It's time for Modern Monster Movie March! We open with Bong Joon-Ho's breakthrough 2007 classic, THE HOST! Rowan, Kev, Carli, and Carli's fiance Bryant get together to talk about what Korean cinema does and how this film its, how fucking rad Bae Doona is, how fucking rad Song Kang-Ho is, how fucking bad America is, and a heartwarming story of child alcoholism.
This week, David and Justus board the rattling ark for a steampunk train ride to discuss Bong Joon-Ho's Snowpiercer. Justus loses his mind about how freezing a dude's arm and smashing it with a hammer is a pretty awesome torture method. David, on the other hand, unveils his Advanced Willy Wonka Theory and how this film applies to it. And together, the boys both agree that the protein bars made of bugs kinda look delicious. Grab a hand axe and fight back against the ruling class on this post-apocalyptic installment of The Greatest Movie Ever Made! Snowpiercer (2013) is directed by Bong Joon-Ho and stars Chris Evans, Song Kang-Ho, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton and Jamie Bell. Music: “Fractals” by Kyle Casey and White Bat Audio
On this episode of I Am The Wiz, Wiz reviews the 2013 science fiction thriller Snowpiercer starring Chris Evans, Song Kang-Ho, Jaime Bell, Octavia Spencer, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton and Ed Harris, directed by Bong Joon-Ho.
Episode 60: PARASITE Listen in this week as break into the top ten with the 2019 South Korean film Parasite. It's our second straight movie about the conflict between rich and poor, but that's probably the extent of its similarities to It Happened One Night. Well, that and the fact that they're both great. Song Kang Ho plays the head of a very poor family in Seoul. Their prospects begin to turn around as they infiltrate a very wealthy household one-by-one. And then things take a turn. Parasite was the first and so far only non-English language film to win Best Picture. It ranks #10 on our countdown.* Spoiler Alert: We talk about the movie in its entirety, so if you haven't yet seen it, check it out. Or not. That ball is in your court. Come back next week for the number nine, Milos Foreman's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. *What is this list? We explain it in more detail in our Trailer and its Description, but as a high-level answer: we aggregated several different lists that rank the ninety-four winners of the Best Picture Academy Award in a rough attempt to get a consensus. It is not intended to be rigorous or definitive. It's just a framework to guide our journey through cinema history.

Have you emailed moviemasters760@gmail.com yet? If not, write in with any comments, questions, or movies you'd like to hear the Movie Masters review. This episode catches the gang fresh out of catching "Missing," the standalone sequel to "Searching." Can a movie that takes place entirely on phone and computer screens sustain a near 2 hour run time? In addition to the regular review and analysis, there's no shortage of Easter Eggs that you'll be able to look out for on a rewatch or first watch. The concept of the "Regal Wrinkle" is introduced on the fly, as is the "MOTY." Up next is a limited unexpected San Diego-centric release called "The Wedding Hustler," which ran for a day or two at the local theater. Hear the gang's hyper-enthusiasm over discovering the local nature of the film whilst actually watching it together in an empty theater at what was ostensibly supposed to be the San Diego (world?) premiere. Hear even more of the gang's hyper-enthusiasm upon realizing that the film was made by and stars Filipinos, yet was ponderously not screened even once at the Mira Mesa location. Is one Movie Master truly falling in love with faith-based cinema? SOLO MISSION: the last remaining Movie Master to take on a solo mission went and watched "Broker," a South Korean film about selling babies. It is learned that Song Kang Ho, star of "Parasite" and "The Host," also leads this film. Learn who the second nominee for "MOTY" is. In the news, the Movie Masters take a look at the most recent round of cuts in terms of Regal theater closures around the nation this month. Not only does it have local implications, but it also changes the face of moviegoing in major cities and smaller markets imminently. Channing Tatum vehemently hated being in the "G.I. Joe" franchise: learn why. This episode closes out with a sneak peak at 6 locks for "Best Picture" and all of the other contenders at this year's Oscars, much to the delight of the same Movie Master who longs for more faith-based cinema. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rmmu/support

