What is on your mind lately that might be causing reoccurring pain and trauma in your life? Is there room for forgiveness? Why is it important for us to forgive? When we hold onto things and stay stuck in past emotions, we are robbing ourselves of moving forward, and allowing light in. Our minds are powerful. We might be experiencing mental blocks that are really preventing us from experiencing our life in its full glory. If we are constantly living in the past, we won't see what is ahead of us. Michelle provides listeners with some tangible ways to start a process of forgiveness.ALSO! Michelle shares some huge news about her first event this year! Over the last 18 months, our social lives have been impacted. We have likely made new connections but have lost connection to some of the most important people in our lives. We have been forced to grieve and manage this ever-changing life in ways that we (for the most part) were NOT ready for. My guest today is Michelle Wolfe, and she is one of those charming, inspiring, high vibrational women who just makes you feel good about yourself. And so as soon as we became friends, I wanted to share her light with you all. Michelle is all about building community, sharing struggles and working together to help you MUVE forward. Her own personal struggles, her trauma, her grief have all lead her down a very dark road that had difficult and challenging impacts on her life. However, she was on a mission to do “the work” and knew deep down that life was bigger than the way she was experiencing it. The foundation of her healing journey (and adapting to her ever-changing life) is to keep moving forward. Making one decision at a time, one move at a time, one step at a time. The idea is that we don't get stuck in the past or project ourselves into the future… We stay present and keep moving forward in this moment. Time moves, and thus, so must we. So Michelle created something called The Muve Collective, which is an online space for women to share their stories, learn from others, connect with each other and be inspired by stories of overcoming struggle. How cool is that? Health and Wellness is her passion, a self-care advocate, a motivator and beautiful thought leader and today's episode is a fun, inspiring and genuine chat about life, our struggles and what is all means. I think it's Michelle's goal in life to come together as strangers and leave as friends… so let's get into this episode so you can fall in love with her just like I did. Listen to the episode and find out more about Michelle at: http://www.themichellewolfe.com/ (www.themichellewolfe.com) Or on Instagram at: http://www.instagram.com/themichellewolfe (www.instagram.com/themichellewolfe)
On today's episode, I chat with Dr. Kate Hazlitt, a Naturopathic Doctor who helps women that are disconnected and burnt out to develop the grit and courage to reclaim their innate bliss.Kate describes burnout as a period of time when we neglect our truest selves. She believes we are hardwired for bliss - but our society and conditioning have us spending more time outside of ourselves than ever. This means we seek external validation instead of practicing self-compassion, and this is often where the problems initially lay. Dr. Hazlitt also touches on how our self-neglect will show up as physical symptoms and to treat what we notice, we must focus on what we cannot see!On this episode we dive into: Disconnection and burnout. How a connection to yourself allows for a more fulfilling life. How self-neglect manifests into physical symptoms. How to practice self-compassion.Setting boundaries.Rhythmic commitment. The take-home: Oftentimes we find ourselves going to the Doctors with symptoms like anxiety, chronic headaches, or skin conditions thinking that the problem we see is the problem, but Dr. Hazlitt describes though, how our self-neglect will show up as physical symptoms in our body. Dr. Hazitt's noticed in herself that her burnouts were cyclical. She would work hard for a long time and then as soon as she had holidays, she would fall ill. Upon noticing this pattern, she came to realize that her symptoms were due to her lack of self-compassion which resulted in her being “a mixed bag of hot mess”. Kate also said, “Most people know what they need to do, but they don't”. Meaning that too many of us neglect our deepest desires or our truest selves. But if you do the work, like I know many of you are, then you can identify the areas in which you need the most compassion! Every person walking this planet, including you, warriors, has the potential inside of you to harness and then practice, self-compassion. And this is exactly what you need to prevent yourself from the agony of burning out!Get in touch with Dr. Kate HazlittInstagram Handle: @drkatehazlittnd 8 week Program - Burnout to Bliss: https://goodearthnaturopathic.thrivecart.com/burnout-to-bliss-8-week-program/Today's sponsorswww.revivalbymartinandco.com Discount code MUVE15www.CupofTe.ca Discount code MUVE

