple: 500. And this is actually the model that hair salons are using today for their- Dave Young: Oh my God, what was the name of it? Have we heard of it? Stephen Semple: You've never heard of it, and you're just going to have to wait for the name. You've never heard of any of this. It's a travesty. I keep telling you, it's crazy. So Martha Harper was born September 10th, 1857 in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. And she was the fourth of 10 children, all of whom shared a one-room log cabin. So they were very, very poor. Dave Young: Mean. Yeah. Stephen Semple: Her father was a tailor who in her words was a stern, unflinching English pioneer, too occupied with his daily struggle to pay much heed to her. So you got the flavor of what- Dave Young: Her and her nine siblings, Stephen Semple: Her and her nine siblings. And he eventually pivoted his business to renting out his children as labor. At age seven, Martha was sent off to be a house servant for a wealthy farmer. She was paid $4 a month, which all went to her dad. Five years later, she was transferred to a home of a nearby doctor whose wife died. Now the doctor is believed to be Dr. Weston Leroy Hermann. And what's important about this is that Hermann had a special interest in the physiology of hair.

Strive to Thrive : The Purposely Positive Podcast

Most people would tell you that they want to be a success in life. But does age make a difference? Ray Croc first bought McDonalds at age 52, and Col Sanders was well into his 60s when he started KFC. Oprah Winfrey became a millionaire at 32, and Mark Zuckerberg became a millionaire at 23. There's one common thread, each age poses it's own set of challenges, but they should never be used as an excuse. On today's episode, Tony Wechsler and Karin Freeland are going to discuss the big picture, that success starts at any age. Change Your Thinking, What Got to One Level, May Not Get You to the Next - BRT S03 EP49 (148) 10-2-2022   What We Learned This Week Change – You have to Adapt, Disruption is part of Life Thinking - What Got You To One Level, may Not Get You to the Next What Would You Say You Do Here? – Employees need Clear Vision from Management What Business Are You In? – Business need to Understand what their real Objectives are, How they Serve their Customers, What Problem they Solve         Notes: There's No Going Back. You've Changed Things….Forever  Joker: Those mob fools want you gone so they can get back to the way things were. But I know the truth. There's no going back. You've changed things….forever.   Dark Knight (2008)   Something is either growing or dying, nothing stays the same. There is no Limbo. If your relationship is not growing & adapting, it is dying. Even if you don't want to change, things still change around you. Then you just come up with more ways to be in denial about what is going on around you. Change is hard.   There are Five Stages of Grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance. These stages represent our attempts to process change and protect ourselves while we adapt to a new reality. It's amazing how many people just hang out in stages one and two because of their ego (+ fear of change).  Successful people are adaptable and embrace change. Disruption is the way of the world. Change is constant. “Our new Constitution is now established, everything seems to promise it will be durable; but, in this world, nothing is certain except death and taxes,” - Benjamin Franklin  Change should be added to that list. Change is one of the guarantees in life. The more you fight it, the more energy you put into not changing, the harder it is. That energy to fight change is draining, both physically and mentally.   “You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.” – Bruce Lee Be flexible in mind and body. Don't be rigid in your thinking. Adapt to your circumstances. “The Pessimist complains about the wind; the Optimist expects it to change; the Realist adjusts the sails.” - William Arthur Ward.   More: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/theres-going-back-youve-changed-thingsforever-matthew-battaglia/     Thinking That Got You to One Level, Will Not Get to You to The Next Level You have to adapt your thinking at each milestone reached Entrepreneur that thinks all offensive when building a business and making money, now that has to think about defense and protecting their wealth on a personal level It takes a certain level of work and mentality to get to each level. When you're first starting an industry you had to learn about the industry. A few years and you have the industry down, but now you may need to learn about the nuances of how the business works. Then as you achieve levels of success, I have to adjust how are you do business as you get a better clientele. How you handle your financial picture I just hill as you earn more. When you're first making money it's about accumulating money and growing it fast if possible. This is very much an offensive mindset. When you achieve a level of wealth, you need to think about Risk and preserving it. This then requires a more defensive mindset. If you're worth $5 million, you're not going to take some risk in the market that could lose you 50%. It's a combo of wisdom and experience. You've done enough things that you know now how to navigate the landscape. Understanding what opportunities are worth the risk. And you also understand how to keep reserves. The bigger picture it's about a long-term mindset with clear objectives.       