When it comes to estate planning, there are a lot of half-truths, outdated advice, and persistent myths that can leave your family vulnerable. Join Jeff as he clarifies common misconceptions about wills, probate, powers of attorney, and trusts. Estate planning is far from a one-size-fits-all exercise. Multiple tools are available, and to be most effective, they should be strategically customized to each family's needs. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (00:00) Episode introduction. (03:02) Myth #1 – A last will and testament is good enough. Truth – A will outlines what will happen to our assets that are in our name alone. This leaves a lot of issues unresolved. (04:42) Myth #2 – Avoid probate using joint ownership and beneficiaries. Truth – When money is distributed outright to the joint owner(s) at the time of death, it creates a situation where (1) the money can be spent before creditors and tax collectors get their share, and (2) assets become susceptible to unintended claimants. (10:44) Myth #3 – Revocable trusts should not be used. Truth – They ensure flexibility during life, give the grantor complete control, offer options for disability planning, and provide after-death asset protection. (19:45) Myth #4 – A revocable living trust is all you need. Truth – In some instances, an irrevocable pure grantor trust is a better option. It can offer more robust tax handling, leaves the grantor in control, and provides a step up in basis for the beneficiary. (22:52) Myth #5 – Trusts are one-size-fits-all. Truth – There are many tools available to estate planners; it's important to mix and match to develop a custom plan that is appropriate for each family. (24:25) Myth #6 – A power of attorney (PoA) is good forever and any PoA is good enough. Truth – Most banks want these documents updated at least every two years. Also, to protect assets, a spouse or child must be specifically authorized in the PoA. ABOUT BELLOMO & ASSOCIATES Jeffrey R. “Wisdom is not just about knowledge. Wisdom adds to knowledge with discernment, with understanding, with a moral sense of what's right and wrong.” We live in a time of overflowing and interweaving crises. A global pandemic exacerbates a mental health crisis caused social media technology. The upheaval of American electoral politics caused by an erosion (or breakdown?) of social and relational trust. The rise of nationalism, the proliferation of war, and longing for justice in the realms of gender and race. Underneath it all appears to be a crisis of knowledge and its convergence around skepticism of science, a culture of suspicion, and confusion about basic factual information, let alone right and wrong. We need wisdom. Badly. But in times of crisis and chaos, where are we to turn for wisdom? In this episode Mark Labberton is joined by longtime friend Francis Collins, physician, researcher, and former director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Known for his leadership in mapping the human genome, his public service at the NIH spanned three presidencies and culminated with overseeing the national response to Covid-19 pandemic. The author of many books, including his bestselling The Language of God, Collins's new book is *The Road to Wisdom: On Truth, Science, Faith, and Trust,* a reflection on the crisis of truth, science, faith, and trust, and how the exhausted middle might chart a path toward a better future. About Francis Collins Francis S. Collins, MD, PhD, is the former director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). As the longest serving director of NIH—spanning twelve years and three presidencies—he oversaw the work of the largest supporter of biomedical research in the world, from basic to clinical research. Collins is a physician-geneticist noted for his landmark discoveries of disease genes and his leadership of the international Human Genome Project, which culminated in April 2003 with the completion of a finished sequence of the human DNA instruction book. He served as director of the National Human Genome Research Institute at the NIH from 1993 to 2008. Collins's research laboratory has discovered a number of important genes, including those responsible for cystic fibrosis, neurofibromatosis, Huntington's disease, a familial endocrine cancer syndrome, and most recently, genes for type 2 diabetes, and the gene that causes Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome, a rare condition that causes premature aging. Collins received a BS in chemistry from the University of Virginia, a PhD in physical chemistry from Yale University, and an MD with honours from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to coming to the NIH in 1993, he spent nine years on the faculty of the University of Michigan, where he was a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator. He is an elected member of the Institute of Medicine and the National Academy of Sciences. Collins was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in November 2007 and the National Medal of Science in 2009. Show Notes Get your copy of The Road to Wisdom: On Truth, Science, Faith, and Trust “The crisis behind the crisis. It's the crisis of culture. It's the crisis of mind and heart. It's the crisis of society. It's the crisis of faith.” Collins occupying various roles through this book: professor, advocate, mentor, philosopher, coach, scientist, pathologist, and perhaps most saliently, cultural diagnostician. Being on the road to wisdom Helping those in the exhausted