“I really believe in developing the power of an audio brand as the Nike swoosh, as the Amazon arrow smile. Your audio brand should be as recognizable to your personal brand, to your business brand, however you're leveraging your audio platform. It should be as good a quality, and people should invest in, and not have it be an afterthought. If you think about what people invest in personal branding and visual branding aesthetics, website branding and then, oh, ‘I want to start a podcast.' And they never even consider that that's an extension of all of that other investment that you've made.” – Traci DeForge This episode's guest is the founder of Produce Your Podcast, an award-winning full-service production and marketing agency, and is recognized as an international podcast expert, sought-after speaker, and media contributor. She's the creator of the Podcast Management Academy, the industry's only certified podcast manager training program, and co-founder of the Podcast Professionals Association. She's also the co-host of the Ask Brien radio show on KHTS AM & FM in Los Angeles and has been featured on all three major networks along with CNN, CTV, American Express OPEN, and Radio INK, and is a member of the Rolling Stone Culture Council. Her name is Traci DeForge, and if you're looking to take your podcast to the next level, you'll want to hear what she has to say about it. As always, if you have questions for my guest, you're welcome to reach out through the links in the show notes. If you have questions for me, visit audiobrandingpodcast.com where you'll find a lot of ways to get in touch. Plus, subscribing to the newsletter will let you know when the new podcasts are available and what the newest audio chats will be about. If you're getting some value from listening, the best ways to show your support are to share this podcast with a friend and leave an honest review. Both those things really help – and I'd love to feature your review on future podcasts. (0:00:01) – The Love of AudioWe start things off with a look back at Traci's childhood memories of sound, from calling Dial-a-Prayer to hear stories over the phone to listening to to the radio under the covers at night. “I used to sleep with an AM transmitter radio under my pillow listening to ghost stories,” she recalls, “and when my friends would come over for slumber parties. I would create these elaborate radio shows.” She tells us about how developing her first podcast in 2015 helped inspire her to create Produce Your Podcast. “There are going to be some other busy consultants and business owners,” she explains, “who are going to want to have podcasts, but they're not going to want to do everything it takes to have it be a broadcast that represents the quality of their brand. And so that's when Produce Your Podcast was born.”(0:11:01) - The Power of Audio BrandingOur conversation turns to the differences between audio and video productions, and why just ripping the audio from a video production might not cut it in podcasting.“If you don't really understand the true power of audio and audio branding,” Traci notes, “then you could get lost in thinking that ‘I'm just going to do a video podcast or video recording,' or even a video webinar to a degree, ‘and I'm just going to grab the audio off of that.'” We discuss how the audio production works to bring the imagery to life for listeners, and how a podcast lacking that connection can leave its listeners cold. “That can be the point where an audience could fracture from you,” she adds, “because they don't feel connected to the conversation. So they may stay through that conversation

The True Fiction Project was born from Reenita Hora's love of fiction and how she finds it in everyday non-fiction. In the pilot episode, Reenita talks about the purpose behind the True Fiction Project which will invite amazing guests to share their unique impact on the world while also giving different fiction writers the opportunity to create new fiction narratives based on the interview. Colleague and friend, Traci DeForge, joins the conversation as Reenita shares about her many career reincarnations and her traditional Indian upbringing in Bombay. Reenita opens up about her late father and her recent decision to quit her job to pursue creative endeavors like this podcast project. The second half of the podcast features a compelling fictional story inspired by key moments in Reenita's life and her experience of being a woman and building a career in a male-dominated culture. 3 Innings - A Fictional Story in Print IN THIS EPISODE: [01:16] True Fiction explained [02:33] Podcast producer introduced [03:28] Reenita shares about her life and career history [09:40] Guests to look forward to [12:24] Reenita about her family [18:04] Women in business in traditional Indian family [22:55] Building the narrative [28:14] That's my version of the truth [30:53] First inning - Gaia and Reenita as children [35:12] Second inning - Gaia and Reenita's early careers [40:53] Third inning - Gaia and Reenita's losses and gains KEY TAKEAWAYS: Reenita's career has included several reincarnations of herself: Ayurveda clinician, freelance writing, broadcast journalism in Hong Kong, recruited as a writer by Bloomberg, and now author, podcast host, and creative content creator. She recently quit her job to pursue her creative projects, like this podcast, that marries the two things she loves: fiction and how she finds it in everyday non-fiction. Reenita shares about