The Regional Victoria market continued to improve in 2023, following the lead from Melbourne, although not rising as dramatically as the capital city has recently.   As the year wore on, Regional Victoria built on the recovery evident in mid-year, with the number of rising locations almost doubling in the second half of 2023.   Two-thirds of locations have positive trends with their sales activity, which means buyer demand, although some locations have been slow to join the overall theme of revival and growth.   To put the Regional Victoria market into perspective, the 66% of locations with positive trends is a solid performance, but well short of Melbourne (87%), Brisbane (85%), Regional Queensland (76%) and Regional South Australia (74%).   Geelong continues to be a market leader in Victoria, with most of its suburbs on board with the state's recovery, led by locations such Armstrong Creek and Charlemont.   Bendigo has an equally positive market, with strong buyer demand for affordable suburbs like Eaglehawk which has a median house price $515,000 – a price level that's impossible to find in the Greater Melbourne area.   Ballarat is a little less bullish at this stage, but has been a very solid growth over the past five or so years.   The Cardinia LGA on the south-eastern fringe of Greater Melbourne has good momentum, led by the towns of Officer (median price $715,000) and Pakenham (median price $640,000).   The Mitchell LGA, on the northern outskirts of Greater Melbourne, continues to attract buyers from the capital city. All five of the main Mitchell Shire towns have positive trends, headed by Wallan and Seymour.   The Macedon Ranges LGA is also a solid performer, led by Kyneton, as is the Moorabool LGA headed by Darley and Bacchus Marsh.   The Latrobe Valley region east of Melbourne is characterised by consistent markets, including Moe (median price $365,000), and Newborough (median price $417,000) – again, with relative affordability a major attraction for home buyers and investors.   Other regional centres with good momentum include Wodonga, Wangaratta, Benalla, Bairnsdale, Paynesville, Drouin and Echuca.   Overall, the appeal of the Victoria market is that it provides affordable options in strong, growing regional cities like Bendigo, Geelong and Ballarat which are well connected to Melbourne by road and rail – as well as other options further afield like Shepparton, Mildura, Wodonga, Warrnambool and Traralgon.

The unsung heroes of this world, in James' opinion, are engineers. Sure, people talk about Einstein and Marco Polo and Shakespeare and Steve Jobs and Winston Churchill and Nelson Mandela and Rihanna. And yes, good on them. Amazing stuff. But the fact is that none of these high achievers would have been able to do much at all without engineers. Every time you drive on a road or a bridge or through a tunnel or get on a bus or a train over a tall building, or open your laptop or tap on your phone you're only able to do it because of engineers. Maybe someone else had the idea to build the road or the laptop, although engineers have plenty of ideas. But engineers turn those ideas into things that actually work and that we can use without them. We wouldn't be able to go anywhere or do anything. On starting with Calix in 2012, Matthew's role was the mechanical engineer for the Calix Flash Calciner (CFC), from the conceptual process design through to the commissioning and first production runs.Following the CFC's completion, Matthew was involved in the development of the ACTI-Mag product, spending many hours helping to develop the production process and first manufacturing plant at Calix's main production site located in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria. Having gained experience developing the process for the ACTI-Mag product, Matthew was then put in charge of developing and delivering a high-volume output ACTI-Mag production facility in Queensland. The project was developed under budget and ahead of schedule. At the end of 2016, Matthew was seconded to the European branch of Calix to work on the LEILAC project. Matthew was placed in charge of delivering the Calix component of the FEED stage and developing the budget for the project. With the consortium approving the budget and the project moving into the detailed design and procurement stage, Matthew was placed in charge of delivering the mechanical components of the project, which will begin construction in mid-2018. On returning back to Australia, Matthew was placed in charge of Calix's development program for an electric calciner for processing innovative battery materials. The program ran to schelude and was delivered early and under budget. In 2019 Matthew moved into the Engineer Team Leader role, managing the engineering team based in Australia to help support the development of Calix's core technology, the European development program and local water business. Claire joined Calix as a process engineer in January 2021. She started at Calix as the primary BATMn plant operator, working to complete trials and assist in the development of test plans. Claire was also involved with data processing and reporting of results from the BATMn plant to assist the Engineering Team with feasibility studies and design phases for various projects. Now, Claire works as the R&D Plant Coordinator, where she is responsible for working with key stakeholders to identify and facilitate program and trial requirements in the BATMn plant. She is also heavily involved in ensuring safe operating procedures are maintained and utilised and the plant, and its works, comply with all Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements. Prior to joining Calix, Claire graduated with a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from RMIT University, where she spent her final year completing numerical studies to investigate flame speeds of alternative fuels.”

