Interview with Bruce Maluish, MD of VRX SilicaOur previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/vrx-silica-vrx-learning-about-investing-in-silica-sands-market-2132Recording date: 4th January 2024VRX Silica Poised to Capitalize on Favorable Silica Sand Market DynamicsWestern Australian mineral sands developer VRX Silica is nearing key approvals to develop its portfolio of high-grade silica sand projects after extended delays. VRX has completed the final submission for environmental approvals on its flagship Arrowsmith North project and expects the decision from the EPA "anytime soon" according to CEO Bruce Maluish.Silica sand is a niche industrial mineral with applications across glass manufacturing, foundries for metal castings, and emerging markets like solar panel glass. Demand growth has remained robust with the price for VRX's targeted products rising around 10% over the last three years amid tight supply. VRX is targeting export markets in Asia which should provide a stable customer base along with domestic Australian sales.Updating its capital and operating costs to account for inflation, VRX believes the fundamentals remain strong. A 30+ year expected mine life enables the amortization of upfront capex while operating costs have crept up a modest 5%, mostly offset by securing cheaper gas-fired power. Attractive debt financing options are also available for the project.Subject to securing approvals in early 2024, VRX has allowed 6-8 months for plant construction. Initial production in 2025 will be at 1 million tonnes per annum, ramping up over 2 years as customer qualifications and contracts are established. With a global shortage of high-grade silica sand suitable for key manufacturing processes, VRX already has offtake agreements for 200,000 tonnes per annum in place and strong international customer interest. With five 100+ year projects under development, clear expansion upside, and near-term share price catalysts on the horizon, VRX offers investors an opportune entry point for exposure to specialized industrial mineral supply chains with structurally robust demand trends._View VRX Silica's company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/vrx-silicaSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

In this video, our host Jonathan Aymin welcomes Renee Roberts & Marc McIntosh to the show to discuss how to better qualify your leads, how to determine what is working so you can do more of that and why there is no shortcuts to success when it comes to your venue business. About Our Guests: Renee and Marc are the owners of Team Wedding Marketing a full-service marketing agency specifically focused on the wedding industry. Both of them have spent their entire careers in the wedding industry, and in 2020 they shifted focus to helping wedding pros create marketing that is as awesome as they are. Renee Roberts began her career in the wedding industry as the owner of a floral, décor, planning, and tuxedo rental business that grew from a home based business to a large retail storefront. She went on to produce the Best Wedding Showcase, the largest and longest running wedding planning events in the Central Pennsylvania region. Marc McIntosh has worked his entire career in the wedding industry, first as the owner of a wedding-specific DJ service, then as producer of the largest wedding planning events in the Mid-Atlantic region. As a nationally recognized speaker, writer, and marketing expert, he has shared his knowledge with wedding professionals worldwide. Although they provide comprehensive marketing services for wedding venues, the primary reason for the appearance on the VRX podcast is to talk about Wedding Venue Success, a program they developed specifically for venues. They have developed a strategic plan that any venue can use to increase the number of qualified prospects who visit their venue for a tour. The best part of the strategy is that it provides this benefit without spending more money on advertising. What's the big secret? They show venues how to produce their own in-house Wedding Planning Events. When done the right way, these events (sometimes called wedding shows, open houses, etc.) attract qualified engaged couples to the venue. By inviting other local wedding professionals to participate by purchasing exhibit space, this covers the entire cost of producing and promoting the event. Of course, a lot of venues have tried producing these sorts of events, but most of them fail to attract couples who still need a venue. Even if the event is well attended, quite often the venue sees no direct benefit. Their program is a comprehensive course that teaches venues everything they need to know about planning, selling, marketing, and producing these events. The course includes video segments, workbooks, a bi-weekly group zoom meeting, and one-on-one coaching (a complete list of benefits is HERE). Our Over Coffee® Valentine special will be posted later this week! Meanwhile, as Cedars-Sinai prepares for their annual "Virtual Medicine" conference