How often do we hold ourselves back from venturing outside our comfort zones, even when we know that growth and learning lie just beyond? This episode features Steve Fox, sales director at Experian, who shares his thoughts on why embracing the 'learning zone' is paramount for not just salespeople, but anyone looking to expand their skills and perspectives. We discuss the mindset that drives high performing salespeople and how younger professionals can adopt these traits. We also discuss the profound impact of social media on performance, the power of journaling and self-reflection, and why reading a broad range of topics can lead to a better understanding of people and different perspectives. Does your life purpose align with your actions, and how does this alignment (or lack thereof) impact your success? In our conversation with Steve, we discuss the importance of discovering your purpose and making a positive imprint in the world. From raising children to chasing a passion, we discuss how individuals can strive to make a difference and leave a legacy. Along the way, we touch on the positive and negative messages that social media disseminates about finding purpose. One key takeaway is the importance of being a resilient and positive leader, particularly during emotional fluctuations. --------- EPISODE CHAPTERS --------- (0:00:00) - Developing Salespeople (0:09:44) - Stepping Outside Comfort Zone Is Important (0:18:15) - Find Purpose, Make Positive Impact --------- EPISODE CHAPTERS WITH SUMMARIES --------- (0:00:00) - Developing Salespeople (10 Minutes) This chapter explores the importance of mindset and attitude in developing high-performing salespeople, specifically younger professionals. Being open to challenging our own thinking and seeking new viewpoints is essential for improving as a salesperson. Steve Fox is the winner of the Rick Bass Montana Prize for Fiction, The Great Midwest Writing Contest, the Jade Ring Award, and a Midwestern Gothic Summer Flash Contest. His fiction has appeared in New Ohio Review, Orca, a Literary Journal, Midwest Review, Midwestern Gothic, Wisconsin People & Ideas, Whitefish Review, and others. He holds a Master of Arts in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and has lived and worked in four continents. Steve now resides in his home state of Wisconsin with his wife, Stephanie, three boys, and one dog. The seventeen unrelenting stories in Steve Fox's debut story collection, Sometimes Creek (Cornerstone Press, 2023), traverse a sub-zero trail of plausible magic and grit from a kaleidoscope of broken ice at a hockey rink in Wisconsin that coils through haunted rivers and around dangling legs of jamón serrano in sweltering Spanish bars and back again to a place where Kafka and Carver meet up on the page. Fox's clean prose takes you by the hand and weaves a tapestry of tenderness, dissonance, indifference, dystopia, and charm into that gauzy space that collectively takes shape in your hands as Sometimes Creek. For our loyal Green Rush listeners we are happy to share a special episode recorded from early May by our friends at MJ Today memorializing the great cannabis activist Steve Fox. While we never worked directly with Steve, his role in challenging the stigma of cannabis and the fight he took on for years is one of the reasons the industry exists today as it does and why we have legal marijuana in the first place. In this episode, Kris Krane, Betty Aldworth, Andrew Livingston, Jordan Wellington and Mason Tvert dive into the life and legacy of Steve and remember all the work he accomplished advocating for and advancing the legal cannabis industry. The Marijuana Today is a podcast about the business and politics of marijuana. It is a nerdy and in-depth discussion for those who want a behind the scenes look at the latest marijuana news. Every week MJ Today aims to have the highest-level conversation around about the latest developments in the marijuana industry, the politics of legalization, and the effectiveness of public policy. So don't sit back, lean forward and enjoy! This week we look at New Mexico and Virginia and the 4 other states that could possibly join them in legalizing this year. And then we look at one of those 4 states -- Delaware -- where activists have called for a boycott of four of the state’s medical cannabis providers for testifying against the adult use bill in the legislature. And finally, we look at the case of an American locked up abroad in Dubai for cannabis metabolites that appeared in his urine. We’ll be discussing all this and more on the BEST cannabis podcast in the business… As we like to say around here, “Everyone knows what happened in marijuana today, but you need to know what’s happening in Marijuana Tomorrow!” ----more---- SHOW NOTES Please Help Support the Family of Steve Fox by making a donation to https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-the-family-of-steve-fox----more----SEGMENT 1 - We've got 4, will we get 4 more? https://www.marijuanamoment.net/new-mexico-governor-signs-marijuana-legalization-bill-making-state-third-to-enact-reform-within-days/ https://www.marijuanamoment.net/virginia-lawmakers-approve-governors-marijuana-amendment-to-speed-up-legalization/ https://www.marijuanamoment.net/four-more-states-could-still-legalize-marijuana-this-year-after-new-mexico-new-york-and-virginia/----more----Segment 2: Boycott, Girlcott, E-I-E-I-O https://www.marijuanamoment.net/delaware-marijuana-activists-stage-boycott-of-medical-dispensaries-that-testified-against-legalization-bill/----more----Segment 3 - Dubai’ing for His Freedom https://nypost.com/2021/04/10/american-faces-jail-time-in-dubai-after-pot-found-in-urine/ https://www.vice.com/en/article/k78eg3/new-york-weed-legalization-japan

