Dolly Parton was last on the show back in 2020 at the height of the pandemic, and we talked on the phone about her Christmas traditions, her childhood in East Tennessee, and her incredible work getting millions of kids to read through the Imagination Library. This time I got to sit down with her in person at her studio outside of Nashville, and she hasn't slowed down one bit. She told me all about her latest album, Rockstar, which features 30 rock and roll classics, from covers like Prince's “Purple Rain” and Bob Seger's “Night Moves,” to some powerful new Dolly Parton originals. She's also just released a new book called Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones, which documents more than six decades of outfits, costumes, and iconic looks from a career in the spotlight. In this episode of JJ Meets World, JJ and Tucker remember Dolly Parton through the music, movies, philanthropy, humor, and humanity that made her one of the most beloved entertainers in American culture. The conversation touches on her early career with Porter Wagoner, the stories behind "Jolene" and "I Will Always Love You," the Imagination Library, Dollywood, children's literacy, and the rare kind of public affection Dolly earned across generations. JJ and Tucker also revisit Dolly Parton's work in film, including 9 to 5, Straight Talk, Rhinestone, Steel Magnolias, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and The Beverly Hillbillies. Along the way, they celebrate Jim Varney, Cloris Leachman, Dabney Coleman, Lily Tomlin, Julie Andrews, Mr. Rogers, and the question of what makes someone not just famous, but genuinely loved. 00:00 Intro: Remembering Dolly Parton 01:04 Dolly Parton's Legacy Hits Hard 01:33 Two Doors Down and Early Dolly Memories 01:48 Dolly Parton, Porter Wagoner, and Jolene 03:20 I Will Always Love You and Leaving Porter Wagoner 04:00 Porter Wagoner Sues Dolly Parton 04:45 Dolly Buys Porter Wagoner's Music Catalog 05:28 Rebuilding Burned Bridges 05:58 Dolly Parton's Imagination Library 07:19 How the Imagination Library Works 08:16 Fargo Rotary and Local Imagination Library Support 09:03 Coat of Many Colors and Dolly's Message 09:21 9 to 5 and Dolly's Movie Career 09:55 Straight Talk, Radio Advice, and Southern Wisdom 10:51 Rhinestone, Sylvester Stallone, and Dolly's Kindness 11:49 Steel Magnolias and a Powerhouse Cast 12:14 Dolly Parton, COVID Vaccines, and Public Trust 12:29 Dolly in The Beverly Hillbillies Movie 13:01 Buying The Beverly Hillbillies Soundtrack 13:24 Why The Beverly Hillbillies Is a Perfect Adaptation 13:48 Cloris Leachman as Granny 14:10 Diedrich Bader, Dabney Coleman, and Lily Tomlin 15:03 Jim Varney as Jed Clampett 16:13 Could The Beverly Hillbillies Work Today? 17:25 Leah Thompson and Superhero Fan Casting 17:45 Tucker's Childhood Dolly Parton Crush 18:29 Was Dolly the Last Universally Loved Icon? 19:37 Caregiving, Health, and Dolly's Final Years 20:35 The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas 22:24 Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds 22:48 Dom DeLuise, the Watchdog Report, and the Governor 23:35 Why the Musical Still Works 24:38 Dolly Was Always Ahead of Her Time 25:35 Dolly Parton Chose Not to Be a Billionaire 26:14 Dollywood and Dolly's Childhood Home 26:33 Is There Anyone Else Like Dolly? 27:18 Cher, Julie Andrews, and Cultural Warmth 29:06 The Princess Diaries and Julie Andrews' Later Career 30:07 Dolly Parton at Christmas 30:24 Dolly Parton's Songwriting and Acrylic Nails 31:06 Dolly's Magical Ability to Connect 31:36 Outro 32:14 Final Tag: Holidays at Dolly's House

In this replay episode, Margo is joined by multi-passionate creative Kim Bloomberg, the joyful force behind Studio Art Beat. A fine artist, educator, and self-proclaimed art supply nerd, Kim brings a refreshing perspective to the creative journey—one that's less about staying in your lane and more about following curiosity wherever it leads. With a background in both fine art and education, over two decades of teaching experience, and years running her own jewelry business, Kim shares how she ultimately found fulfillment by embracing her ADHD-fueled love for switching mediums and diving headfirst into new materials. After leaving behind the New York hustle for the artistic charm of Chicago's North Shore, Kim launched Studio Art Beat as an inclusive space to demystify art and make creativity accessible to all ages. She now leads workshops, partners with brands like Gelli Arts, and teaches online courses—including one that brings rhinestone bedazzling to the masses. Through her story, Kim reminds us that freedom, play, and experimentation are not distractions—they're the path. Margo and Kim discuss: Growing up in an art-loving family and the creative