Is the Bitcoin-Dollar theory a path to salvation or destruction for the US currency? Stablecoin issuers have become major buyers of US bonds, and political figures have flipped the script to embrace Bitcoin. BlackRock's spot Bitcoin ETF launch was highlighted in an interview with CEO Larry Fink on CNBC. Fink, who had previously expressed skepticism about Bitcoin, now views it as a viable asset class, though not a potential currency. This change of stance aligns with BlackRock's broader strategy of embracing technological advancements in the financial sector, mainly through ETFs and the eventual tokenization of financial assets. In his CNBC interview after the historic first day of trading for BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF, Fink revealed a notable transformation in his perception of Bitcoin. "This brings us to our fourth principle behind PoS, which is that **PoS relies on subjective truth**. There is simply no objective way to pick between two competing blockchains, and any new nodes to the network must ultimately trust some existing source of truth to resolve any ambiguity. This contrasts significantly with Bitcoin, where the “true” chain is always the one with the most work. It doesn't matter if a thousand nodes are telling you chain X, if a single node broadcasts chain Y and it contains more work, then Y is the correct blockchain. A block's header can prove its own worth, completely removing the need for trust." - Scott Sullivan With "The Merge" on everyone's mind, going through the specific mechanisms that make Proof of Stake "work" can be a very useful exercise. Especially when considering how things can go wrong, and where there is ultimately subjectivity in the consensus mechanism that sheds light on how certain disputes would fall in the politically tumultuous world we live in today. It isn't just that PoS is different than PoW, it's that many of their core principles are polar opposites of each other, and therefore they cannot accomplish the same goal.
In this episode of Bitcoin Magazine's Fed Watch podcast, CK and I had the opportunity to sit down and have an epic conversation with Log Scale of twitter, and host of The Bitcoin Spot series of Twitter Spaces, and new YouTube channel. This episode is a big white pill for those down about the recent price dip and who think of the US as an evil empire. We get into many aspects of institutional client money coming into bitcoin this year, and why the US is likely to be one of the most friendly bitcoin jurisdictions in the future. Fed Watch is a podcast for people interested in central bank current events. Bitcoin will consume central banks one day, understanding and documenting how that is happening is what we are about here at Fed Watch. A Valuation Model for Bitocin Log Scale had a very interesting Twitter thread several weeks ago. The first part of this episode is him laying out the arguments he made there. Corporate treasuries diversifying into bitcoin has been a major source of optimism in bitcoin over the last year or two, but Log says they are only 2% of all investable wealth in the world. Signs are starting to shift toward the other $500 trillion are looking at bitcoin, too. You can find estimates for total investable wealth from several sources. Log cites Credit Suisse in this episode and McKinsey in his tweet thread. Both have a multi-hundred trillion dollar estimate. Of course, every dollar that is used to buy bitcoin is not going to have a 1:1 effect on the bitcoin market cap. The multiplier is not a steady variable, the Bank of America has estimated it at 107x, but in his conservative valuation model, Log uses 3x. Now, what his model needs is an estimate for the amount of money that will come into bitcoin. For this he draws from the very well-respected Ric Edelman's 2022 predictions for bitcoin. He is “Edelman, one of the most prominent thought leaders in the investment advisory field and founder of Edelman Financial Engines.” Nearly all of his 2021 predictions proved correct, and this year he has some big ones. He says that by the end of the year, 1) 1/3rd of Americans will own bitcoin, and 2) financial advisors will be recommending between 3-5% allocation to bitcoin. With those numbers, Log's valuation model is just a matter of plugging in the numbers, yielding a result that the bitcoin market cap could increase by $11 trillion this year. Gensler and Why the US will be Friendly to Bitcoin The next part of the podcast might be controversial. We spend some time discussing Gary Gensler and possible reasons behind his appointment as Chairman of the SEC at such a pivotal time, with such a clear pro-bitcoin bias. Most people think that the US government will fight bitcoin adoption, but Log Scale explains why they aren't special, bitcoin's incentives work on regulators the exact same way as everyone else. As an aside, we see that blatantly in the Ukraine and Russia at the moment, with friendly bitcoin policies coming about due to the rich and powerful there owning a lot of bitcoin. If the US government is worried about losing its supposed currency advantage, it's easy enough for them to buy bitcoin and back the dollar. If the choice is between losing global dominance of the dollar