Sometimes our drive for perfection or being the best at everything is what is chipping away at our mental health until we reach that breaking point. In this episode, I am speaking with Has Al-Hasani. Has noticed that the things that brought him pride previously were no longer making him happy. He continued to "do well" in life but felt disconnected with the notion that playing ruby, drinking beer and driving the perfect car made him a "successful man". He wanted connection so he looked internally to find it and discovered the power of change though men's works. TRIGGER WARNING: In this episode, my guest and I discuss suicide ideation. If you need to pause or stop listening to this episode, please honour that. Thank you. HELL YEAR!! That is what this episode's guest, Rach Wilson, coined a particularly challenging year in her life. Having four children, her two youngest are both autistic and both of them are non verbal. With the autism came some health challenges for her son and to ease his pain, either Rach or her husband would drive him around and most days, they watched the sun rise. In addition to being sleep deprived from driving around all night, her youngest daughter became rageful and would attempt to self harm. As a Master Practitioner – Neuro Linguistic Programming, Hypnosis and Subconscious Re-Patterning, Results Coaching & Life Coaching Certified, FLOW & Manifesting Coaching, Mentor in Intuition & Business Development, Emotion Mastery Teacher and many many more certifications and degrees, Rach decided to take all her knowledge and teach families a survival guide for couples with neurodiverse kids! Bianca Hughes, LPC, shares that the unrealistic desire to be perfect exists in all of us and is at the root of many mental health difficulties. We discuss how perfectionism shows up differently for men and women. We also talk about how the pandemic has affected mental health. Bianca credits the slowed down pace of life with creating an increased demand for therapy as people come face-to-face with their inner perfectionist and are seeking help as a result. In addition to her therapy practice, Bianca hosts the “Authentic Wednesday Podcast” in which she invites guests to take off their perfectionism mask to talk about their real stories. Her goal is to help you peel back the layers to discover the treasure within you, authentically be you, and live a purpose-driven life. Today, I have her on the show to learn some fantastic facts about perfectionism. During our podcasts, you will discover:Loneliness is a sense of emptiness- 26:11“How do you think we can collectively solve this problem of loneliness? “I asked Bianca“In 2020, many people needed help and therapy as it was a difficult year for most of us. Even now, the clinics are full of people because of the pandemic. People are depressed as they have nowhere to go in such a situation, and hence they feel lonely and seek help. Sense of loneliness was seen high in the population. People should understand they could be with people and still feel lonely, and it is a feeling of being alone that comes from inside, so the answer is not to be with people unnecessarily. Loneliness may decrease confidence, and the person may feel that they aren't good enough. It's just a sense of emptiness in us; no external force affects loneliness, and people will have just to let go of that feeling”, she replied. Social Media and its Impacts-33:10“What do you think about social media and its impacts during the pandemic? “I asked her“It's a love-hate relationship; social media has been beneficial during the pandemic with all sources and helplines available online. People could even conduct online parties while sitting at their homes and enjoy themselves through social media. All the funny videos help to reduce stress as well.On the other hand, it also makes you feel lonely when you see a picture of a family or a couple while you are alone. Therefore, people should use social media wisely and remember that this is a one-moment picture, and it is not fair to compare themselves with strangers. The lower the self-esteem, the lower you will feel on social media. Every weekend I delete my account and also advise that my patients and relax for two days without any interruptions”, Bianca replied.Find out more intriguing things. “It's a beautiful gift to see my clients choosing courageous steps to set themselves free by being vulnerable to share their stories of shame and express their truth. As a result, my clients begin to accept themselves right where they are, despite their imperfections.”- Bianca Enjoy Listening! To know more about Bianca Hughes :Website : https://www.biancakhughes.com/

“Let's get this very clear: therapists are humans; humans are human. And, therefore, we experience the same things as our clients.” ~Bianca Hughes Perfectionism, professional pivots, and the privilege of creating space for healing. So many bases covered in this conversation with Bianca K. Hughes, LPC! Oh, and I haven’t even mentioned the cultural exchange insights - Bianca’s a British ex-pat residing in Atlanta (shout out OTP and ITP!) - or the book recommendation...or the NARM chitchat. If there’s a single overarching theme to this discussion, it’s sacred vulnerability. Bianca makes a case for living and practicing in the glory of our imperfections. As a first-gen Brit born to Caribbean parents, Bianca brings a multi-directional perspective to her Atlanta practice. Her style is less linear, outcome-driven. For her, healing is a circuitous journey she shares with her clients. She’s quick to let them know she’s not the ultimate oracle or guide. There’s a truism about therapists specializing in the areas where they need the work or have experienced the most growth. Bianca’s focus on perfectionism - and women, in particular, who struggle with its weight - is no accident. “Going back to that privilege,” she says, “...I think that specializing in perfectionism because of my own stuff, and I'm continuing to do my own work, helps me a lot easier with the clients that I work with.” Doing our work and sharing that knowledge is how therapists hold space for healing. *** Bianca is a lover of authenticity. She specializes in perfectionism, helping people embrace their imperfections and authentically be