influence of her parents and grandfather. Letting go of a long-term jewelry business and the guilt that came with that decision. How embracing her neurodivergent brain led to business clarity and personal joy. Turning her natural desire to switch mediums into a strength rather than a struggle. Building an online art education platform that's welcoming, inclusive, and non-intimidating. Why sharing her process openly (rather than gatekeeping) has helped her business grow. Collaborating with brands while maintaining authenticity and community connection. The value of playful creativity for both kids and adults—and why it's never too late to start. How she's made rhinestones cool again with her Cricut-powered online course. The beauty in allowing your creative identity to evolve—and giving others permission to do the same. Were they flops – or just ahead of their time? In this episode, the hosts dig into one of the food and beverage industry's most intriguing debates: whether discontinued products failed because they were poorly conceived, or because the market simply wasn't ready. From drinkable soups and early functional shots to better-for-you snacks and non-alcoholic cocktail concepts, they revisit ideas that may have been too forward-thinking for their moment.  The conversation expands into how today's shifting trends, like functional ingredients and alcohol-free innovation, could give these once-shelved products a second chance at success, where timing, not taste, may have been the real barrier. Show notes: 0:20: A Week Away. Real Chocolate Debate. Never Had A Shot/Ahead Of Its Time. Chips & I.V. – Ray gives a final call to register for Taste Radio's NYC meetup. Melissa highlights The Hershey Company's plan to return all Reese's and Hershey's products to classic milk and dark chocolate recipes by 2027, sparking a discussion about whether a shift back to "real" ingredients could reshape consumer expectations and premium chocolate demand. The hosts then explore discontinued products, debating whether they failed due to poor execution or were simply ahead of their time, including drinkable soup, better-for-you fruit snacks, non-alcoholic cocktails, and functional shots. They wrap with notable new products, including refreshed pita chip branding, a non-alcoholic "brew," and a quirky collaboration between Grillo's Pickles and Liquid I.V. Rhinestone-studded suits and colorful embroidery are hallmarks of classic Western wear—a tradition immortalized by artists like Porter Wagoner, Lefty Frizzell, and Little Jimmy Dickens. A new exhibition of his work opens at the Eiteljorg Museum on March 28. WFYI's Kyle Long spoke with Atwood to learn more. Movies can suck. But movies that suck, are often the best! The Golden Raspebery Awards, aka, "The Razzies" started in the 1980s. This was the perfect time for Hollywood to get called out for its most excessive, over-the-top, and sometimes disastrous output, complete with a smirk and a deliberately tacky trophy made from a spray-painted golf ball. The deliberate anti-Oscars began as a sarcastic living-room gathering in 1981, sparked by a terrible double feature of Can't Stop the Music (fair) and Xanadu (how dare they!). It quickly turned into the annual roast of the decade's biggest cinematic failures. Disco musicals that should never have been made, bloated blockbusters that collapsed under their own weight, vanity projects, and action pictures that swung for the fences and missed badly. The 1980s supplied the Razzies with plenty of targets. It was a modest start - founder John J. B. Wilson passing out ballots in his Hollywood apartment, using a broomstick with a foam ball as a mock microphone. The event grew into something the press actually started covering by the middle of the decade. There were some recurring themes: musicals gone wrong, jungle-set misadventures, big-name stars stepping far outside their comfort zones, and the sheer nerve it took to release some of these films. No look at the Razzies of the 1980s is complete without Sylvester Stallone. He collected Worst Actor awards the way some people collect trophies: Rhinestone, Rambo: First Blood Part II and Rocky IV in the same year, Rambo III, and several others. He eventually earned Worst Actor of the Decade at the 1990 ceremony, covering the full 1980s output. His female counterpart for worst of the decade? The one and only, Bo Derek!Maybe the Razzies were right, but those same movies were the ones that played endlessly on VHS, get quoted in conversations, and still have some die hard audiences. This episode is about the laughs, the sheer absurdity of some of those productions, and the reminder that even in its most ridiculous moments, Hollywood in the 1980s was actually pretty awesome.