The Age reported "Soil being dug up in the heart of Melbourne to build the $6.7 billion West Gate Tunnel has PFAS levels that are 100 times the acceptable amount in drinking water, but this was never disclosed to the public, internal documents from the environmental watchdog reveal. In the first official confirmation of high levels of PFAS on the project, secret Environment Protection Authority documents seen by The Sunday Age show soil dug up along the West Gate Freeway has been classed as the second-highest level of hazardous waste. Documents lodged in the Supreme Court on Thursday show the Moorabool community group has requested a judicial review of Planning Minister Richard Wynne’s decision to amend the Moorabool Planning Scheme, which would allow potentially millions of tonnes of PFAS-contaminated soil to be dumped at the Maddingley Brown Coal landfill in Bacchus Marsh." In this show I give an update on the situation. A situation that could see cancer linked chemicals find their way into the food on your dinner plate. According to MEG, the Minister bypassed community consultation in his decision, reasoning that all community concerns were addressed by an Environment Protection Authority (EPA) approval. But here’s the rub: In December, the environmental watchdog reversed its own approval to dump contaminated spoil from the West Gate Tunnel at Bacchus Marsh. "The EPA conceded that its approval of this plan was unlawful and of no legal effect.” MEG said Note some may find this content confronting. In tonights episode, James Hohepa Smith and I discuss the toxic soil proposed for Wyndham Vale and Bacchus Marsh (right next to one of Victoria's major food bowls). We go over the contamination risks as identified by the USA EPA, the harm that can happen and who should be worried. And I have to ask, why would Labor poison Melbourne's food, why would they dump a toxic mess in their heartland? Especially when you read quotes like this, "The class of chemicals, called PFAS, are in non-stick pans, water-resistant clothes, food packaging and firefighting foam. Nicknamed “forever chemicals”, they do not break down in the environment and accumulate in the human body. Numerous studies link PFAS exposure with cancer, thyroid problems and developmental issues in children." Section 20(4) refers to the ability of the Minister for Planning to amend the Planning Scheme without consultation. It is however discretionary on the Minister as to whether consultation occurs and to what extent. Any person can request Ministerial intervention to prepare an amendment to a planning scheme. The planning practice note ‘Ministerial Powers of Intervention in Planning and Heritage Matters (2004)’ provides criteria that is considered by the Minister in making a decision on whether to intervene. The process for requesting Ministerial intervention can be summarised as follows: 1. The applicant will request the Minister’s intervention. 2. Minister considers the request in accordance with the following criteria: - The matter will be one of genuine State or regional significance. - The matter will give effect to an outcome where the issues have been reasonably considered and the views of affected parties are known. - The matter will be the introduction of an interim provision or requirement and substantially the same provision or requirement is also subject to a separate process of review (such as the introduction of permanent controls in a planning scheme). - The matter will raise issues of fairness or public interest. - The matter requires co-ordination to facilitate decision -making by more than one agency. If the Minister decides to intervene, there is no requirement for public notification under the Planning and Environment Act 1987. There is also no requirement for consultation with Council. Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of The business of Dance Podcast. Today I am back with another amazing guest here on the show. Today I will be interviewing the fantastic Sharon Saunders who is the creator and owner of Sharon Saunders Dancers, which is a studio located in Bendigo Australia. Sharon commenced classes in Marong in 1992. The school expanded to Kangaroo Flat, Victoria Australia in 1994. In 1999 Sharon & her husband Damien built a fully equipped dance studio in the heart of Kangaroo Flat. Technique and the fundamentals of dance are taught through the internationally recognised Australian Teachers of Dancing syllabus. They pride ourselves in bringing some of Australia's best teachers and dancers to Bendigo each year.   Sharron’s Bio: Sharon grew up in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, she began dancing at the age of three years. Sharon studied Jazz, Tap, Ballet and Calisthenics. In later years her biggest influence in dance was studying Classical Ballet and Jazz with Peter Faux of Peter Faux Dance Ensemble in Melton. She also loved Youth Theatre and was involved in many productions as an actor and dancer. Sharon discovered her love for teaching at the age of 17 when she started assistant teaching with Peter Faux; she married and moved to Bendigo in 1988 and started a family soon after. Sharon has worked in Pharmacy and cosmetics, also as a host with Humphrey B Bear, and as a dance teacher for over 30 years! In 1992 Sharon opened her own dance school in Marong Hall. From there the school grew with a second school at Healthworks in Kangaroo Flat. The Marong and Kangaroo Flat studios grew rapidly while under her direction and soon merged in Kangaroo Flat. Sharon later built her own purpose built a studio in Kangaroo Flat where they still are today. Sharon was a member of The Australian Theatrical Dance Inc for 20 years. Sharon is now an Affiliate member of The Australian Teachers of Dancing Limited and excited to share their syllabi with her students and take advantage of their ongoing professional development opportunities.  Sharon loves all aspects of dance; it is her life! She is honoured to share her passion of dance with others – this is evident through the countless number of students who have danced until adulthood at SSD (and proudly 3 students are currently working as SSD teachers). Lifelong friendships are constantly formed by Parents and students at SSD. Sharon’s mission was always to provide quality dance education in a caring and friendly environment. Sharon continues to run SSD with great passion and enjoyment. She also keeps a close eye on all dancers often relief teaching different classes and is always working behind the scenes to ensure SSD runs smoothly and efficiently!   Sharon Saunders Dancers: http://www.sharonsaundersdancers.com/studio-2   For more Business Of Dance please, like us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram @claireosheacoaching. A few months ago a rather hard core dude called Matt Girls came across my radar somehow and we chatted a little via emails. Perhaps there was something about my "extreme" Spud Fit Challenge that interested him, after all he is a pretty extreme dude himself! He told me he was coming to Melbourne to do this ridiculous race called the Down Under 135 - 135miles (217kms) of continuous running through the Lerderderg Gorge with around 9000m of elevation gain and decent. I told my wife he was coming and asked if she thought it would be too forward of me to ask if I could crew for him. I hardly knew him after all and had only ever talked to him via messages, surely I should get to know him a little better before I ask to tag along on one of his crazy challenges?! Mandy encouraged me to ask and see what happens. When I got home I opened up my computer to message him and found that he'd already written to me... to ask me to crew for him! A few days later we met in a small, gravel car park at the edge of Bacchus Marsh, around half an hour before the start of the race.
