Changes include swapping out larger jets for much smaller twin- engine turboprop planes on some Queenstown and Dunedin flights; this means more than a hundred fewer seats on a flight. In some cases, morning departure times will be later and return flights earlier in the afternoon, compressing any day trips. The Christchurch to New Plymouth route's being reduced by three flights a week. On Monday, Air New Zealand confirmed its ditching direct flights from Invercargill to Wellington from January next year, prompting allegations the national carrier is prioritising profits over its social responsiblity to serve the regions, Air New Zealand's general manager domestic Scott Carr spoke to Lisa Owen.
Air New Zealand won't say if the latest cuts to its domestic routes will be the last. The airline's reducing flights between Christchurch and New Plymouth and running smaller planes between Christchurch and Queenstown, and Wellington and Dunedin. On Monday it also scrapped direct flights between Wellington and Invercargill from early next year. Domestic manager Scott Carr told Heather du Plessis-Allan they're strongly committed to their domestic fleet, but these are trying times. He says if that continues indefinitely there may be more changes, but if it bounces back they can get more planes in the air. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In the latest episode of the Disrupt Education podcast, co-hosts Peter Hostrawser and Alli Privitt dive into a recap of their previous conversation with Scott Carr, exploring the deep and often challenging process of driving transformational change in education. They discuss the importance of being emotionally invested in change, moving beyond the "why" to the "what" and "how" of making lasting improvements in school culture. Peter and Alli reflect on Scott's insights about systematic change, emphasizing that real transformation in education is a slow and complex process that requires not just time, but a fundamental shift in mindset. They explore the concept of purpose in education—debating whether schools should focus on helping students "find" their purpose or "develop" it over time. Alli argues that developing purpose relieves pressure on students, allowing them to explore their interests and grow without the anxiety of having to know their life's direction by graduation. This episode is a powerful conversation on the necessity of rethinking the educational system to better serve both students and teachers. It's a must-listen for anyone interested in the future of education and how we can collectively move towards a more meaningful and purpose-driven approach to learning. Shepherding Screenwriting Talent Scott Carr, Management SGC – The Sharkpreneur podcast with Seth Greene Episode 880 Scott Carr Scott Carr was born in Ontario, Canada, where he fell in love with movies and television at a young age. His father, a fisherman and small business owner, was one of the first in his neighborhood to get a satellite dish, and Scott would spend more time than he rightfully should have watching television and learning all he could about the craft and business of movie making - to the extent at which he made his own 90 minute original action film with many brave friends in high school. He collected movies and amassed over 1,200 titles, having his own veritable video store in his college apartment. He majored in Kinesiology and Film Studies at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, where he also played football and did competitive amateur bodybuilding, and upon graduating, he immediately relocated from Canada to Los Angeles. He eventually got his start in Hollywood in the William Morris Agency mailroom in Summer 2008, where he worked until the merger with Endeavor. He also worked at UTA for 3 years, and spent a year as a development executive at Hollywood Gang Productions at Warner Bros., before starting the literary management company Management SGC where he represents writers and directors in film and television. Listen to this illuminating Sharkpreneur episode with Scott Carr about shepherding screenwriting talent. Here are some of the beneficial topics covered on this week's show: - How you need to make the right connections to make it the entertainment industry. - Why you should focus on the true representational needs of your client. - How starting and independent business is about realizing you must be self-sufficient. - Why you must build your business off the reputation you created working at other companies. - How to manage cash flow in your business when you don't know when you're going to get paid. Remember to rate and review GTP in iTunes: Click Here To Rate and Review Episode Details: California trial lawyers Taylor Rayfield of Manly Stewart Finaldi and Tobin Lanzetta of Greene, Broillet & Wheeler, LLP explain how they successfully represented their client Delia Flores after she was injured in a head-on collision caused by a driver whose employer was ultimately held responsible for his reckless driving. On a clear October afternoon in 2016, Delia was driving a Toyota Camry when she was hit head-on by an Audi attempting and failing to pass an 18-wheeler going 50 mph on a two-lane road. The Audi was driven by ConvergeOne, Inc. IT engineer Lewis