Ashley has been a nurse for 10 years and she is learning things that she never learned before.1:37 - Reed is 70 years old and he founded FDN over a period of time working in the clinic via environmental law. He's been a conservationist his whole life2:45 - Then he changed jobs and worked in a clinic chiropractic acupuncture wellness center - his son was going there as a high school athlete3:27 - Reed took a class in nutrition with the doctor from the clinic and he got a certificate and was able to work with the clinic's patients4:00 - He became discouraged with how many doctors the patients had seen and they weren't better yet. 5:12 - So the patients came to their alternative clinic6:15 - Reed started running labs7:05 - Reed wanted to stop the cycle of trial and error and he started to make observations that are part of the methodology that they use at FDN8:55 - The hospital is the place to go for emergencies - it's not the place to go to get Healthy. A lot of people don't want to take an active role in their healing. 9:58 - It's what you do at home that's going to help you between your visits. One of the top questions we are frequently asked here at Functional Diagnostic Nutrition on a near-daily basis is, 'What types of people/professionals go through your course?' The reality is, ANYONE can go through the FDN program as long as they have the desire to learn and study, as well as the willingness to help others and walk the walk. As expected, we have all types of people with every educational background imaginable going through our program. Historically, the FDN certification has attracted many health coaches, nutrition experts, and fitness enthusiasts. Over the last several years, though, we've seen a new wave of 'western' medicine practitioners pursuing our course. This isn't because one philosophy is bad and the other is good. What we've heard firsthand from these individuals is that they are pursuing more functional philosophies due to the increasing number of chronically ill patients who simply aren't being fully helped by western medicine alone. With all that said, we wanted to share this exciting interview with FOUR nurses (all friends) who decided to pursue the FDN program together to start a brand new business where they serve their clients using functional medicine principles. Through this interview, we hope to help in two ways: Assist other western medicine practitioners in making an informed decision as to whether our program could benefit THEM. Help the standard practitioner better understand the unique problems that our western medicine friends face daily. We hope you enjoy what will likely be our biggest interview ever (big because we have FIVE total people on this one)! On today's episode of The Health Detective Podcast, we are talking once again with a woman on a mission to help pets around the world, Dr. Ruth Roberts! Dr. Roberts was a huge hit the last time she recorded with us! She gave us all the latest insights into keeping our furry friends healthy (you can listen to that episode by clicking here), as well as how we can actually pursue a legitimate career working with people's pets through her Pet Wellness Program. Now that we have had multiple FDNs successfully go through Dr. Roberts' program with nothing but amazing things to say, we felt it was only right to have her back on to talk about he program itself. (WARNING: You'll also get Detective Ev asking a bunch of random pet related questions!) Would you like to see more of Dr. Roberts in the future? Let us know by shooting us a direct message on Instagram: @fdntraining. About Dr. Roberts: During her 30-year career as a DVM, Dr. Ruth Roberts has become one of the nation's foremost experts in holistic and integrative veterinary medicine. After graduating from North Carolina State University in 1990, Dr. Roberts began her career practicing traditional, Western medicine. The onset of simultaneous health challenges for both her and her dog Arnold, however, prompted Dr. Roberts to seek solutions outside of the traditional realm of veterinary care she had learned in her textbooks. Dr. Roberts furthered her education by absorbing the principles of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine at the Chi Institute in Florida. Her studies there would eventually form the foundation for her philosophy that “good health begins in the bowl.” She is certified in Acupuncture, Chinese Herbology and Food Therapy. In 2006, Dr. Roberts founded The Original Crockpot Diet and continues to see the dramatic results it makes in the health of her patients. She is a leading consultant in integrative veterinary medicine and advises clients in the United States and internationally through her website DrRuthRoberts.com. Dr. Ruth is on a mission to empower pet parents and foster a vibrant community, to ignite a global movement for natural pet health, led by Dr. Ruth and Holistic Pet Health Coaches. Our aim is to equip you with the tools and knowledge to champion your pet's wellbeing, making every tail wag and content purr a testament to our commitment. In this episode, we are continuing our “Intro to FDN” series! Please make sure you're listening in order so that everything makes sense. Here is the link to the FIRST episode of the series where we discuss the ONLY “diagnosis” FDN practitioners hand out, metabolic chaos: https://spotify.link/Zd5OlSW03Bb And here is the link to the SECOND episode where we discuss FDN's trademarked “DRESS” protocol: https://spotify.link/hjeSHPTZ8Bb Today, we are discussing most people's favorite part: the labs! Unlike many other functional practitioners, FDNs always start with the same set of labs on every client. You can remember these tests with the acronym HIDDEN, which stands for hormones, immune system, digestion, detoxification, energy production and nervous system. These labs were not chosen randomly or on a whim. They were carefully selected after the founder of FDN, Reed Davis, ran over 11,000 labs on clients in his own practice. After listening, we think it will be crystal clear as to how and why we still use this particular set of labs to this day. You asked, and we listened! We brought on an FDN client to tell their story and share their results. Recently, it's been suggested by quite a few people that we should start highlighting some individuals who have worked directly with FDNs, as opposed to those who are actually in the health space as practitioners. We thought this was a great idea, and will likely continue to do this in the future, too. For today, though, we brought on Lucas Wolfe, a gentleman who suffered with rather severe mental health issues starting in his late teens. For almost a decade, Lucas was getting help for his issues through western medicine. Western medicine actually DID help him to a significant degree, but he always knew in the back of his head that he'd ideally like to not rely on medications if he didn't have to. Because of this, he finally gave functional medicine a chance. It's a good thing he did, too, because when you hear how quick the