Ever pour your heart into a campaign, emails sent, donors hyped, and an event planned, only to hit a wall? Donations stall, goals aren't met, and suddenly, it feels like you failed. This episode is your permission slip to pause, reflect, and bounce back stronger. In part two of the mindset series, I'm sharing a concept I coach clients on weekly: The 7-Minute Rule. It's the strategy that helps nonprofit leaders recover from fundraising flops without spiraling into shame or burnout. Because the real issue isn't that you missed the mark—it's that no one taught you how to process the disappointment and evaluate what's next. “It's never too late, and you're never too old to do anything.” –Fiona LambertWe don't have to become invisible as we age. We don't have to gain weight, lose fitness, slow down or stall out. What if you could be in the best shape of your life at 60?Fiona Lambert, author of Invincible Not Invisible, set herself that goal just nine weeks before turning 60. I love her energy and the belief that it's not too late and you aren't too old. In this episode, you'll also hear:How to tackle an overwhelming taskWhy you need a daily word count goalThe best way to make sure you reach your writing goalsOne simple action to take right now to help yourself focus on progress, not perfectionIs this you? You've been wanting to write a book for years; you have a great idea; you're passionate about the subject. But for some reason, you just can't seem to get started. Or maybe you have gotten started, but you can't seem to make any real progress. You just keep putting it off, telling yourself that you will start tomorrow, next week, or next month. But the day you're supposed to get started just never seems to come. If this describes you, you're in the right place. Because throughout this Do It Now series, you're learning practical strategies to help you get started and finish that book. One of those strategies is to focus on progress, not perfection. So here are a few ways to do just that.1. Break Your Goal Down into Small Steps When you think about writing a book, it can seem like a very overwhelming goal. But if you break that process down into smaller steps, it becomes much more manageable.Instead of thinking about writing an entire book, focus on writing one chapter at a time. Or instead of focusing on writing an entire chapter, you could focus on writing one page. Or, to take it a step further, instead of focusing on writing a page, focus on writing one paragraph at a time. You can keep going like this as long as you need to. The point is that when you break the big goal or task down into smaller steps, it doesn't seem so daunting anymore. 2. Set a Daily Word Count GoalOnce you've broken your task down into smaller steps, try setting an attainable goal for writing a certain number of words each day. It doesn't matter how small the number is; the important thing is that you're challenging yourself to make progress every day. This means setting a goal — be it 500, 300, 200, or even 100 words — and then meeting that word count goal every day, even if some days are harder than others. And remember: progress, not perfection. That means giving yourself permission to make mistakes and not striving for perfection in every sentence or paragraph. It also means remembering that your first draft doesn't have to be perfect — it just has to exist. You can always go back and revise it later. 3. Make It a HabitThe best way to make sure you reach your goal is to set aside some time each day to work on it. For many people, it's ideal to do this first thing in the morning, before things get crazy, people start vying for your attention, and your day gets off and running. Whenever you do it, set aside some time and treat it like it's an appointment that can't be moved or canceled. During that time, turn off your phone, close all the other tabs on your computer so you're not distracted, and then just start writing. The Key Is Progress, Not PerfectionRemember: the key to getting your book actually finished is to focus on progress, not perfection. As long as you're making some sort of progress each day, you're moving in the right direction. And before you know it, you will have finished your book. So what are you waiting for? It's time to get started! What action are you willing to take right now based on what we've just discussed? With the new year right around the corner, we tend to reflect on the things we accomplished and what we can do to improve on the quality of our lives, both personally and professionally in the next year. So setting goals is especially popular this time of year, and often, as life keeps going, those goals fall by the wayside. It has been proven that the small, consistent habits are what will actually make the biggest difference in your life. So in