What is DEI Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion? Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are vital to creating and maintaining a successful workplace; one founded on the principle that all people can thrive personally and professionally.  It's important to fully understand each component, both individually and how they work together. Diversity is the presence of differences that may include race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomic status, language, (dis)ability, age, religious commitment, or political perspective.  Populations that have been-and remain- underrepresented among practitioners in the field and marginalized in the broader society.Equity is promoting justice, impartiality, and fairness within the procedures, processes, and distribution of resources by institutions or systems.  Tackling equity issues requires an understanding of the root causes of outcome disparities within our society.Inclusion is an outcome to ensure those that are diverse actually feel and/or are welcome.  Inclusion outcomes are met when you, your institution, and your program are truly inviting to all.  On Leap of Fate Pod 94, our guest this week, Kellie Wagner, is the founder and CEO of Collective DEI Lab. Collective DEI Lab works with high-growth, millennial-driven brands and organizations to build cultures that attract, engage, and retain underrepresented talent so that all employees can thrive. If you say to someone, "You have a mountain to climb", you mean that it will be difficult for them to achieve what they want to achieve. The highs, lows, challenges, and success he experienced on the 3-week climb3. Reflection now that he has accomplished climbing Mount Aconcagua. Aconcagua is a mountain in the Principal Cordillera of the Andes mountain range, in Mendoza Province, Argentina. Aconcagua is one of the Seven Summits, the highest peaks on each of the seven continents. It is second in height after Mount Everest. The first known attempt to reach the mountain's summit was made in 1883, but the attempt failed. In 1897, Swiss mountaineer Matthias Zurbriggen became the first known climber to successfully reach the summit. The altitude on Aconcagua is so extreme that a number of hikers have died from altitude sickness while trying to reach the summit. Climbers also face the challenge of high winds resulting from frequent storms. For anyone who wants to hear an amazing story of perseverance, overcoming adversity, mind over matter, and mountaineers wanting to climb Mount Aconcagua or any mountain, this is the pod for you!Enjoy yall!Nate's IG: https://www.instagram.com/nredman1104/Support the show (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrmJ8rY4ivAKnN3zG0W-1_A)

    80. Emotional Intelligence: 10 Tips to Improve Your EQ

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 3, 2022 24:01

In Leap of Fate Pod 80, we share actionable tips for Emotional Intelligence: 10 Tips to Improve Your EQ that will help you start making emotions work for you, instead of against you.Emotional intelligence (also known as emotional quotient or EQ) is the ability to understand, use, and manage your own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict. This is follow-up to Leap of Fate Pod 79 where we discuss goal settingBelow are 10 tips for you to connect with your feelings, turn intention into action, and make informed decisions about what matters most to you.1. The 25/5 Rule:The idea behind the 25/5 rule is that we often get distracted by things that are interesting but that prevent us from making progress on the more important things. Success means learning to say no, so you can say yes to the things that matter most.2. Writing in reverse:Writing in reverse is simple: You have to reverse your role as the writer (of an email, a report, a landing page, etc.) with the role of the recipient (your audience). How will what you send be received by the intended audience?3. The golden questionThe golden question is actually five questions in one. When you need to make a decision but you feel your emotions taking over, ask yourself:How will I feel about this in:a day?a week?a month?a year?five years?4. The 5-minute rule:Make a deal with yourself to work on a task for just five minutes. If you want to quit after that, no problem. This tricks your brain into seeing larger tasks as small ones.5. The rule of clocking out:If you're anything like me, you view work as a priority. But how do you balance that priority with even more important priorities, like your family, or your mental health?Set working times for every day, and when the end of the day comes, clock out.6. The rule of writing:The rule of writing has many benefits: It clarifies your thinking, improves memory and understanding, and helps you communicate better.7. The five-step rule against procrastination:How you can break away from the nasty procrastination habit.8. The 3-Question rule:There are three things you must always ask yourself before you say anything.Does this need to be said?Does this need to be said by me?Does this need to be said by me, now?9. The rule of reappraisal:Whenever you feel unproductive, stuck in a rut, or simply afraid of what's ahead, you must remember the rule of reappraisal:Don't focus on the path ahead. Look back at how far you've come. This simple shift in perspective can change frustration into contentment, anxiety into appreciation.10. First things first:Narrow your task list down to only two or three items, max. Then, focus only on the first one and start chipping away.Use these learnings of Emotional intelligence to build stronger relationships, succeed at school and work, and achieve your career and personal goals!Support the show (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrmJ8rY4ivAKnN3zG0W-1_A)

