This week- a tour through Craig's Vinegar Syndrome collection brings ruin. When Madeline, who lost her ability to speak due to trauma, is picked up, on her way to therapy, by Tony, a human trafficker who enjoys writing taunting letters to his victim's families, she is soon forced into a life of addiction and sexual assault. Fortunately, she is given every Monday off to attend classes in revenge. A seminal, in both uses of the word, film in the rape-revenge genre: Thriller- A Cruel Picture.16-year old Candy is abducted on her way home from school. The kidnapper's demand is simple, her stepfather just leaves a bag of diamonds from the store he manages in a trash can and the girl will be released. Unfortunately, stepdad has too much to gain from Candy dying in the very near future and is more than willing to make sure it happens. A grimy 70s thriller that has only more recently received its cult status: The Candy Snatchers.Don't say the name Madman Marz in these woods or he will respond. On the last night of camp, a playful night around the campfire turns into a bloody struggle for survival. Will the campers live to be picked up by their parents? Will the councilors be able to have their final hot tub canoodle without having to hose out the blood? Will that song ever leave my head? Madman.A group from an all-girls Catholic college go to catalog the collection of their late benefactor, Tyler Welles. After finding the diary of a young woman who died in the house decades earlier, they decide to hold a seance. Soon supernatural and much more Earthly horrors begin to befall the girls one by one. Will any of them live to see the auction they are working diligently towards? Will their nun chaperone recover from her headache or are their devilish shenanigans keeping her down? Just how hard am I supposed to squint to see the resemblance to that painting? Possibly the tamest release to ever land in Tromaville- Girls School Screamers. All that and Dave needs a nap, Craig considers dentistry, Tyler revels, and Kevin goes to his happy place far far away. Episode 80 finds us back on air after a brief hiatus (and hospital visit!), with plenty of news to share about both the platform and our upcoming releases. We start by addressing the elephant in the room - our transition to GoCardless bank transfers for payments. This change came about because traditional payment processors (boo-hiss Stripe) weren't comfortable with our vintage nudie and erotica content, even though it represents only a small percentage of our library. We delve on our past and present theme months, with January's "Madness Takes Its Toll" exploring psychological and asylum-themed films, while February brings you "Filthy Fiftieth Feb," a look back at provocative cinema from 1975. We were particularly excited to introduce our new team members, Kalle and Tightsbury, who've been revolutionising our social media presence with creative edits and trailers.A major highlight is our announcement of upcoming Blu-ray releases. "Anita: Swedish Nymphet" is getting the deluxe treatment with multiple versions and extensive bonus materials, plus we revealed a partnership with Vinegar Syndrome for US distribution. We're also finally bringing "Thriller: A Cruel Picture" (also known as "They Call Her One Eye") to Scandinavian audiences. We shared our most-watched films of 2024, with "Vintage Erotica Anno 1970s" taking the top spot, followed by "The Swedish Sin 1969-2000." The endless popularity of "Summer with Vanja" continues to mystify us, while "The Intruders" surprisingly topped our "nice list" despite never having received a proper DVD release.Looking ahead, we're expanding our library with several exciting acquisitions. We've secured twelve restored Hungarian films, and we're particularly thrilled about bringing the complete "Lover's Guide" series to our platform - a groundbreaking educational series that made history in the UK. We're also filling some genre gaps with new additions in spaghetti westerns, Euro horror, and American high school comedies from the 1980s.Throughout the episode, we seem to keep returning to "Terror in the Midnight Sun" as our foundational film, being the first we ever released across various formats. We wrap up with an amusing (we think so) segment reading feedback from members who decided to leave Cultpix, showing both the challenges and entertainment value of running a niche streaming service dedicated to cult cinema.Cultpix is more than just a streaming site for classic cult and genre films, as we never tire of saying and we're expanding big time beyond just streaming, with our growing physical media presence and international partnerships setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting 2025 for cult film enthusiasts.