middle, to offer ways to do something to address cultural crises Collins summarizes the arc of the book TRUTH: “There is such a thing as objective truth. But it is not necessarily very popular in many circumstances.” “Facts—*established facts—*are now sometimes called into question because somebody doesn't like the fact.” Jonathan Rauch on the “Constitution of Knowledge” “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free. He doesn't say the counter that lies will imprison you, but you might have to think about that.” Science as a pathway to the truth Anecdotes vs. empirical science “We have to bring faith into this conversation if we're trying to shape a future that it gives you a chance to tap into all the wisdom that's there.” TRUST: “I found in my own experience, some of the information that turned out to be most life-changing came from a source that I never would have considered as part of my reliable circle of buddies, but I needed to hear it.” “Wisdom is not just about knowledge. Wisdom adds to knowledge with discernment, with understanding, with a moral sense of what's right and wrong.” “Our society is in trouble.” Where will the solution come from? No politicians, not media, but only us. Empowering people to be part of the solution “Love is your calling. Anger and fear are not your calling.” “Listen to understand.” Don't distribute information unless you're sure it's true. Build bridges with neighbours and within communities. Braver Angels Website “If you put information in front of people that's well established, they'll make rational decisions. And I assume that's what science is all about.” Collins's experience leading the charge to develop Covid-19 vaccines, and then managing the resistance to vaccines “People of faith in many instances were the most likely to fall into the category of not trusting what science had to say.” The cultural crisis beneath the medical crisis of Covid vaccine skepticism Collins reflects on public health responses to Covid-19 (school closures, mask mandates, etc.) Systemic breakdown caused by fear, anxiety, distrust, and suspicion Collins comments on Anthony Fauci's public service throughout Covid-19 Discrediting and redefining science, subverting faith Postmodernism and the erasure of objectivity and reason in science “Nothing is true except our perspective.” Francis Collins's perspectives on the Christian church Christians' ungrounded fear that this is a war Tim Alberta's book The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory “Seeing through a glass darkly.” (1 Cor 13) A book of hope and whole human experience “There are profound reasons for each of us to engage. This is an argument about not standing aside. It's crucial to see that what we are fighting for is great and glorious, and worth every bit of the effort from each of us. Truth, science, faith, and trust are not just sources of relief from a painful period in our country's life. They represent the grandest achievements and insights of human civilization. They literally hold down the promise of a better life for every person on this planet in material terms, in spiritual terms, and in social and cultural terms. To take up this challenge is therefore not an act one of exhaustion or desperation. But one arising from the hopeful pursuit of the promise of greater flourishing of our entire humandom.” Production Credits Conversing is produced and distributed in partnership with Comment magazine and Fuller Seminary.

This episode came about as a result of a conversation between the Money Queen Alex Unscripted and myself about the economy. While Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman won't be joining us, Little Bird Marketing CEO, Priscilla McKinney, rises to the challenge of being the official SEO MythBuster. People have pulled Priscilla aside on numerous occasions to ask her to confirm or deny SEO rumors and gossip. Enough people were asking. It was time for her to get talking. As always, she pulls back the curtain and starts from square one, eliminating jargon and outlining what all the acronyms actually mean. The reason people have so many legitimate questions is that in this incredibly noisy market of tons of websites, it's a struggle to be seen. How do we get your website to rank high and be optimized for search engines? It all starts with Google thumbs, and with knowing that Google wants to deliver a “wow” experience to their users. Google Thumbs See, we left behind jargon and then created some ourselves. But this is an important acknowledgement that how anyone (your 13 yo son, or your 83 yo mom and even your most ideal client buyer) is using their thumbs on Google to find answers to life's more pressing questions (and where to get the best pizza…) How Google Works Knowing how Google and other search engines really look at your content is absolutely vital to your SEO strategy. This comes down to the trifecta: Experience, Authority, and Trustworthiness. Expertise is Google crawling your website and taking a look at everything that you have to say. You want to talk about your key topic clusters “six ways to Sunday,” as Priscilla says. Authority deals with hyperlinks — other websites linking to your website and your own website linking to itself. Trustworthiness also deals with links, but it's about the links that you share, also called outbound links. Google checks to see if the websites you are linking to are reputable and high-quality. Time to get myth-busting? MYTH: Google only ranks new content. TRUTH: There is a