Michelle talks about boundaries this week, in light of Mother's Day. After losing her Mother almost 30 years ago, this day has been a difficult one to celebrate. If you want to be a mother and can't, if you've lost your child or Mother and are grieving, if you have a difficult relationship with your mother and are healing, there can be a lot of triggers around this day for so many people. Michelle limits her exposure to social media, television and the outside world - these are her boundaries. On this episode we dive into: How setting boundaries is key to managing our mental wellnessBeing aware of our emotional mindset after interactions with others Being conscious of those who might not celebrate the same holidays as you doReducing exposure to our phone on certain days, as a way to set healthy boundaries Figuring out what our triggers are so that we can manage through difficult situations and set boundaries with others The Take Home:Social media, television shows, music, your co-workers and conversations with others, all impact our well-being. Be aware of how you feel in these areas of your life. Is there tension in your physical body? Are your thoughts overcome with negativity? If you have an uncomfortable calling from your gut when it comes to certain people, places or things, but you haven't put boundaries in place, this is your inspiration to make changes now. Muve on from people with grace and protect your emotional self from becoming even more depleted.Advice: Make a list of what feels good or uncomfortable after certain interactions, pay attention to your mental and physical self and be very conscious. You can completely eliminate or limit your exposure, there are many ways to set healthy boundaries. The Come Together Mastermind has launched this week with the @muvecollective and Shelby Hayle. A recap on her big news from last weeks' episode, Michelle is finalizing the completion of her massage therapy career. She is thrilled that her episode resonated with all of you, and found solace in shifting in their own lives too. We allow things to come in and out of our lives everyday, without even being conscious of it. Sometimes we end up creating energetic blocks that keep us stagnant where we are, especially if we feel very comfortable in that space. On this episode we dive into: Feeling noticed and validated is important. That is why Michelle shares her life openly with you, in hopes that it resonates with youAcknowledging something that you might need to let go of, or change and shiftReleasing fear and limitations surrounding your longer terms goals and dreams Knowing that even if our big decisions don't always work out in the way we've planned, it's still aligning us closer to our longer term goalsThe Take Home:Empty out physical space in your home as a visual invitation for something or someone new in your life. Michelle draws on the tie between our physical and energetic states and ask you to get very clear on what you truly want. There is empowerment in making big decisions, for ourselves. Feel your true desires deep in your bones and have the faith to step into who you're supposed to be. What would you do with your life if you weren't afraid? On today’s episode, I chat with David Brooke. David is an international model who has worked for many high-profile designers such as Giorgio Armani, Guess by Marciano, and Calvin Klein. Through his experience working as a model, David saw the impacts that general skincare routines had on his skin and decided there needed to be a change. To further his career and education, he obtained his degree in business and partnered with the oldest established organic skincare line in North America, Skin Essence. He is excited to share on this episode exactly why he made his skincare a priority so that you can too! On this episode we dive into: How David went from modeling to becoming a part of a skincare line. The differences between conventional and organic skincare. How chemicals and preservatives can lead to premature aging. Why oils are better than cream for your skin. The effects of nutrition on your skin. The take-home: From things like the ascorbic acids in skincare products - to the plastic containers they’re packaged in - there is so much we need to be aware of when it comes to our skincare products. Finding out what exactly it is that you are putting on your skin every day is important not only for your health but your wallets too! David explains why oils are better for our skin than creams and how using organic ingredients is the only way to go, especially if you’re working on living a chemical-free lifestyle! Healthy skin starts with taking a look at not only the ingredients in the food you eat but also the products you use! Have you ever gotten to a stage in your life where you looked back and thought, “wow, if I had only known that before this would have been so much easier!” This is common, and has likely happened to us all at one point or another, but the important thing to remember is that these lessons come with time and we learn them exactly when we are meant to! Because I love to share my passion for living a healthy and happy life with others, in today’s episode, I’m sharing the things I wish my younger self would have known! On this episode we dive into: 1. Storms pass so hang in there: hard times coming your way in life is inevitable, but always remember that through each storm is a lesson you’re meant to learn to help you grow. 2. Be grateful for every day that you have: you truly never know when it’s going to be your last. 3. Don’t take criticism from people you wouldn’t go to for advice: especially from social media!! 