What would you say...you do here?   Bob Slydell: What would you say ya do here? Tom Smykowski: Well look, I already told you! I deal with the goddamn customers so the engineers don't have to! I have people skills! I am good at dealing with people! Can't you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people? Office Space (1999)   If the Company does not have a Clear Vision for 'What They Do'..... How Can You Expect the Employees to Understand? What Problem Do You Solve for Your Customers? How Do You Solve It? Who Are Your Customers?   Companies have a Vision, or a mantra as Guy Kawasaki likes to say. Understanding the product you sell, the problem your product or service serves, and how you help your customers fix this problem is why you're there. You need clarity of vision. Explain the Process. Explain why the process was created, and how it benefits the company short term & long term. Allow employees to absorb this info, so they can work within the process. If they have buy in, then they are better at their job. Over time their suggestions can be valuable to improve the process. Companies at their core are made up of people + processes. Good organizations have clarity of vision and put their employees in the best position to succeed. They give them the training, the tools, and the know how to get it done. Bad Organizations fail because of lack of vision. They may not share information, or take the time to train properly. Then they blame employees when things go wrong. Bad employees try to skirt work, and blame the boss for their career failure. Accountability by an organization, and henceforth by the people within that organization is crucial. It does not matter if they are the management or the team members, all must be accountable. We can only control ourselves. If you read watch Office Space, and you find yourself saying ‘Wow, the office I work at is a lot like this.' - Now you've identified the problem. What are you going to do about it?   More: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/what-would-you-sayyou-do-here-matthew-battaglia/     If you like this concept, you may enjoy this one…. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxCL2RqCuiY The Founder Real Estate Business Scene   "You don't seem to realize what business you're in," Harry Sonneborn says to Ray Croc. This article discusses the importance of self-perspective in achieving our goals. This is my third of three articles on how perspectives enable us to stop circling the roundabout and exit toward our summit. This article will focus on how our self-perspective can impact our success. Most of us care a lot - and maybe even too much - about what others think. We worry if others like us. We worry about fitting in. We worry about wearing, saying and doing the “right” things. Don't waste your precious time and energy in this space! We need to embrace the relationship that we have with ourselves - and honor our perspectives. When we learn to find validation from within ourselves, we can let go of worrying about what others think - and focus on what we think. We discuss how self-perspective can boost or derail your forward movement and how to stay on track toward your point B. Full article here: https://goalsforyourlife.com/blog/self-perspective

The necessities of life are eating, shelter, clothing and, in today's world, transportation. But I look at eating and it's always been on my mind and in my heart because I couldn't understand why a country like ours has so many hungry people or a country like ours has food shelters and shelters for people to live in because they don't have housing.” (08:04) (Ray)  “That process, when you look at it, is very archaic because when you cut something and chill it right away, it's already dying. Chilling does not preserve it. If you take anything that's wet and you chill it, it's gonna get cold and freeze. When it freezes, it's gotta thaw. And I think that's where the grocery stores in the economic areas that need help can't get what they're looking for.” (11:04) (Ray)  “I believe food, and the growing of food, is gonna be that billion dollar business for anybody's involvement in it for the next twenty to twenty-five years.” (14:14) (Ray)  “The first thing I saw with that was I can have an impact on the world. It wasn't how much money I could make or I didn't even know what it was gonna take. But I said, ‘I could feed the world.' So when I looked at this I said, ‘Ok, a small container produces three thousand pounds of food per month. I need to produce more than that to feed the people I want to feed and also the customers I'm pursuing.” (17:57) (Ray)  “Throughout my career, in anything I've ever sold or been a part of, I never looked at anybody as being competition. I think they're always a complement to each other. We may do it differently, we may do it the same way. But the more of us out there, the more the word gets out.” (29:45) (Ray)  “One of my idols - if I can call him that - is Ray Croc. The business modeling that he put together and the way he did it. I want to be the McDonalds of vertical farming.” (32:03) (Ray)  “I always tell my kids, ‘If you see something, do something. If you have an idea, act upon it. The worst that could happen is not you being wrong. The worst that could happen is that you're right and somebody else did it and you didn't.'” (41:37) (Ray)  Links Mentioned: Ray's LinkedIn Terra Firma Website Vertical Farming Show Link to Visioneering Book Link to The Silent Sea on Netflix Ray's Phone Number – (630) 429-4025  Ray's Email Sponsor Info: Cultivatd Website Cultivatd Instagram Cultivatd's Twitter Cultivatd's Facebook