this episode I wanted to share my thoughts on goal setting with our EL students and what better time to do that than at the start of a year.I have been guilty in the past of making new years resolutions with no strong why attatched, no quantitative measure of success, and were ultimately unsuccessful. After doing some research I have found that it is actually the small, consistent habits you build day after day that make the biggest changes in your life. So, when is the best time to set goal with your students? There are 4 good times I recommend: At the beginning of the school year, at the beginning of the new year in January, at the start of a new trimester or semester, and after receiving your ACCESS or other standardized test scores. How does it work? As teachers, we are good at breaking things down into manageable chunks. The goal needs to be somewhat tangible. Ask questions to help students get more specific with the goal they have set. Asking questions like “what steps can you take?” or “how will you know if you're successful?” can help students develop their ideas into SMART goals. SMART Goals are specific, measurable, actionable, relevant, and timely. I created an ESL goal setting packet that you can use with EL students in goal setting and reflecting on their progress toward their goal. This activity has 4 parts that you will hear described in the episode. Part 1: My word of the year. Part 2: My vision board. Part 3: My weekly goal and reflection. Part 4: My celebrations. What you will hear about in this episodeThe anatomy of a goalThe 4 times during the school year when its good to set goalsA 4 part activity you can use to set goals with your students.ResourcesAs mentioned in the episode, I am linking some useful resources! The ESL Teaching Roadmap – membership community for middle and high school ESL/ELL teachers. In this special kid's POV edition, Asher and I talk about having ADHD and goal setting, a topic near and dear to my heart, but also an issue we hear from parents about a lot. Asher is someone who always seems to have a lot of projects he's working on and he sets often ambitious goals centered around those projects. Yet because of the way Ash is wired, he can often get distracted or derailed, which results in him being frustrated with himself.I know a thing or two about goal setting — it's actually the topic of a book I wrote for teen girls in 2015 called Doable, and so I am committed to using what I know about goals to help Asher learn how to successfully set and reach his own goals while also developing his planning, organizational, and time management skills. Things We Talk About In This Episode:Recognising the power of what's possible when people come together with a common goalThe value of creating your own, distraction-free destination for group learning and supportEmpowering creators to place higher value on the important business, community and content they are making - rather than being driven solely by the pursuit of money and influenceThe importance of community, particularly when we are forging new paths (or making things up as we go along). Gina says, “the single best place to make things up as you go along is in a small, trusted community of people who are there on the same journey”The important difference between “community” as opposed to audience, following or marketplaceThe great value of having diversity within a likeminded group is in the different and interesting ways that community members apply the common conceptsThe “fluff paradox” (the theory that content that is easy to judge - such as kittens or outrage - rises to the surface)How content and course creators can now market themselves less on formal qualifications or years of experience, and more on how they make ideas and skills accessible to people who can't yet do the thing we're teachingThat networking is increasingly moving towards safe, trusted, creator-led online communities, which in turn is transforming in-person conferences and events less into “networking meet-ups” and more into reunions, with the capacity for deeper connectionsHow I use Mighty Networks to create community and support the members of my own 15 Minute Magic programPricing your services and wares, and in particular understanding that people value and pay attention to the things they pay for (a difficult concept to remember when our own self-doubt tells us to keep our prices low or give things away for free)Gina's top tips for building and facilitating a new community: 1. Fear of failure is the biggest challenge most people face, something we all need to recognise and overcome2. Go for quality rather than quantity in numbers of members3. Don't get bogged down creating content: focus on creating results for your community4. 3 Strategies For Athletes Who Are Too Hard On Themselves

