Replacing the existing Rear Wheel Drive variant, the Tesla Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive is built to offer maximum range at an accessible price. The single motor, combined with an energy-dense battery pack, standard heat-pump and low resistance tyres maximise efficiency and sets a new benchmark for cost per mile for electric SUVs. With a standard electricity tariff 50c per kWh an owner charging at home driving 10,000 km per year would spend €800 on charging, compared to €1,400 on an equivalent petrol vehicle and even more savings with an overnight EV tariff*. With the new 600 km WLTPrange for Model Y, a single charge will sustain more than a week of commutes. Making the World's Best-Selling Car Even More Accessible The introduction of this new variant is the result of our relentless efforts to bring costs down through economies of scale and innovative engineering. It also supports Tesla's mission to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy and is designed to uphold strong residual values for the long-term buyer and support affordable monthly costs for hire purchases and PCP finance options. Giving Customers More Options to Choose From Made in Tesla's Berlin-Brandenburg Gigafactory, the Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive includes everything that propelled Model Y as the world's best-selling car in 2023. It comes with the highest level of premium materials, convenience, safety, and connected features included as standard. Drivers can remotely pre-heat or cool their vehicle via the Tesla app, enjoy the comfort of a premium cabin plus studio quality audio system paired with streaming apps. Once the cabin temperature is set and favourite playlist is playing, the built-in Trip Planner will automatically show where to stop charging and for how long to reach the destination quickly, in total peace of mind. In-market test drives commence now for Model Y Long-Range Rear Wheel Drive and deliveries will follow in the next few days. Assuming an average of 10,000 kilometres and spends approximately €1,400 on petrol per year. In comparison, the cost of electricity to power Model Y over the same distance is approximately 2 times lower. Over the five year average length of car ownership, that's up to €3,000 in petrol savings. Assuming a fuel economy of 7.6 l/100 km for a comparable petrol powered car. We've also assumed the national average of €0.50 per kilowatt-hour for residential electricity (assumed for 100% charging) and €1.81 per litre for petrol over the next five years. Tesla efficiency values are based on Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive. Comparison petrol vehicles are selected based on vehicle class, seating capacity and standard features. We use the WLTP estimated range standard to compare efficiency data between our cars and a comparable petrol alternative using each vehicle's combined city/motorway MPG and MPGe ratings. Actual range may vary based on factors such as speed, weather conditions and elevation change. Model Y consumption rating = 14.9 kWh/100km Comparison car consumption rating = 7.6 l/100 km See more stories here.

The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation has introduced a new online trip planning tool that incorporates travel information for both traditional bus service and flexible mobility options. Using the Virginia Trip Planner, users can plan trips with bus, rail, bikeshare, carpools, vanpools, and on foot anywhere around the Commonwealth. Traditional trip planners and applications typically display only transportation services that follow a set route and schedule, which are less prevalent in rural areas or are inaccessible to people with mobility challenges. The Trip Planner, available on DRPT's ConnectingVA website, includes both fixed-route transit routes and specialized transit services...Article LinkSupport the show

Show #1434 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of EV information. It's Wednesday 13th April, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. REPORT: MADE-IN-TEXAS TESLA MODEL Y STARTS AT $59,990 - According to Drive Tesla Canada, new reports - based on Reddit posts and internal email sent to Tesla employees a week ago - reveal that Tesla will offer the first MIT cars at a price of $59,990 (USD), which would be some $3,000 less than the current price of the Model Y Long Range AWD. As we understand, it was also the price for those employees. - It's good news that the price is lower, but let's not forget that the new MIT version has also a slightly lower EPA range - 279 miles (449 km) vs 330 miles (531 km), assuming the same 19" wheels. Also, the acceleration is a bit slower - 0-60 mph in 5.0 seconds instead of 4.8 seconds. - Some of the numbers of the new Model Y were reportedly noted in the Tesla's website code In the comments: “Just looking at a couple factors, 85% of the range for 95% of the price doesn't seem like a good deal.” “The ID.4 has 280 miles of range for almost 1/2 the price.” with tax credit. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/579535/report-mit-tesla-modely-59990-price/ TESLA WILL RELEASE A CHEAPER MODEL Y WITH BIGGER BATTERIES SOON - This Model Y also includes a few features not seen on any previous trim level, such as a magnetic center armrest and a parcel shelf. Tesla reportedly delivered a handful of these EVs to workers at its "Giga Rodeo" event in Texas last week. - The 4680 cells are twice as large as Tesla's existing units, but they have five times the capacity. That lets Tesla either extend the range of its vehicles or use fewer batteries to maintain the same range, potentially shrinking costs. In the new Model Y version, they're implemented in a structural battery pack that should reduce complexity and weight, further improving efficiency. Original Source : https://www.engadget.com/tesla-model-y-standard-range-awd-new-battery-152038143.html TESLA CHANGES OFF-PEAK HOURS AT SUPERCHARGERS IN CALIFORNIA TO ENCOURAGE OWNERS TO CHARGE LATER - Tesla has announced that it is changing the timeframe of its off-peak hours at Superchargers in California to encourage owners to charge their cars later. - It was only a few years ago that Tesla owners didn't have to pay anything to stop and charge at a Supercharger station. In the early days of Tesla and electric vehicles, it made sense in order to create a seamless experience and encourage ease of travel as many were still on the fence about electric vehicles. - This week, Tesla announced an important change to its off-peak hours in California, its biggest market: - Starting April 12, 2022, off-peak hours will change at California Supercharger locations. Charge for less at select Superchargers before 11 AM and after 9 PM. Tap the Supercharger map pin in your in-car touchscreen to view specific rates and eligible sites. Navigate to your destination using Trip Planner and your battery will automatically precondition before you arrive. - Rates are different depending on the station, but they can often charge around $0.48 per kWh during peak hours versus $0.24 during off-peak hours. Tesla requires a $5,000 credit card payment for the Roadster due on the spot and a $45,000 wire transfer ten days after the initial order. The $5,000 credit card payment is fully refundable. Tesla does not state whether the $45,000 wire transfer is refundable, but reservations will not be final until the wire transfer is officially received. - The next-generation Tesla Roadster debuted in November 2017 Original Source : https://www.teslarati.com/2023-tesla-roadster-reservations-reopen/ FIRST DRIVE REVIEW: 2023 TOYOTA BZ4X EV IS SET AS THE SIDESHOW BUT UPSTAGES HYBRID HEADLINERS - it surprised us to hear that Toyota only plans to deliver about 7,000 BZ4Xs through the end of 2022 in the U.S., with an emphasis on California ZEV states at first but no guarantee the pace will accelerate. While Ford looks at 200,000 Mach-Es for 2023 split between the U.S. and Europe, and VW eyes 100,000 ID.4s in the U.S. in the next year or two? Record-scratch moment. - Toyota has owned California in hybrid sales, and it's hard to imagine it's not looking at the 60,394 Tesla Model Y SUVs registered in the Golden State alone in 2021 and seeing that it could catch up. - To put it in context a bit, that's a slower U.S. sales pace than the plug-in hybrid RAV4 Prime. - Both of the plug-ins are eligible for the full $7,500 EV tax credit amount for just a few more months. And for the time being, they both upstage those models without charge ports. Sorry, Toyota. Original Source : https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1135571_first-drive-review-2023-toyota-bz4x-ev-is-positioned-as-the-sideshow-but-upstages-hybrid-headliners 2023 TOYOTA BZ4X FIRST DRIVE REVIEW | TOYOTA'S FIRST REAL EV - Last summer, a whopping 40% of would-be electric vehicle buyers said they had heard of Toyota's EV. Of that, 21% said they considered buying it. Funny thing was, the 2023 Toyota bZ4X wouldn't be revealed for months, and we're just reviewing it now. In other words, all those people were keen on a car that didn't exist … which is more than those who had heard of the Chevy Bolt and Nissan Leaf, cars that actually existed for years. - there is very little revolutionary about Toyota's first from-scratch EV. You won't see any bladder-busting range numbers, wait-saving charge times or neck-snapping 0-60 sprints. This sucker is aimed straight at the average new car buyer rather than EV enthusiasts. You know, like the people who thought it was already on sale. - Well, the front-wheel-drive bX4Z actually has a different battery pack than the all-wheel-drive twins. Their capacities are similar at 71.4 kWh for FWD and 72.8 kWh for AWD, but they're in fact different packs produced by different suppliers. Why? The answer is demand, as in Toyota couldn't get enough of a single battery to supply all 13,000 or so Toyabaru EVs it intends to build for 2023. Original Source : https://www.autoblog.com/2022/04/12/2023-toyota-bz4x-first-drive/ SHORT SUPPLY MEANS A RIVIAN TRUCK NOW COSTS FERRARI MONEY Original