Our fact checker Jeff Brownen discovered a "Lost Episode" (as you're reading this, say it with 1950's fading echo, lost episode... lost episode... lost episode....)... This episode begins on March 17th, 2006 at the Cains Ballroom with Opeth & DevilDriver.... Followed by the Shirts For A Cure Tour w/ Thursday & Minus The Bear & The Number 12 Looks Like You at the Cains Ballroom! Nine Inch Nails at the Ford Center with Saul, Max reminisces about seeing NIN live at Kinetics in Bricktown on the Pretty Hate Machine Tour. Max once again did a two stage local metal show at the Cains that had Horse Called War on the bill. We also discuss the very first Bullet For My Valentine show in Oklahoma at Curly's with Forte, which was legendary... A brand new metal band, with young kids, with all the hype behind them on the same bill with Metal / Thrash legends Forte.... If you were asked to guess who would have the best grass, Willie, Merle, or Ray Price? Most would have no idea that it would be Ray Price.... If you know, you know! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The first show we will discuss in this episode is Taking Back Sunday, Underoath, & Armor For Sleep at the Lloyd Noble in Norman... (this show was amazing & i hate shows at lloyd noble - Jay Ramone)... We also discuss Chinese Democracy era GnR at Lloyd Noble w/ Hinder. Max also reveals that he got beat up once at the Lloyd Noble... Recently, Rock 100.5 The KATT had a record & memorabillia show, Max had a Here's The Deal Vintage booth with lots of things for sale but he was also a shopper... He came across a vendor who was selling an 11 x 17 poster print of Stevie Ray Vaughn performing at Lloyd Noble in 1986 while playing his Number 1, SRV Fender Strat, while wearing a Native American Head Dress, which is from a photo that Max Baker Jr. took with a camera that he snuck into the show! He recognized the photo & the vendor confirmed, it was indeed from a photo that Max had taken!!!!!! We also discuss an absolutely incredible metal show that came through the Cains Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma.... Lamb of God, Trivium, Machinehead, & Gojira!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another legendary show we discuss is the Red Hot Chili Peppers make up show at the Cox Convention Center... Originally the show had Gnarls Barkley as the opener, a snow storm cancelled the original date... The make up date featured Mickey Avalon as the opener instead, & OKC did not like Mickey's performance at all... So much so, they loudly boooooooooo'd during his entire performance.. Extremely Loud Boo's!!!!!! So much so, Flea came out very pissed off & let the fans know exactly how he felt about their behavior! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Here's the Deal

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAX BAKER JR! We decided to release this Episode on Max's Birthday (he doesn't know we decided to release it early for his bday)! March 20th, 1987, The Ramones were on the "Animal Boy" Tour which came through Dallas, TX at The Longhorn Ballroom (newly reopened BTW). This was the very first time Max had interviewed an artist. Up until this point as a journalist, he had only taken photographs for JAM Magazine. He hadn't actually interviewed anyone yet. Max has said for years that he had the cassette recording of him interviewing Joey Ramone backstage at the Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas, TX. None of us believed him, & we were wrong. He did indeed interview Joey Ramone. He found the cassette & we have digitized it & included the interview in this episode. The audio from this cassette has degraded over the years. There was a few hours of clean up work needed, just to be able to understand what Max & Joey are saying because of all of the noise & things going on in the Ramones dressing room while this interview was taking place. Marky is drumming on the table in the background the whole time. The rest of the band are carrying on with whatever conversations they were having, so there is a lot going on but we did our best to clean it up enough to be able to hear Max's questions, as well as Joey's answers.  On the Ramones - Animal Boy Tour, there were 2 setlists that were used but i couldn't find the exact setlist for the Dallas show. Heres is the link to the setlist from the New Orleans show in the same month - https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/ramones/1987/mcalister-auditorium-tulane-university-new-orleans-la-4bc98f92.html  Here is the setlist from the Austin, Tx show the same month - https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/ramones/1987/backroom-austin-tx-53c98f9d.html  Happy Birthday Max Baker Jr.!  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We should have catered 4 fried chickens, dry, white toast, & a coke for this Episode as we begin in Blues Brothers style. We discuss the Nate Dog from Element, Tribute  show on Feb. 29th, 2004 w/ Failsafe, Disjointed, Wither, Old Major, etc... This was the first show at the Diamond Ballroom where Max had 2 stages inside the venue. One stage would have a band playing, while the 2nd stage was loading on & setting up. Move forward to March for an Infinite Records showcase with Lure & more OKC bands. March 21st, 2004 @ the Diamond Ballroom, Ill Nino, Flaw, 40 Below Summer, & Element80 rolled through OKC on a $400 tour package. We finish with a show at the Coca-Cola Bricktown Event Center, where an artist did not approve of the limosuine provided to take them from the hotel to the venue... There are two ways to handle situations like this.... You can get upset, throw a fit to the promoter until you get what you want or don't get what you want, but by acting like this, you make everyone's day difficult.... or.... you can be cool, be respectful & figure out a solution without being disrespectful to everyone you're working with that day.... Today, a conversation with Danny Boy O’Connor, who went from 90s hip hop star to passionate preservationist, transforming The