Hallo Freunde heute gibt es eine neue Episode meiner Indie Dance The Mix Series.... Diesmal mit den Jungs von Beyond The Struttosphere aus London. Viel Spaß Kurt Kjergaard Hello friends Today there is a new episode of my Indie Dance The Mix Series.... This time with the guys from Beyond The Struttosphere from London. Enjoy It Kurt Kjergaard BIO Beyond The Struttopshere is a sonic collaboration between two London-based DJs channelling their considerable musical production experience and boundless love of cosmic chugging dark disco. Their trademark sound combines fat chugging basslines with reverbed guitar riffs, cosmic synths, syncopated arpeggiators, retro-future vocal samples, Italo drum fills and psychedelic 303 sequences. Their debut EP ‘New Frontier' was released on Gouranga Music in 2020 and found much acclaim among Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston's A Love From Outer Space online fraternity, also appearing on Juan Mclean's (DFA Records) contribution to Tim Sweeney's Beats In Space mix series. This propelled the duo to newfound heights, leading to highly lauded releases on esteemed labels such as Mélopée Records, Astrolead Recordings, Discolypso, In Dark We Trust, Emerald & Doreen and X-PRESSINGS. Beyond The Struttosphere's music is now making sonic reverberations around the globe, hitting the dancefloors of Burning Man, House of Yes NYC, ADE and Sisyphos Berlin, and notching up remixes from legends of the scene including Rebolledo, Rigopolar, Vongold, James Rod, Ivan Fabra, K-Effect, Roliva and Mufti. The cosmonauts are currently deep in the studio, working on new material, with live guitar now a mainstay of their productions. Catch them DJ'ing this summer on the UK festival circuit and strap yourselves in for an interstellar journey Beyond The Struttosphere! Send us a Text Message. When Jonnie Wilkes and former Lost and Sound guest JD Twitch began their Optimo Espacio night one sunday in 1997 at Glasgow's Sub Club, did they think that their eclectic style of mixing house and techno with post-punk, krautrock and far outt exotic treats would kickstart an institution, as well as carve the way for a dancefloor seachange? On this week's show, Jonnie takes the mic to share his auditory odyssey with us. The narrative weaves between his distinct loves for both DJing and music production, and how this ties into a background in fine art. With over two decades of experience to his name, Jonnie offers profound insights into how his artistry has shaped and been shaped by the reverberations of the industry. This echoes into talking about jis recently released Naum Gabo album (made with James Savage and released on the hugely influential DFA Records) is a dark, post-industrial journey that explores the outer reaches of electronics.Wilkes' candid reminiscences and musings on the emotional tapestry of live performances cast light on the intimate connections forged between DJ and audience, how our physical surroundings influence our creative process and the fluidity of art.F.Lux by Naum Gabo is available now here.Paul Hanford on InstagramLost and Sound is proudly sponsored by Audio-TechnicaPaul's book, Coming To Berlin: Global Journeys Into An Electronic Music And Club Culture Capital is published by Velocity Press. Gostou do podcast?
There's one artist in particular who is determined to bring the early 2000s era bloghouse aesthetic back, and it's Brooklyn-based Harrison Patrick Smith of The Dare, our guest on Date with the Night episode 9. We discuss The Dare's recent single Girls, and dig into Harrison's song writing process. Harrison unpacks what he loves about the early 2000s bloghouse and electroclash sound, and talks about his inspirations from the era including Peaches, LCD Soundsystem, DFA Records, The Rapture, the Maison Kitsuné compilations, and more. We also discuss the current state of the underground scene in New York, as well as Harrison's DJ residency at Home Sweet Home - the filming location for the Girls music video, directed by Jacob Lazovick.Make sure to follow The Dare on Instagram and other socials, and check out Girls on all streaming platforms.
This week's show covers new music from Catalonia's Rosalía, from Malian guitarist and singer Vieux Farka Touré backed up by Houston's Khruangbin, a new tune from Durham, NC's The Mountain Goats, and Cambridge, England's Anish Kumar. For the archive track this week, Brendan whips out a favorite from 14 years ago, from Melbourne's Cut Copy. This is perhaps their signature song, “Lights & Music,” expertly produced by Tim Goldsworthy, then affiliated with DFA Records. While it came out in 2008, it has some many elements from dance and indie music that is still sounds great, all these years later. Of course, there are six more bonus tracks, but you have to sign up for our email newsletter to get those. (Great music is included there, too, ladies and gentlemen.) It's pretty easy to do, if you just click this link. (And do so without fear. We won't misuse your email address, as this show is run by two guys, Mark and Brendan; Not some faceless corporation.) Lastly, don't miss our fabulous Spotify playlists. We make one for each episode of the show, so grab the latest if you are up to date, and dig into previous episodes if you are new here, or just curious. Have a terrific week!

We meet Juan Maclean and Marcus Lambkin, two figures who’ve been part of DFA Records since the very beginning. DFA brought two sides of the school yard together – the punks and the disco dancers, the indie wallflowers and the arty attention-seekers. Founded by James Murphy as a creative outlet for his friends in New York, DFA Records launched with a bang in 2002 – signing The Rapture’s ‘House of Jealous Lovers’ and laying the groundwork for a string of disco, techno, punk and avant-rock records from The Juan Maclean, Hercules and Love Affair, Holy Ghost, Black Dice and one of the great live bands of the era, LCD Soundsystem. Chal speaks to Juan, the label’s techno commander-in-chief, and Marcus, aka Irish rave guru Shitrobot, about New York before social media, inventing your own audience, and the glorious tyranny of their friend and collaborator James Murphy. In this week's episode we interview Luke Jenner of The Rapture. If you're a fan of the 2000s music scene in New York City then you undoubtedly know their hit House of Jealous Lovers and being the first band from that era to bring dance music into the fold. We discuss: (13:30) COVID and Luke's solo album and what The Rapture have been up to, (16:45) growing up San Diego and learning about his family's history of mental illness, (33:00) Luke's advice for becoming a professional musician, (39:40) Luke's deep connection with his lifelong friend and drummer for The Rapture, Vito Roccoforte, and the start of the band in San Francisco, (52:15) moving to NYC and linking up with DFA Records, (67:55) Luke's contribution beyond music as being a happy person and maintaining happiness in the digital realm, (72:00) what he learned from Philippe Zdar, (80:25) our shared experience of losing a parent to suicide, (110:00) how a therapist articulated to Luke the power of choosing himself and the ramifications of that decision, (114:30) meeting musical icons David Byrne, David Bowie and Robert Smith of The Cure, (125:00) what The Rapture were up to when COVID hit.

On Friday, LCD Soundsystem released its "comeback" album, "American Dream." My feelings on it are mixed — I love the music, but James Murphy can be a prickly, even annoying presence. To get to the bottom of LCD Soundsystem, I called up someone who knows a lot more about James Murphy than I do, author and critic Lizzy Goodman, whose recent book "Meet Me In The Bathroom" is an oral history of the NYC rock scene in the '00s. We talked about Murphy's background as a failed indie musician who found fame in his 30s by co-founding DFA Records, refashioning himself as a skilled architect of dance-rock records. We also cover Murphy's decision to revive LCD Soundsystem, and how "American Dream" fits with the rest of the band's catalogue.

LA's Daniel T makes a welcome debut to the Clandestino series. As one half of Cosmic Kids Daniel has contributed music to Throne of Blood, Let's Play House and DFA Records and can boast remix work for Holy Ghost! and The Rapture. A solo EP / mini LP for Young Adults entitled 'Tetrachromat ' is out now; we don't need to tell you it's essential. Dan's DJ mixes are always a delight; full of colour and joyous melody.