Source : https://www.motorbiscuit.com/short-supply-means-a-rivian-truck-now-costs-ferrari-money/ TRUCK COMPANIES' ELECTRIC ENTHUSIASM DOESN'T EXTEND TO POLICY - Some of the world's largest truck engine manufacturers say they're all-in on electric vehicles. So why is their main trade group still lobbying against them? - Volvo said it would try to sell 50 percent of its heavy-duty trucks as EVs by 2030, and the company is trumpeting new models and sales figures. Daimler is touting investments in truck charging infrastructure along the West Coast and a million miles driven in its electric Freightliners. Navistar is making the case that its electric school buses can help slash greenhouse gases. - Yet the trade group they all belong to, the Truck and Engine Manufacturers Association, is arguing that federal and state rules intended to boost numbers of zero-emission trucks are too onerous. - EMA's president, Jed Mandel, said the demand isn't necessarily there. “Their customers haven't bought them yet, and there's no guarantee they will,” he said of Volvo and Daimler's plans. Mandel also argued that EPA's proposal creates more regulatory uncertainty because the agency had already settled on greenhouse gas standards through model year 2027 under the Obama administration, which he said are already “very challenging.” - Only about 6,000 of the roughly 4.5 million medium- and heavy-duty trucks on U.S. roads last year were battery-powered, according to ACT Research, a firm that does analysis and forecasting for the commercial vehicle industry. Most of them were buses, which typically make shorter trips than trucks. CATL EXTENDS BATTERY SUPPLY DEAL WITH TESLA - Sourcing locally has helped Tesla cut the prices of its Shanghai-made Model 3 sedans, which have been trimmed down by more than 25% since they were first delivered to the public in January 2020. More than 90% of the parts used in Tesla's Shanghai factory are from Chinese suppliers, Tesla China told a local media last month. Tesla also uses LG Chem batteries in its Shanghai plant, where it also is making Model Y sport-utility vehicles. It isn't clear whether CATL's batteries are used in Model Ys. Fifty-two drivers and their crew had spent close to a month preparing for the annual time-attack hill climb near Colorado Springs. - Spectators roam past fences for a better view, and even the blades of the low-flying camera helicopter mostly drowned out the siren required for electric vehicles competing here. - The true king of Pikes Peak Mountain was back this year: Romain Dumas, the crazy Frenchman who set an unbeaten record of seven minutes, 57 seconds in Volkswagen's all-electric ID. R Pikes Peak racer in 2018. - Randy Pobst was back too. After sending a Tesla Model 3 flying into a wall at Bottomless Pit, he came back for more. This time winning the Exhibition division with his new Model S Plaid from Unplugged Performance, but still finishing 10 seconds behind a 1996 BMW M3 Original Source : https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a36862669/pikes-peak-hill-climb-results-winners/ ALL-ELECTRIC MUSTANG COBRA JET 1400 ROASTS THE QUARTER-MILE - Bob Tasca III got behind the wheel of the all-electric Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 at NHRA Nationals yesterday and set a new world record. The veteran ran the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 for a quarter mile in 8.128 seconds at 171.97 mph, crushing the 8.27 seconds at 168 mph recorded in September of last year. - The name of Ford's all-electric Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 may be somewhat misleading, since it's throwing 1500+ hp to the rear wheels instead of 1400. Ford says that's the equivalent to three 2021 Mustang GT V8 powerplants combined - According to Ford Performance, this car was built in a collaboration with Cascadia Motion for the inverter and motors and Watson Engineering for the chassis support and development as well as the roll cage. This is Ford's first factory fully electric dragster prototype, launched in April of last year. - It's nice to watch a race without having to bring ear protection, but does it feel as exciting? Eschewing the Transporter skin used by the test mules, the Microbus for the EV era has been caught wearing the production bodywork - the prototype hides its final look underneath clever camo. It would appear that VW is going for a Renault van look with the disguise applied onto the ID Buzz's front fascia, featuring stickers on the headlights to conceal the actual clusters. - The fully covered rear side glass suggests we are dealing with the cargo version of the ID Buzz, unless it's simply body-colored camo to hide the interior. - Even with all of this makeup, it's fairly obvious the production model will be quite similar to the showcar unveiled four and a half years ago in Detroit. According to a BMW dealer bulletin, the final production for the electric i3 hatchback is scheduled for July 2021. Over the last 12 months, the i3 inventory for the U.S. was at its lowest point and customers often