We're headed on the road in Spring 2026! Buy tickets here:https://www.x1entertainment.com/bttb"On this podcast, historically, I don't know if I've ever agreed with Abby Lee Miller and been Team Abby in an argument. For these next four sentences I'm 100% on Abby's side, with my pom poms, and I'm cheering ABBY ABBY!" says Christi, in what may be the first sign that hell truly has frozen over.As "Bye Bye Pittsburgh" gets underway, stress levels are high as there's only one week left until the ALDC moves to Los Angeles. The OG moms continue to believe that Abby doesn't have every girl's best interest at heart unless their name is Maddie. It's clear from the editing that Holly doesn't know it yet, but she's being set-up to take Christi's place as the heel in Abby's plans and it's already feeding into Nia's treatment overall.Meanwhile the newest moms are battling it out to see who will get to stick around. Jess and Jojo are only scheduled to stay two weeks, indicating that at least at this moment it's likely they hadn't been locked in yet to become regulars. Jess goes on the offensive, theatrically making scenes attacking the other moms in the hopes it makes for good TV. Her only problem is JoJo isn't quite fitting into the team dynamic just yet, running behind during the group dance and annoying Abby with her quips. Consequently JoJo is booted from the group routine, but will Jess let that stop her from stirring the pot further?Quotes“I have a big slap. Do you though? I thought your slap was pretty minimal with a big impact. Oh be nice!" (12:58-13:05 | Christi)“By the way [Abby] did not like us. I think everybody knows that." With a background in both fine art and education, over two decades of teaching experience, and years running her own jewelry business, Kim shares how she ultimately found fulfillment by embracing her ADHD-fueled love for switching mediums and diving headfirst into new materials. After leaving behind the New York hustle for the artistic charm of Chicago's North Shore, Kim launched Studio Art Beat as an inclusive space to demystify art and make creativity accessible to all ages. Then, Joe Praino joins to talk some news including stories about a street performer arrested for blowing bubbles in San Diego, a 49ers wide receiver shot during a botched robbery in San Francisco, the first arrest following a new law banning face masks in Long Island and multi-millionaires in Britain fleeing the country to avoid an increased capital gains tax. They wrap the show by talking about Adam's dad getting drugged to sleep by his nurse and Kyle's mom needing to always know more than him. This Fall, buck the hackneyed trends that ooze like a puss-filled pimple from the runways of Milan and Paris. Instead, embrace the effortless style that comes from the classic down-under fashion of the extraordinarily ebullient and embarrassingly eloquent Courtney Act. Whether you're channeling your inner Crocodile Dundee or the cowboy sleaze of John Wayne's 40 lbs of impacted colon feces, look no further for your comprehensive Fall Fashion Guide! From Miss Act's sparkly rhinestone Dr. Martens to her signature "Coochie-Cut" bugle crystal jorts, your neighbors will be peaking through their blinds to goon at the unadulterated gorgeousness on display. To accent your genetically-perfect complexion and perfectly-coiffed hair, finish the outfit with a genre-defying sequined denim Jacket and blindingly-neon-yellow tube-top that subtly hints at the existence of the perky little nipples that lie beneath. If you can walk down the street wearing this outfit without being instantly booked to be a model on Ed McMahon's Star Search, then you can slap my ass and call me Shirley.