4. Let go of anger and grudges: this is unnecessary stress on your body that can cause long term harm if left unresolved! 5. No one will believe in you if you don’t believe in yourself: you know that old saying, ‘fake it til’ you make it’ - do it! Even if you don’t truly believe in yourself right now, the more you act like you do, the quicker your mind and thoughts will eventually match up to this vision! 6. Be careful what you wish for: your words are strong, and they can speak into existence - so just be mindful of this! 7. Know what you want: so that you can manifest those desires more quickly. 8. Focus on the good in every situation: what you focus on, is ultimately more of what will come into your life. If you focus on the good for example, you will attract more good! 9. Happiness is a choice: What can you do that would bring you joy right now? Go do that! 10. Your health is more fragile than you think: give your body the love that it so desperately wants and deserves. 11. Most of the things you fear in life, usually never happen: don’t waste your time worrying about the things you do not have control over. 12. Work smarter not harder: instead, get creative and find ways that you can grow without completely exhausting yourself in the process. The take-home: Pay attention to the things that fill you with joy, and to the lessons that are meant to be learned through a challenging time in your life. We only have one life to live (as far as we know), so live a little easier and life will go easy on you. In today’s episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Vanessa Rempel, a proud wife and mama of three, a successful career woman, and a fighter. She inspires women all around the world by sharing her story and other women’s stories of their trials and tribulations in hopes of helping to change other people’s lives through connection and understanding. Vanessa lost her mom to Cancer in 1987 when she was just 11 years old. Her father was not present in her life at the time, and she was placed in a home with distant family members to be her care takers, who were neither supportive nor kind. When she turned 16, she was legally allowed to leave their care, and so she did. Vanessa has an incredible story of how she preserved through this time on her own and then growing her career single-handedly with her inspiring drive and passion - you don’t want to miss it! On this episode we dive into: Using specific memories or moments in your life to propel you through a hard time. Using creative outlets to feel better. Turning your passion in life into a career - and how you can start doing this today! How to tap into your own local market for business. How important it is to be in unity with those you surround yourself with and then using this energy to further uplift them and yourself. Letting go of the feeling of embarrassment and shame about your story. Why it’s important to share our stories so that future generations will have a better understanding of not feeling alone or avoiding/ diving into a certain path. The take-home: If you are ready for a change in your life, here’s what Vanessa wants you to know: “JUST BEGIN. Get out of your head and start DOING. Looking for the people that are already at the place you dream to be. How did they get there? What was their path? And then figure out what your path would look like, and just start. It’s so easy to destroy the plans in your mind before you even do anything about them because we are all so critical of ourselves. You have to put yourself out there and take chances. There is no reason why someone else can succeed at the thing that you want, and you can’t. You can do anything. Anything is possible and ANYBODY can achieve anything. Cut through the fear and go for it.” Get in touch with Vanessa: Website: https://www.herstoriesco.com Instagram, Tik-Tok, Twitter: @herstoriesco Be sure to submit a review for The Move Forward Podcast before the end of June to be entered to win a $100 gift card to Cup of Te! We sit down with DJ Muve for an hour and half to talk about everything happening in the world today: protests, quarantine, music, systematic issues, and just life in general. An absolutely amazing interview with one of the best guys we know.
