In this episode, we welcome Katy Faust to the show. She is a Children's Rights Advocate and the Founder and President of “Them Before Us”, a global movement defending children's right to their mother and father. She is also the author of several books including “Them Before Us: Why We Need a Global Children's Rights Movement”. In this interview, we discuss what made her start an anonymous blog, how being outed by a gay blogger led to her public advocacy for children's rights, why all children deserve a mother and a father, the difference between natural rights and legal rights, the impact fatherlessness is having on society at large, why gay adoption and surrogacy is wrong, the moral problems with IVF, why divorce should be avoided at all costs, and much more. Timmerie sits down with Katy Faust, the fierce, truth-telling founder of Them Before Us, to talk about something that should be obvious but somehow isn’t anymore: why kids need their mom and their dad. The Truth Your 4-Year-Old Already Gets Timmerie kicks things off with a conversation she had with her 4-year-old daughter, who declared (with all the sass and certainty only a preschooler can muster): t’s not true. They’re lying. Kids need a mommy and a daddy.” Out of the mouths of babes. In a world where everything is questioned (including whether moms and dads are interchangeable), this little girl sees reality clearly... and so does Katy Faust. The Cultural Crisis: When Kids Are the Casualties Katy explains how our culture has flipped the script. Instead of asking what children need, we now ask what adults want and then use kids to fulfill it. She explains why this is a major problem: Kids Have a Right to Their Mom and Dad Not just “a” mom or “a” dad... their biological parents. They’re the ones wired to love and protect that child in a uniquely fierce, sacrificial way. Adoption, Katy says (as an adoptive mom herself), is a loving response to tragedy, not a model for how we should design families from the start. Biological Identity = Personal Identity Children deeply need to know: "Whose am I?" When kids are cut off from their origins: via IVF, surrogacy, anonymous sperm donors, it fractures their sense of self. Gender Balance Isn't Optional. It’s Essential. Men father. Women mother. They do it differently. That’s a gift, not a glitch. Two dads, two moms, or three poly-partners can't replicate the complementarity of a mom and a dad. And when we pretend otherwise, kids pay the price... often through confusion, identity struggles, or even increased risk of abuse. Where the Battle’s Fiercest Katy doesn’t mince words. The two biggest cultural flashpoints where kids are denied a mom and dad: -Gay marriage made moms and dads legally optional. -Reproductive technologies intentionally separate kids from their biological parents in the name of adult “choice.” Real love puts kids first. Love = Sacrifice As Catholics, we believe children are a gift, not a right. And that means saying a loving no to practices that intentionally deprive them of their parents, even if it’s uncomfortable or unpopular. Want more? Check out Katy's book, "Them Before Us". It’s a total eye-opener, and it's a call to put children’s rights before adult desires. Kids need a mom and dad. And guess what? Even your preschooler knows it.

She is the author of Them Before Us: Why We Need a Global Children's Rights Movement and co-author of Raising Conservative Kids in a Woke City. The discussion also touches on the Cinderella effect, highlighting the dangers of unrelated adults in children's lives, and the societal narratives that often overlook the emotional needs of children in favor of adult satisfaction. Katy Faust discusses the irreplaceable role of mothers in child development, emphasizing the need for a mother's love and genetic connection. The dialogue explores modern parenting norms, the importance of marriage for child stability, and the justice owed to children in family structures. Now, more than ever, Christians must rise to champion the rights and well-being of future generations. In this episode of the Them Before Us podcast, we sit down with Phil Kerpen, one of our authors in Pro-Child Politics, to unpack the hidden cost of national debt—a burden that overwhelmingly falls on the next generation. Phil breaks down how government overspending and skyrocketing debt undermine children's future, creating an economy where they inherit financial instability, fewer opportunities, and a weakened nation. This conversation was recorded before the election, and while we're hopeful for positive policy changes with the Trump Administration, the reality is that national debt remains a critical issue no matter when you're tuning in. In today's episode, I spoke with Katy Faust, founder and president of Them Before Us, a global movement defending children's right to their mother and father. She's also the author of three books: "Them Before Us," "Raising Conservative Kids in a Woke City," and "Pro-Child Politics."I began by sharing my personal perspective as a stepparent, acknowledging that while my own family structure isn't ideal from the perspective of children's rights, it's important that we can discuss what's best for children without adults becoming defensive. I expressed how Katy's work resonates with me despite sometimes being difficult to hear, as it challenges us to put children's needs before adult desires. We explored Katy's concept of natural rights, which she explained through three key criteria: they must exist pre-government, nobody has to provide them, and they're distributed equally. She made a compelling case for how conservative values address the root causes of issues that liberals care about, demonstrating how family breakdown underlies many social problems like teen homelessness, incarceration rates, and suicide.A significant portion of our conversation focused on Katy's approach to raising children with strong values in challenging environments. She outlined three developmental phases - grammar, logic, and rhetoric - and explained how parents should adjust their approach during each phase. The grammar phase (elementary school) focuses on exposing children to truth and beauty while filtering out harmful content. The logic phase (middle school) involves purposefully introducing and discussing societal