Iv'e recently noticed an interesting pattern in my sleep. Those days where I'm strictly low carb-high protein, I tend to wake up at 4 am regardless of what time I go to sleep. I usually go to bed at 10, but even when I went to bed at 12 - same thing happened! It's always the same time - betwwen 4 to 4:30 and from then until wake-up time I'm drowsing on and off! The other days when I'm adding carb throughout the day, my sleep is amazing! I've tried adding a little carb at night on my low carb days, sometimes a banana, sometimes even a piece of cake, but to no sucess. I take vitamin D every day both from the sun (when available) and from supplements (10000 UI). I'm 30 years old and I work out 3-4 days a week bodybuilding style. Oh and I fall asleep quite fast at night, but it's the waking up that bothers me. Hope you can help me, and waiting for your kosher certification on your LMNT's. He was on hemodialysis and then peritoneal dialysis until July of 2022. He underwent a kidney transplant from the best human among us. ‘Phase II' of his transplant included (was supposed to include) receiving stem cells from his donor post operatively, with emerging data showing reduction of anti-rejection meds with treatment. The trial was cancelled 10 days before he was supposed to participate, and who knows what happened to these stem cells. He is currently experiencing excruciating full body pains and has been diagnosed with medication induced fibromyalgia. He eats SQUEAKY clean, 5'10/160lbs but has poor tolerance to exercise because getting hot or sweating makes him itch excessively. He is nearing hopelessness due to the severity of symptoms and since his clinical trial was cancelled, will never receive those already harvested/cultured stem cells. I can't watch him suffer anymore and gratefully ask for any suggestions or referrals you could provide. You guys rock - found you guys in 2013 and it changed everything for me. The Downfall of FTX and Crypto's Path Forward | Vance Spencer & Michael Anderson

Hidden Forces

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 14, 2022 54:40

In Episode 283 of Hidden Forces, Demetri Kofinas speaks with Vance Spencer and Michael Anderson about the downfall of FTX, the political back-story behind Sam Bankman-Fried's legislative push to build a regulatory moat around his business empire, and the path forward for the crypto industry. As the crisis at FTX was unfolding, Vance received a call from none other than Sam Bankman-Fried. The two had never spoken before, but Vance had become recently critical of Sam's efforts to lobby Washington for regulation that many felt would benefit him and his companies at the expense of everyone else in the industry. The legislation that SBF was pushing for would be particularly detrimental to the ecosystem of crypto known as decentralized finance or “DeFi” for short. Cashing in on the tens of millions of dollars that he spent to curry favor with lawmakers, Fried spent his time behind the scenes persuading them to pass a bill known as the ‘Digital Commodities Consumer Protection Act.' Sponsored by Senators Debbie Stabenow and John Boozman, the DCCPA would, according to some of its critics, make it impossible for open source developers to function within the U.S., limit access to decentralized financial products and applications for U.S. consumers, and create a regulatory monopoly for FTX in the United States. On their call Sam stated multiple times that if the DCCPA didn't go through the S.E.C. was going to come after everyone. It was going to come after the DeFi projects and it was going to come after some of Framework's own investments. Sam Bankman-Fried was explicit, telling Vance Spencer that Framework would be “materially harmed if they did not get on side.” This was apparently part of a larger narrative being pushed by Sam Bankman-Fried in the months leading up to his phone call with Spencer. It's what Ryan Selkis, founder of crypto market intelligence firm Messari, described in a recent tweet as a “committed contingent of crypto policy people that want you to know that the Big Bad Wolf of Gary Gensler is coming to get you if the DCCPA doesn't pass.” At the same time there were rumors circulating that regulators may have somehow been working on behalf of SBF. Specifically, US representative Tom Emmer of Minnesota tweeted out a few days ago that there were reports coming into to his office suggesting that the chairman of the SEC was “helping SBF and FTX work on legal loopholes to obtain a regulatory monopoly.”  To our knowledge, Tom Emmer has not put forward any evidence to support his claims and no one on this call—not Demetri, Michael, or Vance—is making that assertion. While the facts of this story are still coming together, what we have learned thus far gives credence to every bias and suspicion that most Americans have about their government and the corrupting influence of money in Washington. It's at the heart of everything that's gone wrong with our political system and it's a big part of why extremists on both the left and right of the political spectrum have gained the support of an increasingly radicalized electorate. Demetri's hope with this conversation, besides telling a newsworthy story, is to prevent the narrative from being hijacked and recast as the case of some rogue, evil genius that we can easily blame for a problem that is systemic in nature. Yes, Sam Bankman-Fried a bad dude, but our system rewards bad dudes. And too often it punishes good ones. We need to change that. If we want to see a positive change in our country—whether in crypto, finance, the media, or in the nation's capital—we have to work together to fix the problem. And we have to hold people accountable, including ourselves, because in a democracy there is no one else. And as you heard in a previous episode, I was fortunate enough to briefly interview Ryan Selkis, Founder and CEO at Messari, backstage at Graph Day. Today's episode will feature two interviews with members of the Messari team. First, we will hear from Ryan Selkis, who generously made himself available for another interview. During my discussion with Ryan, we have a high-level discussion of how the Core Subgraph Dev grant came together, what it means for Messari and The Graph, and we also discuss a range of other topics, including his advice for entrepreneurs, his vision for what happens next in web3, and an experience he when a well-intentioned tweet caught a lot of attention and went viral. Then I am pleased to welcome Vincent Wen, Engineering Manager for the on-chain data team at Messari. Vincent and his team are managing all the work going on related to the Core Subgraph Developer grant. And, as you will most certainly hear, Vincent is brilliant and has a keen eye for how The Graph creates value for developers and web3! Vincent and I talk about the nature of the grant work he and his team are contributing and how you can get involved, how Messari uses The Graph, and so much more! Show NotesThe GRTiQ Podcast takes listeners inside The Graph (GRT) by interviewing members of The Graph's community and ecosystem.  Please help support this project and build the community by subscribing and leaving a review.Twitter: GRT_iQwww.GRTiQ.com