World-renowned director Hirokazu Kore-eda's ("Shoplifters") latest film "Broker" had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where actor Song Hang-ho ("Parasite") won the festival's Best Actor prize. The South Korean film was later picked up by NEON and is now playing in New York and will be opening in Los Angeles on December 28th. (spoiler: no). Life, Petit Paysan, After Blue (Dirty Paradise), Catherine Called Birdy, Significant Other). Emergency Declaration (비상선언)This unassumingly titled airplane thriller has a shockingly stacked cast, including Song Kang-Ho, Lee Byung-Hun, Jeon Do-Yeon and Kim Nam-Gil. We are thrilled that Amber T of Hornbloodfire podcast came to join us and offered her knowledge on Korean Cinema. We discuss films like THIRST, PARASITE, and THE HOST. And of course we discuss Song Kang-Ho's incredible smile.
This is a 2022 drama film directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, his first Korean-language feature. Broker is Kore-eda's return to Cannes for the first time since he won the Palme d'Or for 2018's Shoplifters. It got a 12 minute standing ovation at Cannes beating the incredible Thirst by Park Chan-wook for longest Cannes standing ovation for a Korean film. It also won Song Kang-ho the best actor award. This is a NON-SPOILER review, so you can safely listen if you haven't seen the film yet.If you want to donate to Baby Box, please go here: https://babyboxkorea.give.asia/campaign/the-pastor-who-saved-1-600-babies#/This film is about a baby who is abandoned in something called a baby box, and is retrieved by a pair of guys who consider themselves "good will brokers", sort of guardian angels, who try to pair up unwanted babies with good parents – for a fee. They aren't running a charity, and infact the older guy Sang-hyun is in considerable financial trouble as the movie opens which creates a bit of a ticking clock for how quickly he needs to move this baby. But the movie takes pains to show they are goodies at the end of the day and they help people "adopt" a baby when they can't otherwise, like they've helped a couple of gay guys to get a kid for example, they want the baby to have a good home, and derserving would be parents with no recourse to naturally and/ or legally have a baby have the opportunity. His younger counterpart Dongsoo volunteers at the church where the baby box is located, and was himself abandoned as a baby.So one dark and rainy night, a very young woman arrives at the church and drops off this baby, on the floor not even the box tbh, and leaves a note promising to come back. It's an irresistible hook for the start of the movie, everyone loves Tokyo Godfathers, we all want this baby to get home or to get to a home, and we're going to find out what happens. After Dongsoo and Sang-hyun pick up the baby and get it warmed up and fed they plan to find it a home for its own good and their financial benefit, and plan to head off for a rendezvous with an interested couple. So-young however turns up again having had a change of heart, and goes with them to make sure the kid gets a good home. So a large part of the movie becomes a very bizarre road movie about a highly misfit group of people acting as a family to escape notice and trying to sell on this precious little bundle. Meanwhile two police detectives are trying to catch the group in the act of selling the baby, having been observing their operation. The plotting of the movie is more intricate and faster-paced in some ways than I expected, I found Shoplifters quite gentle until the jeopardy increased in the back half of the film, whereas this really clips along and theres always a lot happening with the characters that kept me glued to the screen. The K-botak Podcast is a podcast where I review Korean films and television series or K-dramasJoin the conversation on Twitter, be part of the K-botak community and discuss your favourite shows, movies, actors and more.Follow K-botak on Buzzsprout and catch the show on Spotify, Apple, Google and most places you get podcasts.Music used in this episode:'In the Beginning was Rain''Saddle the Wind''Fleeing from the Past''To Be a Bird'By Jung Jaeil, from BROKER: Original Score by Jung Jaeil

We break down Bong Joon-Ho's 2003 masterpiece, "Memories of Murder." We talk about Bong's early days as a student protestor and Song Kang-Ho's character's obsession with hairless monks. After we break the movie down and discuss it, we pair Memories of Murder with two other films. Thanks for listening!Created by Spike Alkire & Jake KelleyTheme Song by Breck McGough

Director Bong Joon Ho discusses his latest film PARASITE with Landmark Theatres CEO Ted Mundorff following an advance screening of the film at the Landmark in Los Angeles on 10/1/19. Watch a different PARASITE Q&A on Landmark Theatres' Youtube Channel also featuring actors Song Kang Ho and Park So Dam: https://youtu.be/thH76Ju2hts Bong Joon Ho (Okja, Snowpiercer, The Host, Mother) brings his singular mastery home to Korea in this pitch-black modern fairytale. Meet the Park Family: the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide “indispensable” luxury services while the Parks obliviously bankroll their entire household. When a parasitic interloper threatens the Kims' newfound comfort, a savage, underhanded battle for dominance breaks out, threatening to destroy the fragile ecosystem between the Kims and the Parks. By turns darkly hilarious and heart-wrenching, Parasite showcases a modern master at the top of his game. Winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
This is a very special episode of The Geekdom Fancast, not just because the film we're talking about is one of the best reviewed movies of the year (deservingly so) but also because we were able to chat with the cast! That's right, we were able to watch a special screening of Bong Joon Ho's new masterpiece Parasite! We get into our non-spoilers review of the film and its multilayered laughs and thrills. Then we chat with Song Kang Ho, Park So Dam, and Choi Woo Shik about what they hope audiences take away from the film, what it was like shooting on such elaborate sets, and the experience of working with Bong Joon-Ho! Warning: the interview contains MAJOR spoilers for the film, so make sure you watch it before listening! The interview with the cast begins at 27 minutes and 51 seconds (27:51)