The Client Stampede - An Unconventional Marketing Podcast by Julie Guest

One of the most powerful strategies you can use to grow a business - is to swipe what's working in a totally different industry, and start using it in your own.  That's how Ray Croc got his idea to start the first McDonalds - by looking at a soda fountain making drinks and thinking wow wouldn't it be great to figure out a way to make hamburgers just like that. You might not shop at Old Navy, but they are a sales and marketing juggernaut that are doing a lot of great (and dare I even say even cutting- edge) things!

The Client Stampede - An Unconventional Marketing Podcast by Julie Guest

Some of the best ideas to grow your business, come from watching other successful businesses grow theirs.  It doesn't matter what industry your business is in - your most profitable ideas can come from adapting things that have worked in other industries, and bringing them across to your own. This strategy is what creates business break throughs - for example McDonalds all started because Ray Croc was standing in the milk bar of a dime store. He watched them make different flavors of milkshakes in quick succession and wondered how he could apply this idea to his food business ...This is a lesson I learned in a department store in Ireland ...Want more marketing tips, tools and strategies, this time delivered to your inbox? What's Really Holding You Back in Your Personal Trainer Career? (It's Not COVID19)

What is really in the way of you having the personal training career you want? I'm unpacking it right now. I encourage you to stay with me all the way through this episode. Above all, don't let COVID19 be an excuse to hide behind. Let it be a reason to dig in. Over 35 years ago The late summer sun felt delicious on my skin. It wasn't warm enough for a bathing suit any more, but I'd rolled up my sleeves and kicked off my shoes to lie on the lounge chair for a few minutes. I wanted these moments to last. These moments when I was a young adult just beginning to take on responsibilities and still at home for a long weekend feeling cared for, safe, secure. It was predictable. And beyond this was anything but. First job, new apartment new city. But my mom dropped a bomb on me. I had assumed from some random segment of a conversation I remembered incorrectly that my mom's marriage to my step-dad was because of me. It was the right thing to do. I very likely had overheard a conversation or had one with my mom and that was where I apparently had left the room. I carried around guilt or the impression that I had to be good or that my parents had settled to provide security and safety for me. Can you imagine what that would be like and how you might feel pressure to be perfect, never make a mistake, stay within boundaries? Whatever those things looked like to you? Your Personal Training Career Look, we're in strange times right now. And this may feel like a story for another time. But stay with me here. This is absolutely a story for right now. Because I don't know about you but I can create stories inside my head and believe them for years- like the example above I believed from the time I was 7 until I was 25 that my parents were married because of me, not love. I made decisions about what I could and couldn't do, who I could and couldn't be based on that for a very long time. We all do make choices based sometimes on false assumptions. We can get messages between 3 and 7 years old that if we don't revisit why we have these limiting beliefs will hold us back. So you may be in paralysis right now. COVID19 is doing that to many. Is it you? You kind of want to hole up with a blanket and suck your thumb? Or dig into chips and watch old movies… whatever it is, it's okay for a while. But if you're ready to take some control and feel better because of it, then keep listening to this episode. Self-doubt Now and Before Self-doubt may actually be leftover from your youth. Some message you got, even if it was WRONG could be influencing you still today. Between the ages of 3 and 7 your foundations are laid. Did you know you could be operating on a set of beliefs that are only that, but they're so powerful they are the basis of how you make decisions, choices, and take action or avoid action. What happened the year you were 3? What happened the year you were 4? What happened the year you were 5? What happened the year you were 6? What happened the year you were 7? PS - there's no couch and I'm not a therapist. However, if you want something, and what you have to do to get it is something you're in conflict with, it's absolutely worth exploring this.  The Real Questions (1) Are you operating on the wrong belief?  