The Elite Competitor - A Podcast for Moms & Coaches

Play Episode Play 38 sec Highlight Listen Later Nov 5, 2021 16:02

I have yet to meet a female athlete that doesn't struggle with some aspect of perfectionism. It's pretty common, in fact. Athletes want to do well. They want to constantly be improving. They want to hit new levels of performance. This is all GREAT and necessary. However, there's a fine line between healthy striving and the unrealistic expectations that come with perfectionism. The Difference Between Perfectionism and “High Standards”Oftentimes, athletes like to mask their perfectionism behind having “high standards” or goals for themselves. They think that if they aren't relentlessly hard on themselves and aiming for perfection, they won't perform well or improve. When, in fact, the opposite happens. The need to be perfect and achieve unrealistic standards actually leaves athletes feeling less confident in their abilities when they fall short. We'll break it all down in this episode...How do we help athletes make this shift from perfectionism to healthy striving?! Three steps...1. Identify and discard strict or meaningless expectationsThis is where I want athletes to physically write out and list all the expectations they have for themselves or that they feel from others (coaches, parents, teammates, crowd, etc) and follow the process that I outline in this episode.2. Replace expectations with a process-oriented goalThe expectations that are left should be ones that are realistic and meaningful to the athlete. From here, we are going to focus on changing them to process-oriented goals. Do this for every expectation that is listed. 3. Remove judgement from performanceFinally, remove judgement from performance. This is key! We want to CRITIQUE, not CRITICIZE performance. Athletes need to stick to the facts when evaluating how they performed, rather than judgements.Bonus Tip!We become, move towards, and create what we think about most. This can work both FOR and AGAINST our athletes. If our athletes are constantly looking to the past and beating themselves up for what they did wrong and never feeling good enough, then that's the future they will create for themselves! On the other hand, if our athletes have a vision of who they want to become, visualize it daily, and align their actions to that vision, they will be well on their way to reaching potential and handling setbacks as a way to propel them forward. One fun way we tap into this is through creating a vision board! We host a Bonus Vision Board Workshop with each new group in the Elite Competitor Program and the athletes love getting creative and seeing their goals and visions come to life in a way they can see daily. Helpful Links: Visit our podcast website for more on this episodeDownload the free resources we've created for you Join us inside our FREE Facebook Group - The Elite Competitor Society - for weekly Q&A, periodic trainings and challenges, and the support of an amazing community of moms, coaches, and the men who partner with us!The BEST way to help us spread the word and get this information into the hands of millions of parents, coaches, and female athletes is by leaving a rating and review on A**If you're looking for a way to help your athlete daughter come back from mistakes, stop beating herself up and start playing to her potential... without being pushy or worrying about what to say... join our FREE training: www.trainhergame.com**

#13: Former Brooklyn Nets Coach and the current Head Coach of St. Stephens St. Agnes, Mike Jones, shares the principles that have enabled him to achieve excellence in his life as a professional basketball player, coach, and both husband and father. Even more significant is that he shares how he is determined to give back through his foundation, the MJ Foundation.Mike Jones was the first member of his family to attend college. He also had to make a tough decision that ultimately changed the trajectory of his life as he got into high school. He was given the opportunity to attend a different high school, but it was not easy to leave his friends. Growing up he learned the value of hard work from watching his parents and applied that to everything he did. As he excelled in sports and the classroom he earned the honors of the Oklahoma High School Player of the Year, as well as a scholarship opportunity to play college basketball. As a player, under Coach Billy Tubbs, he was on some of the most successful teams in TCU basketball history. While at TCU he recorded 51 points & 45 points in back-to-back games, as well as having a handful of 40+ point games. In 1997 he earned the opportunity to represent the USA in the World Games. After being disappointed from going undrafted, he talks about continuing to be disciplined and consistent to achieve his goal of playing professional basketball. He also discusses some of the lessons he has learned from his time playing and coaching. Some key points:- Put in the work- Separation is in the preparation- You have to believe in yourself and have confidence- Stay consistent and disciplined- Don't compare yourself to others, just focus on being your best- The best teams have accountability- You can't do the bare minimum and expect results- Pinpoint what you want to do, lock in, stay laser-focused until you achieve that goalThe mission of the Mike Jones Foundation is to provide minority students from public schools in the DMV City the opportunity to attend and graduate from a college preparatory school in the Mike Jones foundation's coalition of schools. For more about the Mike Jones Foundation check out:mjonesfoundation.org