Today, I sit down with wellness and accountability coach and the founder of Muve Life, Michelle Wolfe. Michelle was born and raised in Mitchell, Ontario and after the unfortunate passing of her mother, she became obsessed with health and wellness and becoming the best version of herself. She became an RMT and grew her own business, Muve Life, where she shares health tips to help inspire others to live a healthy life. After a series of struggles in later years, she decided to start her own podcast called Muve Forward, which interviews people who have been able to find the growth in their own struggles. Today, we sit down to discuss how she has been able to use her own struggles to focus on her wellness and help others heal their bodies from the inside out. Wszystkie były projektowane. Nasz gość wiedział co chce robić, miał określony cel, do którego dążył. Jednym z nich było studiowanie na ASP. Osiągnął to, co sobie założył. On today’s podcast, I had the pleasure of interviewing Kristina Bothmer; a trained Children’s Yoga and Mindfulness Instructor and a teacher to elementary students in grade 1/2. Kristina is extremely passionate about sharing her mind and mindfulness practices with her students. She uses these practices daily for her own mental health, and now she uses them for her littles as well. Perhaps this episode will inspire you to incorporate more mindfulness into your day-to-day and your little one’s day-to-day as well! Kristina does everything in her life with passion. Her love for bringing mindfulness into the classroom stemmed from her own college professor starting their classes this way. At the time, not many people bought into it - but Kristina said she saw the value immediately and put her passionate personality to work to bring this practice to life for her students. She believes she’s in her position as a teacher to inspire children every day and to help them reconnect to themselves. Kristina has created a space in her classroom where parents, other educators, and most importantly the children, feel loved and safe. She feels that (as teachers) “We have a responsibility to teach our kids.” - and for her, this means so much more than just teaching the curriculum. It’s teaching the curriculum, but going above and beyond that to ensure the children are getting the most out of their learning experience. Kristina always starts the school year off in September with teaching the children a lot about the brain and how it works, breathing and different breathing techniques, and mindfulness and what mindfulness means - because for many of the children, this is new material and a new concept for them. Throughout the school year, they practice various activities to help calm their brains and bodies. She uses the term “the wise owl” with the children to explain what the prefrontal cortex of our brain does for us; it helps us to make good choices and to help us through tough situations. She also uses the term “guard dog” to help explain the part of our brain called the amygdala which is the fight or flight part of our decision making process. They use these terms to learn the concept of the wise owl helping to calm their guard dog down when they are feeling emotionally overwhelmed. Closing words: “Be intentional as you can be about the choices that you make, and the people that you bring into your life. Know that you can keep going long after you feel that you can’t; we are a lot braver and stronger than we like to give ourselves credit for. Always be growing and always be grateful - and most importantly be okay with going at your own pace, I am.” - Kristina Bothmer Get in touch with Kristina Instagram: @livinglifeatmyownpace Notes from this Episode: Muve Forward Episode # 72 with Anna and Lindy of Love Powered Co.: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/72-affirming-greatness-within-you-anna-lindy-from-love/id1448774437?i=1000451794734 Get some organic tea with Cup of Te: https://cupofte.ca and use discount code: MUVE for 15% off. Today I’m answering all of YOUR questions that you had for me! My current career path feels like a dream, and many people ask me how I got here - how I knew what I wanted to do etc., so I’m laying it all out on the line for you below! I love helping others to find their why - their purpose in life - and then implementing the steps they need to get there. Let’s dive in warrior! Question # 1: How does your coaching program work? The most important thing to note here is that my program is not designed to be a "one size fits all" type of program. Instead, it is specifically designed custom to each client based on their current needs and desires. In general, it is a 90-day program with three different stages. Within these 90 days, we have six one on one sessions talking together about the stage you’re currently in, what your specific needs are, and how to tackle that. We start by diving into what you're hoping to get out of the program in areas such as health and wellness, life goals, relationship goals, career goals, etc. The homework and tasks you are assigned in between our meetings is specifically created for you and your needs. The way that we get there is always different for every person and we work as a team to figure out what you need to move forward. Question # 2: How long is the program? The program is designed to be 90 days, but this can vary depending on the client and how much time they need. Some people like to follow up biweekly, others like weekly communication to accelerate their results, and some prefer to slow it down. It's all based on your own personal needs, where you’re at, and how much time you need to process the material. Question # 3: Who is the program for? The program