themselves. TITLE I Don’t Have Time For a Breakdown; I Don’t Need Help. I Can Do It Myself GUEST Bianca Hughes, LPC EPISODE OVERVIEW Bianca talks about women who feel overwhelmed, anxious, and they struggle with people-pleasing, overextending themselves, setting boundaries, and they believe that they have to figure it out for themselves, and that there is no time for emotions. This is called Black Superwoman Syndrome. We talk about its origins as well as cultural considerations. We talk about epigenetics, and how trauma gets passed down through generations; even when it isn’t talked about. GUEST BIO Bianca specializes in perfectionism, helping people embrace their imperfections and authentically be themselves. She helps clients work through concerns of self-worth, unhealthy relationships, identity, or feeling overwhelmed. Her approach within therapy is direct but open, meeting clients where they are, providing them freedom to change when they’re ready. She believes in empowering and equipping people with skills, tools, and resources they can utilize for life. In addition, her passion is to eliminate mental health stigmas, which are prevalent within the black community. As well as eliminating the gap between Christianity and therapy. Bianca is a licensed professional counselor in Georgia, podcast host, speaker and authenticity coach. PODCAST HOST Patricia is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Coach. Hello Rebel listener. I've decided to not release a new episode this week. I stand in solidarity with Black listeners, podcasters, healers, therapists, entrepreneurs, friends and family. I want to recommend something right now that's been so helpful to me as a white person who owns a business. Wherever you're listening to this right now, head to the podcast called That's Not How That Works. Hit play on their episode released on May 28th, 2020. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/thats-not-how-that-works/id1358150402 The podcast That's Not How That Works is always all about justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in the world of coaching and personal development. It's by two JEDI masters (meaning justice, equity, diversity and inclusion) who are also very close friends. This particular episode gives you a whole guide to some of their most important episodes. This is an excellent time for me as a white person to look at how my business supports or stands against white supremacy, and to make long term commitments. Now real quick, I'll recommend some podcasts by our Black colleagues. There are business coaches, healers, & other entrepreneurs in here. This list really barely scratches the surface. Check them out if you haven't already. This here podcast has changed a lot since I started it in the spring of 2017. My business has grown a lot, largely thanks to this podcast. I started this podcast as a way to reach more therapist entrepreneurs and give you inspiration and information about growing your business. I've found my voice more and more over the last 3 years. I've learned a ton about podcasting and I have discovered that I LOVE it. Since then I've gotten to support some of my clients in creating their own podcasts. Here are a few things I've learned about podcasting: You have to love your podcast. It can't just be for marketing purposes. If it is, you'll be bored. You won't grow an audience and you won't stick with it. You have to have a specific listener in mind. Even though your podcast is free, it helps to think of it as an offer within your business that offers real value to the listener. If your podcast is part of your business, you need a clear connection between what the podcast offers and what people can pay you for. The more clear and logical that connection is, the better. Your podcast has to be unique. That means you need to find your voice and provide value in a unique way. I realized right away that I'd need to figure out how to create something different. For me, that difference has come from interviewing folks about their own businesses, rather than interviewing business experts who will tell us what to do. If someone's not open to talking about what's happening behind the scenes in their own business, they're not a fit for this show. I myself am a business expert who tells people what to do at times. I'm not against that. For this podcast, however, I love giving you examples of folks who have created their own innovative and successful businesses. When you want to hear from business experts, I know you've got no shortage of other shows to listen to. OK, enough about me for today! I'll share more about my own lessons learned, but now I want you to hear from some other wonderful entrepreneurs. You're going to hear from 5 Rebel Therapists who dare to podcast. They're all leaders in creating unique and valuable podcasts. Introducing Asher Pandjiris, Bianca Hughes, Dr. Kelsey Harper, Marielle Berg, and Nick Venegoni. Each of them is sharing with us who their show is for, what it gives the listener, one thing they've learned in the process of creating their show, and how their podcast supports their business. Asher Pandjiris is the host of Living In This Queer Body, a podcast about barriers to embodiment and how our collective body stories can bring us back to ourselves. Bianca Hughes is the host of Authentic Wednesday, a podcast where she and her guests share their vulnerable, behind the scenes stories of giving themselves permission to take off their masks, let go of expectations, and embrace their own paths of freedom and authentic connection. Dr. Kelsey Harper is the host of Warrior Grrrl, which is still in development. It's podcast for survivors of sexual assault. It brings a candid and authentic conversation about all the different things that are impact survivors. Marielle Berg is the host of 2 podcasts: The Skillful Podcast, focusing on DBT skills, and It's Just A Cookie, for people struggling with food and body image issues, using a HAES and intuitive eating lens to help people heal from eating disorders, disordered eating, and food and body angst. Nick Venegoni is the host of Queer Spirit Podcast, a show for spiritually minded queer folks on a path of personal healing and transformation. Show notes at http://rebeltherapist.me/podcast/126