Intentional Optimists - Unconventional Leaders

Episode summary introduction:  A practice of regular reflection is part of the natural growth cycle, and provides the feedback you need in order to reach your goals. Today we will look at the type of information the process of reflection provides, and what to do with it.Intentional Optimism - Your Vehicle for Personal Growth:Optimistic = The hull, the vehicle that gets you from island A to island B.Present = The centerboard - keeps you upright, focused, centered.Energetic = The sail - captures & harnesses the wind, propelling you forward.Courageous = The rigging - holds everything together in proper tension, resilience. Wise = The rudder - keeps you on track, heading in the right direction.Intentional = Setting everything up to properly capture the wind.Topics discussed in this episode:  PURPOSE OF REFLECTIONRemember what we said we were going to do or become - because we forget.Prevents distraction by circumstances or opportunities that take us away from our goal - because we get distracted.Regular, time stamped mile markers that provide proof of progress or point to the need for a trajectory adjustment - because we get discouraged. THE GROWTH CYCLESet the Goal/make a PlanAct on that planReflect/Review your progress (Planned or not)Adjust or Achieve (what's next?)Start over RESULTS OF REFLECTIONYou're way off target - you may be going in the wrong directionGive up - not really - just go back to the beginningReset (turn around) - adjust your direction or actionsYou're headed in the right direction but your timeline is offAdjust the timelineFigure out if what you are doing is serving your goalOn TargetReaching, meeting or achieving your goalThe mindset needed to move on to your next goal - start the cycle overGet involved!Newsletter:  Optimistic LivingMini Course: “Uncovering Your Core Values” Collaborative Membership Community: Launch From The BeachEmail me at andrea@theintentionaloptimist.comJoin me over in the Intentional Optimists Facebook Group  ●  Follow on Instagram @theintentionaloptimist  ●  Linked In Andrea JohnsonGrab your FREE:Andrea's Favorite Planning & Productivity tools“Ultimate DISC communication Cheat Sheet”Need some tools?Try New Things - 30 Day ChallNoom: A Mindful Way to Eat Learn how to intentionally challenge your mindset in order to take control of your health.Skillshare: Spark your creativity. This episode is pretty short but it will help to read the show notes to remind yourself of the “10 things” after you listen, which you can find at prosperouscoach.com/114.One of my VIP clients was researching other coaches in her niche last week. She came away from that shocked and concerned. So many of the sites felt like ghost towns. A lack of current content or pages out of date seemed to signify the sites were abandoned.Besides this one, three distinct fears crop up fast from researching other coach’s websites:Is the coaching field too saturated?Should I be doing things this way instead?Should I even try to make it in coaching?First, I assure you the coaching field is not too saturated, especially if you do things to stand out in the crowd, which you’ll hear me reinforce a lot.And should you even try? Only you can answer that. You know your mind and heart. If this truly important to you, you’ll go after it with singular focus and true grit.It may be hard to accept this. A lot of coaches do not make it — mostly because they lack determination. Building and sustaining a business is no small feat. So many coaches will spend all the time and money to learn coaching skills then do all the tasks to launch but let the whole thing go before they even cross the threshold. Or, they give it 6 months then give up.Looking back I’m amazed that I stayed the course considering my many mistakes and some slow years. I’m stubborn that way. Stick-to-it-iveness pays off.So yeah, there’s tremendous attrition. And that’s true for all startups, not just coaching startups.I encourage YOU to think of this attrition dispassionately. What really matters is YOUR courage of conviction. Don’t give up. Every problem has a solution. Find your way and enjoy the journey because few things in life will teach you so many meaningful life changing things as growing your business. What most coaches ultimately want is to become a coach in high demand. That golden place where clients find YOU and they are ready to enroll. It’s something you absolutely can achieve if you give it a chance.I ’ve narrowed it down to 10 things all coaches need to become a coach in high demand:Specialize on an Audience with a Specific Big Problem and GoalThe viability of your audience and niche is the cornerstone of your stability as a coach. If you stand out in the crowd and become well known by a unique and viable audience, you set yourself up for success. The more broad your audience or light your niche, the less likely you’ll gain traction.Implement a Strong Content StrategyStanding out matters here too. If your blogs, episodes, videos and social posts seem to be just like every other coach’s, those efforts won’t pay off. Content is still King and Queen!Grow Unstoppable DeterminationThis is about character. Will you apply discipline? Will you believe in yourself and this calling even when there’s no proof you’ll make it?Go here to find the other 8 things to help you become a coach in high demand.