Location: New York Date: Tuesday 6th December Company: Messari Role: Founder & CEO Bitcoin's architecture uses decentralisation to achieve censorship-resistance and permissionless access to a revolutionary monetary protocol. And despite thousands of altcoins that claimed to be better or faster over the years, Bitcoin reigns as the non-sovereign store of value in the digital world. However, what is not yet clear is if the wider world of ‘crypto' can achieve similarly permissionless innovation outside of money, or if they are instead ‘decentralised in name only'. Can these protocols resist influence by powerful actors? What is ‘enough' decentralisation? Will the fundraising-via-token model survive the SEC? Will they adapt to increasing pressure? Is there real innovation, or is it all just a house of cards of venture capital and marketing? Many questions remain. As Bitcoiners it is important to engage those with broader outlooks, even if we have seemingly incompatible ideologies.  The battle of ideas involves free, open, and respectful discussion. In this interview, I talk to the founder and CEO of the research and data firm Messari, Ryan Selkis. We discuss Messari's industry-leading opus on the state of the ecosystem, Bitcoin and gold, regulation, both sides of the Web3 debate and the differentiation of Bitcoin and ‘crypto'.

Hey,In recent months, lots of high profile personalities have announced plans to get paid in crypto. The Mayors of New York and Miami joined athletes like Aaron Rodgers and Odell Beckham; and artists like 50 Cent and Mel B to get partially or fully paid in crypto. Coinbase recently partnered with UnitedMasters to let musicians receive their royalties in crypto. But is this just a gimmick for the rich? What are regular Joe and Jane doing? I’m conducting a survey to understand attitudes towards getting paid in crypto. It took me less than 1 minute to it fill out. Please let your voice be heard here! It’s anonymous. I’ll share the results with you. Besides getting paid in crypto, one could also receive crypto rewards for everyday purchases. I’ve been using the Fold card to earn bitcoin rewards for a couple months. I’ll share some of my thoughts below….and of course I’ll touch on some of the recent news developments in crypto: such as Chainlink, metaverse, Novi and regulations. Let’s go!Fold review: Bitcoin rewards card 💳Why Fold? When we got married, we paid for our honeymoon and flights to Hawaii with credit card loyalty points. We had an amazing time! But it was even sweeter knowing that we did not use cash for our luxury getaway. The Fold card presents the same allure. The opportunity to build a bitcoin stash without changing behavior was too good to pass up. How did it go?Fold started out enabling users to earn rewards by buying gift cards. Next, they graduated to offering a debit card with bitcoin buy back on all purchases.Phase 1: Gift cardsI earned 1% bitcoin rewards when I bought Amazon gift cards using Fold. I started buying $100 gift cards and pre-loading my Amazon account. I would spend cash from the gift card on my protein powder or a gift. I’m not a huge shopper but it felt pretty easy to score some free bitcoin. Bitcoin rewards: $100 Amazon gift card x 1% = $1 rewards = 0.00002 BTC rewards (assuming 1BTC = $50,000, 1% rewards for using a credit card)Yeah, the rewards are NOT huge. But I suppose they could add up if you shop a lot. Fold also has gift cards with varying bitcoin rewards from a variety of retailers like Chipotle, Banana Republic and Southwest Airlines. But you have to read the fine print - rewards might be capped at 1% if you are purchasing the gift card with a debit/credit card. Either way, might as well get free from bitcoin while you get your holiday shopping done. Additionally, Fold has an app where you can spin the wheel and potentially turbocharge your rewards or when 1 whole bitcoin! I haven’t won a bitcoin yet but I’ll continue spinning lol. Phase 2: Debit cardEarlier this year, Fold launched a debit card. I got the basic one. I figured I could earn more bitcoin from everyday transactions like going to a local coffee shop or my gym membership. Unfortunately, the card