in March 2022, here is our earlier interview with conference founder Dr. Brennan Spiegel, on his book, "VRx: How Virtual Therapeutics Will Revolutionize Medicine". In March, 2018, we watched history being made in Los Angeles. Medical professionals from thirteen countries had come to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for the world's first "Virtual Medicine" conference. An incredible two days followed. Led by Cedars-Sinai Director of Health Services Research Dr. Brennan Spiegel, a series of medical professionals took the stage for presentations on pain management, therapy and preventive medicine--using virtual reality. A standing ovation followed the final session. Unbelievably, four years have passed since that groundbreaking conference. The fifth, now-annual Virtual Medicine conference, "vMed22", is coming up March 24-25 of this year, and will be entirely virtual. (Here's the link for information, and we're looking forward to attending, virtually!) Meanwhile, in 2020, we had the honor of getting to talk with Dr. Spiegel about his findings, and his experiences, as we discussed his book, VRx: How Virtual Therapeutics Will Revolutionize Medicine". Here is a rebroadcast of our interview--and we're looking forward to March 24th! On this edition of Over Coffee®, we cover: What first inspired Dr. Spiegel to begin using virtual reality in his medical practice; One of the early experiences which he had with VR, and describes in his book; How VR is currently being used in therapy to treat anxiety; A look at one doctor's use of virtual reality to help veterans with PTSD; How VR works to combat eating disorders, such as obesity and anorexia; A neuroscience explanation of why it works–to “fool” the brain!; A look at how VR can work in the brain alleviate pain; The story of one patient who used VR to control pain and wean himself off opiods; Some of the obstacles to widespread adoption of medical VR–and how the field is growing; An exciting new program, currently in the planning stages at Cedars-Sinai; One program which Dr. Spiegel developed with a congregation, in VRx, to help parishioners lower their blood pressure through VR; AND, how to find out more about upcoming free webinars and resources through Cedars-Sinai.

Where will virtual therapeutics take healthcare in upcoming years? Dr. Brennan Spiegel, MD, MSHS, gastroenterologist at Cedars-Sinai, writes about this in his book VRx: How Virtual Therapeutics Will Revolutionize Medicine. Directing the Center for Outcomes Research and Education at Cedars, he guides investigation of the application of digital health technologies, which include wearable biosensors, smartphone … Continue reading "291: Brennan Spiegel | The Coming Age Of Virtual Therapeutics In “VRx”" The post 291: Brennan Spiegel | The Coming Age Of Virtual Therapeutics In “VRx” appeared first on The Armen Show.
This post and podcast episode are for informational purposes only, and are not intended as medical advice. Please contact a healthcare professional with any health-related questions. Dr. Brennan Spiegel presents at inaugural "Virtual Medicine" conference, Los Angeles, 2018. Could virtual reality be effective as a treatment for chronic pain? Or as therapy for PTSD? As a way to combat phobias? Or even as a means of preventive medicine? According to Dr. Brennan Spiegel's new book, VRx: How Virtual Therapeutics Will Revolutionize Medicine, the answer is, "very possibly". It may also be, "very soon." In VRx, Dr. Spiegel, who is Director of Health Services Research at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, explores numerous areas of medicine in which he and his fellow medical professionals are implementing the technology into the healing process. Cedars-Sinai currently has one of the largest virtual-medicine programs in the world, with new innovations forthcoming. And some of these uses are absolutely mind-blowing. Dr. Brennan Spiegel presents some of his findings during the inaugural Virtual Medicine Conference, Los Angeles, 2018. Psychologists are looking at helping patients combat depression through the use of digital avatars. Obstetricians are starting to offer VR experiencesan alternative to an epidural. And Dr. Spiegel's own experience includes management of chronic pain--both for his patients and for himself--through virtual reality. Early in his book, Dr. Spiegel points out that virtual reality is not a panacea. But he takes his readers on a journey, starting with his own first introduction to the technology in 2014. From there, VRx explores the cases and research in the areas in which he's seen it work effectively. Dr. Spiegel (who is the founder of Cedars-Sinai's annual Virtual Medicine conference, which we've had the pleasure of covering in the past) talked about his own journey from skeptic to virtualist, offered a look at some of the use cases in his book and previewed some exciting developments on the horizon. in the field of virtual medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. On this edition of Over Coffee®, we cover: What first inspired Dr. Spiegel to begin using virtual reality in his medical practice; One of the early experiences which he had with VR, and describes in his book; How VR is currently being used in therapy to treat anxiety; A look at one doctor's use of virtual reality to help veterans with PTSD; How VR works to combat eating disorders, such as obesity and anorexia; And, a neuroscience explanation of why it works--to "fool" the brain!; A look at how VR can work in the brain alleviate pain; The story of one patient who used VR to control pain and wean himself off opiods; Some of the obstacles to widespread adoption of medical VR--and how the field is growing; An exciting new program, currently in the planning stages at Cedars-Sinai; One program which Dr. Spiegel developed with a congregation, covered in VRx, to help parishioners lower their blood pressure through VR; AND, how to find out more about upcoming free webinars and resources through Cedars-Sinai. Would you like to hear medical-VR findings from the top four winners in Cedars-Sinai's international "Best Clinical VR Research of 2020" competition? They'll be presenting their findings, live, on Tuesday, December 8th at 9:00 am, Pacific time. Here's the link for more information.
We are in the middle of an unprecedented time of anxiety, depression and worries because of the global coronavirus pandemic. It’s affecting people’s jobs, a sense of security, and relative predictability, consequently our relationships and health, especially mental health. I think it’s safe to assume we wish for this to be over as soon as possible and that we could be in a different reality. To a certain extent, that’s actually possible, if you have virtual reality equipment. Virtual reality can have a literally healing effect. Over 5000 studies by today have shown the efficacy of VR for pain management, PTSD, eating disorders, mental health and more. In this episode, you will hear from dr. Brennan Spiegel a gastroenterologist who directs the Cedars-Sinai Center for Outcomes Research and Education. He recently published a book titled VRx in which he explains the applicability of VR and looks at this digital therapy from a philosophical and critical point of view. In this discussion, you will hear him explain what makes VR so healing, what are its potential side-effects and why different patients respond differently to it. Regular listeners will know that podcast host Alan Smithson is no stranger to the conference circuit, and is often asked to present or speak at the big XR expos. In a special episode of XR for Business, you’ll get to hear Alan in his element, as we present his opening remarks at this year’s VRX Conference. “Well, thank you guys for joining. Again, welcome to the Blue Room at VRX 2019. My name’s Alan Smithson, and we’re gonna be talking today about the transformation of education using XR. I want to just quickly talk about MetaVRse. We’re building a platform for future-proof learning. And what that means to us is as more spatial computing technologies come on board, what we want to do is make sure that organizations — from training and enterprise, and also schools and organizations in high schools and universities — all have access to not only the content, but the platforms to let them make their own content. So what we’re building is a platform marketplace for technologies and content to grow. We’re entering into the exponential age of humanity. We’re hitting the point at which all of these technologies converge together. So in the next 10 years, more wealth will be created than all of previous human history. We’re entering into an inflection point, where education systems are going to be stretched beyond our wildest imaginations. Over the next 10 years, more wealth can be created, but right now — currently — we’re building a city the size of Manhattan around the world globally, every single month. Yeah. We’re going to experience massive changes, from environmental changes, to job force changes, to educational changes, all of these changes are happening to us at a pace that we’ve never had before. It’s happening faster and faster. And somebody said this to me the other day. They said “Today is the slowest it will ever be.” It’s terrifying, it’s so fast. But learning is required at every level, whether it’s skilled trades, unskilled trades, whether it is retirees. We’re working on technologies that will make people live to 150 years old. What are they going to do? We need to rethink learning from a ground-up level. All types of learning, whether it’s at work or at school, all of these things that need a complete rethink. Here’s a crazy stat: 75 percent of the global workforce will be millennials by 2023. Who else is terrified by that fact? Right? 