Send us a textTwo shopping-based game shows? Weird but true news stories from the 1960s? Laughable 1980s music fails?Episode 181 kicks off the month of love with some nostalgia sweeter than candy hearts. It all starts with a look back to the strangeness of the past. Weird but true news stories from the 1960s are on the docket. From innocent to malicious, from dirty to downright crazy, these stories all seem like they couldn't be true, but oh they are.Shopping can be a contact sport, just ask people during Black Friday sales. However, we go way back in the day to look at a pair of shopping-based game shows. Supermarket Sweep and Shop Til You Drop both carved a niche in the 1990s. Fast-paced, fun, frantic, these words can all describe these shows. The 1980s were a great decade for music. Judging by this week's Top 5 some might disagree. We will look back at some of the biggest music failures of the 80s. From albums to videos to musicals that shouldn't have existed. The sisters discuss all things shopping and whether adult beverages are required when shopping with teenagers. They answer a listener question about bikinis after fifty, and dismiss some outdated fashion rules. Also, Nancy has been keeping a secret since the three were teenagers and finally confesses! If you have a question for the sisters, record a voice note (It's easy, ask your kids if you don't know how) and email it to 3LFPod@gmail.com. Or if you'd rather you can just submit a written question, either way we'd just love to hear from you!WHATS FOR DINNER:YAKI SOBA 22 oz fresh yakisoba noodles or 12 oz dried chow mein stir-fry noodles, or ramen noodles. ⅓ cup soy sauce 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1 tablespoon mirin 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce 8 slices (8 oz) bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces or any protein such as chicken with 1/2Tbsp of oil. 4 scallions, white and green parts separated, thinly sliced 2 carrots, thinly sliced on a diagonal, about ⅛-inch thick 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced ½ pound green cabbage, cut into 1-inch pieces (about 3½ cups) ¼ teaspoon salt ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepperINSTRUCTIONS If using dried noodles, boil the noodles: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Cook the noodles until very al dente. (The noodles I use call for 3 minutes of boiling; I cook them for 2½ minutes. If the timing is different on your package, reduce the time accordingly.) Drain and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process. (If using fresh noodles, skip this step.) Make the Yakisoba Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, Worcestershire, mirin, and hoisin sauce. Make the Stir-Fry: Add the bacon to a cold nonstick skillet. Turn the heat to medium high and cook, stirring frequently, until the bacon is crispy, 4 to 5 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the bacon to a medium bowl, leaving the fat in the skillet. To the same skillet, add the scallion whites, carrots, and onion and cook until the onion is translucent, 3 to 4 minutes. Do not brown; reduce heat if necessary. Add the cabbage cook until soft, about 4 minutes. Season with the salt and pepper. Transfer the vegetables to the bowl with the bacon. To the now empty skillet, add the fresh or drained noodles. Cook for a few minutes, until warmed through. Add about half of the yakisoba sauce to the noodles and toss until evenly coated. Return the vegetables and bacon to the skillet and toss to combine. Taste the dish, and if more flavor is needed, add the remaining sauce little by little; you may not need all of it. Sprinkle with the dark green scallions

Justine Cullen has spent her life writing for and about women. A reformed beauty editor and award-winning fashion magazine editor, she has formerly held the roles of Editor-in-Chief of the much beloved SHOP Til You Drop and ELLE Australia magazines. Under Justine's direction, ELLE Australia became known for its publishing innovation, championing of women, diversity of talent, and brave and globally celebrated cover executions. Justine is known for her sometimes amusing, sometimes provocative, generally self-indulgent editor's letters, and for her speaking appearances, where she's discussed everything from the demise of fast fashion to ethics in artificial intelligence. Justine was recently appointed Editor-in-Chief at INSTYLE Australia as well as published her own book Semi-Gloss, which pulls back the glossy facade of magazines. Cullen traces her life and lengthy career in the beauty industry, from her days as a 16-year-old in 1990s Sydney longing to appear on a magazine masthead to landing at the very top as Elle Australia's editor-in-chief in 2013—a glamorous role that proved so gruelling she left five years later. Tory and Justine have know each other for almost two decades. They discuss: ✨ What does it take to become an editor of a global magazine?✨ What stories drive global conversation?  ✨ How is Australia driving this conversation?✨ What topics matter to women and how can they become apart of the magazine world by sharing the power of their story?   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Infinitely chic and bursting with life, Paula Joye, is the creator of successful style website ‘The Joye’ and former editor of some of our favourite magazines (think Cleo, Shop til you Drop and Madison). She’s one of the few Aussie women over forty who’ve nailed the transition from traditional media to social media, turning her skills and herself into a trusted brand, all while unapologetically dancing in her bathroom, teaching herself the piano, and rocking a leather jacket/ball gown combo. Paula’s no-nonsense wit and laugh aloud stories of parenting teen daughters, telling off council workers, eating dirt (!), saying no to lattes and yes to JLo, made us fall head over heels for her. She is unpretentious, endearing and wise. So, what happens when you give yourself permission to love what you love? We find out in FORTY. We're told to go to the shops once a week max, but then there's nothing there. We want to support local businesses but also don't have money coming in.And if you run a store how are coping? Should you be discounting? Should you be sharing Covid 19 news? How do you stop the panic and not abandon your brand values and how do you build connection and community with your audience. We'll cover all this and more today and I chat with Belinda Austin from 6ft6 wines - who gives her very smart perspective.

Hello and welcome to Beauty Island, the award-nominated beauty podcast that celebrates life and lipstick.I’m your host, beauty journalist, Brittany Stewart. Each episode, I sit down with a guest and ask them about the 8 beauty products that have a special memory or meaning for them. The ones they’d take to a desert island, or Beauty Island, that I am sending them off too.Maybe it’s the first beauty product they ever bought, the one that gives them their signature look, or the perfume that instantly sparks a memory of a special place or person.Along the way we find out more about their life, career and the people and events that have shaped them into who they are today. My usual disclaimer in these strange and unprecedented times - this interview was recorded before Corona hit, so I hope you can enjoy it as an escape and adventure into something a little lighter.Today, my guest is Paula Joye, journalist, content creator and founder of The Joye.com, and former editor of some of Australia’s top magazines, working across Cleo, Madison, Mode and Shop Til You Drop. She is brilliant, driven, and in a true reflection of her name, utterly joyful.I caught up with Paula in Sydney to talk about working in the halcyon years of magazines after getting her start at Vogue, the musical champions that mark the chapters of her life, the shift of power from magazines to social media and the implications of that, particularly bringing up teenage daughters, and among other great recommendations, her go-to face potion for glowing skin and the best mascara for short lashes. It will also challenge you to look at bumper stickers in a completely new way - you’ll have to listen to the end to make full sense of that!As always if you enjoy this episode, please subscribe, rate five stars and write a review.