Greetings to the Living, to the farthest reaching arms of the world tree. This time on the Up Is Down Podcast my lady and I had a discussion with the fantastic Mario Garza about the prolific mythology of solar worship perhaps used as interference and subversion of an otherwise more ancient deification of Polar mythos. Mario lays out some evidence that what humans on earth regard as solar deity orthodoxy could in fact be inverted Polar worship made acceptable and common in our calendar chronology by way of holiday celebrations and misuse of linguistics. Mario has been "doing the work" on this topic for some time and makes a pretty compelling case for the matter. Of course this proposition begs the question, why would we be taught something opposite of historical and mythological reality? What would be the ramifications to knowing the possible true history of the worlds religions as polar worship versus solar worship? What harm could be done to human life on earth to understand the universe as toroidal and cyclical, ever repeating and infinite?Tune in to this episode of Up Is Down and consider these questions and more.Mario Garza's work can be found here:symbolicstudies.com***executive producer Up Is Down Ep 91: Steve Fox*****associate executive producer Ep 91: David Medus**+ T H A N K Y O U V E R Y M U C H +((((S U P P O R T THE S H O W))))https://paypal.me/frankenbones?locale.x=en_USBitCoinCash BCH: qzgwfjeu5vp634h84zzurw8kdah5j3cuxg8daq6qrk. “The fans just want to know who the fuck the artist is.” —Andre "Herm" Lewis About: For a place that proudly heralds slogans like #BlackLivesMatter, the homes of San Francisco house very few Black people. What’s happened to the African-American community in San Francisco is a much more complex tale than just being pushed out by young and transient up-and-comers. Instead, it involves a deeply-rooted history spread across generations with a comet-sized impact that is still being felt today. And for the sake of this three-part story, it begins with the very polarizing San Francisco nickname: Frisco. In Part I, we explore why some view this term to be as offensive as the F-word and spend some time with those who simply don’t give a fuck. Steve Fox has bottled the magic of Miniature Golf … shaken it up … and let it explode all over the walls, floors and ceiling. Building a magical universe that can withstand "the rigors of 8 year old boys and 30 year old drunks…" and "all of the terrible things that can happen when you arm a bunch of people with weapons and set them loose with drinks." Business is good! But as Steve Fox has learned ... even a successful business, takes a huge toll on your personal life.

In Episode 13 of the Art of Waging Small Business Warfare podcast, we bring you up to speed with Guerrillapreneur News, news about the sharing, gig and circular loop economies that is expected to grow to $335B by 2025. First, we discuss the Ford/Lyft partnership around self-driving cars. Juniper Research released the Sharing Economy: Opportunities, Impacts & Disrupter 2017-2022 report that forecasts that the number of ride sharing drivers will increase from an estimated 4.3 million in 2017, to 8.6 million by 2022. Given this forecast, it makes sense for Ford to seek a partner that can help them convert their manufacturing business into a "revenue by the ride" services company. Second, WeWork teams up with IBM to manage an entire office for the tech giant. This arrangement marks a shift in WeWork's strategy. Given it's technical infrastructure, I discuss how I believe WeWork will eventually become a full service talent management business. Third, I explain how the Ikea/Task Rabbit merger is a sign that more mainstream companies are going to buy their way into the Sharing Economy. Expect players like McDonalds to purchase delivery companies like Deliveroo. Fourth, I discuss some of the headwinds that might slow the Sharing Economy. Uber lost its license to operate in London because the the Transport for London (TFL) was concerned that Uber was not carrying out appropriate background checks on drivers or reporting serious criminal offenses when they occur with their drivers. Given this action, I speculate about the future of background checks and how ride-sharing services will operate in the future. Fifth, First Data launches a new instant "Disburse-to-Debit Card" service which enables instant payments for gig workers. This innovative solution will eventually disrupt traditional banking relationships. Sixth, Airbnb is facing a headwind in Akron, Ohio where the City Council prohibited a man in an upscale neighborhood from placing his house on the home-sharing platform. The homeowner has never had an issue with any of his guests, but his neighbors successfully argued that the activity could adversely impact their property values. Seventh, two new camping startups are taking on Airbnb. Tentrr and Hipcamp have platforms that help individuals locate and book campsites that they setup for the landowners. Eighth, I give you an update on the Chinese startup, E-Umbrella. The umbrella sharing service has lost all 300,000 of their umbrellas. Customers used their smartphones to obtain the umbrellas, but their failed to return them. I provide a few ideas on how to save the business. Finally, I ask the question, "What will you own in the future as the Sharing Economy are bigger part of the US GDP?" The answer might surprise you. The feature song for this episode is "The Great Future" featuring Steve Fox by Ari Hotep. Today on the Cannabis Industry Voice podcast, NCIA’s Deputy Director Taylor West teams up with Executive Director Aaron Smith to talk with Steve Fox, Counsel at Vicente-Sederberg & Director at VS Strategies.Fox’s background in the cannabis reform movement started in 2002, when he joined Marijuana Policy Project to help with its federal lobbying efforts. In 2005, Fox started SAFER, an organization that was critical in laying the groundwork for the campaign that eventually became Amendment 64 in Colorado, which legalized cannabis for adult use. Fox also helped co-found the National Cannabis Industry Association in 2010 with just 30 original members, which has since grown to over 1200+ members.

As this episode goes up, tomorrow is election day. We figured there’s no better person to sum up what’s about to happen regarding cannabis ballot initiatives than THE Steve Fox. We begin with a little personal history from way back in episode 34 and then dive in to Steve’s take on how this year is different than 2012. The interview was recorded October 17th- it preceded Sheldon Adelson’s investment in Arizona and Nevada- so we discuss the timing of the investment coming less than a month before election day. We wonder aloud about the effectiveness of this late investment. Steve gives us his take on how it’s gonna go and why and how he uses the word marijuana vs. cannabis…and just what’s on the docket for him moving into 2017.
Steve Fox joins us to discuss what’s happening with various ballot initiatives across the country. Steve is an important mind and voice in cannabis highlighted by his work in CO. As we make our way to Nov. 2016 we discuss Arkansas, Ohio and Missouri along with California, Arizona, Nevada and Massachusetts and others.
Mason Tvert is a very familiar name to anyone who’s been following the cannabis legalization movement. Through the Marijuana Policy Project, he has gone to bat for the cause on innumerable TV shows, media outlets, making him very much the face of cannabis legalization, and he was instrumental in spreading the message of SAFER and Amendment 64 with his fellow ground-breakers such as Steve Fox and Brian Vicente. Some have dubbed him the “Don Draper of Pot,” and it’s not hyperbole to say that without his efforts, the cannabis movement would not have achieved the progress it has today. He gives us a behind the scenes look at the work he and the Marijuana Policy Project have been doing for the past decade, as well as a sense of what drove him to this cause in the first place. Enjoy!
There is no over-stating of the impact Brian Vicente has had on legal cannabis. As the co-director of the campaign to get Amendment 64 passed (with Mason Tvert) and co-author of the Amendment 64 legislation (with Steve Fox), he was beyond instrumental in opening up the marketplace in Colorado that has sent a ripple-effect across the nation. Vicente recounts his experience working to get this legislation passed, from working with politicians, to what their opposition looked like, to the finer points of campaign strategy. And of course he’s continuing the fight with his work at Vicente Sederberg LLC.
It’s no surprise why Steve Fox is one of the biggest names in cannabis. Boston born and bred, he has been on the front lines of cannabis legalization across the nation since the early days the movement started to gain momentum. After his start working for the Bill Clinton Presidential campaign and getting a law degree from Boston College, he has played in a part in numerous marijuana legalization initiatives, largely through his continued involvement with Marijuana Policy Project. Now with a published book under his belt, and after helping found the NCIA, he is helping cannabis business owners and legislators through his consultancy work at Vicente Sederberg and his efforts for the Council on Responsible Cannabis Regulation. Enjoy!