Rocchetti, who was on his way home from work at 5:30 p.m. Because Lewis was a salaried employee who never officially clocked out and was expected to use his personal vehicle to respond to service calls, trial lawyers Taylor Rayfield and Tobin Lanzetta were able to utilize the vehicle-use exception to the Coming and Going Rule, holding Lewis's employer ConvergeOne, Inc. liable for Delia's traumatic brain injury and numerous orthopedic injuries. The defense countered that Lewis was not working or providing a benefit to ConvergeOne, Inc. at the time of the crash. In March 2019, a San Bernardino, California jury returned a verdict in favor of the plaintiff, awarding Delia $2.6 million in damages, resulting in one of the top 50 personal injury verdicts in California in 2019. Click Here to Read/Download the Complete Trial Documents Guest Bios: Taylor Rayfield Taylor Rayfield is a seasoned trial lawyer who has dedicated her practice to championing the rights of survivors, obtaining substantial trial verdicts and settlements in the process. Before joining Manly, Stewart & Finaldi, Taylor made a name for herself by obtaining incredible results on behalf of victims across a wide range of areas, including sexual assault, many times in difficult cases against considerable adversaries. Her practice is focused on representation of victims sexual abuse across a broad range of areas, including those abused by coaches, teachers, family members, mentors, and religious personnel. Never one to back down from a confrontation, Taylor obtained a $2,600,000.00 jury verdict for a woman who was severely injured after being involved in a head-on collision, after successfully convincing the jury that the employer was responsible for the acts of its employee under an exception to the “going and coming rule”. Taylor also demonstrated incredible tenacity and negotiation acumen by obtaining a $1,650,000.00 settlement, on the verge of trial, for a student-athlete who was sexually abused by his Torrance High School wrestling coach. This resolution secured an important benchmark for nearly 30 other sex abuse victims who had lawsuits slated for trial against the same defendants. Taylor represented the high school wrestler, who was molested by his coach—Thomas Snider—despite prior allegations that Snider had sexually assaulted an 11-year-old boy on a camping trip. The Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC) awarded Ms. Rayfield with the 2018 “Street Fighter of the Year Award” for her achievements in this matter—an award given to attorneys who achieve significant results in a difficult case. Playing a pivotal role on the trial team, Taylor won a hard-fought verdict against a California ski resort on behalf of a woman paralyzed in a catastrophic ski accident. The jury awarded the plaintiff a gross verdict of $22,000,000.00 against Mountain High Ski Resort. In another heavily contested case, Taylor assisted the trial team in securing a $6,300,000.00 settlement on behalf of a 14-year-old girl who was badly burned by a defective product at a family barbeque. The lawsuit uncovered a widespread danger after reports revealed more than 23 similar burn injuries, across the country, from these unsafe products. As lead trial counsel, Ms. Rayfield, representing a woman who slipped and fell while walking up the front stairs of her apartment, obtained a jury verdict in a personal injury trial that quadrupled the highest offer made by the defense. At trial, Taylor successfully convinced the jury that the entryway stairs were a dangerous condition due to the tile used and lack of protective measures. Taylor also helped obtain a $1,400,000.00 jury verdict in a personal injury lawsuit against a San Diego production company for failing to maintain the safety of its studio. The case involved Hollywood actress Tippi Hedren, who suffered significant injuries after she was injured due to a faulty roof. His $100+ million in case victories have demanded accountability from corporate and governmental wrongdoers. Tobin was named a 2016 California Consumer Attorney of the Year along with his colleagues Bruce Broillet, Scott Carr and Molly McKibben for their Erin Andrews v. Marriott $55 million trial result. Tobin's trial areas include catastrophic injury, wrongful death, brain injury, product liability, heavy machinery/trucking, train incidents, and government liability. Recently, a Ventura County Superior Court jury awarded nearly $3.5 million to Tobin's clients after a catastrophic forklift injury where the defendants took no responsibility. In one of the defining cases of his career, Tobin played an instrumental role in the high-profile Santa Monica Farmers Market cases. After an elderly man mowed down victims at the weekly farmers' market, the City of Santa Monica and other defendants paid $21 million to settle the lawsuits. Importantly, these cases led to the installation of protective barriers which ensures that the weekly farmers' market will be a safer environment for every person who visits. Tobin is a partner and has been named a “Super Lawyer” 2014-2018. He was also honored as a Super Lawyer “Rising Star” in 2005 and 2007-2013. Tobin graduated from Santa Clara University, after originally attending Swarthmore College. He received his law degree