Do these statements sound familiar? “I should have trusted my gut.” “I knew what was really going on but I didn't say anything.” "I wanted it so badly but I still walked away."Do you know how to listen to your intuition? This will help you find your Ikigai of perfect balance in your life. We explore both of these ideas in Leap of Fate Pod 64.Intuition exists in all of us, whether we acknowledge it or not. The more we can learn about it, the more we can use it to shape our lives for the better. The human brain has two ‘operating systems'. The first is quick, instinctual, and effortless. This is where our intuition lies. Intuition works by drawing on patterns collected by our experience and when we have to make a quick decision about whether something is real, fake, feels good, feels bad, right or wrong, we draw on these patterns.  It all happens ‘offline, outside our conscious awareness. The second operating system is slower to respond. It's more analytical and deliberate and it's conscious.Leap of Fate Pod's guest this week, Julia Li, and I have a fireside chat over these concepts. Julia was working at Google for 6 years and felt her intuition pulling her more towards a job in sustainability. She finally listened to it, quit her Google job, and followed her intuition down a path learning more about sustainability. As a result, she found her dream job and put her at the center of her Ikigai! What is Ikagi? Ikigai (ee-key-guy) is a Japanese concept that combines the terms iki, meaning “alive” or “life,” and gai, meaning “benefit” or “worth.” When combined, these terms mean that which gives your life worth, meaning, or purpose. Ikagi combines: 1. What you love2. What the world needs3. What you are paid for4. What you are great at it. If you can find something that combines all 4, you are truly at the center of bliss and happiness. To help get to your Ikagi, there are 4 key topics we explore and provide solutions for:1. Developing a healthy relationship with your intuition2. ID your fears and how you can overcome them3. Being comfortable with ambiguity and what you can do to overcome the nerves4. Don't undersell yourself. Know your self-worth and stick by it!Intuition is powerful and can lead to amazing insights, but that doesn't mean you follow it blindly. It's still important to use common sense and a balance of rationality. Julia and I lay out what you can do to follow your intuition to find your Ikigai! Enjoy yall! Follow your intuition. Someone with an attitude of gratitude appreciates everything in life.  They are grateful for their relationships, their health, their business, and their sense of well-being.Having an attitude of gratitude is important because it shifts your focus from yourself to appreciating someone else or something else. When you develop an attitude of gratitude you feel happier and more positive.  Gratitude increases compassion and self-care.  It also makes you grateful for the people and things that matter.Leap of Fate's guest this week, Chris DT Gordon teaches and speaks internationally on his line TAG: The Attitude of Gratitude. This came after a near-death experience. After contracting necrotizing fasciitis (flesh-eating bacteria) from a simple scratch, Chris spent over two months in the hospital, endured numerous surgeries that have permanently changed him physically, and faced an extremely important question: How was he going to live the rest of his life? Would he become sad, resentful, bitter, and angry? Or would he rise above his circumstances and choose a more positive route?Chris chose the latter and created The Attitude of Gratitude (TAG), which he shares so others can overcome their own “personal bacteria”, increase their positivity and gratitude, and improve the lives of those around them. T- Think about the good things in your lifeA- Acknowledge the appreciatedG- Give others a reason to be thankfulAs we continue to go through this pandemic, having TAG is more important than ever. It is the confluence of financial, credit, and debt management knowledge that is necessary to make financially responsible decisions—choices that are integral to our everyday lives. A lack of financial literacy affects people in developed or advanced economies, as well as those who live in emerging or developing countries.  In sum, financial literacy has a material impact on individuals, families, and businesses: balancing a budget, buying a home, running a business, funding their children's education, and ensuring an income for retirement. My guest Michael Hsu is an entrepreneur and CFO. He built a financial consulting firm called DeepSky working with entrepreneurs advising their multi-million businesses through systems and processes. He took his experience in entrepreneurship and condensed it into a methodology named MEASURE x HACK to serve as a guide to building a successful business, life, and relationship.