120 million people need to be reskill, retrained, and upskilled due to AI and automation in the next three years. We don’t have the systems in place to deal with this. Two trillion dollars, that is the global impact that VR and AR will make over the next 10 years, by 2030. And this is an estimate by PWC. So why is now the perfect time to get into virtual and augmented reality for learning? So over the last three decades we saw the rise of the personal computer and it took 20 years — 30 years, almost — to get everybody onto the personal computer. And then we saw the rise of mobile, and that took about 20 years. XR is going to take about 10 years to go to global mass. So by 2030, we’re gonna be wearing glasses around and those glasses will be inexpensive. They’ll be running on the cloud, so the compute power won’t be on your phone or on your glasses. It’ll be in the cloud, it’ll be all edge computing. So we’re gonna see this massive growth. And right now, we’re past the hype cycle. We’ve already seen proven business use cases. We’re seeing real ROI being driven. And if you look at the compounded annual growth rate of this industry, it’s unprecedented. The only other industry that’s growing as fast is AI. And it perfectly c

As this episode goes live, Alan’s away giving a talk at the XR Intelligence conference in San Francisco. A little while back, he sat down with Event Director Kathryn Bloxham, to get a sense of who will be there, what there is to see, and where the XR market is as 2019 comes to a close. Alan: Hey everyone, it’s Alan here, with the XR for Business Podcast. Today, we’re speaking with Kathryn Bloxham from Reuters Events brand, XR Intelligence, about their amazing business conference, VRX happening in San Francisco, December 12th and 13th. I will be speaking at that conference on the transformation of learning with XR. We will also be discussing the findings of their 2019 XR industry report. All that and more, on the XR for Business Podcast. Welcome to the show, Kathryn. How are you today? Kathryn: Hi, I’m great, thanks. How are you doing? Alan: I’m so amazing. I’m really excited for a number of things. One, your industry report is the quintessential report on what the industry is actually looking forward to in 2020 and beyond. I’m going to be speaking at your VRX conference — we’ll talk about that, and all the great things — and you also host a number of really informational webinars. So we’ll get into that. But let’s talk about you and how did you end up being in where you are right now? Kathryn: Yeah, so I work for XR Intelligence, which was actually recently acquired by Thomson Reuters under the new Reuters Events brand, which is very exciting. We speak to people throughout the entire year about the trends, challenges, solutions, and opportunities that they see in virtual, augmented, and mixed reality. So primarily our audience are end users of the technology. So it started mostly as people in gaming a few years ago and the entertainment side, and gradually is actually getting more and more focused on enterprise customers. And then we also put together various types of content throughout the year. So we do the webinars, industry surveys and reports, as well as three events throughout the year across the US and Europe. We’ve done it for the past few years. and this year we managed to get around 750 people take part. And there was some really interesting patterns that emerged when we looked at the 2019 survey compared with the 2018 survey. So this year, for example, the hardware, software and third party content creators to XR have seen much stronger growth in the enterprise side of that business, compared to growth in the consumer sector over the past 12 months. So I guess that’s kind of in line with people moving towards the money as people are seeing a lot more money in the enterprise side. And that’s kind of reflected in the fact that consumer adoption hasn’t been as much as people would have expected it to be at this stage. So growth is accelerating for enterprise applications, particularly maybe surprisingly in VR. So in 2018, 38 percent said that they were seeing strong or very strong growth in VR for enterprise and this rose to 46 percent in this year’s survey. So it kind of reflects the demand trends with enterprise end users seeing strong ROI. And then 93 percent of the enterprise users said that VR had had a positive impact on their b
And that really allows our contacts to keep their eye on the progress of the industry and make informed business decisions about investing in immersive technologies. Alan: Seems to be the perfect jam for the XR for Business Podcast, as our mission here is to inspire and educate business leaders to invest in XR technologies. Looking back on the year, it wasn’t my favorite year in gaming but it was far from the worst. I expected a slower week with holidays happening in the US, which is where a lot of the gaming news comes from but surprisingly there were a few good stories worth digging into. Google Stadia continues to underwhelm(01:06), Phil Spencer talks about the potential of VR on the Xbox or as I like to refer to it VRX(04:33), 2K games has decided to give Battleborn the endgame treatment (07:27) and EA gives us a little news about the launch of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (09:37).

