“With Play, we just serve up all of these amazing things that Apple has created and give designers the ability to kind of play in the sandbox that Apple has created we layer our essentially our play UI on top o that and we give them the properties to manipulate.” — Dan LaCivitaWhat if it were possible to design and build a mobile product all on your phone — and what if it were a better way of working? As designers, we are used to designing on our computer - which is often not the end-device of interaction. There are easy ways to transfer the content to phones but with our new guest Dan LaCivita we discuss a bold new idea:What if you could design directly on your phone and it would be even better then designing on a different device? Are a keyboard, mouse, and desktop the best tools for creating mobile products… or have they become barriers? That question started the journey of what came to be Play which Dan founded together with colleagues. Play is the first native iOS design tool built for creating mobile products. What does it mean for the future of design?Design, iterate, and collaborate directly from your phone, experiencing your design as you create it while taking full advantage of native iOS features to bring your product to life. We are thrilled to launch our EP65 with Dan LaCivita, Co-Founder of Play. In the episode, we chat about the role of mobile interactions for innovation. Also why innovation often starts by saying "NO" when it comes to product requirements. The approach of focus actually opens up the field for innovation. We also dig into cross-device interaction and his experience leading a major design agency in New York called Firstborn, which got later acquired where you can learn about how to run a large design business and grow it even further. Thanks a lot for your time and for your learnings Dan!*************The GuestDan LaCivita is an entrepreneur and servant leader who has built, grown and led successful teams and businesses in the digital space for over 15 years. His latest venture, Play, is transforming how teams create mobile products by empowering them to design, build and experience their product in real time—all on the medium they're designing for—their phone. Previously, as CEO of award-winning agency Firstborn, Dan led teams to create powerful digital products and experiences for a client roster that includes PepsiCo, L'Oréal, Adidas, S&P Global, Supercell, Jet & NYU Langone. Under his guidance, Firstborn's work has been recognized with numerous awards including Clios, Cannes Lions and One Show Pencils; the agency, itself, has been placed on prestigious rosters such as Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies (2x), Advertising Age's Agency A List and Crain's Best Places to Work in New York City (4x). A thoughtful commentator thanks to his diverse roles within the industry, Dan has penned his point of view for Fast Company, Forbes, Advertising Age and Adweek and has spoken at the Financial Times, Ad Age Digital, 99U and FITC conferences, to name a few. Dan was also named to the 4A's “100 People Who Make Advertising Great” list, Direct Marketing News' 2016 '40 Under 40' list and sat on the Digital Board of Directors of the 4A's.Outside of work, Dan's passions include participating in GORUCK Challenges, team-based endurance events that push your physical and mental limits. Inside and outside the office, Dan can often be found shuffling a deck of cards—a nod to his passion for the art of close-up magic.