is for males or females of all ages; people who are looking for - and are ready for - a change in their lives. Any type of change; relationship, career, health, monetary, shifting perspective, healing, etc. Question # 4: How many hours a week do I dedicate to this passion? It depends on what I'm up to each week. Sometimes one hour each day, sometimes more, sometimes less. You are going to get out of it what you put into it. Question # 5: What is your dream career? It's always sort of changed but event planner, or travel the world and write about it - seemed to always be on my list. But, I truly feel that what it is that I'm doing and creating right now, is my dream job. There are certainly new levels that I want to reach within what I'm creating, but in general, this is my dream career. I want to help others and be in the space of health and wellness. Question # 6: What's on your bucket list? I have always wanted to go on a trip to Disney, or to a resort, or rent a family beach house by the water and bring all of my family. I want to pay for us all to vacation together! I would also personally like to travel to New Zealand, go surfing, and I would love to have a MUVE clothing line. Question # 7: Do you treat yourself when you succeed at a financial goal? Yes! When I make a certain amount of money through my coaching clients, I want to treat my boyfriend and I to a spa day! I also love buying fitness clothes. When I make a certain amount of money or I make a goal and reach that within my own body or movements, I will treat myself to a new comfy athletic outfit! Question # 8: what’s my favourite thing about your current career path? My favourite thing is being able to make my own hours and go on a holiday whenever I want to. But mostly, having the chance to connect with and meet so many new, amazing people and help others grow! On this episode we have two djs who have solidified themselves in the Philadelphia nightlife scene. We cover everything from music, mixing, producing, social media & content.
Dr. Danielle McGinnis graduated from Physical Therapy School in May 2018. Throughout her schooling years, she built a strengthening and conditioning company in pursuit of her passion of thinking outside of the box to be her best self, thus helping her clients reach their full potential as well. She explains that she always felt she was being held back by the social norm of what she was “supposed to do” with her degree following graduation. It wasn’t until she had many coaches help her, that she gave herself permission to become the Physical Therapist (she refers to herself as an Integrative Movement Doctor) that she really wanted to be. The first thing she did on her journey was investing in a course to help open her eyes to what her values and beliefs systems were. Before this, she didn’t even know what she wanted or needed in life and so she was accepting what she had, even though she knew it wasn’t what she wanted. She was addicted to living in a false reality because it was comfortable. Throughout the course and the work with her coaches, she started to see the changes she was making reflecting in her results and began implementing the concepts she was learning in her life - in her patients lives. She shares, your ego hates to be seen as a failure, so you will do things in your life to make sure that you keep yourself small, so that you don’t fail; a lot of this is unconscious. So what in your life was modelled that made you stay small? Then you need to see that this is someone else’s story - not your own. We do things because we have this deep-rooted fear that when we do the thing we have a fear that were not actually going to be the person we want to be. Give yourself credit for all of the things we go through and all of the courage it takes to do certain things. Once you start to think more and more positive thoughts, you can start confirming this through validation within. As this becomes a normal practise, you can begin to live with integrity and ride the wave of momentum; you can (and will) always have set backs, but keep riding the momentum wave forward through it. Over the past year, Danielle has moved past her own limiting beliefs to then mirror this for her clients so that they feel they can make the changes too. She created Alpha Femme, Human Healing and Optimization and helps women dive into their limiting beliefs around movement. The “Alpha” encompasses strengthening, conditioning, and recovery principles; this is the masculine/ doing/ setting goals energy - and the “Femme” brings in more of the healing, integrative, and the emotional side and dives into learning how to let this flow. She strives then to have the two parts; Alpha and Femme come together in harmony to optimize human functioning. On today’s podcast, we’re talking to Matthew Zanis. Matthew is many things, and amongst those, he has a Doctorate of Physical Therapy and is a strength and conditioning coach out of Phoenix, Arizona, but he pride’s himself in being a human movement expert. He is also an Orthopaedic Specialist and a manual therapy fellow – of which there are only 33 people in the entire country (USA) with