or buying bitcoin, that is an easy choice. There is no downside for the US government. The other option, fight it and impose sanctions, on top of being politically unpopular with the 1/3rd of Americans that will own bitcoin, it risks losing. Back to Gensler. Log Scale tells us that Gensler is a big admirer of Satoshi and taught a course on bitcoin/blockchain at MIT prior to becoming Chairman of the SEC. The one outstanding qualification Gensler had over other options for the SEC was that he is an expert and the lover of bitcoin. Q&A about Powell and Fed Policy At the end of the show, Log Scale and CK had to leave, but there was still a few minutes to fill on the Livestream segment, before the next guest came on. This gave me a great opportunity to answer some questions from the Livestream host Q about Powell, their likely policy path this year, and other topics around central banking. It is a recurring theme of questions I receive that people think the Fed is going to crash the market by raising interest rates. However, the powerful insight is that the markets are in control, not the Fed. The Fed's job is to predict where the market will be in 6-12 months, sometimes 24 months, and position a narrative for their monetary policy to be ahead of that move. The most they can do is try to mold market sentiment. If their monetary tools actually worked as they are believed to, through concrete quantitative effects, they wouldn't need such tailored and precise language, and there wouldn't be so much confusion on the path of inflation or the economy. The Fed could just adjust the dials to get the economy they wanted. That's not the case. Listen to the end to get more truth bombs on what's coming in 2022 from the Fed. That does it for this week. Thanks to the watchers and listeners. If you enjoy this content please SUBSCRIBE, and REVIEW on iTunes, and SHARE!

This is the second of our two consecutive episodes about cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and digital finance. You don't need to have listened to the first of these with Ethan Lou in order to get out a lot of this one – at the same time, we do recommend you listen to it. In it, we covered the ‘wild west' of the cryptocurrency world. Today, we continue to talk about the risks and opportunities in this space, but our focus turns to the present and future of these technologies – including other uses of blockchain, stablecoins, and even a prediction or two. I am delighted to bring to you my conversation with Dante Disparte. Dante is a global leader in harnessing risk and emerging technologies to improve economic competitiveness and resilience. He is currently the Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Global Policy at Circle. Circle is a digital financial services firm, which among other things, has built the US dollar coin (USDC). Prior to this, Dante was a founding executive at the Diem Association. Diem (previously known as Libra) is the blockchain payment system of Meta (formerly known as Facebook of course). Dante was also a member of the USA's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). You may also be familiar with his name as he co-authored Global Risk Agility with Daniel Wagner, a frequent guest on All Things Risk. We get into a fair bit in this conversation, including: The risks and opportunities of crypto and blockchain, which include Dante's take on his former professor Nassim Taleb (author of The Black Swan)'s prediction that Bitcoin goes to zero. Dante has great respect for Taleb but disagrees with this particular take; Stablecoins and what Dante calls “digitally-enabled and secure networks”, including some interesting applications for these technologies; Geopolitics and cryptocurrencies; What the future holds; A lot more! Show notes: Dante's website Dante on Twitter Circle The US Dollar Coin (USDC) Nassim Taleb's take on Bitcoin Yuval Noah Harari and Sapiens Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) and fraud Our conversation with Oliver Bullough on “Moneyland” “How Robert Mueller Used Bitcoin to Catch Russia” The Diem / Libra project The potential use of blockchain to speed up insurance payments following disasters “Is America Losing the Digital Currency Race” – Dante's piece in Project Syndicate Web 3.0 Our episode on Global Risk Agility with Daniel Wagner Our episode with Ethan Lou, author of “Once a Bitcoin Miner” _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Like what you heard? The theme this week on the One Minute Retirement Tip podcast is: 5 inspiring quotes about money and investing. Today's quote comes from Abraham Lincoln. He said: “A lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client.” I like this quote because: Too many people try to DIY everything from house flipping to cleaning their gutters to managing your finances. The problem when you don't hire a professional is that you have blind spots and biases and that can do some serious damage. Whether it's cleaning your gutters or drafting your estate plan or doing your taxes or planning for your retirement, I'm a big believer in hiring the best help you can afford. Not everyone can pay top dollar for the best professionals, but there's a reason why the wealthy people do it and