had difficulties securing a production slot. The latest dealer info suggests that there are only around 180 production slots remaining. - BMW is now heavily invested in the launch of the BMW i4 and iX next-generation electric cars and there is very little incentive to promote or market the heavily discounted and incentivized i3. - When it goes out of production – likely in 2022 for the rest of the markets – the i3 will go down as the first and maybe last BMW built on a full carbon fiber frame. When BMW launched the i3 and i8 in 2013, the two projects were not only considered the most advanced within BMW, but also in the automotive world. The first electric BMW and also the first hybrid sportscar from Munich made use of BMW's knowledge in carbon fiber construction, but at a much larger scale. Under the new statewide EV scheme, NSW will provide 25,000 eligible buyers with a $3000 rebate and will also ditch stamp duty on electric cars valued up to $68,750. The abolition of stamp duty will also apply to EVs valued at up to $78,000. This means buyers in Australia's most populous state could conceivably pay as little as $39,670 drive-away for MG's electric SUV, which normally retails for $43,990 drive-away. - The EV subsidy and stamp duty abolition is part of the NSW Government's recently announced $490 million Electric Vehicle Strategy and will come into effect from September 1 of 2021. A campervan is the solution. - Meet the solution to all your woes, an electric-powered camper effectively based on LEVC's London taxi. With the current situation we are currently looking at more driveable trips. Where can we go as a family without getting on a plane? Even outside of the pandemic of 2020 driveable trips are worth considering as driving as a family of four is cheaper than flying with a family of four. Carzaam Automotive News Episode 10: VW - OK Honda - Opal Volkswagen accused of breaching responsible lending laws ASIC has commenced civil penalty proceedings against Volkswagen Financial Services Australia for allegedly breaching responsible lending laws just days after VW was hit with the largest penalty ever made for contraventions of Australian Consumer Law. The financial services regulator has alleged that the company failed to undertake “reasonable steps” to inquire about or verify a borrowers’ living expenses. The Volkswagen case continues ASIC’s clampdown on how lenders interrogate a borrower’s living expenses when writing loans and further tightens lending standards in an already tough automotive market. Honda to Launch Personal Assistant, “OK Honda,” at CES 2020 Backed by SoundHound Honda revealed a preview of the advanced voice technology it plans to show off at CES this year. It will feature “OK HONDA” its voice enabled Personal Assistant created in a collaboration with SoundHound, along with new ways to control smartphones from the car. The partnership grew out of SoundHound’s involvement in the Honda Xcelerator program and uses the term “OK Honda” as a wake word to allow the driver to carry out requests including running the car’s entertainment system and environmental controls. SoundHound has been accruing new automotive partners at a steady rate. Most recently, Kia announced that the Seltos line of cars will include a Houndify-based voice assistant and Hyundai has also integrated its technology on the Venue SUV. Ride hailing added to Opal app and Transport NSW Trip Planner Transport for NSW has announced that some taxi and rideshare providers are now included as an option for how people can travel to their destination in the latest iteration of Trip Planner. In addition to existing options -- public transport, walking, and cycling -- people can now view the cost and journey duration of their trips if they choose to travel with Cars on Demand, Ola, or Ingogo. The decision to offer ride-sharing and taxis comes off the back of the state government's Future Transport 2056 strategy where transport service providers were invited to share their data sets and APIs to link with Trip Planner. This represents a great step forward for mobility as a service in Australia with the NSW government showing its leadership and commitment in bringing together various parts of the ecosystem to deliver better transport outcomes. Those of us who live wine country hear it all the time when people visit to go wine tasting, "Where should we start?" The first answer I give is "What do you want to experience?" Well, now the Wine Routes trip planner can provide a great number of options that can tap into your interests. You can enter the kind of varietals you like, the kind of experiences you'd like to have, whether you can bring your kids, your dog and so on. Then you can plan a trip based on the responses and share that trip with others. Another bonus is the ability to create lasting relationships with the wineries. I talk with Co-Founder Adrian Tamblin and Product Manager Ian Scales. As you'll hear, the app and website also includes wine regions across the U.S. Listen in and get ready to explore. Cheers!