distortions. The rhetoric phase (high school) emphasizes emotional connection over teaching. We discussed practical strategies for parents who may have missed earlier opportunities to lay foundational worldview groundwork with their children. Katy stressed the importance of maximizing emotional connection through physical proximity and becoming knowledgeable about issues their children care about, rather than trying to force ideological discussions. The conversation concluded with insights about how parents can handle their fears about raising children with conservative values in progressive environments, and the importance of what Katy calls the "slow worldview handoff" - a four-step process of teaching children that moves from "I do, you watch" to "you do, I watch.”Katy Faust is Founder and President of Them Before Us, a global movement defending children's right to their mother and father, and author of the book by the same name. The Bible is clear that children are a blessing from the Lord. Does how we conceive them matter to God and is there something morally wrong with reproductive technologies? Katie Breckenridge writes on the ethics of reproductive technologies and abortion for Salvo Magazine and Them Before Us, and she is on the show to share how Christians ought to think about and have these conversations with others. This episode is not meant to offend anyone who has conceived a child through reproductive technologies or adopted a child. The goal is to get us thinking about what God, the giver of life, says about how we ought to value human life and what that means for the Church. Get your 2025 Madalynn Faith Planner! This week on the Family Beacon, Moses interviews Katy Faust, the founder and president of Them Before Us, an organization that advocates putting the needs of children first. That aligns with Minnesota Family Council's mission to ensure that families thrive according to God's design. Katy talks about how we can put children first in every political debate and how that is the only way to safeguard their future and ours.
In a world where children are too often cast as props in adult narratives, this episode unveils the urgent need to place their rights and well-being at the heart of every cultural, economic, and political decision. From the erosion of masculinity and femininity to the silent crisis of family breakdown, Katy Faust joins John to explore how modern ideologies have stolen stability and identity from the youngest among us. Challenging the myths of individualism, materialism, and convenience, Faust exposes their devastating toll on the next generation. This is a rallying cry for all who hope for a society built on sacrifice, justice, and the unyielding protection of the most vulnerable: our children. Katy Faust is founder of Them Before Us, a child rights advocacy group. She publishes and speaks widely on why marriage and family are matters of justice for children. She is co-author with Stacy Manning of Them Before Us and How to Raise Conservative Kids in a Woke City. Her most recent edited book is Pro-Child Politics.
Is it really true that no area of culture, politics or economics where we prioritize what is best for children? What are some of the biggest cultural lies about masculinity and femininity that impact children? What are some of the main cultural misconceptions about the family that harm children? And how does green energy subsidization negatively impact children? We'll answer these questions and much more with our guest Katy Faust, founder of the children's advocacy group, Them Before Us, around a new book she's edited called, Pro-Child Politics: Why Every Cultural, Economic and National Issue is a Matter of Justice for Children. Katy Faust is Founder and President of Them Before Us, a global movement defending children's right to their mother and father. She publishes, speaks and testifies widely on why marriage and family are matters of justice for children. ==========Think Biblically: Conversations on Faith and Culture is a podcast from Talbot School of Theology at Biola University, which offers degrees both online and on campus in Southern California. Kids are not running for public office, enacting laws, litigating policy, or even voting, and yet children often bear the weightiest consequences for the bad policies adults implement. “I get angry when kids are victimized because adults refuse to do the right thing,” says Katy Faust, the founder and president of the pro-children advocacy organization Them Before Us. “It's an injustice at the individual level and at the national level.” If protecting the well-being of children were the first priority of adults in public policy-related decisions, all of society would benefit, Faust contends. Sadly, adults have repeatedly chosen to place their own gratification in marriage, family formation, economic policies, border politics, and so on, ahead of the interests of kids. “Adult-centric policy,” Faust says, is policy that gratifies “adults in the immediate, but then kids have to pay the price.” Take, for example, the issue of marriage. For decades now, phrases like “kids are resilient,” and “children just need love” have been used to justify adult decisions to divorce, cohabit with a partner, or marry a same-sex partner. In reality, these nice phrases are nothing more than permission slips for adult desires to override the interests of children, she says. “Unfortunately, when you see that transformation away from a child-centric understanding of marriage toward an adult-centric understanding of marriage, children are victimized,” she says. In vitro fertilization has recently taken center stage as a major issue in the 2024 presidential election with both Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump declaring their fervent support for the practice. Yet neither candidate acknowledges that thousands of embryos that were created through IVF, and that are fully capable of life, will be put into a freezer and “often don't come out,” Faust says. Faust, the author of a number of books—including her latest, “Pro-Child Politics: Why Every Cultural, Economic, and National Issue Is a Matter of Justice for Children”—joins “Problematic Women” to discuss the ways political agendas consistently harm children in the name of adult gratification.