her father's recent passing and the values he held as a serial entrepreneur. Reenita grew up in a traditional Indian home where women were not included in the inner workings of the family business. Only recently, after her father's passing, has she been invited to sit on the board of the family business. Her role, if not to join the family business, was to document the stories of her father and family life and plans to turn them into a book or TV show. Looking back on her upbringing, she has learned now that it's not about what you are or are not supposed to think about certain things, but rather what you have experienced. The purpose of this podcast is to share interviews with guests as a way to give other storytellers an opportunity to create fiction. Featured Guest: Physician, trauma-informed wellbeing strategist, media figure and four-time bestselling author Donna L. Hamilton, MD, MS is among the countries most innovative health and well-being leaders. A trailblazer, Dr. Donna®, moved beyond her thriving career as a board-certified pediatrician so she could teach what it really means to be healthy. And she did it at a time when almost all other physicians were limiting their services to traditional clinical settings. Now, Dr. Donna® consults and speaks internationally, teaching practical strategies about becoming healthier in a way that addresses your unique needs. She's on a mission to help everyone function at their best physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, and spiritually so that we all live the healthy, satisfying lives we're meant to lead. A true thought leader, Dr. Hamilton put away her white coat and stethoscope, and now helps driven professionals move from stuck to unstoppable. Her engaging, wholistic, and trauma-informed courses and coaching inspire clients to gently take action and achieve their goals for having a happy, healthy mind, body, spirit, and life. During her career as a board-certified community pediatrician, Dr. Hamilton quickly learned the key to achieving optimal health in children: optimize the health of the adults in their lives. She frequently saw external factors such as stress, environment, and relationships impact not only her patients' health but also their caregivers. Addressing these psychosocial issues often played a major role in her patients' ability to become healthier. This prompted our health pioneer to embark on a new, non-clinical path toward improving the health of our society. Dr. Donna® now uses her expertise to teach adults how to become healthier using holistic and trauma-informed strategies. Dr. Donna® is co-founder, CEO and Chief Wellness Officer of Manifest Excellence, LLC. Her work has supported many organizations, including some on the Fortune 100 list. “When you help people take that first step, they become more confident. When they are more confident, then all of a sudden the world seems a little brighter and they can see the light at the end of the tunnel. ” Ira Wolfe The past year turned out to be very unconventional for majority of people with the work place being most affected. The outcomes of various events most especially the Covid-19 pandemic, altered the normal work routines of many if not all companies which led a large number of people moving to work remotely. The dilemma facing many leaders now is how they will move forward considering their new operating realities with regards to work locations. According to Ira Wolfe, the answer is very simple and involves managers building safe spaces for their people to work and thrive. Ira S Wolfe describes himself as a “Millennial trapped in a Baby Boomer body”. He is the president of Poised for the Future Company, founder of Success Performance Solutions, a TEDx Speaker, Top five Global Thought Leader on Future of Work and HR (Thinkers360), author of Recruiting in the Age of Googlization- https://amzn.to/3gvHAFR, and host of Geeks Geezers Googlization podcast (selected as one of the top 50 podcasts to listen to in 2021). Ira is also a frequent presenter at SHRM and business conferences and a guest on over 50 podcasts each year. His most recent book is Recruiting in the Age of Googlization- https://amzn.to/3gvHAFR, now in its 2nd edition. The book was selected as one of the top 50 books to read in 2021 by Thinkers360 and recognized as one of the best Recruiting books of all time by Book Authority. Ira is the founder of the Googlization Nation community and a frequent contributor to HR and business blogs including Cornerstone on Demand's Rework, Medium and Huff Post. He's been featured in INC Magazine, Fast Company, Business Week, American Express OPEN, NFIB, Inc., Intuit Small Business, and Fox Business. He is also the author of five other books including Perfect Labor Storm, Understanding Business Values and Motivators. In today's Episode, Ira Wolfe will discuss more about how the work environment has evolved and how managers can take advantage of the opportunities available to grow people as well as their companies. We will also discuss how to navigate through the uncertainty that characterizes the current work environment. Listen in! Social Media: LinkedIn: https://linkedIn.com/in/irawolfe LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/successperformancesolutions Twitter: https://twitter.com/hireauthority Twitter: https://twitter.com/ggg_pod FB: https://facebook.com/successperformancesolutions Instagram: https://instagram.com/googlizationnation YouTube: https://youtube.com/irawolfe I