has been a disappointment. Yes, I routinely use it at my local coffee shop and my barber but it’s NOT accepted everywhere. Much to my annoyance, I have been unable to directly pay my gym membership, powerlifting coach or CashApp friends with my Fold card. I have had to develop workaround solutions to pay my coach like PayPal but PayPal charges a ~3% fee on the Fold card which is greater than the bitcoin rewards cash back. I imagine these are growing pains and will eventually be fixed. Right now, it’s incredibly annoying to have a transaction declined or be forced to pay higher fees. VerdictI still use my Fold card for a couple transactions every month. So far, I’ve racked up over $40 worth of bitcoin rewards. Nothing to get to terribly excited about. That said, I have seen folks on Twitter who have won 1 bitcoin from spinning the wheel in the Fold app. I’ve also seen people stack serious sats by putting most of their regular expenses like rent, groceries and airline tickets on their Fold card. To be honest, I could ratchet it up a notch or three. Exhibit A: My biggest recommendation to Fold is to address the pain points around payment acceptance and fees ex PayPal. What’s been your experience?NEWS1. Crypto goes to Congress👩‍⚖️CEOs of 6 crypto companies testified in front of the US House Committee on Financial Services and received encouragement from both Democrats and Republican representatives. The crypto executives provided some context on the potential and opportunities of cryptocurrencies and blockchain solutions to lower costs and drive greater inclusion. They also pleaded for more well thought out regulation to support the industry’s growth. This tone marked a departure from several years ago. Hopefully, there will be more in the future. I would like bipartisan support for crypto. 2. ChainLink: Attracting top talent 📈ChainLink connects real world data to on-chain smart contracts. So for example, a farmer in Kansas could get crop insurance with payouts triggered by weather events ex tornado. All of this could be executed with code NOT people enabled by ChainLinkThe 4-year old company has secured partnerships with a number of major players include AWS, Google, Oracle etc. Now, ChainLink Labs is attracting more big name talent: (1) Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google, joined ChainLink as a strategic advisor (2) Mike Derezin, former VP of LinkedIn, joined ChainLink as COO. I think ChainLink is well positioned to help bring the promise of smart contracts alive for everyday use cases. It’s definitely on my radar. 3. WhatsApp testing stablecoin payments in the US 💬⚡️This is big. WhatsApp has over 2 billion monthly active users worldwide. Most of my family - scattered across Africa, Europe and North America - are daily users of WhatsApp. They may not understand crypto or stablecoins but they will eagerly use WhatsApp Pay. And more. I can see payments to merchants, lending, and so on. The question is, can Novi deliver on this promise? Last week, David Marcus, the head of Novi, announced he was leaving. Novi has suffered a string of high profile departures. From the outside looking in, it feels like a shadow of it’s former self.4. Bill Gates’ bullish on metaverse 🚀“People overestimate what can be done in one year, and underestimate what can be done in ten“. That said, I think Bill Gates is wrong here. But I also don’t know if he literally meant that MOST office meetings will switch over to the metaverse. I wonder if he was trying to make a clear statement: the metaverse is here to stay and is coming for Main Street USA. Now that’s a message I could get behind. 5. Messari 2022 crypto theses🤯Ryan Selkis, the founder of Messari - a leading crypto research firm - has dropped 165-page tome on crypto developments for 2022 for FREE. It covers everything from bitcoin to NFT, metaverse to solana and MORE!If you are new to crypto or want to learn more then I highly recommend you download it. I’m gradually consuming the content. Ryan is able to borrow thoughts from across cryptosphere. It’s incredible that he shares it for free. Let me know what you agree or disagree with(Bugs’s Bunny accent) That’s all folks!