Do you really know WHAT it is to do now? Do you know how to really find what people need and want and will buy right now? Or at least in the future when we're through the worst? Do you believe that people aren't spending money? Stop. Last week a client I had talked to for 10 minutes sent me a check for $7500. When she said “the check's in the mail” on Friday, I did what most of us do. I smiled. Monday? There it was. Not all people are not spending money. Not all people are unwilling to train online. If you don't do it, offer, get sessions booked on Skype and Facetime for them, they'll find someone else who is doing it. - it's changed from what you believe – it's not dieting, it's not eating less, it's not that if you “love food” or “love to eat” you can't be healthy – the two actually are both required and need to co-exist foods you learned to eat as “healthy” no longer are a one-healthy-foods-list-fits-all exercise you learned to do is no longer the best way to attain energy, optimal hormone balance the calorie deficit alone you thought was required is not the answer to any long term success (2) Are you not doing it once you DO know what to do? When no one is looking? Are you doing the right things repeatedly? You would ask your clients this wouldn't you? When I'm not with you, are you doing the workouts? Are you reaching fatigue? Are you lifting heavy enough? Are you doing it the way I instructed you? I'm going to come back to this in a short while because you really need to know WHAT to be doing right now. If you've convinced yourself there isn't anything? You're wrong. You can be proactive and those that are ready when this is over, or who in fact are creating something that people want and need right now, may begin to grow their businesses DURING COVID19. What Will Stop You From Getting a Personal Training Career You Want You can't simply train clients at some low rate you're comfortable charging and work hard day after day doing that and make a fantastic living. That won't work. You can raise your rate if you get good and you're in demand – AND gain the confidence to do it. There's a problem in that too. The myth making more money will solve your problems At some point your lifestyle will also increase. As your revenue grows you'll want a better car, house, or you'll have children and college and your expenditures will increase as fast. So what's the answer? Some type of scalable business model where you have not only revenue from one-on-one sessions whether in person or online, but information products (courses, programs), or actual products(supplements, clothing, affiliate products) clients also want and need to be more successful that you sell as a compliment to your services. In fitness, this is the way personal training started. Member-Retention Model For some gyms this is the model still: Members join and those who personal train stay longer and get better results so they are more satisfied customers. So the revenue margin is very small on purpose. For some gyms personal training is a revenue stream, for others it is not because of the square footage and equipment, marketing, and expense invested in personal training. It in fact may not be a loss and a marketing expense similar to group fitness programs. The service is an amenity that brings people through the door where they become members in order to have access to those programs. And now? A more contemporary model is that personal training is the service, a membership is secondary. A membership is the continuity factor after a personal training or coaching transaction occurs. If you train with clients in person you then may have an app or an online membership full of videos and streaming workouts that they use between your sessions or after they've completed your sessions. You may offer nutrition support or educational resources within. In the Flipping 50 virtual membership I offer all of those. Members are invited to join after completing a program or coaching. Whether you have a hybrid business or a 100% online fitness training business, digital programming is a key to your future success and financial freedom. If you believe that by personal training one-on-one or even in pairs or small groups daily you'll grow your revenue and relax into a flow of revenue easily, you're wrong. It's Continuous There will always be a need to launch. A launch is not announcing something for sale. It's giving value again and again before you ask for the sale. At the start of a new program you have to go and get clients again. You will always need to be marketing to customers with education and value so that you stay fresh and current and support them. You won't be able to continue the same programming without freshening up your offers. Consistence and persistence doing the right actions is what successful profitable businesses do. Have You Heard of McDonald's? Indulge me in telling this story I watched the Ray Croc story the other night. I didn't care for him very much and I realize that his persona could very much reinforce the negative impression so many people already have about successful business owners. Yet, rarely do people make judgments truly knowing someone. We make judgments based on knowing ourselves and the beliefs we acquired growing up. At McDonald's the success was built on systems. The "speedy system" changed everything and initiated “fast food.” The steps were written and clear and documented and