grew up in a time where people still got gold watches and people worked for a company up to 50 years in one career and sometimes in one Job. [2:37] With time it has gotten more complex. [3:00] From a company owner's perspective, it is terrifying that someone would last only three to five years, [3:19] If they can bring value to your organization and leave your organization in a better place according to the metrics, then that is okay. [3:37] In as much as companies complain that employees have no loyalty, it is them who train them to be that way. [6:22] I had a very successful practice in dentistry and when I left people wondered what I was going to do. [7:00] I developed transferable skills such as communicating with people, building teams, and critical thinking. [7:39] The thing that people overlook is about having transferable skills which are learnt through life experience. [9:22] There are no life career jobs and we can't treat people that way. [9:36] If you hire people and they contribute to what you have done and they leave your company in a better place, then that is the best you can ask for. [9:43] Very reliable research indicates that on average, two-thirds of all jobs maybe one-third automated. [11:52] The reality is one-third jobs that won't change are those that will be eliminated. [12:24] Every single person on the planet whether retail or frontline has to learn how to work with technology, because of the likelihood that most jobs are going to have a higher degree of automation. [12:48] Sixty five percent of remote workers want to stay remote, thirty three percent want to remain hybrid, and the remaining want to go back to the way things were. [15:33] Talking about managers and leaders, they were not very good before at ensuring employee engagement. [16: 20] According to Gallop, thirty percent or less of people were fully engaged at work while seventy percent were partially or fully disengaged. [16:32] If it wasn't good when they were under your nose where you could micro manage them, what is going to happen now that they are remote. [17:04] When you are at work you have to manage people, who are on site and those who are remote and it is always fluid. [18:06] It creates a huge opportunity where you can hire anyone around the world to fill those hard to fill jobs. [18:58] The down side is how you fill that safe place that they feel part of culture when they may never physically be in the same room to know their people. [19:06] Commercial Break [19:20] Everybody needs to become more adaptable where we are literally writing the rules as we go on. [21:07] We do know that there will be some form of hybrid workplace. [21:25] I spent my passion project last year and a half and it is on adaptability [22:10] I don't have a better Acronym to describe what 2020 was, Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous, and is the world we are going to live in going forward. So how do we manage that? [22:50] We work with something called the adaptability quotient [ 23:25] It identifies fifteen dimensions that impact someone's ability to change. Some are internal which refers to skills we need to have. [23:31] As leaders you have to create a company culture that makes people feel supported. [24:26] The most important that we can change include grit, resilience, mental flexibility, growth mindset and unlearning. [25:34] In order to have empathy, you need to step into other people's shoes and that calls on seeing the world from somebody else's point of view. [29:50] The five abilities are things that individuals are going to have to learn. [30:40] For leaders, the biggest challenge ahead is how do you help create a safe space? [30:58] Leaders have to help people build their confidence and gain the courage and by doing so, they will become more optimistic and hopeful about the future. [31:17] Don't let the shift hit your plans [34:15] …………………………………………………. About the guest: As a teenaged mother living on welfare back in 1994, Tanea Smith made a conscious decision that she would defy the odds and not become a statistic. She began what eventually became a 21-year career as an executive assistant on Wall Street in New York City. With the acknowledgment that gratitude and ambition can dwell in the same apartment she knew that despite having a “steady” job, the click she felt in her spirit to do and be more was too strong to ignore. After the birth of her 2nd child in 2007, she used her creativity and life experiences to create a witty and empowering stationery collection, She's Got Papers. While the “papers” were keeping America connected one handwritten note at a time, in 2013 she expanded her platform. As an inspirational speaker and transition expert, Tanea motivates, inspires and walks alongside other women who are "in the hallway," a space that she knows all too well. If one pivot was not enough, in 2021 Tanea introduced the world to "Gloria" - a journaling series that gives her pen pals life lessons, writing prompts and a blueprint for life, love and everything in between. Tanea has been featured in Essence, Ebony, More, Pen World, American Express Open, New York Live, Good Day Philadelphia, The Philadephia Inquirer, The Peacock Network and The Wendy Williams Show. Tanea has spoken at St. John's University, City College of New York, New York University and teaches workshops throughout New York City. Meet today's guest: Marla Tabaka Marla Tabaka is a small-business coach and adviser who helps entrepreneurs around the globe