Our last Album of the Month (AOTM) was the beautiful 'Life on Earth' by Hurray for the Riff Raff. This month the This Is Not Happening crew tackle Kendrick Lamar's 'Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers' head on! We get stuck right into this challenging album in Part 1 of the pod. In Part 2, we play 'Spin It or Bin It?' where we judge the tracks that we've chosen for this month's theme.Part 1 - Album of the MonthThis month it's Nolan's choice, Kendrick Lamar's 'Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers' . We discuss the album in length, favourite tracks and their impact on us and other music fans and if there is a missing track from this album. We want you to have access to great conversations about great music - here are some links to some of the best content on this album that we've consumed;A great 'explainer' article from Ambrosia for Heads - read hereNYT's Popcast Podcast Episode (this one is great for a Kendrick Sceptic view) - listen hereGreat Tempo Tribe Podcast conversation - listen hereA shorter listen at 22 mins - the NPR Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast - listen hereThis was one of our toughest albums to think and to talk about ... but we hope you enjoy it.Part 2 - Spin it or Bin ItIn the second part of this episode we get stuck into 4 tracks representing this months theme - 'LA Tracks' - or favourite tracks from LA based artists. We all pick a track, introduce our track and ask the others the painfully binary critical question; 'spin it' or 'bin it?' We try not to go super-obvious on our track selections each month ... this is what we chose to represent LA;Joey's track selection is - 'Chum' by Earl SweatshirtDavid's track selection is - 'Twelve Thirty' by The Mamas and the PapasNolan's track selection is - 'Runners' by Evidence ft. DefariGuy's track selection is - '86' by TruncateNext MonthEpisode #25 will be with you soon - Guy will be guiding us through 'We' by Arcade Fire one of is favourite artists ever ... what could go wrong? Have a listen to the album and share some thoughts with us on the blog or on our Insta. Other episodes of the pod and 10 years of the blog;If you enjoyed this episode, please check out the others. If that's not enough for you then there's 10 years worth of music discussion on the blog at www.thisisnothappening.net, which runs alongside the podcast choices and much, much more. So check them out so to see what we like and where we clash, and comment if something catches your eye. We'd love to see what you think.

BANG! @southernvangard #radio Ep290: COVID-19 Edition 89! First and foremost - REST IN PEACE #SHOCKG of the almighty #DIGITALUNDERGROUND. A true original. Yet another massive loss for hip-hop and music in general this week. Nonetheless, we gotta keep this torch lit, so let’s get it going - gobs of new music this week as always, and our mid-mix interview returns with none other than KAIMBR & SEAN BORN! They have a ridiculously dope project out now called NINO GREEN, you can hear about it from them directly and hear some joints off the project on this episode - and after that you can cop the project on Bandcamp, ok? OK! Our Thursday interview session this week is one of the more interesting to date - Hat Club’s own JUSTIN FARNHAM aka PINK BOTTOM JUS - if you know, you know - if you don’t know, you’re about to. One of my favorite tributes on Take It Personal has been our West Coast Classic series. Two years ago, on West Coast Classics III (episode 16), we dropped this 2Pac mini-mix. It's no secret that I'm a huge Pac fan. I know that's really not something people who love Kool Keith or MF DOOM willingly admits, but I do. From 1993-1995, Pac was an absolute beast. His Death Row material is cool, but I felt like we got the real Pac before joined Suge and the gang. I've always felt his voice, his delivery and his storytelling ability made him extremely special. Much like Ice Cube or Scarface, Pac was just as talented in painting that vivid tale on wax. This mix is JUST an appetizer(We promise). It does NOT feature everything, especially some of my favorite Pac collaboration, but it's a reminder of what we do when it comes to tributes. This summer, we'll be honoring the late Tupac Shakur. I strongly suggest you to revisit our West Coast Classic series (episode 14-17), where we featuring many other mini-tributes such as Ice Cube, Hieroglyphics, Golden State Warriors, Death Row Records, Pharcyde, Likwit Crew, Cypress Hill and the westcoast underground with Dilated Peoples, Freestyle Fellowship, Defari, Planet Asia, Rasco & Encore. While this 2Pac mini-mix is just a taste of what's coming, there are a lot of Pac songs features on West Coast Classics not featured on this mix. Get ready to carve out a few hours cuz we got a lot to cover on our 2-part Pac tribute. Coming Soon: Take It Personal - The 2Pac Tribute (Summer '20) takeitpersonalradio.com

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Nipsey Hussle. While this is a Hip Hop show, Nipsey's influence goes well beyond music. Yes, music was the foundation but his community minded, independent approach is what his legacy will be remembered for. Starr Saxxxon and I hope that we were able to highlight some of that as we remember that impacted countless individuals. Big June stops by to talk about his music and navigating the game hailing from San Diego, CA. Check his history and you will find that he is no stranger to the game. J asks him about challenges that he has faced and overcome and the love that he gets from his community. Big June gets his grind on and you will enjoy. People on the outside looking in don't focus on the business component of music. If an artist fails to devote enough time reading the fineprint it can set them back. Enter East Coast spitter Truth (@truthemcee ). As he prepares to release his new album, The Fight for Survival, he links up with J-Luv to talk about the importance of handling your business, following your gut and knowing when to accept help as you travel the music business highway. Truth is a fan of the Sweet Science and has co-signs from PF Cuttin, Large Professor and more. He is well versed in the boom bap sound has the heart of a champion. Songs from Nipsey Hussle, Truth, Defari, Big June, Rick Ross, Fat Joe, Mazhe and more. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ksrn/message

After spending the last 4 episodes on the West Coast, we return to the boom-bap for episode 18. Hip-hop has been very good this year and it’s because of guys like Meyhem Lauren and Planet Asia. Both Gems From The Equinox and Anchovies are up there for album of the year, so it only made sense to have these guys as our special guests interviews. We have new music from Apathy & O.C., Sean Price, Meyhem Lauren & DJ Muggs, MF DOOM, Conway, Benny, Westside Gunn, Fashawn, Da Flyy Hooligan, Edo. G, SmooVth & Giallo Point, Defari, Apollo Brown & Planet Asia, Masta Killa, Hus Kingpin, Heavy Metal Kings, Big Twins, Bermuda Triangle and Mach-Hommy to name a few, plus a ridiculous DJ 360 remix of Winter Winds. Keep it locked as the TIP crew entertains you for the next 3 hours with hip-hop and hilarity.

After spending the last 4 episodes on the West Coast, we return to the boom-bap for episode 18. Hip-hop has been very good this year and it's because of guys like Meyhem Lauren and Planet Asia.

Hey folks...here's a file from my mixtape archives that I wanted to SHARE with the world. This was my fifth mixtape that was released back in 1997. You ask yourself "...why not upload 'Vol.1-4' Mr.A.Vee??" Well unfortunately (and fortunately) alot of the classic mixtape bloggers already beat me to the punch with the uploads. Oh yeah, I need to mention that this mix has a freestyle from Eminem & Royce da 5 '9" DJ'd by me which originally aired in 1997 on www.88HIPHOP.com the first online Hip Hop show. In any case, hope you enjoy the underground joints from the past...and if its not your steez, feel free to share it with a friend who would appreciate it. Peace,A.DJ A.Vee's "Only V..."