During conversations with serious film collectors, you might hear terms like inter-positive, or first negative, or even OCN, and have no clue to what they actually mean. Don't feel bad because a lot of us are in the same boat. These are some of the many terms used when discussing the preservation and archiving of films, not to mention the amount of work that goes into doing just that. Plus, we're not talking about the latest title coming from the MCU, but ones that were made for pennies a half a century ago, or longer, that got very little distribution, sometimes not even here in the states. But due to the thankless job (that we're hoping to change) of some dedicated cinephiles, they are doing their best to bring those titles back from nearly being a lost film. To help educate us on some of those terms, the processes, and just the sheer craziness of it all, we've asked Vault Manager and Archivist Oscar Becher from Vinegar Syndrome to do just that. While we're not covering specific films for this episode, we're pretty sure you're going to learn a thing or two, maybe be even amazed at hearing some of the processes that go into bringing you that nice and spiffy new Blu-Ray of one of your favorite films. Titles mentioned in this episode: Against the Grain (2023), Blood for Dracula (1974), Deep Inside Annie Sprinkle (1981), Dog Tags (1987), Enter the Clones of Bruce (2023), Flesh for Frankenstein (1973), Frankenstein (1931), Grindhouse (2007), Martyrs (2008), New York Ninja (2021), The Night of the Hunter (1955), No Tears for the Damned aka The Las Vegas Strangler (1968), Piranha (1978), The Playgirls and the Vampire (1960), Putney Swope (1969), The Rare Blue Apes of Cannibal Isle (1975), Singin' in the Rain (1952), Star Wars (1977), Thriller: A Cruel Picture (1973), Voodoo Heartbeat aka The Sex Serum of Dr. Blake (1973)
In the first episode of the new-look DX5, we cover Swedish horror movies Hour of the Wolf, Thriller: A Cruel Picture, Let the Right One In, Koko-di Koko-da and Black Circle. We also help listener Sam out with his Rob Zombie-based confusion, and deliver some of the best Saltburn-related content you're ever likely to hear!
Satan's Slave (1976), Prey (1977), and Terror (1978) There are a lot of directors out there that might not have a huge filmography, or even be that well known to the general population of film fans, even in the horror genre. So there is always room to discover them! In this episode, we take a look at three films by British independent director Norman J. Warren, who didn't make a lot of films, but we feel the ones he did make, make him a worthy subject for us to discuss. Honestly, it might make sense to read a little about him before diving into the films, or at least, do it afterwards but I think he is a good example of knowing what he had to make what he did, for us, makes them a little more impressive. You'll get blood, you'll get nudity, and a lot more than you'd expect in these three very British tales of horror. Films mentioned in this episode: Batman (1989), Bloody New Year (1987), Curse of the Crimson Alter (1968), The Devil Rides Out (1968), Dr. Phibes Rises Again (1972), Dr. Terror's House of Horror (1965), Flesh and Blood Show (1972), The Godsend (1980), Horror Hospital (1973), Horror Planet aka Inseminoid (1981), House by the Cemetery (1981), Night Creatures (1962), Prey (1977), Satan's Slave (1976), Shiver of the Vampire (1971), Suspiria (1977), Thriller: A Cruel Picture (1973), Terror (1978), Tower of Evil (1972), Vampyres (1974)

To find out what you can do about the Supreme Court's unjust decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade, visit https://www.podvoices.help/This week the Bloodhaus ghouls talk about Abel Ferrara's revenge fantasy, Ms .45. From Wikipedia: "Ms .45 (also known as Angel of Vengeance, and mistyped as Ms. 45) is a 1981 American exploitation thriller film directed by Abel Ferrara and starring Zoë Tamerlis.Inspired by films such as Thriller – A Cruel Picture (1973), Death Wish (1974), and Taxi Driver (1976), the film is a rape and revenge story about Thana, a mute woman who becomes a spree killer after she is raped twice in one day when going home from work. It was critically detested on its theatrical release, but is now generally highly regarded among fans of underground[1] and independent film.[2]"But first! Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman and Hammer House of Horrors. They wish all the daddies a Happy Father's Day and Drusilla gives her Western recs before getting into her survey of Child's Play and Chucky properties. They also talk about Flight Attendant and Sharon Stone. During the film, they talk about Abel Ferrara's oeuvre including Driller Killer, The Addiction, Body Snatchers, and Bad Lieutenant. They gush over the talent and beauty of Zoe Tamerlis/Zoe Lund and her heroin addiction. They discuss whether or not the film is feminist and the subgenre of rape/revenge films. CAUTION/TW: Both films being discussed contain depictions of Sexual Assault.Cult Cinema Showdown returns with Abel Ferrera's Ms .45 vs Meir Zarchi's I Spit on Your Grave. These highly controversial movies cover the sexual assault of their respective protagonists and their subsequent revenge against those responsible. I Spit on Your Grave is considered by many to be the "peak" of the rape/revenge subgenre of Exploitation films, becoming a catalyst for the Video Recordings Act, and was branded a "Video Nasty" in the United Kingdom. Ms .45 takes inspiration from films such as Thriller-A Cruel Picture and Taxi Driver, even being called "The female Death Wish" by many who have seen it. Who will win this week's showdown? THIS WEEK: Thriller: A Cruel Picture AKA They Call Her One Eye (1973) and Breaking Point (1975) Swedish director Bo Arne Vibenius may have gotten his start working with Ingmar Bergman, but he made his mark on cinema with the grindhouse classic, Thriller: A Cruel Picture. He's also the only director who has been breathlessly lauded by Quentin Tarantino and had multiple films completely banned in his home country. This week we're unraveling the slow-mo cruelty of Thriller and trying to wrap our heads around his darkly comedic XXX followup, Breaking Point.