grow their businesses well into the millions. She has more than 25 years of experience in corporate and startup ventures and speaks widely on combining strategic and creative thinking for optimum success and happiness. Marla is a leading author at Inc.com, has appeared on Fox Business News and noteworthy publications such as American Express Open, The NY Times, TIME Business, The Huffington Post, Entrepreneur, and The Business Intelligence Report. Marla, you are a master business coach and you've been doing that for a long time. I've heard some of your success stories, how you've helped your clients. But you didn't just stumble into this career. Let the audience know how you became intertwined in the whole coaching world. It was the farthest thing from my mind. Honestly, I had a corporate career, I worked for NBC television and I really climbed the ladder there. And one day, I just decided enough. Things changed, television changed, news media changed. And I just wasn't happy anymore. I spent six months figuring out what I wanted to do when I grew up, and I didn't figure it out. So I left aimlessly without a job without a plan or anything. I did get a job pretty quickly working with a middle-market company. And I launched a new division for them doing web and kiosks development for some large clients like Sears and what was at the time of Claire's boutique. But you know what? I hated it. Here I was a year and a half into a very high paying job. And I learned a lot and did a lot but I hated it. And one day I was in this lovely, independent coffee house. And I was like, wow, I don't feel connected with my community. I've lived here in Naperville 30 some miles outside of the city of Chicago for at that point, probably 15 years. And I didn't have a sense of community and I didn't realize how much I was missing it. And so I bought the coffee house. I wanted community and so I created the community, little darling coffeehouse where musicians from literally all over the world came and artists came and people connected. And it turned into this really beautiful, wonderful space and experience. I was talking to one of my customers and he said why don't you hire a business coach. So he introduced me to Steve and I hired him and magic happened. I felt like I wasn't in this alone anymore. Yeah, someone else invested in my success. I said to him I think I want to become a coach, but I want to do something different than what you do. And I told him people need the mindset and the emotional support to and he said I couldn't agree more and you'd make an amazing coach. So I'd like to mentor you. I sold the coffee house. And I went to school and he mentored me through school sent me pro bono clients and did all that great stuff for me. My practice took off very well and I'm going on my 18th year of coaching. When I was reading your bio, you had a little snippet about the endless chatter, that goes through our minds. And how true is that? When I first started coaching, I was ready to partner with these amazing women and help them grow their businesses, but I wasn't ready for the extraordinary amount of doubt and self-confidence that they lacked, and fear of success or failure. And really, even after going through all my coaching training, I was shocked to find that because these women, by all rights were very successful, educated women, and I just didn't expect it. And so that's when I decided within my first year of coaching, I decided that I really wanted to specialize in mindset before most people even knew what the word was. When we have a negative experience in our life our nervous system actually ingrains that into itself. And so when we're up against another challenge, where self-doubt rises, then neural pathway starts firing off and offering us the same physical response in the stomach or heart or throat, whatever it is that you get, that we had back in the original days when the belief was born. And then the other thing that we have going against us and a lot of people don't know, is the brain is predisposed to negative thinking. So it's the way we're built. Here are some basic tips from Marla for when the negative stuff comes in. Tip #1 - One of the things that I noticed is that entrepreneurs are so demanding of themselves. We don't really keep track of our little wins. We don't acknowledge them enough. What I started doing years ago is every time a client sends me an email that has some sort of praise or thanks or gratitude, and it's some sort of recognition, I put it in a little special folder in my email. And I also jot down like once a week, toward the end of the week, all of the positive things that I've done that week, things that support my success and the success of others. These are small tips that make a big difference. Write a diary of your wins. And when you doubt yourself, you go back to read all of the things that you've done right. You realize what a rock star you are. Take time to celebrate. Tip #2 - Disrupt the negative loop that goes on in our brains. We have to disrupt it by doing something like changing our physiology. It's very difficult when we're really engrossed in something negative to force ourselves to get up and move around and shift something, but it's important. We have to acknowledge that there's energy in our physiology. Stand up, go garden, go take a run, go do whatever, walk around the room, pounding your chest and singing Tarzan tunes, or whatever it is, but walk that negative loop, and you will feel