difference between new content and the “freshness” of content. MYTH: Longer content has more value. TRUTH: More does not always equal more. MYTH: Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising helps ranking. TRUTH: False. PPC and SEO and SEM are different and we break them down. MYTH: SEO takes at least 90 days to have an effect. TRUTH: Changes take time for the search engine bots to process, but there is no magic to day 90 of your work. We break down what happens quickly and what can take a long time. SEO strategy is not one-size-fits-all, and there are a lot of nuances to the ever-changing, alive and kicking algorithm. Once you understand the background, 2 John is pretty easy to understand. Most of the debate about 2 John arises in verse 1. This letter was considered practical and important, so it was passed around and shared with all the other believers. In the providence of God, it was intended all along to become part of the Bible. The dominant theme of the letter is truth.--There is an obvious theme introduced in the first few verses, which we can use to outline the book---1 - Truth Is The Source of Life-2 - Truth Is The Rule of Life-3 - Truth Is The Boundary of Love-4 - Truth Is The Boundary of Fellowship-5 - Truth- There's Too Much To Say

Edified: Insights for LDS Women10 Lies We Tell Ourselves, Part 1 26 JULY 2020One way that the adversary gets us to stop our forward progress is to feed us full of lies and half-truths that make us second guess our call, our purpose, our ability, or the value of what we have to offer others. Lie #1: “I am not ____ enough” Truth: There will always be someone who is younger, older, more experienced, more educated, more accomplished, more popular, more intelligent, or more “whatever” you filled in that blank with. The LIE is when we tell ourselves that because others are more ______ than us, there is something wrong with us or lacking in us that makes us inferior as a woman. Affirmation: “I have the seeds of godliness within me. My journey is uniquely mine. God has called me to a work and He qualifies me for the work through the Atoning power of Jesus Christ. My gifts together with God’s grace makes me not only ENOUGH, but the perfect person to accomplish the work I am called to do.”Lie #2: The Lord is too busy to focus on my needs. Others need His attention way more than I do. I’m being selfish if I bother the Lord by asking for more blessings than I’ve already been given. Truth: There are people around us who are facing greater trials and hardships than we are. The LIE is when we tell ourselves the Lord is too busy to focus on our needs or that there is a quota of blessings.Affirmation: “My God is limitless. He wants me to pray for others AND for the desires of my own heart. When I approach my Heavenly Father in prayer, my greatest desire is that I might align my will with His.” Lie #3: I am not in control of my own happiness -- I cannot be happy when there is so much suffering in the world -- I will be happy when _____ happens.Truth: There is a lot of suffering in the world. It’s all around us. Some of it is beyond anything we can bear to imagine. And it breaks our hearts. Another half-truth is the idea that we will be happy when _____ happens.Saying that we’ll be happy when ______ happens, suggests that we can’t be happy if ______ DOESN’T happen. The LIE then is the suggestion that (1) our happiness depends on others’ use of their agency or (2) the assertion that we can’t be happy unless we can control our circumstances. Both of those statements are counterintuitive to the Father’s Plan of Happiness. DO ONE THING InvitationThis week’s invitation is to recognize the voice of your inner critic and come up with an affirmation to replace the lie. Write your affirmation down and practice saying it until it sounds more natural than the lie. This process of substitution might take some time, depending on how long you’ve been buying the “LIE,” but it can make a huge difference in our ability to “press forward with a perfect brightness of hope.” If you have a particular “LIE” you’ve been struggling with, please let me know. You can Direct Message me on IG @melinda.r.morgan or through Facebook @ Edified: Insights for LDS Woman. You can also contact me through email by visiting my website: melindarmorgan.com. I would love to hear from you and to feature your “LIE” in my next episode. Emily Leathers: Emotional Leadership Emily is an executive coach and software engineering manager. She has led teams and advised other managers for years. She’s seen the difference a truly passionate leader and manager can make for their team and the world around them. Like a lot of managers and coaches, she’s had a front row seat to the patterns that cause a lot of leaders to overwork and over stress. She is the author of the guide The 7 Leadership Lies and she’s the host of the Emotional Leadership podcast. She’s also a member of the Coaching for Leaders Academy. In this conversation, we discuss some of the common lies that leaders tend to tell themselves that lead to frustration and impostor syndrome. Then, we explore better ways to frame these beliefs, to lead with more confidence and effectiveness. Key Points Lie #1: I’m supposed to do everything I, my manager, or my team can think of. Truth: A leader’s job is about prioritization - and that means prioritizing how we spend our own time as well. Lie #2: There’s a timeline. Truth: There is no rush. Work gets much easier when we turn off the unneeded sense of