The Business Method Podcast: High-Performance & Entrepreneurship
Dan Roitman is the founder of Stroll, an eCommerce platform company that specialized in marketing education products. Through Stroll, Dan turned Pimsleur into the second largest language learning platform in the US, and close to a $100 Million product line. For seven years in a row, his company that he started in his college dorm room was on the Inc. 5000 list, the Philadelphia 100, and Internet Retailers top 500 list. He's also been recognized as a ‘40 Under 40' by both Direct Marketing News and the Philadelphia Business Journal For a ten-year period, Stroll had an annual growth rate of over 70%. The company became an $80 million professionally managed organization with more than 125 employees. Dan had a fascination with personal development products that began in college when he needed to quickly learn how to build and manage a business. He was able to self-fund the growth of Stroll through his own constant commitment to business improvement and the ability to leverage sophisticated marketing analytics and advanced e-commerce techniques. To quote Dan…. “I realized the only way to succeed would be to leverage the few dollars at hand. I had access to several third-party testing and optimization tools. All I needed to do was monitor and assure an ROI on every advertising dollar invested so that I could ultimately optimize my results until I was successful. Analytics and optimization became my rallying cries—a means to lift me from my own disaster and build a quickly growing business. Today, Dan is focused on his early education business, MindFinity, and also mentors high-growth entrepreneurs in his spare time. Dan sold Stroll a few years back. We're going to talk about that today, on top of Dan's mindset and high-performance tips, along with his new venture MindFinity. 05:57: Being Ruthless with Your Time Podcast Episode About Being Ruthless w/Your Time 13:57: Starting Stoll in His College Dorm 17:58: Ensuring Every Dollar Put Into a Business is Profitable 27:37: Matching Values in Business 33:42: How Dan Viewed His Largest Competitor Not as a Competitor At All 42:42: Contribution Margin vs. Profit Margin 50:08: Finding Contentment in Current Work Projects 51:49: Dan on Meditation 59:47: High-Performance Tips from Dan Roitman Contact Info: https://mindfinity.com/ Dan on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/danroitman/ Subscribe to the Podcast: Website: https://www.thebusinessmethod.com/dan-roitman Apple Podcasts: http://bit.ly/TheBusinessMethod Google Podcasts: http://bit.ly/TheBusinessMethodGooglePodcasts Spotify: http://bit.ly/SpotifyTheBusinessMethod

In this episode of Tales from the PROS, I chat with Dionisios "Dio" Favatas, who currently leads digital marketing for the award-winning truth® youth tobacco prevention campaign helping to extend the reach of the brand and its advertising. As an industry-recognized leader and digital marketing innovator, Favatas, in 2017, received the prestigious American Marketing Association’s 4 under 40 Emerging Leaders Award. In 2016, he earned a spot in the Direct Marketing News “40 under 40” list and was ranked 13th in Onalytica’s Top 100 Digital Content Marketers. Dio is also an official member of the Forbes Nonprofit Council. We talk about how Dio and his team led an award winning Truth anti-tobacco prevention campaign, some of the steps and approaches taken for marketing campaign greatness, how Dio used data and metrics to drive audience targeting and engagement, leadership, and much more. Questions Asked: Dio, what really caught my attention was the marketing and tech content you consistently put out on Twitter regarding non-profits, and as we all know and love the well recognized Truth Initiative commercials and social media in which you manage and direct. What lead you to managing Digital for the Truth tobacco prevention campaign, and what essentially inspired you to pursue digital marketing growing up? Did you ever think you would be where you are today leading Digital for an award-winning campaign? What does it take for a marketing leader and a team to be nationally or even globally recognized to impact positive change? In your experience, what would you consider the differences are between marketing for a non-profit than a corporation like T-Mobile for example? What are some of the most effective marketing channels or strategies that you implemented and had amazing success? Where do you feel social media and content marketing are headed in today's digital age? Specifically in the non-profit space. Are there any specific touch points that you've experienced in which targeted your audience most effectively? Do you feel that patience plays a vital role in marketing success? People are always looking for the "quick result" To get to this point of success in your career and in the Truth campaign, what were some of the toughest challenges you had and how were you able to overcome them? Do you have a certain approach or step by step process of what aspiring marketing leaders need to take for campaign success? What tips would you give to current and future leaders and what they need to avoid or be aware of? In your mind, what does it take to be a leader? CLOSING: I always ask the THREE HOW'S: How do you define failure? How do you define entrepreneurship? How do you define success? Before founding MKTG Insight, Ginger was editor-in-chief at publications like CRM and Direct Marketing News. And with her wealth of knowledge and experience, I wanted to get a preview of what she’ll be discussing at the conference. And I asked my co-chair, Paul Greenberg, to help me ask Ginger about one of the myths surrounding digital transformation, and also an example of a company doing digital transformation the right way, from a marketing perspective.

Why big companies like Microsoft and Amazon are partnering to tackle voice search. Why the lines between #InfluencerMarketing and PR have become muddied and why they're not the same thing. 3 Key Points: Be organized, structured and consistent about the process of creating your content/ thought leadership.