Hey there, welcome back to the podcast. I don’t know about you but I am loving this month so far. Mike and I got back from Charleston the Saturday after Thanksgiving and have been soaking up the holiday vibes in Chicago, including the chilly weather ever since. It has been such a treat to wake up in the morning when it is dark out and sit by the Christmas tree to read and journal. And because it is December that means January is right around the corner. I love January, not because it is my birthday month (shout out to all the Capricorns) but because it symbolizes the start of something new. It can be so fun to set new goals and start fresh, which I’ll be diving into on the podcast next month, it is equally important to reflect as well as set new goals. Part of my ritual every year is to reflect on the 5 most important things I have learned from the previous year. They are typically themes or lessons that have been inspired by specific experiences. I know it can be tempting to want to rush into setting new goals, trust me I’ve been there. But it is important to take in the lessons learned in order to become aware of them so that you don’t repeat them.  Lesson #1: Letting Go of Needing to Plan so Far in AdvanceWhen I first started She Did It Her Way, and in the first two years of it being a business, I was so focused on planning everything for the entire year. At the beginning of this year I realized I was doing it from a place of wanting control. As I’ve grown as a business owner what I’ve found, especially this year, is that it is extremely helpful is to set goals and vision for the year but really focus from a detail standpoint on the quarter that is ahead, rather than trying to get into the details for the entire year. Know your metrics for the year and then focus on how you can achieve those for the quarter. I’m going to be diving into this next month on the podcast. The downside of trying to plan everything in detail from the start of the year is…Things shift and change. If you spend so much time planning the whole year right at the start of it, things will most likely shift and change, and all that time you spent planning, has now become and inefficient use of your time. No room for magic. If we decide that “This is how it must be,” there may be no room for magic to come through. When planning for the next year it is important to know the following:Your ONE goal for the year broken down into quarter (typically financial)The person who you need to be and operate from in order to achieve that one goalThe daily habits and behaviors that will impact that goalBy knowing your quarterly goal, you then can plan accordingly. Often times what happens when trying to plan the entire year is overwhelm sets in. Bringing the timeline closer makes it easier for you to know what you need to do and what goals to achieve. Lesson #2: Saying “No” is a Good ThingThis year I really exercised my right to use the word, “No,” or “No thank you,” rather. And if you’re new to the podcast for so much of my life I was a “Yes” person because I never wanted to miss out, let people down, I wanted to be all the things to all people and everywhere. Learning to practice saying the word, “No,” is a skill. At the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020 I found myself over leveraged and trying to balance all the commitments that I had said ‘yes’ to. I realized that it was difficult for me to focus on the things that matter because I was saying YES to everything. Every time we say YES to one thing, we’re indirectly saying NO to another thing. It is important to know ahead of time what we want to say YES to so we’re prepared to say NO to the other thing. There will always be opportunities to say YES to something but it is important to say YES to the things that matter to you. Not just in business but also in personal life. I honored my desire to not overcommit or fill my schedule with all the things. I turned down 90% of invites to participate in a digital online summits. I turned down podcast interviews. I turned down affiliate opportunities. I turned down sponsorship opportunities. This year it became more clear the difference between what is stuff and noise vs what has a direct impact on the business and moving the needle forward.Saying “No” is also about protecting your time and energy. Keep the main thing, the main thing.  Lesson #3: Tune Out to Tune InContinuing with saying, “No” it also allows you space to tune out so you can tune in. There is so much noise from podcasts, content, videos, social media, courses that we can consume. When we over consume we run the risk of being overwhelmed and that is when our brain spins our because it isn’t sure what to think and then we start operating form a place of reaction rather than an intentional action. You no longer think for yourself because all the inputs are from other people.Finding time this year to disconnect and create a quieter space was super helpful to get clear on what mattered most to me in my business and personal life, rather than thinking I needed to be doing something because someone else was doing said thing. I put limits on how much screen time I was allotting for myself (including Instagram). I condensed work days from 8 hours to 6 hours on average. This constraint helped me stay focused and made it so that I didn’t have time to consume other content.I encourage to take time off of social media and consuming because it gives you space to pause and think rather than rushing from one thing to the next. It is a great exercise to gain perspective and helps keep the main thing the main thing. Lesson #4: Do It Your WayContinuing from saying, “No” and “tuning out to tune in,” stay focused on what feels good and right for you rather than thinking you need to do something because someone else is doing it and you think you should be doing it. Doing it your way requires you to go inward and listen to your intuition and practice that muscle. What does doing it your way mean? It means that regardless of how you’re supposed to do something you tune into yourself, you stay in your lane because by doing what feels good and inspiring to you will lead to greater abundance than trying to follow a templated approach from someone else. And sometimes you need to follow someone else’s approach to learn what does doing it your way look like? But when you get swopped up in it all.It is hard to see the forrest from the trees because you’re in it.It is like trying to reach the label of a bottle when you’re inside of it. You can’t. This year I learned that I can, will and have acquired more abundance not just financially but health, relationships and more by doing it my way than someone else’s way. Always check in with yourself every step of the way and listen. If something feels off, it is probably off. Go with what lights you up. Follow that. Lesson #5: My Business Will Only Grow to the Extent I GrowThere is something called the “law of the lid” and that is that as a leader in an organization, your team can only rise up to the level in which you are at. So if on a scale of 1-10 you are operating at a 7, your team will not rise above the lid. This goes for personal growth. Deeply, truly recognizing that my business will only grow to the extent I grow. The way to achieve a half a million dollar business, or 7 figures, is to continue growing who I am. This year I learned what happens when you truly invest in yourself so that you can expand and operate from the place you need to in order to become the person you need to be to achieve your goals. I used to think that meant doing all the things and it was actually the opposite. It meant become an even better keeper of my time, focus, yes’s and continuing to take massive action. I’m excited over the next handful of podcast episodes to take you through my planning process from reflecting on the past year, identifying goals and who you need to be in order to achieve those goals. I’m so excited for you and the next year ahead. I’ll talk to you next week.  Until then, keep doing it your way! Insights:“Know your metrics for the year and then focus on how you can achieve those for the quarter.““It is important to know ahead of time what we want to say YES to so we’re prepared to say NO to the other thing.”Saying “No” is also about protecting your time and energy. Keep the main thing, the main thing.”“Finding time this year to disconnect and create a quieter space was super helpful to get clear on what mattered most to me in my business and personal life rather than thinking I needed to be doing something because someone else was doing said thing.”“Stay in your lane because by doing what feels good and inspiring to you will lead to greater abundance than trying to follow a templated approach from someone else.”“invest in yourself so that you can expand and operate from the place you need to in order to become the person you need to be to achieve your goals.”

