Season 20, Episode 18: Coming to you from the absurd penthouse terrace with a clear view of the Lord's pitch, Adam and Geoff are back together. England have been thumped by New Zealand, and Ben Stokes is coming back for the third Test, but his relationship with Brendon McCullum might be strained after the strange Baz comments "worrying" about his team's captain. Also this week, Sooryavanshi destroys another record as Beatlemania threatens, and we attended a World Cricket Association just before recording to look at the game's governance. Hi there! Welcome to Episode 348 of Never on the Backfoot Podcast. The rise of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been nothing short of extraordinary, but is Indian cricket moving too fast?In this episode, we look at the 15-year-old Sooryavanshi, who has taken the Indian Premier League by storm, showcasing fearless batting, composure beyond his years, and the kind of impact that has everyone talking about a potential India debut already. But amidst the hype, questions remain: is he truly ready for the senior stage, or does he need time to grow?We break down his meteoric rise, analyse what makes him stand out technically and mentally, and dive into the bigger debate around fast-tracking young talent in modern cricket. We also unpack insights from Anil Kumble, who has urged caution, highlighting the risks of rushing a prodigy into international cricket too soon. With Team India's future tours and squad transitions in mind, we explore where Sooryavanshi could fit, what his ideal pathway should look like, and whether the system is equipped to nurture a talent like him the right way.Is this the arrival of India's next big star or a moment that demands patience over pressure?
Some classic duels took place in the IPL this week. Virat Kohli v KG Rabada, Shubman Gill v Josh Hazlewood, Jos Buttler v Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi against everyone. Simon Hughes and Deep Dasgupta convey the exhilaration of watching such talent on show, and marvel at the conflicting emotions and unbridled passion of Kohli himself. Indian prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues his meteorological rise in the IPL for the Rajasthan Royals. The batter, who has only just turned 15 stars with the bat yet again for his side, has made two 50+ scores this tournament - but how does he do it? Former England all-rounder Samit Patel and Traitors finalist Faraaz Noor join Amber Sandhu to discuss all the latest headlines from the Indian Premier League. Plus, Patel discusses his time in an England shirt and tells us what his only regret was when playing international cricket.
In this episode of the show, Stu and Raj discuss the second week of IPL 2026, focusing on RCB v MI, GT v LSG, RR sitting at the top of the ladder and a few other things that have caught their eye so far. We start the show by discussing RCB's most recent victory over the Mumbai Indians. Did Stu make a huge mistake leaving RCB out of his pre-tournament top 4? It's certainly looking that way after Phil Salt joined Rajat Patidar, Virat Kohli, Tim David and friends in finding the middle of his bat. Josh Hazelwood has returned too, but how much will he play? For Mumbai, is it time to sound the alarm? Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult aren't taking wickets, Mitchell Santner's bowling in the powerplay, Rohit Sharma is injured and they find themselves near the bottom of the ladder despite their star-studded lineup. Can they bounce back? Or are these losses a sign of things to come? As we turn our attention to GT v LSG, we also look back at Gujarat's final-ball thriller against the Delhi Capitals, which saw Prasidh Krishna and Jos Buttler combine to thwart David Miller's late flurry. We discuss Rashid Khan's early form, then agree that GT is on the improve and LSG are a good but not great side. Next, it's the table-topping Rajasthan Royals in the spotlight, particularly their openers Vaibhav Suryavanshi and the moustachioed Yashasvi Jaiswal. Is it realistic to think they could they finish the season as the best openers from an impressive collection in IPL 2026? Finally, Raj asks Stu's thoughts on the Sunrisers Hyderabad's start to the season and we bounce around a few quick notes, including Sanju Samson's impressive hundred that saw CSK capture their first win of the season. From Kinoplus with love: Adios.