Kitty Lash joins Django Nudo and the Smut Peddler in the studio once again. We kick off with the 800th film posted to Cultpix and the release of Thriller - A Cruel Picture on BluRay, with some Deluxe Limited Edition copies still available form our webshop. Kroger Babb called himself 'America's Fearless Showman', and will always be known for the exploitation classic Mom and Dad (1945) that he whipped up controversy for, self distributed and made it the third biggest BO hit of the 1940s. He deployed every trick in the book, while inventing several new ones himself, to get maximum publicity for his films and pull in the punters. A selection of his most famous/notorious films are now on Cultpix: Child Bride (1938) - An expose of the practice of older men marrying young girls in the Ozarks. Shirley Mills was just 12 when she filmed the controversial skinny dip scene. The films was meant to draw attention to the problem of child marriages, but Kroger Babb maximised the shock value, bypassing the Hays code by claiming it was 'educational'. She Should'a Said No! (1948) - Robert Mitchum and Lila Leeds were bust for drugs at a Hollywood party, but while his career recovered, this became her only lead role and an example of the dangers of the Devil's Weed. Blends Film Noir and exploitation. One Too Many 1950 - Female alcoholism is tackled in this drama that Kroger spiced up with several music numbers. "Is There One in Your House?" the tagline asked. The story of an alcoholic woman trying to hide her booze dependance. Her secret love of liquor destroyed Helen Mason's concert pianist career and family. Why Men Leave (1951) - Housewife who thinks film exec hubby is cheating on her hires Hollywood make-up expert to glam up. Kroger sold $10 make-up kits in the cinemas showing this film. Halfway to Hell (1954) - “The Picture the Communists Are Trying to Stop!” Kroger himself provided the inflamatory opening statement himself form his desk in this red-under-the-bed anti-Communist documentary. It actually makes the point well that there wasn't much distinguishing Stalin and Hitler. Karamoja (1955) - "They wear only the wind and live on blood and beer," was the tagline for this documentary about tribes in Uganda. Lots of tribal boobies. Kipling's Women (1961) - Supposedly "A Picturization of Rudyard Kipling's Immortal Poem---The Ladies." This was one of the first 'nudies' to get widespread distribution in US. Schlock distribution maestro Kroger Babb "four-walled" it, by renting the cinemas for a flat fee and taking all of the box office collections. There's a Spotify playlist of course.
In this episode, we discuss THRILLER: A CRUEL PICTURE (1973; dir. Bo Arne Vibenius).