repeated for a hamburger that was the same no matter what McDonald's in the world you went to. To be successful your business has to be built on some kind of similar system. Can you Systematize or Create a Single Method? I know every client is different. You can still have a system for working with them. You build a smoothie the same way. Add greens, fruit, protein, fiber and fats, and a liquid every time. But they're different every time. You have to consistently, persistently create a method or system that can be repeated again and again. There are common denominators in your clients' journey no matter if you're working with athletes, pregnant women, or cancer patients – and anyone in between. If you repeat the same steps your most successful clients go through again and again you'll find that you already have one. You just may not have stuck to it each time. Maybe you get bored or your client wants to jump in ahead and you cave. You've Put a System to Work When you know what works and you can relay that to customers, you'll gain their respect and you will be distinctly different from any other trainer who is also certified, also passionate, also serves the same clients you do. The question you need to ask and answer honestly is, knowing this are you willing to do that work? Do the work to discover your system. AND do the work daily to share that system with others. The Daily Work That means: Making the daily phone calls to prospective clients Making daily or weekly outreach calls to media Making time to plan, create, and implement information products Following up with value-added extras with clients between sessions Even When No One Is Watching Are you doing the right thing when no one else is watching? Like right now, no boss or employer is hovering over your shoulder. No one is going to ask you at that staff meeting on Monday what you did in the last 7 days. Are you still doing what you need to do? That's the difference between fitness professionals that will succeed and those that are waiting and wishing for this to blow over and go back to the way things were. It is never going to go back to the way it was before my friends. You will decide if you want to be a part of the change in fitness and be there or if you wait for someone else to change it. All of those things – those steps I mentioned above (phone calls, content planning and creating) collectively fill you now and fill you for the future. Not taking action right now because you are scared is the wrong thing to do. Taking action – the right action – will put you in control of your future. If You Don't Want To No is not a negative answer. In fact, it will save you a lot of heartache and frustration. If you would rather find a job where you can work as a trainer for an hourly rate and only want to serve clients, you know that now. If You Do, Then What? If you answered yes, then the most important thing you can do is determine what the steps really are and research them thoroughly before you go into action. Most personal trainers begin training, and think that just getting clients and “getting through this” is the best way to start. What often happens is they are still in that mode of getting through it a year or three or five later. It always feels unstable or if it doesn't, it's a bit of a myth, because someone else is learning more, creating another service or product that clients may get an itch to try something new if you've become complacent at all. If you're not connecting between sessions, or providing additional content and support, if you're not 100% attentive and if you forget that this session is about the customer from start to end. If you forget that you have rapport with them not friendship with them, and you blur the lines of a professional relationship, you can't forget that your client always has choices. Your Personal Training Career is Built on Habits  Right now, between sessions may be a long time. Anyone who is serving right now, without asking for money and making constant offers, will be serving a community who will remember it later. You aren't getting paid. What are you though? Are you really passionate and educated with something to share? How can you support your community now? What do they need? Can you cultivate relationships and resources if you don't feel you have the knowledge or background to provide it yourself? Who is an expert who can speak to supplements? Who is a sleep expert? Who is an exercise and immune-boosting expert? You can either take the lead in interviewing or in providing directly. But sitting quietly and watching will not help your audience, nor will it help your business. Right now make three choices: you want to do nothing or you're going to take action you want to do it alone or you want to get support you want support from me right now. Book a call if you want to talk about coaching right now for the moment we're in. By the time we're done we will together decide if we are well-matched for working together and what your options are. IF you are ready to take action in your business and grow it now and or be ready when more people do once again more freely invest in their health, then book a session with me to discuss your options. I want you to fill out the questionnaire you'll see a link to when you book and return it to me before our session.