don't DIY - it's because they know they're going to be better off in the long-run by just focusing on what they do best, and outsourcing everything else they can. I've seen some pretty dramatic mistakes made when people try to DIY it with their money. These mistakes can be costly and irreversible. That's the real danger here. If I try to DIY a kitchen backsplash and it looks like my 3 year old did it. That's ok. I will have wasted money and will have to spend even more money having it fixed by a professional, but it's reversible. Most money mistakes can't be reversed, so I encourage you to pay for the best help you can afford, which is different for everyone. If you have more than $500,000 in your investment portfolio, then you can probably afford a financial advisor who can manage your money for you, and provide financial advice that's tailored to you. Their expertise will likely far outweigh their fee in the long run because they are not just picking your investments. They're looking at the big picture, rebalancing your portfolio, helping you make the right social security decision, keeping you invested when the stock market is in freefall, and not letting you invest in Bitocin at $60,000, and a lot more. That's it for today. Thanks for listening! "If any of these forks had meaningfully gained ground relative to Bitcoin, the critics would have had a point. What's the point of a monetary network which is undergoing a constant state of fragmentation?" - Nic Carter Another great article from Nic and this one is right in line with the second episode of Shitcoin Insider, also now available for a deep dive into the sad state of Bitcoin forks! They said it would dilute Bitcoin, they claimed it would prove Bitcoin was, in fact, not scarce, but as infinite as any digital database that can be replicated over and over again. But what came of the forks? Did they really dilute the value and core attributes of the Bitocin network? Nic lays it all out in another excellent article at Coindesk.com. Don't miss it! Check out the original to find Nic's other works and numerous great graphics and charts to illustrate his argument: https://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-trounces-bch-bsv-fork-wannabes The mempool is nearly empty again!
Joel & Travis discover the first blockchain-based social media site they believe has a chance at real adoption. This episode sets the stage for what’s to come as they go down the EOS Voice rabbit hole.
In this episode Ahmed and Aniket speak to Sandeep Nailwal, COO of Matic Network. Matic Network is a Layer 2 scaling solution for decentralised blockchain networks. The hosts explore why Matic exists, how they’re implementing Layer 2 solutions and what the platform is all about. Sandeep in a nutshell explains how important it is to solve the biggest problems in the space; scalability and UX. The Challenges 1. Current blockchain networks have a big problem in scaling due to its decentralised nature and that for mass adoption current blockchain networks will not be able to service millions of users. When it comes to UX and usability of blockchain’s the biggest problems lie in the technical nature of using blockchain. The ultimate goal is that when users interact, they wouldn’t know that they are really interacting with blockchain networks. From a developer standpoint, they are also providing easy tools for developers to develop applications on top of Matic which would allow scalability for Dapps and ultimately lower fees as well. Layer 1 and Layer 2 Sandeep goes into the differences between Layer 1 and Layer 2 in blockchain networks and how they behave respectively. Sandeep explains that Layer 1 is all about economic considerations where there is a trade-off between security and scalability which is commonly seen in networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum. The higher the security the lower the scalability and thus inherently slow. Ahmed quotes Vitalik’s Scalability trilemma where if you had scalabilty, decentralisation and security, you can only choose two of these three. Most, if not all Layer 1 blockchain networks, they choose decentralisation and security. In Layer 2, since you have Layer 1 to rely on which is security and decentralisation, then through cryptographic mechanisms you can get the same features on layer 2 as well as adding the scalability in layer 2 which is not included in layer 1. Make sure to listen to the episode to hear how Matic network is building out this innovative Layer 2 solution they are creating. Difference between Matic and others Matic’s solution is highly inspired by the Plasma implementation that was put forward by Vitalik Buterin and Joseph Poon. Plasma is one of the first layer 2 frameworks out there in the market. Here Sandeep explains how they are implementing layer 2 differently from Plasma, briefly explaining how they are implementing an account-based system rather than the UTXO system which is used by Plasma. Make sure to tune in to find out more! Sandeep explains how Matic is different from competitors such as Loom Network and Skale. He also goes into how they are improving developer experience since Matic is built on Ethereum, Ethereum developers are automatically Matic developers