What does it take for a friendship to last from sixth grade to midlife? In this episode of Talking Smack 415, Jamie the Great and I we dive deep into the origin story of a forever friendship that belongs to Caryn and Jen and began at Brett Harte Elementary School in Cherry Hill, New Jersey — back when Guess jeans, first bras, and hours-long phone calls ruled the world. This is a story about growing up together and navigating friendship into adulthood. And about choosing each other again and again over decades. We talk about:Talking on the phone for hours (when life was innocent and drama meant who liked who)Playing Uno for hours and chatting on the swings ( a total stranger things moment)  The time they stood up for themselves after a teacher called them “dirt bags”Getting their periods and figuring out how to use a tamponAdmiration, loyalty, and the safety of a judgment-free zone A few “mean girl” moments (because high school…) Why this relationship remains one of the most important in their livesThrough middle school memories, teenage growing pains, and adult responsibilities, what has kept them bonded is something rare: A total judgment-free zone. This episode is for anyone who:Still talks to their elementary school best friendWonders how to maintain long-term female friendshipsBelieves women need lifelong friendships to thriveIs navigating midlife and reflecting on the people who shaped themBecause sometimes the most important love story in your life… isn't romantic. It's your best friend from 6th grade.Research shows that long-term female friendships improve mental health, longevity, and emotional resilience. But what does that look like in real life?It looks like:Phone cords stretched across bedroomsSharing secrets before you even know who you areGrowing up without growing apartChoosing loyalty over egoKnowing someone has seen every version of you — and loves you anywayThis is nostalgia, vulnerability, laughter, and real talk about why female friendships are foundational — especially in midlife.Share this episode with your friends and family who love to laugh. Send us a textKids are meeting chatbots everywhere, from homework helpers to pop‑ups on websites, and many of them think the robot “feels” things. We cut through the hype with a friendly, practical guide that shows how chatbots really work, why they sometimes sound brilliant and sometimes go off the rails, and what families can do to stay curious and safe at the same time.We start by breaking down the core idea: a chatbot predicts the next word using patterns, not feelings or understanding. That simple lens explains why a bot can write a funny pizza joke yet invent a name when asked about your classroom. From there, we shift into digital safety that kids can remember: treat a chatbot like a stranger, never share personal information, and pause the moment a reply feels weird or unkind. Along the way we model the “grown‑up in the loop” rule and show how to fact‑check results so confidence never replaces care.To make it hands‑on, we share a quick kitchen‑table activity that sorts “Safe Questions” and “Not Safe Questions.” On one side, creative prompts like stories, riddles, and science facts. On the other, anything that reveals names, addresses, school details, or phone numbers. We wrap with five simple takeaways that turn into everyday habits: chatbots are not people, they make mistakes, you never share private data, you stop and tell a grown‑up when something feels off, and you can still have fun within clear boundaries. If this helped your family or classroom, subscribe for more parent‑friendly AI tips, share the episode with someone who needs it, and leave a quick review so more caregivers can find these tools. From the excitement (and fear) of driver's licenses to overnight trips and realizing that some of our kids are no longer “little,” we talk honestly about the joy, nerves, pride, and anxiety that come with each new milestone. We reflect on how motherhood evolves as our kids become more independent — and how their growth forces us to confront our own: learning to let go, redefining our roles, and holding space for nostalgia while celebrating who our children are becoming. Currently a metaphysical researcher, Taylor is an active member of the International Association of Near Death Studies, and a participant in the Monroe Institute's Voyagers program. He lives in Los Angeles. Albert's book Soul Traveler talks of his own out-of-body experiences and much more. Sometimes emails can get lost in the shuffle, but it's more likely that your story is just waiting to be scheduled. Either way, don't hesitate to reach out to me, and I'll see what I can do.EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS"...I saw a shadowy figure that was paper white.