Made the annual Festivus road trip this weekend and decided it would be a good test for the trip planning options. The winner: Of the two sites, EVTripping came closer to predicting the needed charge. My old favorite, EVTripPlanner didn't plan enough energy reserve and, on one leg, didn't even recommend enough charge to make the leg! But, my favorite planner is now... the Nav planner in the Tesla. Just put in the destination and charge until the car says go! It's pretty accurate but I find that I lose about 5% immediately after getting back on the road. So, if you want to arrive with 15% let it charge to 20. NewsAnheuser-Busch has ordered 40 Tesla Semis! That brings the total to over 200 orders. Trip Planning Over the years without really thinking about it, we've come up with a method of trip planning we pretty much follow every time. There's a series of questions to ask to help prepare. We created the Trip Planner which is a free download on this site, which steps you through the process, and in this podcast we have some fun while explaining how ans why we use this method. We hope its useful!
A lot of people would like to go on trips, but don't like planning the details like what to see on what day ,what transportation to take etc. Here is a simple solution.
Samir Bitar and I had a very spirited discussion about his role in leading a transformation of the Smithsonian visitor experience. Like many folks who attain a Chief Customer Officer level type role, Samir had been developing a robust visitor experience for just one of the 19 museums on the Smithsonian campus. His success there earned him his role to lead the work across the entire Smithsonian campus. Talk about human duct tape! Samir shared with us the robust engagement approach that he used to meet with the leaders of every museum to build his proposed approach. He used these insights, paired with a simple draft of the Smithsonian visitor journey at the time to convince the most senior board of regents (including multiple senators and the vice president) why the work was necessary and how he would proceed. Then we talked about exactly how Samir worked to build the first journey map for the Smithsonian which has established the blueprint for countless innovations in the visitor experience, as well as many basic experiences that needed to be consistent from one part of the museum to the other. Finally Samir walked us through a groundbreaking trip planning tool which Conde Nast called a game changer, which is the Smithsonian’s “Trip Planner”. Launching in June we will provide you with the URL.