Its episode Eighty Four and we are talking about E-Bikes. Yes the dreaded E-Bike conversation. You either love them or you hate them. But are they for you and should you be looking at buying one? We welcome back Robert from Freewheelin’ to discuss the whole e-bike debate and fill us in on the Vitus E-Sommet he had for a test review via the guys from Chain Reaction Cycles. I love the e-bike debate, both Robert and myself after doing episode number 82, where we reviewed the 2019 Vitus Escarpe 29 VRX, decided to publish a further episode about an e-bike he recently reviewed on his website. The discussion ended up more of a chat about e-bikes in general than an actual review. We both came to the conversations not knowing each other's views or opinions regarding the introduction of e-bikes into mountain biking. Robert recently spent several weeks riding Vitus E-Summit which the guys from Chain Reaction Cycles kindly lent him. Robert reviewed his experience on his website, and after reading the article, I thought that it would be interesting to get him on the podcast to chat about his first experience on an e-bike. We talk about the differences between an e-bike and a regular bike, how they handle differently, what trails they are suited for, the benefits, the drawbacks, uses and market prices.

In this conversation, Stephanie reviews the data and assesses whether now is the right time to jump into VR, mobile AR, or smartglasses. We tackle that question by discussing the progress and monetization strategies for each. Stephanie also draws lessons from previous cycles to better appreciate where we are today.Although those lines, Stephanie argues that VR is not dead. In fact, compared to earlier cycles, VR is really strong. While earlier in the cycle, smartglasses hold a ton of potential as well. You can find all of the show notes at thearshow.com.

How one of the smartest minds on Wall Street was blinded by belief and abandoned due diligence VRX, CP, MTN, HLF, CMG Welcome to Mind Over Money. I’m Kevin Cook, your field guide and story teller for the fascinating arena of Behavioral Economics. I’m back after a 3-week bout with bronchitis. I’ve got a funny story about what I learned at the doctor that ties into a great neuroscience topic: how we acquire new skills. But first, let me preview our main topic for the show today... As 2016 winds down, I want to re-cap one of the biggest stock market implosions of the past 18 months and the big name investor who last week began some tax loss selling after a 95% drop in the shares. The stock is that of Valeant Pharmaceuticals (VRX). And the big investor is Bill Ackman of Pershing Square Capital Management. His funds have lost billions of dollars because the Valeant implosion. And the story I am going to tell you will definitely interest you if you are at all curious about how smart people make really disastrous decisions. Okay, so what happened at the doctor? As part of my exam, they gave me a chest X-ray to check for pneumonia. The good news is that I didn’t have pneumonia. The more interesting news the doctor shared on her way out… “Oh, by the way,” she said. “You have two cracked ribs.” Be sure to listen to today's podcast to hear where those cracked ribs came from and what it has to do with "carving" new neural pathways. I'll give you a clue: I had to retire from snowboarding at the ripe young age of 37. The Valeant Implosion Valeant Pharmaceuticals stock was trading around $260 per share at its peak in the summer of 2015. Today, it’s trading $15. The story of the collapse has to do with an ambitious CEO named Mike Pearson and his company’s strategy to quickly become one of the top 10 pharmaceutical corporations in the world. Buying Bausch & Lomb for over $8 billion dollars was solid proof that they were very serious. Pearson’s stated goal was actually to get Valeant in the top 5, among the likes of Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, Novartis, and Merck. I know a little about this story because I was an investor in VRX in 2013 and 2014, catching several pieces of its rise from $65 to $145. The fundamental growth story, both in terms of sales and profits, was