so much better. Tip #3 - Kick the catastrophic thinking to the curb by facing our worst-case scenarios head-on. By separating the negativity from the truth from our reality. A lot of times, our minds travel down this path of destruction, and all these terrible things are going to happen, and you speak these things out loud as if that's happening. And it is important to sit down and to really think of each of those individual thoughts and ask yourself how true they are and say it out loud. The brain needs to separate itself from the problem in order to solve it effectively. So when you write things down, or you draw pictures, or even speak out loud, the brain can step back and assimilate and give you feedback, which can be very, very helpful. It's important to remember that this thinking, the way that we blow things out of proportion is not our fault, it's the brain's natural tendency. Tip #4 - Sit down the problem or the fear or whatever it is in front of you like, another person. And so you sit down, you talk to it, like it was separate from you and you have this back and forth conversation. And it's, it feels really weird. But you'll get the answers. Do it the way your mind is going to respond best. Leesa Renee Hall is many things – activist, leader, questioner, writer, filmmaker, teacher … and she’s an old friend of mine. This free-ranging conversation covers a lot of ground, especially in the aftermath of the testimony by Dr. Ford and Judge Kavanagh in the Supreme Court hearings recently. That’s relevant because Leesa has a way for us to deal with the extraordinary emotional fallout after those events. Mainly because she is engaged in a daily practice, and teaching, something she calls ‘Expressive Writing’. She describes it as this: “By writing every morning without editing or censoring myself, a process known as expressive writing, I confronted my internal oppression, let go of the expectations others placed on me, and advocated for the person I was born to be.” According to researchers, write therapy is as beneficial as talk therapy and coaching in changing human behavior. So Leesa has tapped into this by guiding all of us in ways to become more whole through writing prompts. In this conversation, we dug into writing prompts and how they can heal everything from fat shame to unconscious racism to our shared upset over triggering media. Here’s what I learned: Why expressive writing healed Leesa … and me All the many things that can come out of tapping into our unexpressed flow of emotions How to do expressive writing – and when How Highly Sensitive People are especially suited to this practice, and who they are How to know if you’re a Highly Sensitive Introverted Leader, and what to do about it Unconscious biases and how we hold them – and how to heal them with writing prompts How white supremacy depends on a culture of perfectionism – and how that effects all of us The importance of being able to make mistakes with grace I hope you take a moment to listen. It’s a powerful, helpful conversation. We talk about how to run, take over and keep your restaurant relevant in the changing times and against the big guys. Mattone Restaurant and Bar, co-owned by Franco and Vito Francese, recently unveiled updates to the menu and completed remodels to the inside that accentuate the signature brick oven. By the end of summer 2018, the restaurant will feature an outdoor patio. Franco recently appeared on WGN’s Midday News’ ‘Lunchbreak’, The Mancow Morning show on 97.9 The Loop and on Big John and Ramblin’ Ray on WLS-890 to talk about the exciting updates to the restaurant. He has also been featured in Pizza Today, Reader’s Digest, Restaurant Insider, and American Express OPEN. The restaurant’s name is Italian for “brick”, which has become the theme for the new look. While wood-fired ovens are common these days, there is a twist with what Mattone is doing that makes them unique. Mattone offers three new wood-fired sandwiches with a delicious roll that is made from scratch. The oven is located at the front of the restaurant, and patrons can watch their sandwich be made at the time of order. The sandwich is created and fired to perfection, fresh from the oven. Their signature, wood-fired Italian rolls were discovered by accident when testing out their rustic, brick wood-fired oven. The roll is made from their signature dough, that is made in-house, which is the same dough that they use for their pizza. They also feature a new wood-fired sandwich of the month and recently rolled out their Italian take on the Canadian Poutine – garlic fries smothered in mozzarella cheese and homemade Bolognese sauce. Their menu offers Italian cuisine with a few select American cuisine favorites, including: burgers, sandwiches, and BBQ ribs, a longtime Mattone favorite. Aside from providing delicious menu options, Mattone contributes to the community by sponsoring La Grange Park Little League, organizing fundraisers for the Nazareth Father’s Club, and donating to St. Joseph’s sports programs, York Hockey Club, Divine Providence Church, and Ogden Avenue School’s pizza day, to name a few. Mattone is also a member of La Grange, La Grange Park, and Westchester’s Chamber of Commerce. The restaurant has a long family history, as it was originally owned by Franco’s father, Domenico Francese. Franco now uses the knowledge he learned from his father to bring the best cuisine possible to the community. Mattone is located at 9 E. 31st St, La Grange Park, IL 60526.