Leave us a voicemail at: (509) 731-3548 Our official website is at: ==> http://www.lawabidingbiker.com PODCAST-Get ready to dig deep into the email bag on this episode bikaholics! We have been so busy covering other topics on the podcast that the emails have been stacking. We cover an array of things that are a directly result of emails we have received. We really appreciate the emails everyone, so keep them coming. You can send us an email or leave us a voicemail anytime! I start out with an announcement reference the fatal biker shooting that occurred on June 26, 2014 around 8:00 PM outside Nippers Bar Grille in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. We covered this in depth on Episode #48, so check it out. After that episode aired I was contacted by a high ranking official of the Iron Order Motorcycle Club (IOMC) and that speaks volumes for the Iron Order Motorcycle Club. The official was appreciative of our fair and balanced coverage of the shooting incident. This high ranking official is very open to an interview right here on the Law Abiding Biker Podcast. However, he wishes to wait until the true facts of the fatal biker shooting are released to the public. The Iron Order MC does not wish to interfere with the Jacksonville Beach Police Department's or the State Attorney's Office ongoing investigation. As a President of a motorcycle club myself, I must say that I would likely make the same decision. It is stated by the IOMC official that they are in fact a "law abiding biker" motorcycle club. Over the years that has certainly been my perception of the IOMC based on my personal contact with members. The Iron Order MC does have a very open website with pictures of members and exactly what they stand for. They are not secretive at all. Of course, that is completely unlike outlaw motorcycle gang websites that contain very little or no information. OMG's obviously have much to hide, so they can't be open like law abiding biker clubs on their websites. I did learn from the official that the Iron Order MC member that was involved in the fatal shooting was never in custody, booked into jail, and is free right now. Also, I may have stated that Nippers is a "bar" in Episode #48 and I was incorrect. Nippers is described as an upscale family restaurant. The patrons and many witnesses present that night were not bikers and were families and children. We must let the legal processes take place and know that the videos, witnesses, and forensic evidence in this case will reveal the truth in time. So, look forward loyal listeners to an upcoming interview with the IOMC Official after the facts are released. We will of course keep you up to date on this situation as it unfolds in the meantime. We will let you know of any information that appears to be valid in nature. Again, I caution you to be very careful about where you get your information on the matter. There are some internet trolls out there reporting on the incident with no actual information, who are obviously very biased. If a source is already judging one side or the other without much information then that should probably be a red flag that they have an agenda. I'm really glad you liked the video. Wow, that sound like a bitch of an axle to get out. You bring up a good point for bikers watching this. Make sure your axle always has plenty of Anti-Seize grease on it. Put some extra on when you put it back on. Thanks for everything and ride safe.* Walter Duryea (also donated) Thanks for the video. I have done my '04 Dyna Super Glide before so I used the video as a refresher when I changed tires on my new (used) '06 Wide Glide, The Bike only has 14, 000 miles on it but the axle was a bear to remove. I soaked it with penetrating oil, used an old nut on the left side and had to pound the living daylights out of it. It was a corroded mess. I have done my own service and was never quite sure I did things right. Now I am. Your video was one if not the best How to video I have seen. Great detail and very good picture. Thanks again Keep up the good work. MY RESPONSE: Thanks so much for the feedback brother!! I'm very glad you liked the video. The only way to check the primary drive oil level is by visual inspection w/ the bike level & a flashlight. I am thinking about installing 3.35" Open Belt Primary Drive Street Style for Harley-Davidson from Demon cycles SKU: Open Primary 58730, made by Ultima. I have posted the link below. You give me the confidence to do it first of all, and it saves me money to boot. Could you answer a few questions I have about changing the oil on my 2011 HD Superglide Custom? 1. What are your thoughts about using Mobile 1 mortor oil? A fellow HD owner says it allows his bike to run ~10 degrees cooler. If Mobile 1 is OK in your estimation, what grade of Mobile 1 would you recommend? 2. In the video I watched, your friend used a torque wrench to tighten the screws on the Derby cover. What brand of torque wrench was that? Any recommendations as to what wrench to buy? Did it use a 1/4" drive? Would you like to have both in-lbs and newton-meter scales on the wrench? Would you prefer a wrench that once it reaches the torque setting and clicks that it no longer can tighten, i.e. it turns freely after that? Or does it matter? MY RESPONSE: Thanks for the contact and feedback brother. o answer your question about lubrications listen to our in depth Law Abiding Biker Podcast Episode #26 on this matter. It will answer all your questions about oils, weights, and Mobile 1. There is also an in depth blog there I wrote. ==> www.LawAbidingBiker.com/26. I use Craftsman tools (Sears), which is the torque wrench you saw. That one is a 3/8 inch drive. I would suggest getting a 3/8 inch drive torque wrench that reads inch pounds (likely will have Newton Meters on it too.) Then get a second larger 1/2 inch drive torque wrench reading in foot pounds for larger projects. Once my wrench reaches the torque setting it clicks and then will turn after that. It seems to work fine for me. I just stop at the click. Hope that helps...