that designation. His main passion and goal in life is to overhaul the way that physical movement education is being educated towards our rehabilitation providers; so, our physical therapists, chiropractors, athletic trainers, and osteopaths. He helps his clients to achieve their goals by helping them move better and ultimately helps them live a better quality of life. He started his own Physical Theory practice back in 2016, and since then it allowed him to do contract work with the United States Olympic Comity. He also works with athletes from all levels of the spectrum of life from high school, all the way to collegiate athletes as well as with many cancer patients by incorporating movement and physical training into the plan of care for these patients, which is it's not being done anywhere else. The problem that he sees in many people is that they will go to treatment, but then they don’t continue to move and it becomes a constant repetitive cycle over and over again. When you start to move the body, you get a flow of oxygen and then things start to happen; we look better, we feel better and move better as well. We've become so enamored with this thought of exercise and functional fitness that we've forgotten how to move. If people started to just move more throughout the day, we wouldn't have a lot of these pathological issues that are occurring. Exercise is a subset of movement and it comes down to the attention and the intention of the movement that you're doing. Learn how to become more aware of your body and how to feel into that. Start with your breath. First thing in the morning before you get out of bed or do anything else, take a moment to just breathe. Feel your body and check-in and see how it's feeling. What are your thoughts for that day and then set an intention for that day? Ask yourself: What is it that I want to accomplish that day in my personal life, professional life and then with movement? Choose a movement that you love doing and something that makes you feel good. It’s also important to be 100% in tune with your body. Every ache and pain you experience is a message your body is trying to send to you to move differently and that's exactly what pain is. Our movement throughout the day and the things that we feel – all of these things are just neurological inputs into the brain which we have control over. Here's the signal of pain or tightness - you have to move differently. Do things differently than you currently are and if you don’t have a place to start, get a coach who can help you. Credentials: Matthew Zanis, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT, OCS, ATC, CSCS, Cert-DN Director of Rehabilitation and Performance, Causenta Wellness Physical Therapist, United States Olympic Committee, USA Shooting Director, Orthopedic Physical Therapist Assistant Program, NxtGen Institute of Physical Therapy Fellow, American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists Power Athlete Block One Coach www.causenta.com www.powerathletehq.com www.usashooting.com Go to www.atlasbars.com to try my new obsession Atlas Protein Bars. Today I am chatting with one of Toronto’s Real housewives, Roxy Earle. Roxy is a TV personality, model, fashion designer, and body activist who is making her message heard loud and clear in the media. Roxy has a personal brand called My Size Rox which is inspiring generations of girls to feel good about themselves no matter what size they are. Roxy works with brands such as H&M, Knix, Le Chateau, Joe Fresh, Columbia, and so many others to educate them on the importance of including more of a range of sizes so all women can be included. Today she shares more about her business, the reality of body shaming and how she’s sharing body positivity to inspire the world. In the past year, Roxy’s Father passed away from cancer, and she talks about how his death was one last gifts he gave to her to teach her that life is precious and should be lived. This girl has a powerful voice and she’s using it to help so many other women who may not have the confidence to make the changes in society. Roxy shares that there was a moment that happened on television where she was being interviewed and everyone kept asking her how it felt to be the first plus-size housewife. She remembers responding with, “I am not plus size, I’m my size and my size rocks.” Following this statement, thousands of people reached out to her thanking her for representing them; they felt important because they could finally identify and relate to someone. She is now proud to be part of a group of women who are shifting the paradigms and conversations forward about size in the media. The biggest culprit in not feeling good is often people’s own voice; we are our own worst critics. Speak to yourself as you would to your best friend. You have to love yourself and be kind to yourself and speak kindly to yourself if you want to feel good things about yourself. Start from within - every time you have a negative thought about yourself, say out loud to yourself, STOP - and correct that thinking. The more positively you think about yourself, the more you will believe it and the more