Scott Kartvedt became a Navy fighter pilot in 1991 at the controls of the AMAZING F/A-18 Hornet. He flew with the Blue Angels for three years as the #7, #6, and then the #5 solo pilot, then returned to the fleet to serve in combat in Iraq in 2003 in 2005. He because a commanding officer, serving two combat tours in Afghanistan in 2009 in 2010, and ran the Navy's F35 program in 2011 before being selected as the Navy's first stealth fighter squadron commanding officer. In all, Scott served during five combat deployments, flying 91 combat missions, accumulating over 6,300 flight hours and 658 carrier arrested landings on 11 aircraft carriers. After retiring from the Navy, Scott hasn't slowed down in the slightest. He currently flies for the Patriots jet demonstration team, was a stunt pilot in Top Gun Maverick, and was the aviation safety supervisor in Mission Impossible 8. His sons are both Naval aviators, following in their father's footsteps. During his distinguished 25-year career in the Navy his notable positions include the Commanding Officer and Flight Leader of the Blue Angels, command of a fleet Super Hornet squadron, and TOPGUN Instructor, with worldwide deployments aboard aircraft carriers, including major combat operations. In academia, Ryan has complemented his operational expertise with the study of strategy, cyber, culture, leadership and ethics. Ryan served as the Director of Leadership and Character Development and an ethics professor at the United States Naval Academy. He was twice selected to serve in strategic roles as a Director Fellow for the Chief of Naval Operations Strategic Studies Group, and as the Navy's Federal Executive Fellow at MIT. Ryan received a B.A. Degree from the University of California in Cultural Anthropology and is a Distinguished Graduate of the U.S. Naval War College with a M.A. in National Security and Strategic Studies. Mike was a Naval flight officer after graduating Wesleyan in 1981 and selected as a Blue Angel in 1987. In 1980, Chrystal was one of the first 50 women to graduate from the Naval Academy. She first served in the Philippines, and then became flight instructor, and impressed with Mike during back-seat-training, midflight.