Welcome to episode 105 of the Restoration Home Podcast. What a conversation we have for you today. We had the honour of hosting Katy Faust of the "Them Before Us" movement. She comes on with heart-hitting facts about the cost of divorce, the crisis in a divorce generation, and the irreplaceable role of fathers. Today, 50% of divorces are over low-level conflicts that build, and the long-term cost of a self-serving "happiness' decision is our children's physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Katy and Jennifer offer advice on better communicating with our husbands, the point of fathers, and the importance of putting our children first in every decision. This great conversation is made possible by the Peaceful Press! With Winter and Winter Holidays around the corner, check out the Peaceful Press resources and blogs for good literature, engaging ways to celebrate, and the Peaceful Press four-week Autumn Guide. Autumn Guide, Christmas Guide Volume 1 and Volume 2 In this episode– Fathers and mothers each bring unique childrearing traits to the table; one is not better than the other, and neither is replaceable. Children must come before adults in our policies, beliefs, and choices. Love your children by respecting their father and choosing the narrative you spin about him carefully. It is children who bear the lifetime cost of a divorce, and step-parents rarely have your child's best interest at heart. Earlier this year, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that embryos conceived through IVF are considered children. That ruling set off a firestorm across America that led to the Alabama legislature rushing through a bill protecting the technology. Since then, Kamala Harris has erroneously claimed that President Donald Trump would ban IVF, all the while GOP Senators seek to protect the practice. Do modern reproductive technologies align with God's divine design? Are children commodities to be cut and pasted into any/every adult relationship? Is Donald Trump's position on In Vitro Fertilization pro-life? And what about IVG: In Vitro Gametogenesis where scientists would take body cells and turn them into sperm or eggs? God's creation mandate is clear: "Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth." One of the primary, God-given roles of governing authorities is to protect its weakest citizens. This especially means a government must structure a society where vulnerable children can thrive. Does your government truly prioritize the needs of children? It's time to bring back the Biblical model of authority, where the strong humbly serve the weak. Join us for the amazing opportunity to hear from Katy Faust and Josh Wood from Them Before Us, as they share about their new book, Pro-Child Politics: Why Every Cultural, Economic, and National Issue Is a Matter of Justice for Children. On this episode of the THINQ Podcast, Katy Faust, the Founder and President of Them Before Us, shares a unique perspective on third-party reproduction methods such as sperm donation, egg donation, IVF, and surrogacy. She refers to these methods as “Big Fertility” and argues that they often prioritize the desires of adults over the best interests of children. Katy highlights the psychological and emotional challenges faced by children who are not raised by their biological parents. Listen to Katy as she discusses the potential exploitation and unfairness involved in these methods, and explains how they frequently benefit wealthier individuals at the expense of financially vulnerable women. A key theme on the podcast this year is justice for the pre-born. We are exploring the issue from a variety of different angles. This week, our friend Katy Faust (from Them Before Us), is coming back on the show to discuss recent developments in the public conversations about IVF and surrogacy. We are going to consider these technologies in light of the Christian worldview.
Today, we discuss the evil practices of surrogacy and egg- and sperm-selling, as highlighted by a recent video of a same-sex male couple who adopted a newborn baby. How has the practice of surrogacy and tearing children away from their mothers become so commonplace in America? What are the impacts of motherless or fatherless homes? And what does this mean for Christians in the culture war?