confident you will become. On today’s episode, I’m talking all about leaving behind your previous life; your struggles, your trauma, and even the perception of what other people think of you. Our past experiences, both good and bad, are certainly a part of what has gotten us to where we are today - but they no longer serve us to help us to reach our goals and journey moving forward. It is a valuable piece of our lives and has helped to shape our personalities and who we are. However, we also want to remember that holding onto past pains, tragedy, loss, or abuse can keep you trapped in anger and sadness and can prevent you from growing. We can’t change what has already happened, but we can learn from our past and use that to be a better person. Your past is your past and can be left behind you. Another form of living in the past can show up as holding on to stories of what others have told you, and what you have told yourself of who you’re supposed to be. You know the ones, the idea that you are or should be a certain person. Trying to live up to the mold of who people think you are, can be exhausting. It can be difficult to leave this behind and allow a newer version of you to shine but know that it’s okay to let go of the expectations and leave who you “are supposed to be” behind you. Let go of what is not serving you and making you feel good - you have the right to release them to grow into who you want to be. How many hours a day do you spend thinking about the “when’s” in your life? When will this happen for me? When will it be Friday again? The more time you spend thinking about the “when’s,” the more of the “now” you miss out on. Be mindful of your thoughts. Are you living in the past or the future? Shift into the now. Your future self will likely thank you!! Life is meant to be enjoyed in the moment. Our “now” moments are what create memories, and the memories are what creates the stories of our lives. Understand that what is meant to be, will be. All of the life lessons, the memories, and the hard times that come your way, are meant for you. Whether you spend time worrying about them or not, they are for you. Instead of stressing, choose to let it go. Live in the now. I for one am ready to not waste any more of my nows, who’s with me? Guilt is an emotion that most of us have had. It’s normal to have some feelings of guilt but it’s when it becomes the main focus in your day to day is where it may start to have some negative effects on your life. Guilt has been showing up lots in my world and for my clients, so on today’s Podcast Episode I’m talking about the different ways guilt can manifest and positive ways to tackle it. Shortly after my Mom passed away, I was obsessed with researching food and how disease can manifest if we consume certain things. I felt guilty for not having known this information sooner. This guilt would consume me when I was feeling sad or angry for not having my Mom here with me in the physical world. It gave me something to blame when I was feeling upset; as if I needed a reason or answer why she wasn’t in my physical world anymore … and so I blamed myself. Looking back, it’s so clear how unrealistic these thoughts were - as an 8-year-old, how could I possibly have known the exact information she needed to beat her cancer? The blame I had was real though, and I am thankful that I didn’t let it fester and create anger deep enough to change my whole life. I started to understand that the blame was not realistic. Grieving is a process that can happen for many years - even a lifetime - after tragedy. So, we need to be patient while we process all of these emotions, but also be mindful of how it can affect us and those around us if we don’t do something about it. Suggestions to help Limit the Feeling of Guilt Talk to someone about it: a friend, a family member, a therapist; someone who can listen and someone who you can trust to give you some positive feedback on why you’re feeling that way. Journal about what you’re feeling when you’re feeling it, and why you think that’s coming up for you. Speak your guilty feelings and thoughts surrounding them as if you were telling them to someone you love, or even to a younger child. You see, it’s always easy to be hard on ourselves, but most words we utter to ourselves, we wouldn’t dare say to someone we loved. Treat yourself as you are your own best friend and be kind to yourself. It’s easy to criticize and be hard on ourselves but put things into perspective; if someone you love were to tell you how guilty they felt for something out of their control, you would certainly tell them not to worry and that it wasn’t their fault! Try this with yourself. And if you truly have feelings of guilt for wrong doing you know you did, learn from your mistakes. Guilt in times like this comes to us so that we know how to do things differently next time, but move forward in the now. So no matter where your guilt stems from, let it go. Let go of the toxic emotions holding you back from living and enjoying your life. It is up to you to decide to release yourself from the guilt. Let it go so you can MUVE forward from feeling the guilt.