On today's episode of Cyrus Says, we are joined by the real life Sooryavanshi, Vishwas Nangre Patil, Joint CP Law and Order and the Author of 'Head Held High'. Cyrus talks to Vishwas Nangre about coming from a small town from the outskirts of Kolhapur in Maharashtra, and asks him about the need for political VIPs who create traffic in South Mumbai. Vishwas talks about giving his first interview in English while he had a background of coming from a small town and being more comfortable with Marathi at the time, being open to discussing all the things he has done, and coming from a family that loved wrestling but not being much of a wrestler himself. Further we see him reciting a poem called “Khaki”, describing what a police officer's day is like today especially during festival season, sharing a room with R Madhavan in his college days, still being friends with him and the things he learnt from Madhavan, and lots more. He also talks about his love for bikes and about busting some major rave parties across the city. He also tells us about his experiences fighting the terrorists at the Taj Hotel on 26/11, and how he and his squad combatted the terrorists with only two pistols in total. The Diwali weekend saw the biggest line-up of movies since the covid-19 pandemic hit the industry, with box office takings sending positive signals for the future of the film business. In the latest episode of its show, 'Business of Entertainment', Mint's Lata Jha goes through the financial performance of what's buzzing in the world of entertainment.
Akshay Kumar and Ranveer Singh's Sooryavanshi has become the first big-budget Bollywood film to be released on the big screen since the coronavirus outbreak. Directed by Rohit Shetty, this action-drama was originally scheduled to arrive in cinema halls in March 2020. But it finally released on November 5th, a day after Diwali, after a delay of 19 months. The long wait, however, paid off for the makers of Sooryavanshi, as the movie released to a resounding response. It grossed Rs 50 crore in the two days of the Diwali weekend and is projected to garner Rs 125 crore in the first seven days. That will be enough for the producers to break even. The movie has also become the biggest opening for Akshay Kumar. The film has already recovered part of the cost by selling digital rights to Netflix and broadcasting rights to Zee Entertainment, apart from its music rights. According to industry estimates, these three rights have been sold for roughly Rs 200 crore. Meanwhile, Tamil superstar Rajinikanth's Diwali release Annaathe is also breaking records. The film opened to negative reviews from critics but that has not stopped audiences from flocking to theatres to watch the superstar back in action. The film, which features a huge star cast, has collected Rs 50 crore in the first two days and is estimated to have already crossed Rs 100 crore in total earnings. The release of Hollywood film Eternals, the latest instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is adding variety to India's big releases after Diwali. The film experienced a strong weekend collection of about Rs 18 crore in India. But can this festival momentum sustain? Theatres are optimistic about more big releases, hoping they would put an end to their troubles. But some producers are still opting for direct OTT releases, leaving theatre owners displeased. In one such example, all five upcoming releases of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal are releasing on streaming platforms. On whether such platforms will eat into theatre revenues, this is what PVR Managing Director Ajaj Bijli told Business Standard's Ram Prasad Sahu in a recent interview. He said: Content acquisition by OTTs jumped since theatres were shut Some content will still go to OTT Enough number of movies will release in theatres now Nevertheless, the Diwali box-office performance has decisively shown that the public is more eager than ever to return to cinemas in the world's biggest movie market. The upbeat box office collection during the Diwali weekend comes despite the fact that as many as 1,000 screens have permanently shut down due to the impact of the coronavirus lockdowns. Moreover, some states like Maharashtra, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana are still allowing cinemas to operate with only 50% capacity. Maharashtra is the biggest market for Bollywood, accounting for around 30% of its all-India box-office revenues. PVR's Bijli also spoke about when the company might cross pre-pandemic revenue levels. He said: Most states still at 50% theatre capacity Things may come back to normal by Q4 Possible third wave, capacity restrictions are only constraints Multiplexes are now batting for the lifting of restrictions on theatre occupancy. But states are treading cautiously on this front as they look to prevent a third wave of COVID-19. India's daily COVID cases have dipped to a nine-month low, hovering near the 11,000-mark. If the current trend continues, it will not take long before cinemas start seeing revenue above the pre-pandemic levels Watch Video