and thus it is easy to migrate to the layer 2 Matic is providing. Crypto in India Aniket who has been researching the Indian blockchain space is curious to see how Matic are operating in India given they are an Indian team. Sandeep explains the structure of Matic and where they are based and states that their research team is based in India. He also goes to talk about the current regulatory landscape of crypto in India and believes that India will not ban crypto. The Matic token and tokenomics Ahmed asks about the token mechanism of Matic network and Sandeep answers that their token is a network token which is used to keep the network secure and to have the token in order to use the Matic network. Therefore, like most blockchain’s such as Bitocin and Ethereum and other protocol layers a native token is used for transaction fees. Additionally, Matic is a proof of stake system which requires a token to govern and secure the network thus a native asset is necessary to secure and incentivise network participants to keep honest, like how most blockchains currently are. Thus, the token has two utilities: used for transaction fee and used for staking. Is Matic doing an ICO? Sandeep explains that they are looking to do an ICO and shares his plans on doing a large public sale on the back of recently completing a small private sale. They have an amazing announcement soon so do make sure to keep your eyes peeled. We hope you enjoy!!! The three put forth their view of the cutting edge investments and leave us with revolutionary takeaways. The trio help demystify the complexity of both Blockchain and Cryptocurrency.Show Notes:● 00:48—Introduction ofFintech Conference in Ontario--Details are avaiable on Jason´s linkedin profile.● 4:23—Introduction of the panel who will be discussing cryptocurrencies and blockchain. Kyle J Kemper, David Hase, and Jason Pereira speak as part of the panel.● 7:52—To be so sure about whether your coffee is fairtrade, you need data and a secure system to verify it. A solution that can do this is Blockchain. Blockchain can manage all of our data, and it can help keep our information secure.● 10:23—Blockchain fast facts: 1,600 cryptocurrencies already exist. 54th most popular google search this year. One of the most valuable start-ups in Canada is a bitcoin company. The biggest bitcoin story is about the bitcoin bubble.● 11:23—Canada is creating their own national cryptocurrency.● 12:08—The recent cryptocurrency bubble. Cryptocurency breaks Warren´s basic tenenant of investment: Invest in things that have intrinsic value.● 13:20—Problems of cryptocurrency include scalability, huge energy consumption, fraud, money laundering, and security. The number one concern and problem is that people don´t trust the systems.● 14:34—Is now the time to invest in Cryptocurrency?● 14:54—David kicks off the panel.● 15:03—David has a vested interest in the cryptocurrency, and from a technology standpoint, he believes in the future of blockchain. It is a great technology.● 16:30—Blockchain can promote cyber security and will grow to include biometrics--your fingerprint and more. Blockchain is generally trusted.● 17:30—Amazon and IBM are working with blockchain as part of their formula, and they are growing their business nicely.● 17:50—Digressing from Blockchain, Bitcoin is dead. In startk comparison to Blockchain, David doesn´t like bitcoin.● 18:28—Bitcoin is more of a digital trend.● 18:53—Once someone (like the world bank) enters the market and adds stability and credibility to the volatility, digital currencies would be a good investment and that would be a key time to invest in the sector.● 19:50—Shopify allows every single type of bitcoin to be used on their platform.● 20:22—Transition to Kyle Kemper● 20:26—There is actually a website that has bitcoin arbituaries that shows you how many times bitcoin has died. Kyle wouldn´t use it to support his mortgag, but it is an investment worth having.● 22:26—In the past, we needed banks to move the money. With bitcoin, banks do not stifle the transcaction process in terms of supply and inflation. ● 23:26—With bitocoin, you skip the need for interrmediaries like banks.● 24:17—Bitcoin is a currency, a commodity, and a ledger that everyone can witness. ● 24:53—Bitcoin is young but still growing.● 25:25—As big players come into the market, there will be a flip in the market from volatility to stability and credibility.● 25:53—Insure yourself and use Kyle´s formula to invest in Bitocin at a proportion based on your overall global wealth.● 28:00—Bitcoin is fixed at 21,000,000 pieces of Bitcoin.● 28:50—Transition to Jason Pereira.● 29:30—Jason unpacks thoughts around cryptocurrency We have never had anything like this before and that is what makes cryptocurrency difficult.● 30:15—Therise and fall of the bitcoin bubble and the probability that it will be a lasting investment over time.● 30:43—If you are trying to make fast money, bitcoin is a disaster. However, bitcoin is the most revolutionized computer we have seen in the avenue.● 31:03—The entire system for monetization has been flipped with cryptocurrency.● 31:13—All the code and protocols that everything we do is based on--facebook, facetime call, etc. Crypto flipped the protocol. Crypto gets value at the originating protocol level.