emergency. Prioritization is the aim. Lie #3: Emotions don’t belong at work. Truth: Every action we take is driven by an emotion. You are going to experience emotions at work - that or you’ll be staring at a wall all day without a single thought in your mind. Turning them off isn’t an option. Learning to allow your emotions and use them to your advantage is critical for your success as a leader. Lie #4: I’m supposed to have an answer for any problem or question a team member asks. I'm Jean Kristensen, and I help minority- and women-owned businesses connect to opportunities with government agencies and large corporations. I am passionate about this work because I understand the impact that receiving a large contract can have on a small business. My goal is to provide practical advice and resources to MWBEs on how to do business with the government and navigate the corporate supply chain. In this debut episode, I cover what you can expect from my all-new podcast: Truth: There are many opportunities out there for minority- and women-owned businesses, but there are still hurdles to overcome. My focus will be on sharing honest advice with this in mind. Dispelling Myths: One of those hurdles is an abundance of ineffective or outdated advice on how to grow your business. As the world changes and technology opens up new avenues, it's essential to stay current on what can help you now, not what worked 15 years ago. The "Pot of Gold" Issue: When people frequently hear about the potential pot of gold out there but don't know how to reach it, many people feel inept. After all, if there's so much opportunity, why can't everyone make it there? It comes down to finding the right advice, methods, and mentors. Strategies: I will share my procedures for finding opportunities with government agencies and suppliers, in addition to sharing places to find real (and reliable) information and tactics. Guests: I have worked with many subject matter experts that have dramatically changed how I do business. In future episodes, I will be inviting these people to the show to share their expertise in finance, human resources, technology, and more. Please look forward to future shows, and if you have questions, comments, or ideas, you can reach me through my website or social media below. As general rule, documentaries need to be fact checked. Unfortunately most have a biased agenda and the producers will bend the facts or just lie in order to support their beliefs. This is the opposite of science. A good scientist states his/her beliefs and then conducts a rigorous investigation to prove it wrong. The good scientist then publishes the findings whether or not it supports his/her beliefs. This did not happen in "The Game Changers". Here are some quick notes on the lies they use in "The Game Changers": 1. LIE: Gladiators were vegetarians and prized fighters with the best medical care. TRUTH: Gladiators treated like animals or slaves led to slaughter for entertaiment. They were fed a plant based diet similar to what they would feed their animals in order to fatten them up. The fat was intended to protect them from minor cuts and strikes. It was an insult back then to call someone "barley eater". Meat was cherished and considered a privilege. One of the physicians at the time, Aelius Galenus critized the diet and the training of the gladiators. He said it was not proficient. 2. LIE: Carbs are the main energy source and without them you will experience chronic fatigue. TRUTH: Carbs are only the main energy source during intense exercise. Even then the energy is split 50% from carbs and 50% from fat. It is extremely silly to claim carbs are the body's preferred energy source, especially with the Keto Diet being all the rage. More people, now more than ever, know once your body is fat adapted it runs efficiently with fat providing up to 95% of a person's energy. Your body can also convert fat into carbs. This means you do not need to eat carbs. 3. LIE: Meats cause vasoconstriction and endothelial inflammation. TRUTH: There are no peer reviewed studies that state this. In fact, the study they site in the film says in the title "Saturated Fatty Acids do not impair Endothelial Function". The study goes on to say no significant differences were shown between saturated fatty acids and monounsaturated fatty acids. 4. LIE: Humans do not have any specialized biological mechanisms to digest meat. TRUTH: Humans (omnivores) have more in common with carnivores than herbivores. Herbivores have an extremely long intestinal track, and some like cows, have multiple stomachs. In comparison humans have a much shorter intestinal track and one stomach. Herbivores have only flat teeth. Humans have sharp and flat teeth. Herbivores have a high ph level for digesting tough plants. Humans and carnivores both have a low ph level. 