Today we hear two scholars reading their recent work on artificial intelligence. Steph Ceraso studies the technology of “voice donation,” which provides AI-created custom voices for people with vocal disabilities. Hussein Boon contemplates the future of AI in music via some very short and thought-provoking fiction tales. And we start off the show with Mack reflecting on how hard the post-shutdown adjustment has been for many of us and how that might be feeding into the current AI hype.   For our Patreon members we have “What's Good” recommendations from Steph and Hussein on what to read, listen to, and do. Join at Patreon.com/phantompower.  About our guests: Steph Ceraso is Associate Professor of Digital Writing & Rhetoric in the English Department at the University of Virginia. She's one of Mack's go-to folks when trying to figure out how to use audio production in the classroom as a form of student composition. Steph's research and teaching interests include multimodal composition, sound studies, pedagogy, digital rhetoric, disability studies, sensory rhetorics, music, and pop culture.  Hussein Boon is Principal Lecturer at the University of Westminster. He's a multi-instrumentalist, session musician, composer, modular synth researcher, and AI researcher. He also has a vibrant YouTube presence with tutorials on things like Ableton Live production.  Pieces featured in this episode:  “Voice as Ecology: Voice Donation, Materiality, Identity” by Steph Ceraso in Sounding Out (2022).  “In the Future” by Hussein Boon in Riffs (2022).  Mack also mentioned in his rant:  “Embodied meaning in a neural theory of language” by Jerome Feldman and Srinivas Narayanan (2003).  “The Contemporary Theory of Metaphor” by George Lakoff (1992).  Today's show was produced and edited by Ravi Krishnaswami Learn more about your ad choices. Send us a Text Message.Episode 453: Crafting Steamy Stories with Writer G Charles, Journalism to Erotica. Today, I'm thrilled to be discussing writing erotic fiction with erotica author, G. Charles. We dive into a discussion of writing about sex, sexuality, and the art of writing about romance and relationships. G. Charles, who was influenced by the erotic novels starting in the 1970s, studied short story writing in university. He began writing erotic fiction in 2009, publishing through the small press Breathless Press. After its closure, he turned to crime thrillers and resumed writing erotica on Medium in 2019, amassing over 700 stories. You can find G. Charles on Medium, Substack, and Twitter. In this episode, I read an excerpt from G. Charles' story, "The Towel," which can be found in full on Medium at the link below, and then dive into an insightful interview with him. We discuss his journey, writing process, and the nuances of crafting erotic fiction, as well as the differences between writing platforms. We also discussed the following topics:  Writing and popularity of Age Gap Romances, Character Development, Writing Platforms, Self-Publishing, Digital Writing, writing on Medium and Substack, publishing and the payment processors restricting erotic/sexuality content and thereby causing censorship of many author's voices and works. Readers may need to dig deep and should communicate their desire for erotica content to online sellers so they can help reduce the censorship that goes on.Connect with G Charles:Medium: https://medium.com/@gcsub2090Substack: https://substack.com/@sexypsycheAge Gap, Older Man/Younger Woman (college age) Story "The Towel" (the erotica excerpt in the episode) https://medium.com/p/2da5b34234acRuan's books: https://books.ruanwillowauthor.com/Latest Release: Wicked & Spicy Tales, erotic horror, paranormal, and magical stories https://books.ruanwillowauthor.com/wickedandspicytalesErotic Romance: I Dare You, a novel https://books.ruanwillowauthor.com/idareyouthesaturdaysexchallenge Manscaped AmbassadorGet 20% OFF @manscaped + Free Shipping with promo code RUAN at MANSCAPED.com! adRuan's Beach Getaway book by Ruan WillowA spicy age gap erotic romance novel where the couple enjoys their sexy time at the beach.Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Dickie Bush (@dickiebush) discusses Ship 30 for 30, a movement he started to transform writing from a solitary to a communal activity, now a structured course. Along with Nicholas Cole, their partnership propelled Ship 30 to new heights. They emphasize the role of community and social media like Twitter in refining ideas and building credibility. Our discussion contrasts digital and traditional writing, explores content creation challenges like imposter syndrome, and shares tips for resonating content creation. We dive into the software and media realms, highlighting the value of small iterations and immediate feedback in product creation. We touch on the promise of dictation software and delve into Dickie's personal inspiration, his mom, who's not only influenced his journey but also become a cherished figure in the Ship 30 community.Dickie on Twitter: https://twitter.com/dickiebushShip 30 for 30: https://www.ship30for30.com/00:00:00 Modern Writing00:05:37 Start Writing Community, Overcome Challenges00:12:56 Test and Refine Ideas With Twitter00:16:59 Content Creation and Imposter Syndrome00:26:53 Writing for Personal Growth and Teaching00:37:29 Building Software for Publishing Atomic Essays00:40:58 Ship30 and Writing Ventures00:51:21 Discussion on Writing and Publishing BooksThis episode is sponsored by Acquire.comThe blog post: https://thebootstrappedfounder.com/dickie-bush-the-power-of-digital-writing/The podcast episode: https://share.transistor.fm/s/f6d25fb5The video: https://youtu.be/GiDmVoHwE-QYou'll find my weekly article on my blog: https://thebootstrappedfounder.comPodcast: https://thebootstrappedfounder.com/podcastNewsletter: https://thebootstrappedfounder.com/newsletterMy book Zero to Sold: https://zerotosold.com/My book The Embedded Entrepreneur: https://embeddedentrepreneur.com/My course Find Your Following: https://findyourfollowing.comHere are a few tools I use.