Habits 2 Goals: The Habit Factor® Podcast with Martin Grunburg | Goal Achievement, Productivity & Success – Simplified

"Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right." ~Henry Ford On this Frequently Asked Friday we ask the seemingly ominous-sounding question: Is it too late? Too late for what? Too late to achieve our goals... too late to realize our ideal future. Just as the great Henry Ford proffered in the quote above, it may depend on what you think.  At 50, Ray Croc started the McDonalds juggernaut. Colonel Sanders was in his mid-60s when he sold his famed recipe and the KFC franchise was launched. The founder of Wal-Mart was 44 when he opened his first store. The examples go on and on. The stories echo the same themes: Failure, rejection, success. It may sound cliched, but it's important to realize that if it's been done before, we can do it too! Even if it hasn't been done before, we can do it! Recall the episode, Anyone Can Do It! Listen in to be inspired to fight through repeated failure and rejection, become the person you are meant to be, and understand that it's never too late to go after your goals! We kick off the podcast with some comments about Craig Ferguson and his ability to deliver a gripping, touching story about his brush with suicide (during his heavy drinking days) whilst being charming and hilarious. (link below) Craig is well known for quick whit and ability to charm the female guests on his show, even as a much older man. The guys discuss this and it's merits. Paul then kicks off by looking into Twinkie and the great American brands. He talks about a very interesting case where the company was failing but a fresh new corporate approach allowed the brand to re surface and thrive. He points out that none of the leaders of that company would be seen dead eating their own product though and asks the question, is that important? They explore the idea of morality in peddling a product/business for success without any attachment in the actual item? We also look how at the qualities you need to be a founder of a business appose to taking Global. Do founders need to stand aside to allow growth and sustainability? Peter then weaves in the story of Ray Croc (not the founder of McDonalds but the man who took it global) and also the Michael Keaton movie 'The Founder.' No real spoilers (a mini one maybe) but we look at how Ray took it from a small single restaurant into the global beast it is today and the personalty that is required to take such a leap. We address the usual moves high hitting guys like this make such as cutting out old business partners harshly and divorcing long serving wife for a younger woman. Is this always the inevitable? As always with Diapers Off the boy banter and go off topic in this energetic, engaging conversation between Peter and Paul. Link to Craig video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K46P7loICXY

On today's review-only episode of the show, host Tom Breen talks with Allan Appel and Lucy Gellman about The Founder, a new movie from director John Lee Hancock that charts the bullish rise of Ray Croc (played by Michael Keaton), an over-the-hill milkshake salesman from suburban Illinois who charmed, clawed, and exploited his way to the top of the American food chain through his expansion of the fast food restaurant McDonald’s from a local burger joint in San Bernardino, California to an international franchise behemoth.

"Name's Charly, by the way. You're gonna love me." When New Line Cinema bought Shane Black's spec script “The Long Kiss Goodnight” in 1994 for $4 million, it created a new record for the selling price of spec scripts for more than 10 years until 2005 when Terry Rossio's and Bill Marsilii's script “Déjà Vu” sold for $5 million. While Black walked away with a hefty paycheck, he had no idea that this sale and the subsequent underwhelming performance of the resulting movie would have a hand in the end of the halcyon days of spec script sales. The way that studios saw screenwriters changed. The way they approached projects changed. Some say the industry has changed for the better, some say for the worse. Whichever side you fall on the issue, Black found himself struggling to get work afterward.  Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we continue our Shane Black series with Renny Harlin's 1996 film “The Long Kiss Goodnight.” We talk about how much fun this movie is, particularly after our struggles with the last two in the series. We chat about Black and why the level of over-the-top fun in this script helps to elevate it in ways that didn't quite work before. We chat about Harlin and what he brings to the table, not just here but in action and horror films through the late 80s and early 90s. We discuss Geena Davis, Samuel L. Jackson, Craig Bierko, Yvonne Zima, Brian Cox, David Morse and more, looking at how well they fit in this universe. And we look at how this film affected Black's career, pushing him to step out of the industry for a decade.  