impressive. But I was also following on the coattails of some of the smartest money on Wall Street, including legendary investors like Ruane, Cunniff, and Goldfarb who ran the Sequoia fund. In many investments, I often trust the research skills and judgement of several big investors more than my own analysis. Based on Pearson’s goal, he would have to grow Valeant from a $20 billion company, in terms of its market capitalization, to a nearly $200 billion company. That would be a 10X feat. Everything I saw showed that he might have a shot. And the only reason I didn’t ride the stock higher in 2015 when it vaulted from $145 to $175 in a few weeks was because I was waiting for a pullback to get in. Enter Bill Ackman who, it was revealed through SEC filings in February of 2015, was acquiring a sizable nearly 10% stake in Valeant and partnering with the company to buy another pharmaceutical firm, Allergan. Shares of VRX shot up to $200 in late February and never looked back until they peaked in August of 2015 just over $260. So what happened? Why did Valeant, as an investment and as a company, begin to fall apart? The details of the collapse are complicated and part of a much longer story that involved accounting irregularities, egregious drug pricing practices, and questionable pharmacy partners cooperating in questionable sales reporting practices. In the Mind Over Money podcast I share a timeline of the events of August through October by Stephen Gandel writing for Fortune magazine on October 31, 2015. And the most interesting questions I'm trying to answer are about how Bill Ackman ignored the clues about Valeant's messy business practices and rode the stock -- with a position in the tens of millions of shares -- to stunning losses. Not only that, even when the wolves were out, from Congress to research firm Citron, and shares were quickly collapsing to $100, all Bill could think of was massively increasing his position by buying tens of millions of dollars’ worth of options. You can learn more about those options strategies in this video... Synthetic Stock: How Ackman Double-Down on VRX This whole Valeant-Ackman saga will be studied for years for its lessons in behavioral finance and decision-making. I hope I've helped you understand it better so you can see how we can all be blinded by our hope and greed. Kevin Cook is a Senior Stock Strategist for Zacks Investment Research.

It’s perfect timing to have Kevin on the show because he’s Zacks’ expert in institutional buying. He tracks their purchases for his Follow the Money Trader. And there’s been no bigger story than what is happening at Valeant (VRX). Pharmaceutical giant Valeant has been on everyone’s lips for the last several months regarding questions about its drug pricing. It was the subject of a New York Times cover story and there have been subpoenas issued by US prosecutors. Adding to the injury, the short-selling firm Citron Research came out with a report on the company which slammed the shares further. Shares are down a whopping 71% in the last 3 months, and went from a new all-time high to a multi-year low in that time span. Many institutional investors were caught in the Valeant downdraft. The deadline for the filing of third quarter 13-F forms also just passed which means firms with assets of more than $100 million had to disclose their moves. Are the institutional investors selling their Valeant positions or buying more? Who’s in and who’s out? Sequoia Fund (SEQUX), a prestigious value investment fund which closed to new investors in 2013, is one of the largest shareholders in Valeant. It has over a 10% stake. According to recent filings, it has actually bought even more shares despite losing billions over the last few months on its existing stake. Outside of Valeant, what else are the top institutional names buying? The 13-F forms revealed that Michael Kors (KORS), Apple (AAPL) and Mobileye (MBLY) are still on their radar. Should you mimic the buys of the institutional greats? And if so, how do you protect yourself from a Valeant situation? Join Kevin and Tracey as they discuss the juicy tidbits from the new filings in this week’s podcast.