5. LIE: The antioxidants we need are found almost entirely in plants. TRUTH: Most antioxidants in plants have very low bio-availability. The most important antioxidant, glutathione, is made by the human body. It is really the only one we need, and is comprised of the amino acids glyciene, glutamine, and cysteine, which come from protein. I will stop there. The film is rife with inaccuracies, horrible anecdotal stories from athletes and celebrities, and lots of blatant lies. Hello ladies, and welcome back to the Slim & Satisfied Podcast! On today's episode, I discuss the 5 PCOS nutrition tips and myths you should ignore. Following up with our topic from last week's episode, I reiterate that while the Internet, social media, and online blogs can offer community and great advice for women with PCOS, they can also perpetuate a lot of misinformation and make it difficult to decide between what's credible and what isn't. So, in today's episode I want to help clarify some common diet misconceptions given to women with PCOS so as to help you not become distracted by unhelpful advice. Instead, I want to help clear away confusion and provide you with the tools for becoming more confident in your eating and health decisions. Here are 5 PCOS Nutrition Tips to Ignore: 1. The Myth: You shouldn't eat fruit/ you should eliminate ALL forms of sugar. The Truth: Unprocessed fruit does have health benefits and naturally occurring fructose won't significantly raise your blood sugar. 2. The Myth: Eat all the fat that you want. The Truth: This advice will make your insulin-resistance worse. Instead, pay attention to the type of fat you're consuming, focusing on adding mono- and poly-unsaturated fats to your diet. 3. The Myth: Fill in the gaps of your diet with supplements. The Truth: Supplements should not be used to fill in the holes of a diet but rather be used to optimize what are already healthy behaviors. 4. The Myth: Gluten is inflammatory and should be avoided with PCOS. The Truth: There is no research that proves gluten is inflammatory, and eliminating gluten from your diet can be restrictive and cut out foods that could have potential health benefits. 5. The Myth: Eating smaller meals more frequently is beneficial for weight-loss for women with PCOS. The Truth: This technique does not work for most people because it's a practice that constantly gives the body more food to digest than it needs. It also forces you to eat according to the clock rather than according to when you are hungry, which is not a healthy habit to create. I elaborate on each of these points further within the podcast, offering alternative healthy behaviors in lieu of these common pieces of advice. Ultimately though, I want to encourage you to become educated about the health decisions you're making so that you are prepared to make choices about your health that best work for you and are sustainable for your lifestyle. What You'll Learn in This Podcast Episode: The differences between processed and unprocessed fruit and the best ways to incorporate fruit into your diet What fats/foods to eliminate or cut back on in your diet and which to add more of Why eating smaller meals can be detrimental to your health plan and long-term healthy eating goals Advice for making sure you are not being too restrictive in your diet or over-complicating your food decisions Helpful Links: Questions, or interested in becoming a client? You And David Goggins Have This In Common "YOU'VE GOT EVERYTHING IT TAKES... BUT ARE YOU WILLING TO DO EVERYTHING IT TAKES?" That is such a simple yet powerful thought. It's 100% true. You have everything you need to do everything you desire. Truth: There are people with LESS than you doing MORE than you right now. Less money, less education, less skills, etc... But the one difference is they are willing to DO everything it takes. Listen I get it. The doing is the hard part. It's much easier to sit around and pontificate about all the things you're GOING to do. But the act of actually doing, well that's no fun. Ok, I'm not here to bust your chops. I’m here to help you. So, let's do this, what if I gave you three simple actions you could start right now that would get you doing instead of thinking? Would you be down for that?? AWESOME! 1. Believe that you have everything you need because it's true. And the TRUTH is if you don't believe this first thing the rest of what I have to say doesn't matter. 2. Take action, not on everything, because that would be overwhelming. I want you to write down three actions you WILL take today that will move you closer to your goals. Now, these aren't maybes or shoulds. These are MUST ACTIONS. 3. Accountability - I want you to tell one person exactly what you are going to do today and ask them to hold you accountable. Ask them to text you throughout the day and check in on your MUST list. Once you've completed your list, send them a text with a picture of your list with all three items checked off or a photo of you smiling from ear to ear because you are proud of yourself. Repeat these three steps every day. I still do this every single day!!!! Website: Thrive Forever Fit Social Media: Facebook Instagram Grab a copy of my book: The Overweight Mind

Blacks Don't Read. This is very deep, and unfortunately. Is it true? SOMEONE ONCE SAID: THEY ARE STILL OUR SLAVES We can continue to reap profits from the Blacks without the effort of physical slavery. Look at the current methods of containment that they use on themselves: IGNORANCE, GREED, and SELFISHNESS. Their IGNORANCE is the primary weapon of containment. A great man once said, “The best way to hide something from Black people is to put it in a book.” We live now in the Information Age. They have gained the opportunity to read any book on any subject through the efforts of their fight for freedom, yet they refuse to read. TRUTH: There are numerous books readily available at Borders, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon.com, not to mention their own Black Bookstores that provide solid blueprints to reach economic equality (which should have been their fight all along), but few read consistently, if at all. Let's discuss this topic TONIGHT at 7p EST on Media Fury Radio.