Asking yourself the question ‘what business am I really in’ is well worth doing periodically – the answer might just help you to discover hidden opportunities or an angle for business development that you otherwise wouldn’t have considered.Somewhere along the line cinemas began to look at their business in a different wayThe classic example that is given when people are talking about this topic of what business are you really in is the railroadsThe businesses that best understand the customer and create solutions that the customer wants to buy are the ones that ultimately winKodak is a cautionary tale that illustrates why it’s imperative to stay relevant to customersI see a potentially worrying parallel for many law businesses such as my own intellectual property law firmClients need to get a brand, create an identity, and protect their intellectual propertyCustomers face real problems attaining a brand that’s legally protected and makes them more money because they often don’t know who to turn to achieve that goalThe intellectual property dimension falls by the wayside because its relevance isn’t that obvious to clients or to the agencies they useOnce the brand is created, businesses are unsure how to promote themselvesClients need to promote their business to get customers and build their brand onlineSmaller businesses lack the insights into brand management so don’t get the best from their branding spendIt makes complete sense for us to offer products and services related to intellectual property to support clients to get a helicopter view of their business, build effective brands, and have a more joined up approach to marketing

Social Media Zoom Factor with Pam Moore | Social Media Marketing | Branding |Business | Entrepreneur | Small Business | Digit