Minutes after the Indian stock markets opened on Friday, the benchmark index Nifty hit the 10 per cent lower circuit, halting trade for 45 minutes. Things were no different for the global markets as they too registered deep cuts during overnight trading. No doubt, the rapid spread of Coronavirus and the global sell-off were the main triggers, deciding the market’s trajectory. But that’s not all of it, folks! The novel Coronavirus, which was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation on Wednesday, has affected people from all walks of life and so also their businesses. And that’s what we will be talking about. Here's a look at the global impact of Coronavirus pandemic: As the panic gripping world's financial markets deepend and safe haven assets failed to cover losses, Asian markets too, crashed on Friday, after both New York and London markets reported their worst session since the Black Monday crash of October 1987. In the early trading hours, Nifty hit the 10 per cent lower circuit halting trade for 45 minutes. We can say this was expected and indicated by the SGX Nifty plunging over 700 points. To recapitulate, Circuit Breaker is the mechanism which is used to bring normalcy in markets when the index moves at 10 per cent, 15 per cent, and 20 per cent in either direction. Once, the index hits circuit breaker, trading in the entire market gets suspended for a period of time, or trades are only conducted within the stipulated threshold. Well, so much about the markets. Now, let’s take a look at how Coronavirus has become an unprecedented situation for the travel industry and global events. Recently, US President Donald Trump announced a unilateral ban on travel from 26 EU countries. As a result, the industry axed more flights in order to sustain the losses. The drastic decline in trans-Atlantic flights will hit the aviation industry, which is already facing a crisis due to a steep decline in bookings because of pandemic fears. According to data from the aviation analyst OAG, the unilateral ban will affect 13,500 flights and 4 million passengers in the next four weeks. Several sporting events like Formula One Australian Grand Prix, La Liga, and other major events have either been cancelled or will be conducted in empty stadiums. Many seminars, movie releases - James Bond movie - No Time To Die, Sooryavanshi, Mulan, Fast 9 - have been postponed. Rock concerts have aken a hit. School, colleges, coaching centres, and all educational institutes have been shut. The whole of Italy is under quarantine. Deaths in Iran and Italy are rising. The number of cases in India are also increasing. The reason behind quarantines and travel bans is simply to contain the spread of the virus without creating mass panic. All this and much more goes on to tell the extent of the pandemic and measures being taken by the governments of the world to do some damage control.
The third film in director Rohit Shetty's 'cop universe', Sooryavanshi, stars Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif as leads, along with Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh.Sooryavanshi, and most of these 'action-dramas', have a hollow, unidimensional characterization of females leads. In most of these movies, female leads have only one purpose - to be the hero's love interest. In fact, in Rohit Shetty's previous film, Simmba, Sara Ali Khan had all of two dialogues in the film. However, the bigger question isn't just about why such roles are not well-developed. Rather, it is about why the directors feel that's all that a female actor can contribute to the story? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/br01films/message

This week on FC Flash, Akshay Kumar announces that Sooryavanshi will arrive in theaters on Eid 2020. Sooryavanshi is the fourth film in Rohit Shetty’s police universe. Abhishek Chaubey’s Sonchiriya a film, about dakus in an existential crisis, was a critical hit but a commercial failure. It was speculated that one reason might be the Bundelkhandi dialect, which alienated viewers. The film was released with English subtitles but a Hindi dubbed version was also released. The film’s lead Sushant Singh Rajput tweeted that neither he nor the film’s senior cast had dubbed for the Hindi version and that this news was heartbreaking. Meanwhile, the logo of Brahmastra was released on Mahashivratri at the Kumbh mela. The film is one of Bollywood’s most ambitious attempts to create a homegrown fantasy franchise. Akshay Kumar wasn’t the only action star in the news this week. The trailers of John Abraham’s Romeo Akbar Walter and Vidyut Jammwal’s Junglee dropped. It was also a good week for Vicky Kaushal who has stepped into Irrfan’s very big shoes and will now be playing freedom fighter Udham Singh in the biopic being directed by Shoojit Sircar.