from the University of San Diego. Before Tobin attended law school he played baseball for the Montreal Expos and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations. The Deputy Athletics Director for UCF, one of the most innovative, creative, organizations in college athletics, joins us today. In his daily responsibilities, Scott has oversight of all external units, including Brand Advancement, Strategic Communications and Video Services, as well as being heavily involved in revenue generation. In a time right now where revenue is tight for all sports and live event organizations, we all need new ideas to engage our audience, our followers and our fans. And Scott’s been a key leader in an organization that has done a 180 in the last few years. On January 1, 2018, Danny White, UCF’s Athletic Director, declared UCF the National Champions after a 13-0 undefeated season, despite not getting a chance to compete for the official national championship. Even before that public declaration of rebellion against the status quo, UCF had created an internal culture of innovation, one that challenged traditions and focused on engaging their young fan base and employees. When you’re not a traditional superpower in your market, the success UCF has had is hard to achieve. They got there by taking risks, experimenting, and ultimately creating and sustaining a culture of innovation. All the headlines usually go to massive capital investments in experiences like tailgating in a lazy river, or putting a beach in the stadium. But those headlines are the result of a 100 little things that have been done to foster a culture of creativity and innovation. Things like changing department names and role titles, the experience and demographics of your staff members, the metrics people are held accountable too, and more. If you’re a smaller player in your market trying to make waves and topple the big guys, this episode is for you. And honestly, if you are the big guy thinking you can’t get any better cuz you’re already at the top? You’re gonna get toppled by the organizations that think like Scott and UCF. If you’re not innovating, you’re dying.

Applications written in C/C++ are prone to memory corruption, which allows attackers to extract secrets or gain control of the system. With the rise of strong control-flow hijacking defenses, non-control data attacks have become the dominant threat. As vulnerabilities like HeartBleed have shown, such attacks are equally devastating.Data Confidentiality and Integrity (DCI) is a low-overhead non-control-data protection mechanism for systems software. DCI augments the C/C++ programming languages with annotations, allowing the programmer to protect selected data types. The DCI compiler and runtime system prevent illegal reads (confidentiality) and writes (integrity) to instances of these types. The programmer selects types that contain security critical information such as passwords, cryptographic keys, or identification tokens. Protecting only this critical data greatly reduces performance overhead relative to complete memory safety. Our prototype implementation of DCI, DataShield, shows the applicability and efficiency of our approach. For SPEC CPU2006, the performance overhead is at most 16.34%. For our case studies, we instrumented mbedTLS, astar, and libquantum to show that our annotation approach is prac- tical. The overhead of our SSL/TLS server is 35.7% with critical data structures protected at all times. Our security evaluation shows DataShield mitigates a recently discovered vulnerability in mbedTLS. About the speaker: Scott A. Carr is a PhD Candidate in Computer Science at Purdue University, where he works with his advisor Mathias Payer in the HexHive research group. His research interests are security, programming languages, and program analysis. Scott's thesis topic is mitigating vulnerabilities in systems software written in C/C++ using compiler-based techniques. His work has appeared (or will soon appear) in ACM AsiaCCS, NDSS, IEEE TSE, and ACM CSUR.

On this episode of Gritty Bowmen we visit with friend Scott Carr at Brent Hahn's home in Salem Oregon at after Joel Turner’s Iron Mind Hunting shooting clinic. I first met Scott at the Train To Hunt event in Enumclaw Washington. My first impression of Scott, watching him shoot and run the Train To Hunt course, is that he’s an animal--a fierce competitor who gives everything he’s got. The man has heart, determination, and an iron will. Scott didn’t used to be the fit guy he is today. In fact, before Train To Hunt, Scott was your typical 9 to 5, overweight, company man. But Scott made decision to change all that. And this weekend he took 3rd-place in the 2016 Train To Hunt Nationals Event, Master’s Division. There are a lot of things that impress me about Scott Carr--but one thing that stands out to me is how he makes a decision to get better and then finds a way to do it. On this podcast, Scott tells his inspiring story. We get a peak into his mind and we learn a little about how he thinks and what drives him. Scott is one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met who also wants to crush you in a competition. I think that’s one of the reasons I like him so much. He’s a competitor, and fierce one. Meet Scott Carr.