Outsiders House into a museum, and a point of pride for Tulsa. Then, City Editor Morgan Phillips steps up to the plate for an extra-sporty edition of What the What?So let’s talk, Tulsa. That’s the voice of Danny Boy O’Connor, savior of the now-revered “Outsiders” house once destined for demolition. He’s turning it into a pop culture museum centered on the 1983 film filmed here in Tulsa, as well as its inspiration: the book written by Tulsan S.E. Hinton when she was a 15-year-old student at Will Rogers High School. To Danny Boy (and now, to many others) the Outsiders house was always more than a movie set; the home, like the film, represented a simpler time, like the childhood summers he spent traveling from his home in Los Angeles to his native New Jersey. The hip-hop group House of Pain was comprised of Danny Boy and rappers Everlast and DJ Lethal. They released three albums in the 90s; their first, “Fine Malt Lyrics,” went multi-platinum. Fast-forward many years and several world tours later, and eventually House of Pain split up; Danny Boy later reunited with Everlast and DJ Lethal to form the group La Coka Nostra. And that brought Danny Boy to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2009.That moment sparked something in Danny. It eventually led him to create the Delta Bravo Urban Exploration, a team that finds and documents culturally relevant sites such as the shooting locations for films, TV, music videos and album covers. But his first love, his labor of love, is the Outsiders House, a representation of the film that so strongly affected him all those years ago. Danny Boy bought the house for $15,000 in 2015 and began the process of restoring the dilapidated property back to the iteration seen in “The Outsiders” film. Thanks so much for Listening to Tulsa Talks! Email me at bowiefan1970@live.com. Thanks for listening! The show notes are as follows: This episode begins with Howard Cosell's Monday Night Football announcement of the assassination of John Lennon. You know John Lennon's story and his music. I'm going to tell you about Mark David Chapman. MDC was abused as a boy growing up, as was his mother. As a teenager, he fantasized about some imaginary little people living in the walls of his bedroom. In 1971, he became a religious zealot. He worked as a YMCA counselor and was well liked. A friend recommended "The Catcher In The Rye" to him. Chapman went to an evangelical college with his girlfriend, but he cheated on her. He flunked out, and she broke up with him. He became a security guard. He attempted suicide in '77, but failed. He was admitted to a hospital for depression and later got a job there. In '78 he traveled around the world, imitating a movie. He married his travel agent. He started drinking a lot and the little people came back, having board meetings in his mind and deciding his fate. He wrote a letter to a girl saying he was going nuts. He idolized John Lennon, but he decided that Lennon was a phony and he was infuriated by Lennon's comment about the Beatles being more popular than Jesus. Holden Caulfield is the arbiter of phoniness. That's why MDC identified with him so much. Lennon was living in the Dakota Apartments, an extravagant lifestyle anathema to all he preached. MDC was obsessed with many other celebrities, but Lennon was easily accessible because he walked the streets of NYC. MDC went to New York two times. The first, he backed out of killing Lennon, but went back. He accosted James Taylor on the subway the day before the murder, ranting about John Lennon. The next day, Chapman left his personal items at his hotel and bought a copy of "Catcher". He was Holden Caulfield now. He spent the day outside the Dakota and got Lennon's autograph. When Yoko and John were returning from the studio, he shot John four times in the back. I explain some things about the book Chapman was obsessed with. Next, I tell the story of Dimebag Darrell Abbott, the guitarist for Pantera. He was killed onstage. I saw them early on at Cain's Ballroom in Oklahoma. The lead singer, Phil Anselmo, kicked out the security and we all got on stage. Darrell used to be nicknamed "Diamond" Darrell, but he changed it. Dimebag and his brother Vinnie Paul had a band called Damageplan after Pantera broke up. Numerous people were killed at their final show by the gunman. Everyone loved Dimebag, including Eddie Van Halen. God Bless John Lennon and Dimebag. Rest in peace.

Not only is Hometown Heroes the official podcast/broadcast of Freakers Ball, we also have our own "Double H Stage". If that's not enough, the 11pm $1,000 costume contest features some of the season's most elaborate costumed contestants. Friday October 31 Guinness presents the 34th Annual Freakers Ball- 4 stages featuring all Tulsa area music, a $1,000 costume contest, and the very spooky Dustin Parkhurst and Davit Souders. www.myspace.com/freakersballroomblitz www.cainsballroom.com www.hometownheroestulsa.com The Freakers Ball Class of 2008 Part One: Doomsday Junky- Man On A MissionStevedore- Pure AggressionAcoustic Ross- The R.I.A.A. Ballroom Blitz Part I You know the phrase, The Blitz is on? Well, its true in this case, as in the 2nd Annual Ballroom Blitz at Cain's Ballroom here in Tulsa, on Saturday, April 28. This event and its Fall campanion, Freakers' Ball are the two largest single day showcase events for Tulsa area bands. Being a pro-Tulsa broadcast/podcast it only made perfect sense for us to showcase this 4 stage, 25 plus band event. Sometimes you have to put your money where your mouth is, so here we go. Don't forget, and we won't let you anyway. Education is important. That's why we give you not one, but two really fun facts each show. They always relate to Tulsa and/or Oklahoma. Where else will you find out which city in the U.S. is number one for allergy sufferers to live? or just try to guess where President Franklin D. Roosevelt made a secret visit to in 1943... You don't have to thank us for all of this free music and information, just spread the word.  Y'all come back now.
