This episode features a rich discussion between Ali Mezey and guest Elizabeth Castagna, a certified Alexander Technique instructor. They dive into themes of being conscious as a mover – specifically while walking. Do we feel supported by the Earth as we walk? How safe do we feel as bodies – and how could we feel safer? They also talk about the impact of injury on movement awareness. Ali and Elizabeth discuss how conscious movement can lead to enhanced sensation, and sense of wholeness – not just with yourself but with the world. The conversation touches upon topics such as kinetic chains, compensatory movement patterns, and the psycho-emotional aspects of body awareness. Elizabeth shares personal insights, including her experience with Lyme disease and its effect on her vision. With a focus on cultivating sensitivity and supporting others in their embodiment journeys, the conversation underscores the transformative potential of body-based practices. To be an angel to the podcast, click hereTo read more about the podcast, click hereMORE ALI MEZEY:Website:  www.alimezey.comPersonal Geometry® and the Magic of Mat Work Course information:www.alimezey.com/personal-geometry-foundationsTransgenerational Healing Films: www.constellationarts.comMORE ELIZABETH CASTAGNA:The Beacon Walking Lab WorkshopsInstagram: @feellikeyourselfagainPhoto of Elizabeth: David McIntyreThe Alexander Technique is a method of movement education that focuses on improving posture, coordination, and body awareness. Eliza Woolsey Howland was a Civil War nurse, philanthropist and historical writer who was a member of the upper crust in Beacon during the middle of the 19th century. Among other contributions to the city, she co-founded the Howland Library, which celebrated its 150th anniversary this year.  In honor of that anniversary, historian Emily Murnane comes on the podcast to talk about Eliza's life and legacy in this community. Emily is a lifelong Beaconite who has worked as a teacher, gardener and historical reenactor, among other things. She portrayed Eliza in a recent presentation at the Howland  Cultural Center. For that event she wore formal period garb and adorned the stage with historically significant props while guiding her audience through the life of this fascinating nurse and benefactor.  Episode recorded at Beacon AV Lab. It's time to go long and think about epics! But actually, we're thinking about the people who make up those epics. It's the best of both worlds really: you get the big space battles and also the interpersonal conflicts, the questions of morality and justice alongside mistakes and goofs. How like life! ITINERARY: Neon Yang (The Genesis of Misery) talks wanting to write a historical epic and writing a space epic instead, about finding truth in storytelling, and about how trying to make sense of Q-Anon helped frame some of Misery's world. Tamsyn Muir (Nona the Ninth) talks about the delightful(?) surprise that is Nona, taking cues from Greek drama, going against the rules, and writing books like they're everything-burritos. Also, what is simping? (Seriously, can someone help explain to both of us?) Justice McCray (City Councilmember, Beacon NY) talks about moving from activism to running for office and what it means to reimagine things like safety and community. Adam is a super talented, upcoming painter with a solo show that opens at Mother Gallery on March 18. More about Adam HERE and HERE. I met Adam Amram when I was spending a month in Beacon NY at my own DIY artist residency. A terrific artist, Adam Amram was nearby in an official residency at a prestigious gallery, Mother, nearby. In this session we dig into the head of Adam and how his childhood experiences—his family moved to the US from Israel when he was 4years old—may have influence on his work. Adam has a very tight relationship with his family and his partner. Dr. Lisa thinks he need to develop more boundaries and with his neighbors. Dr. Lisa is VERY IMPRESSED with this artist's work—very much worth a trip to Beacon for anyone who is curious about what is happening in the contemporary art world.

A look at some supposed ghosts and creepy cemeteries in Beacon, NY, as well as some haunting aspects of the area's recent history.  A feeling of uneasiness permeates the beautiful town of Beacon, NY. It's a city of industrial ruins, cemeteries (including a terrifying abandoned one), and the memories of a sanatorium for the ultra wealthy and an old asylum for mentally ill criminals. Deep woods surround the city, and mountains loom, adding to a sense of natural beauty, or, possibly, of claustrophobia and a feeling of being watched. Highlights include: • A figure that my wife saw in my footage from an abandoned cemetery • Supposed cemetery hauntings • Zelda Fitzgerald's stay in a sanatorium in Beacon For the shownotes and sources, visit buriedsecretspodcast.com. A look at the haunting stories surrounding the mysterious ruins of a castle in the middle of the Hudson River. About 50 miles away from Manhattan, the ruins of a castle lie on a small island in the Hudson River. Travelers pass the ruins on the train, and the only clue to the history of the destroyed castle are the words "Bannerman's Island Arsenal," emblazoned on the side of the structure. The island, and the area, has a long history of hauntings, from its pre-colonial times, to the superstitions of Dutch sailors and stories of a legendary goblin king. Highlights include: • A ghost ship • A poem about the goblin king • An amateur architect • Exploding steamships • Old-timey sailor hazing For the shownotes and sources, visit buriedsecretspodcast.com.

The area, which once brimmed with factories, is now a quiet, small town, full of crumbling ruins of its past, spooky cemeteries, and deep woods.