At the foundation of business and life is people. At the core of people are hearts and minds that want to connect with other people. It is in our DNA to want to connect with other human beings in a communal way. We want to rub elbows, clink glasses, laugh, cry and celebrate with people who have the same goals, objectives, beliefs, and interests as we do. At the heart of social media is people. Social media is one big fat conversation that inspires, empowers, engages, delights, educates, and activates human beings when used for good. So given that people want to connect with other human beings at the core of their being, and that social media is about connecting humans, why is it that marketers struggle with connecting humans together, using social media? Do they struggle because.... they have self centered goals?they don't know how to connect humans to other humans so they simply focus on what they do know, which is spam?they are technology addicted shiny object chasers and put their geek desires before business?they struggle with communication?they don't know their audience?Whatever the reason is, we all know there are far more brands and digital marketers building communities with self serving goals vs brands delivering real value for their communities. We also know many brand leaders question the real value of social media. They struggle with connecting the dots from a social network to a human to a business goal or objective. They don't know how to prioritize where they spend their time or what social shiny object they should invest in. Are you confused as to what social networks you should be leveraging in 2016 and beyond to build community? Should you continue to focus on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter? Or should you start integrating live streaming? If yes, then should you dig into Facebook mentions, Facebook live, Periscope, Meerkat or none of the above? The truth is you should not start with the technology. You should start with the people. You should start with your goal for building community. Why do you want to connect with other human beings? WHY do you want to connect other human beings together? What is in it for them and you? If these are some of the question you would like to answer as you finalize your social media and digital marketing strategies and plans then take a listen to the 194th episode of the Social Zoom Factor podcast. In this episode I provide 10 goals for building and nurturing community that you can leverage to help you select and prioritize the social networks and platforms you should invest in to build community for your business and brand. The Morning Meditation
#160 – Walk in Love

The Morning Meditation

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 10, 2014 13:21

Yesterday on The Morning Meditation we looked at the thought Conditioned to Endure.  I am sure thankful that the Lord has placed people in my life that were conditioned to endure.Today let us look at:WALK IN LOVEEph. 5:1-2 “Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.”Many Christians are brought to the place where they say, “I am ready to serve the Lord. Where do I start?” These two verses will help to answer that question for those who are ready. First I call your attention to,THE CHALLENGEPaul says, “Be ye therefore followers of God . . .” The word “therefore” takes us back into the last chapter where words of reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness are given to the Church in Ephesus. So the first step in the challenge is to cease to grieve the Holy Spirit and confess known sin and correct wrong attitudes. The next step is to act on Paul's challenge. The word “Be” translates “ginomai” and means, “to become,  i.e. to come into existence, begin to be, receive being.” It is a verb and is a present tense middle voice and imperative mood. What this means is that Paul is challenging them to BEGIN NOW to act in response to his instruction. The middle voice is where the subject (the Ephesian Christians and us) acts and is benefited by the action. The growth in grace and the effective witness will be the result of this action. The imperative mood is a command expressing urgency. God's commands always appeal to our willing obedience. The Christian life is not passive. It is active. We must act on the truth and the truth in this case is to become followers of God. Keep in mind that Paul is not instructing unsaved people on how to be saved. He is challenging saved people to be followers of God. The first step is confess known sin and get rid of it. The second, is to begin by acting on the truth. Faith without works is dead. Next,THE GOALThe word “followers” translates “mimetes” and means, “to imitate, be an imitator.” Our word mimic is a transliteration of this word. Paul says to mimic or imitate God is the goal that I am talking to you about now. We have a Role Model and He is Jesus. Jesus is God manifest in the flesh (2 Cor.  +5:19) and is therefore the Model of which Paul speaks. This same idea is what Hebrews 12:2 has in mind: “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” The race course is the illustration in verse 1. We are to run with patience the race that is set before us. Verse 2 is presenting Jesus as the coach. We are to look to Him as our Coach. He is very familiar with the track and knows all the winning plays. Most of us are going to have a role model. When we put too much stock in a human role model and that person lets us down it can be catastrophic to our Christian faith. I have seen it happen too often. Jesus should be our main role Model. I will assure that He will never let you down. If the human role model does, remember, he/she is only human. My wife USED to read books published by a certain christian lady who was a speaker in national women's conferences all across the country. I even read some of her books. She was an outstanding writer and speaker (I also heard her on tape). Her main theme was the family. She got a divorce and married another. It was a shock and was a total disregard to all she had taught. I don't need to tell you that we were hurt and disappointed. But my wife did not have her as a role model though she did read the woman's books and enjoyed what she had to say. Jesus was my wife's Role-Model. So it never checked her pace in the race. Disappointed? Yes. Quit or slow down? No.Paul says that we have a Role-Model, let's follow Him. Next,