● 32:17—Three uses that determine if something can be used as a currency: it store value, serves as an even exchange, and measures how much something is worth. Bitcoin does all three.● 33:07— Bitcoin´s other functionality is the utilities side like smart contracts.● 33:24—Smart contracts allow anything in code that has been completed to be compensated accordingly--work gets done, money gets paid. Jason talks about how this affects the efficiency of futures contracts in the natural gas industry.● 35:08—Smart contracts based off of bitcoin can measure the computing that has been completed by employees and promote accountability in coporations. ● 36:00—Smart contracts could also help streamline the process after getting hit by a storm. ● 37:27—Can money be made in Bitcoin? yes, but as an advisor we have to measure the return. Is there a potential for return? yes, but at this stage in the game, there is so much technical jargon that we need to wade through.● 38:19—The Cryptocurrency and Blockchain space is not mature enough to be able to incorporate it into our portfolios today. We have to put our client`s priorities first, many of which are based of off a way of life rather than returns.● 39:01—The floor is open to questions.● 39:32—Is cryptocurrency too volatile to use as currency? This is a western view of currency. If you are in a country where currency is less stable than cryptocurrency, there will be a drive to use crypto.● 42:05—The voltility comes down to your own investment appetite.● 42:51— What is the concept of mining and does it mean anyone can produce more currency?● 44:33— Does cryptocurrency undermine the bank of canada?● 45:46— Any currency undermines the central bank. Rather, it is another venue for purchasing.● 46:33—How close are we to reaching the point of investment? A year away or ten years away? Ask us in ten years.● 48:14—Your cash and credit card are far more vulnerable to security breech than blockchain.● 48:45— The role blockchain will play in patents, copywriting, and owership is important. It will become the underlying infrastructure for ownership and also a way to monetize that ownership.● 51:24—The computing power is not the processing power. ● 53:17—You can increase the number of bits, but people are unlikely to do that as it affects the value of bitcoin negatively.● 55:56—More pepole have lost money with Bitcoin than made money with it.● 56:20—What can you do right now? Download a wallet so you can invest and hold digital currencies.3 Key Points:1. Blockchain and cryptocurrency´s technical jargon can be convuluted and make it hard to understnad the market in its entireity, but they are considered to be revolutionary advances across several fields including the futures market, utilities--smart contracts, and future corporate accoutability structures.2. The bitcoin market has been distracted by greed. If you are trying to speculate and make fast money, it is a disaster. However, the truth is that bitcoin is revolutionary, and digital currencies are a market of the future.3. Bitcoin is a valid form of currency: it can store value, be used as a unit of measure, and be exchanged. However, it still needs maturity, stability, and credibility to beconsidered a part of portfolios. Experiement with it, but don´t bet your house on it. There is a love for Blockchain and a dislike for Bitcoin.Tweetable Quotes:- “Start experimenting for the love of god. Go open a Robo Account. Go buy bitcoin. Once you see these things, you can start to understand.” –Jason.- “The realchallenge is that we have never had something like this before” – Jason.- “Bitcoin is a distraction due to greed. If you are trying to speculate and make fast money, it is a disaster. However, the truth is is that bitcoin is revolutionary.” – Jason.- “You are taking a risk by not having bitcoin.” – Kyle.- “ As big players come into the market, there will be a flip in the market.”– Kyle.- “ More people have lost money on Bitcoin than made money on Bitcoin”– David.Resources Mentioned:●The Fintech Impact●Refer to Jason Pereira´s Linkedinfor Information about the Fintech event hosted by Individual Finance and Decision Center: New Developments in Fintech and their impacts on Society●David Hayes●Kyle Kemper●Woodgate Financial●Itunes, Sticherto access the podcast●Insitute of Advance Financial Planners Confrence●Edge Wallet See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Andreas Antonopoulos, tech guru, author, and speaker behind the “Lets Talk Bitcoin” podcast discusses how he became interested in Bitcoin, why it's important, and what we might see in the future. In 2011, Andreas Antonopoulos was between freelance jobs when he read Satoshi's bitcoin white paper. Seeing its potential, and having taught the public about computers since the age of 15, he decided that the best way for him to contribute to the crypto movement would be to teach people about bitcoin in a way they can understand. The focus on public, open, and decentralized blockchains preserves privacy and empowers individuals, especially the world's unbanked, underbanked, and poor, is Andreas' main interest. Tune in for insights from Bitcoin and Crypto's top thought leader.