Today’s question has the potential to impact both the day-to-day moments in your marriage, and the long-term trajectory of your marriage. The Tension: We ask ourselves “Is this marriage working for me?” Many of us bring this question into marriage, and we never change it. But this has huge ramifications on our marriage and can be very damaging. We call this the Me Mindset, and when we’re asking this question it’s because the answer is “no”. And it can take us down some scary paths! This is a dangerous question to be asking because the mindset can have a huge impact. So is there a better question to be asking? Truth: There’s a better question. Try asking, “What am I doing to make this work?” Think about someone in your life who operates this way with you – someone who is constantly asking, “What can I do to help”? We’re so drawn to those people! If you want to be that attractive to your spouse, you put them ahead of you. You strive to be the more selfless one in the relationship. And great things can happen! CJ: An example is when I go to visit Teri’s family; it can be overwhelming to me as an introvert. Though I love them, I’m always tempted to get in the car on the way home and complain about my lack of alone time. Instead I could be focusing on how great a time Teri had. Your one simple thing for this week: Ask yourself the question “What am I doing to make this marriage work when it comes to ________” Whether it’s finances, the in-laws, chores around the house… what is the thing that you’re doing to make it work in that area? Just try it out and see what happens! Sometimes it can feel like only big moves matter, but it’s really as simple as making an intentional decision to change your mindset about a situation. Afton: For me, it’s going into family dinners with a better posture – not going into it with dread, thinking it’s going to be terrible but having a better mindset about it. Ted: In our marriage, my wife is very introverted but she’s great on stage. When we first got married, we were performing in skits at youth and marriage events. When she would get offstage, she would become very introverted again. I used to spend time ‘encouraging’ her to be more extroverted after the event, instead of embracing her personality. Things improved when I started looking at that aspect of her personality through this lens. CJ: Maybe you’re like me and you’re struggling to come up with what to put in this blank - and that’s ok! See this as a filter for the hard moments. Keep it in your back pocket for when you catch yourself asking “is this marriage working for me?” Thanks for joining us for the Married People Podcast! We hope today’s episode helped you realize that marriage is a little easier than you may think. We hope you’ll subscribe to the podcast on iTunes and leave a review – they help us make the podcast better. If you want more resources, check out Your Best Us and our blog at MarriedPeople.org. Finally - join us next week when we ask the question “What’s the difference between expectations and desires?”
Today's Guest: Ryan Barton-Grimley, indie film director, The Truth There are essentially nine speaking parts in Ryan Barton-Grimley’s new indie film, The Truth. And two of those parts are in one scene--a couple of actors playing cops who are virtually superfluous to the story--so let’s say seven. Ryan Barton-Grimley, director of The Truth Order The Truth starring John Heard, available by clicking on the DVD cover above! RYAN BARTON-GRIMLEY podcast excerpt: "John Heard -- talk about a saint! We had somebody else, a very notorious actor, notoriously troublesome, cast in that role. He dropped out two days before filming. John Heard came onto our three-week shoot a week in. He saved the day. He's amazing." This is the kind of movie I think Hollywood could learn from in this age of tight budgets and stories that wind out of control. Barton-Grimley tells a taut, suspenseful tale that really leaves the viewer in fear of what revelation—or truth—is coming next. And even when we know, we still don’t know. I heard about The Truth, which stars John Heard, Daniel Baldwin, Erin Cardillo and Brendan Sexton III, because illegal copies of it are flooding the Internet. It’s obviously been the subject of a lot of buzz and curiosity. Cool, huh? Team Faith pit pastor, Chuck Lemaster, discusses "How can we know for certain that what we believe is actually The Truth?" There are thousands of religions in the world and each one claims to be the only legitimate one...so how can you know for sure? This message was delivered at the Big Buck GNCC race April 13, 2014.
Student Question: In my experience, I’ve seen that one can interpret a situation in many different ways, and sometimes it seems that I can interpret a situation in an infinite number of ways. Is that freedom, or is that still part of the ego? “No, freedom is when you don’t bother interpreting it anymore,” remarks Shunyamurti the spiritual director of the Sat Yoga Institute in Costa Rica. “All discourses are false. All interpretations are wrong because every concept, if you look at it deep enough, it flows into the other. Good and evil are the same. Every philosopher who has reached Ultimate Reality recognizes that: form is emptiness. Good is bad even. . . . All of these distinctions we make are part of duality. And so any discourse that you create is always leaving out a shadow that is its opposite that is actually embedded in it; it is its own essence.” “So the truth is that there is no . . . Truth?” “There is no Truth—but don’t take that as a truth!” Recorded on the evening of Thursday, May 13, 2010.