results occurred, you'll be shocked in the best way possible! A huge thank you to Lucas for coming on and sharing his story when he has nothing to gain from it other than helping others. Those are the BEST types of people. We hope you enjoy this episode :). About Lucas: Lucas is currently an engineer, but has also worked as a mental health speaker. He is the author of “My Perfect Life: How Depression Almost Ended It and How I Found Purpose Through Pain". Want to help your clients get results like Lucas? The title says it all! We are back again with our lab analysis series, and this time we're covering food sensitivities. The test that we tend to use as FDNs is NOT one of the generic ones you see at your local drug store. We use a specific test that has advanced technology behind it. This technology allows us to look at HUNDREDS of different ways that the body can react to foods without spendings 10s of thousands of dollars. If you have any questions, drop them in the comments section on Podbean or message us on Instagram @fdntraining.com. Interested in becoming a certified Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner? Detective Ev has been spending some time in the FDN Trainee group, and he noticed a few common concerns coming up! He's occasionally seen things like: "I just don't think I can finish in time!" Or... "I am really having trouble in this module. I don't understand it! Maybe I'm not cut out for this work." The good news is that these are ABSOULTELY not things to worry about, but it's understandably hard to realize that when you're actively going through the course. So, in today's episode of the podcast, Detective Ev is discussing both questions listed above. Specifically, he's talking about WHY you don't need to worry, as well as the resources we provide to you as FDNs in training to help you get through the course. Finally, he goes into the top 5 (practical) reasons FDN is TOTALLY worth it despite being a tougher course. We hope you enjoy this episode! Like so many FDNs, our guest today, Dr. Piper Gibson, went through the Functional Diagnostic Nutrition certification program to understand her family member's health issues better. In this case, it was her son who had the problems. Amongst many other symptoms, he dealt with a tic disorder that was not responding well at all to conventional care. Well, a mom on a mission is a force to be reckoned with, and Dr. Gibson was on the case! After constant months and months of constant study and experimenting, she finally found the FDN course. The FDN philosophy was what finally go the needle moving for Dr. Gibson's son, and it also worked wonders for her sister, too. Because of the experiences she had, Dr. Gibson decided to choose this work as her new career. Since she started, she has been able to go completely full-time, and has a LARGE FDN business
Sachin Patel and Jenn Malecha share similar backgrounds and a friendship as FDNs, functional medicine practitioners, mentors, and coaches to practitioners. Listen in to hear how Jenn evolved from working in the corporate world to entrepreneurship and some of the stumbling blocks and barriers she overcame on the way. If you are struggling with scaling your practice and you feel burnout, Jenn has some wise counsel for you! Key Takeaways: [1:02] Sachin welcomes listeners to today's episode! This is a special interview with Jenn Malecha, a functional diagnostic nutritionist and a mentor to practitioners. Jenn and Sachin have known each other for years through the FDN organization and MindShare, a mastermind group. Jenn transforms lives through her work. [2:54] Jenn recalls how she moved from the corporate world into the healthcare space, including her journey from kinesiology through fitness, corporate wellness, to functional diagnostic nutrition. Functional diagnostic nutrition helped Jenn restore her health! [6:03] Jenn explains what held her back from entrepreneurship for a couple of years. Self-doubt and the lack of support from a friend played roles. She finally found her voice and broke through her fears. [10:33] Jenn overcame impostor syndrome and began coaching other practitioners. How did she do it? Jenn is process-oriented, and that helps. As she found great success building her practice, other practitioners asked her for mentorship. Now mentorship is her primary focus! The more practitioners Jenn helps, the more patients there will be to receive the benefits. [16:14] Jenn tells how she developed as a business coach and mentor through the Health Coach Institute and MindShare365. How can practitioners market their services to clients who have lost trust in the medical community, in general? Jenn shares her thoughts and describes her first MindShare Summit. [21:14] The greatest lesson Sachin learned from MindShare is that people we hold in the highest regard make mistakes. It was so powerful to learn how they owned those mistakes. Then Sachin wasn't afraid to make mistakes. What's important is how you handle your mistakes. [24:39] Jenn discusses the root problem practitioners have: There is a lack of clarity around their niche. The niche piece is so important to help streamline, scale, and grow your business. If practitioners don't know their niche, they have trouble getting started and then burn out instead of scaling. [28:48] Jenn tells how she experienced a setback in her business by attracting clients with a victim mentality. Jenn had to revise her marketing to come from a place of empowerment. She had to understand who the client was, not just the condition they had. [30:56] The other big piece is to get business systems in place. The process of tracking a client needs to be systemized. If you do it manually, it takes so much labor for each client. Use that time instead, for working with your clients. There are lots of moving parts in functional medicine and it is overwhelming to track them all by hand. [35:02] Jenn tells about setting up for the discovery call. Jenn coaches practitioners on client retention and engagement. Your business is only as stable as your patient retention. [36:51] The advice Jenn wishes she'd gotten when she was starting. (This process would have saved her so much time, energy, and money!) [39:13] Sachin thanks Jenn Malecha for shining light on her journey, invites her to share her links with the audience, and signs off until the next episode. Here's what we covered! 1. Hey! Anyone got any thoughts on Intelligent Allapathy (Group A) for belching/burping - Seems to come up alot in our practical clients.. is it just a digestion symptom? Is there anything else than digestive enzymes that you would suggest? 2. Can Brendan and Brandon address “OTHER” possible protocols for dealing with gut pathogens for those who are reactive to Biocidin or precluded from using because of allergies or sensitivity (Black walnut, tea tree, garlic, mushrooms, oregano)! Christina had a post yesterday about this situation and neither clinic nor other FDNs offered suggestions. 3. Caller: First client, male, high stress. If on a budget, what do I test? 4.