It's a joyously ridiculous romp that's nothing but fun and we have a great time talking about it on this week's show. Definitely check out this movie then tune in to the show. "What makes homo sapiens the dominant force on the planet for the last 150,000 years is the brain." - Tai Lopez What would you call a man who spent his teenage years in a mobile home park, lived with the Amish for 2.5 years as an experiment, was a professional tango dancer, dated a Brazilian model, was a self-made millionaire in his 20s, has authored several books and today attends Warren Buffet's annual Berkshire meeting? You'd call him Tai Lopez. An aspiring Renaissance Man, Tai has excelled at a variety of endeavors and has learned as much as possible along the way. In this episode we talk about a host of topics including how to earn and deserve what you really want in life, why the 4 Hour Work Week is a myth that won't make you happy, why you should go straight to the top when seeking counsel and why the more you learn, the more you'll earn...and loads of other valuable content. More About This Show: Tai is clearly a man with a passion and zest for living. He has what most of us would consider the "good life": he's healthy, wealthy and dates beautiful women. And he's learned what it takes to earn all of those things: he says you have to deserve it and you have to work for it...but it is yours for the taking when you do. He believes books like Tim Ferriss' "Four Hour Work Week" give us the mythical notion that we only have to work four hours a week and we'll make $10k a month in passive income. Once we do that, we can go out and do the things we love to do, like learn the art of the tango in Argentina. Tai disagrees, he doesn't believe financial success happens by only working four hours a week, nor can we find real happiness that way. He believes there are three types of happiness: the hedonic life or a life built around the pursuit of pleasure (which is the category most people pursue after reading "The Four Hour Work Week"), the authentic life and the meaningful life. It's in the last one that we find the most joy and the most fulfillment; we reach this state by aligning our work and our love. So loving what we do is key. Another contributing factor to our happiness is experimenting. To that end, he spent 2.5 years living in an Amish community as an experiment. He wondered what it would be like to live without a material focus and he knew living with the Amish would be the ideal setting to conduct his experiment. The finer details of this show include: Associative Cognitive Bias: what is it and how does it work? Why he loves Ray Croc of McDonald's story. How fear impacts our brain and how to annihilate it. The hereretical factors that influence women's attraction. What is selective proceptivity and why should you care? And so much more! Coming from a very humble background, Tai has long been fascinated by people who have done great things with their lives. He's made it a habit to study these people, and he has a few practical tips he's learned along the way. The first tip he gave was the 1/10th rule. He says whoever you copy and surround yourself with and idolize, at best you'll do 1/10th of what they do. In other words, if you want to learn how to earn money and you copy, study and idolize people who have made money you're going to earn 1/10th of what they earned. So you have a choice: copy, study and idolize people making $500,000 and you'll earn $50,000 OR copy, study and idolize people who earn $300 billion and earn $30 billion. It's up to you. The other tip he has is the 33% rule. It goes like this: spend 33% of your time with people below you, mentor others. Then spend 33% of your time with people at your level, friends, etc. Spend the remaining 33% of your time with people above you, people you are uncomfortable being around because they are so much further ahead than you are. These are the people who are 10-20 years ahead of you. Most people don't do this last one and it's critical to growing, learning and earning more. His final tip is to learn more so you earn more. He has rich friends and he has poor friends, he never lets friends go just because they aren't at his same level. He says the difference he sees between his rich friends and his poor friends is that his rich friends are constantly learning. Invest your time and your energy in learning more and getting better at what you do in life. All three of these tips highlight the importance of going straight to the top when you're seeking advice or you want to learn something. Tai says to be humble enough to listen and learn from everyone, because ultimately everyone has something to teach you. But in the end, heed the advice that feels uncomfortable to you: that is how you'll know it's truth. Tai goes on to say if you're going to learn from the best and heed their advice, you have to go after it. Bill Gates isn't going to send you a Facebook message and spoon feed you what he knows. You have to be the one to pursue his knowledge and his advice. You're the king of the jungle so go after it! Having Tai on the show was informative and insightful; he has much to share on so many topics. I hope you enjoy listening in and thank you for joining us.