For week 3 of our Six Degrees of Kill Bill series, we're headed to Sweden to discuss an exploitation classic that Quentin Tarantino called "the roughest revenge film ever made!" Released in the U.S. as THEY CALL HER ONE EYE, Bo. A. Vibenius's THRILLER — A CRUEL PICTURE and its star Christina Lindberg laid the inspiration for Daryl Hannah's character in KILL BILL. In this episode of the podcast, we'll discuss the long, long history of Swedish exploitation films, going all the way back to the beginning of the film industry itself, through the films of Igmar Bergman (!) and into the 1970s, the golden age of exploitation cinema. We're joined on this discussion by our good friend DJ Wilson, still the only guy we know with a Christina Lindberg tattoo! We'd also like to give a huge thanks to writer Daniel Ekeroth's incredible book Swedish Sensasionsfilms, which served as an invaluable guide to the history of Swedish exploitation films. For the fourth and final week of our Black Christmas series, we're joined by writer and friend of the show DJ Wilson to discuss the film that finally put Shane Black in the director's chair, KISS KISS BANG BANG! After the failure of THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, Black was essentially blacklisted from Hollywood, unable to get a job and went into self-isolation. When he came back, nearly a decade later, he was determined that this time, he'd be the one calling the shots, making sure that his story made it to the screen exactly as he'd envisioned it. This is the story of how that eventually happened, how Black's old friend Joel Silver helped him out, and how Black's film helped to resurrect the career of Robert Downey Jr (directly leading to his role in a little superhero movie you may have heard of). Unsuprisingly this episode comes with a warning not to listen if easily offended, as Greg Sahadachny (The Debatable Podcast / All The Pieces Matter) returns for this sleazy double feature. First up is the Nazisploitation "SS Girls" as Bruno Mattei essentially gives us a more fun version of "Salon Kitty" while also somehow working in a Nazi pope! We also look at the cult favourite "Thriller: A Cruel Picture" aka "They Call Her On Eye" a truly bonkers rape revenge movie which gained popularity after a snippit was featured in the end credits of Quentin Tarantino's "Death Proof". All this plus we discuss Censorship, The documentary films of Sean Dunne and how Bruno Mattei created the mockbuster plus so much more!

The Video Vampires duo returns with special guest Creepy Carrie as they dive into a grindhouse revenge classic if there ever was one: They Call Her On Eye a.k.a. Thriller: A Cruel Picture!
For the first Paleo-Cinema of 2018 I look at the 1962 exploitation sleazefest that is Satan In High Heels starring Meg Myles and Grayson Hall, then we go to 1973 Sweden for the compulsively watchable but confronting revenge movie Thriller- A Cruel Picture a.k.a. They Call Her One Eye. Plus, there's feedback Support the podcast at https://patreon.com/paleocinema

The Exorcist with Synapse Films’ Don May Jr. For our latest ep, Jinx welcomes Don May Jr. to the show. A producer who owns and operates Synapse Films (the Blu-ray and DVD label responsible for releasing such titles as Thriller - A Cruel Picture, Vampyros Lesbos, Demons and Demons 2, Popcorn, Tenebrae, Phenomena, and the upcoming 40th Anniversary release of Suspiria), Mr. May has chosen to discuss William Friedkin’s 1973 film adaptation of William Peter Blatty’s The Exorcist. An undisputed horror classic, The Exorcist is actually the first film to make a return appearance on Scream Addicts (it was previously chosen by filmmaker Tom McLoughlin - listen here. During their discussion, Mr. May and Jinx touch on the first times they viewed the film, the power the film still holds, and their feelings on the film’s follow-ups. Along the way, they weigh the theatrical cut against “The Version You’ve Never Seen”, why The Exorcist is a bucket list release project for Mr. May and the part of the film that never should’ve received the Terminator 2 “morph” treatment. It’s a wonderful and lengthy conversation with an excellent guest, and it’s one we hope you enjoy! Visit Synapse Films here. Make certain to scream at us on Twitter! @ScreamAddicts @Jinx1981
Exploitation month continues on Shock Waves, as hosts Rob Galluzzo, Ryan Turek, Rebekah McKendry and Elric Kane are joined by special guest BJ Colangelo! But first, the latest horrors! Fresh from his trip to New York City, Elric reports back on HERE ALONE, Mario Bava's PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES, THE UNTAMED & the HBO anthology series ROOM 104. Bekah checked out THE WRAITH, PROM NIGHT 2 and THE WORST WITCH. Ryan tells us about Arrow Video's recent release MADHOUSE. Rob watched Code Red's new Blu-Ray of ONE DARK NIGHT, John Carpenter's GHOSTS OF MARS and Scream Factory's DEMENTED. Then we talk about the launch of BJ's blog "DAY OF THE WOMAN" and it opens up the discussion to the controversial sub-genre of "rape/revenge" movies. I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE is the most notorious and infamous of the bunch. But what about the films that came before it? Or in it's wake? LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT, MS. 45, THRILLER: A CRUEL PICTURE, DEATH WISH 2, SAVAGE STREETS, AMERICAN MARY. At what point do these films go too far making them exploitation? And what is it about these certain titles that we find entertaining, or in some cases therapeutic? We delve into this difficult topic full on! Kick back, listen and join the conversation!
