Elon Musk's DOGE crew continues to shine a light on how our federal government operates, and it is exposing more climate grift than even the most cynical among us could have imagined. The latest involves the EPA giving failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams $2 billion to expand "clean energy by prioritizing housing, equity, and resilience." Her organization, Power Forward Communities, says it will install heat pumps, solar panels, EV chargers, and other "green" technology. Does Abrams have any expertise in this field? No. In fact, her organization incorporated itself with $100 in the bank just months before receiving $2 billion of our tax money. The Washington Free Beacon also reported this week that the man Biden put in charge of the EPA's "Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund" funneled $5 billion to his former employer, something called the Coalition for Green Capital. The climate grifters are being exposed, and the EPA is trying to claw these billions of dollars back. But how deep does the corruption go? We're bringing in Steve Milloy of the Energy and Environmental Legal Institute, an EPA transition team member in Trump's first term, to get a handle on it. The Heartland Institute's Anthony Watts, H. Sterling Burnett, Linnea Lueken, and Jim Lakely will also cover some of the Crazy Climate News of the Week, including a look at NOAA data showing the second-biggest month-to-month temperature drop since 2009.

It's potentially one of the most important — but least understood — provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act, and it's finally out in the world. Last month, the Environmental Protection Agency spent $27 billion to set up new green banks across the country. These new lending institutions could direct billions of dollars to supercharging decarbonization, financing new solar farms, geothermal projects, EV chargers, and more. They'll also recycle their funding indefinitely, meaning they will likely last longer than any other provision in the law. On this week's show, Rob and Jesse bring you a user's guide to these new green banks and what they might mean for decarbonization. The episode features two conversations: First, Rob speaks with Jahi Wise, the former director for the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund program at the Environmental Protection Agency. Second, Rob and Jesse chat with Dawn Lippert, the founder and CEO of Elemental Impact, a climate tech investment and nonprofit organization. Shift Key is hosted by Robinson Meyer, the founding executive editor of Heatmap, and Jesse Jenkins, a professor of energy systems engineering at Princeton University.Mentioned: The EPA's $27 billion GGRF announcementThe three big new green banks: Climate United, Coalition for Green Capital, Power Forward CommunitiesElemental's $100 million in new funding from GGRFJesse's upshift (and the new facility in Flint, Michigan); Rob's upshift.--This episode of Shift Key is sponsored by …Watershed's climate data engine helps companies measure and reduce their emissions, turning the data they already have into an audit-ready carbon footprint backed by the latest climate science. Hello and welcome to our special Ethical Investment Week (EIW) podcast! The theme for EIW 2021 is Wayfinding for ethical investment. In its simplest definition, wayfinding is about observing the natural world in order to work out your location, orient yourself towards your destination, set a course to get you there, then dynamically respond to signs as you journey. Wayfinding is as relevant for our times as it has been throughout history. By drawing upon ancient wisdom, modern wayfinders hold insights that can make a big difference for ethical investors and a sustainable future. On that basis, who better to talk to about rich Aboriginal cultural traditions than Kado Muir! Kado is Chair of the First Nations Heritage Protection Alliance and the National Native Title Council. He is a Ngalia Traditional Owner and a Wati – a Goldfields Aboriginal cultural and community leader, and an anthropologist/archaeologist with many years' experience working in Aboriginal heritage, language preservation and maintenance, traditional ecological, education and native title research. Kado also operates a number of businesses including an Aboriginal art business, a Sandalwood company, and a heritage consultancy business. He is a long-time activist for bilingual and two way education, environmental and cultural heritage protection and promoting alternative community based enterprises, especially through his PhD university partnerships for research on Wealth in First Nations. On 24 May 2020, Rio Tinto destroyed a site that represented 46,000 years of culture and history for the Puutu Kunti Kurrama and Pinikura (PKKP) peoples of the Pilbara in Western Australia. The blast devastated a place of personal, community, national and international significance. People around the globe responded with shock and outrage. In talking to Kado, there's so much more to the story than this incident. Perhaps it's the straw that broke the camel's back, but we have so much work to do to understand cultural heritage protection. What is Free, Prior and Informed Consent? What do know about the sites we are destroying? I learnt a lot from Kado, and I couldn't let him go without giving us a dreamtime story – so make sure you stick around to the end for that! You can find Kado on LinkedIn & http://www.kadomuir.com.au To learn more about ethical investment week, please visit www.ethicaladvisercoop.com.au   For more information about James Baird and JustInvest Financial Planning see: www.justinvest.net.au  We wish to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we recorded on, the Wardandi Noongar people. There's a massive gap between the amount of investment needed to make the climate transition happen and what is occurring today. In this episode of ESG Insider, we explore the role that green banks can play in plugging that funding gap. Green banks can differ in scope and approach but are generally created to leverage government funds to mobilize private investment in clean and resilient infrastructure on the local scale. They exist in many parts of the world, including Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Switzerland, the U.S. and the U.K. In the episode, we'll hear from Reed Hundt, co-founder, chairman and CEO of the Coalition for Green Capital, which has helped organize a number of green banks and is pressing the U.S. Congress to create a federal green bank. And we'll look at how the first state-level green bank in the U.S. — the Connecticut Green Bank — has evolved since forming in 2011. We talk with Connecticut Green Bank President and CEO Bryan Garcia, who tells us: “Our goal is to demonstrate to the ... capital markets that this is a safe area of investment, and we're willing to put our capital at risk in front of you to do that.” Photo credit: Getty Images

In the last few weeks, we've seen numerous events with implications for how to think about the twin challenges of developing the energy resources we need while also protecting our public lands, curbing climate change, and protecting the environment. There have been setbacks for three major U.S. pipeline projects, all rooted in flaws that courts found in environmental review processes; a new announcement by  President Trump about a “top to bottom overhaul” of the nation’s environmental review process, a cornerstone of the landmark environmental law President Nixon signed half a century ago; and ambitious new plans announced by Vice President Biden to dramatically increase clean energy investments.  In this edition of Columbia Energy Exchange, host Jason Bordoff is joined by David J. Hayes to discuss what all these changes might mean for energy infrastructure projects on federal lands moving forward, along with other issues like what’s next for clean energy and climate policy, how states are responding to the Trump administration’s recent environmental rollbacks, and much more.  David J. Hayes is an environmental, energy and natural resources lawyer who leads the State Energy and Impact Center at the NYU School of Law, which supports state attorneys general in their advocacy for clean energy, climate and environmental laws and policies. David previously served as the Deputy Secretary at the U.S. Department of the Interior for President Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. “Life is good when you make money.” – Nitin Shakdher In this episode of the Invest In You Podcast, Fredrik chats with Nitin Shakdher, the Founder and CEO of Green Capital, about investments. For almost 20 years, Nitin has been helping individuals and institutions growing their investments. He shares with us how he manages to stay at the top of his game despite the stress his work brings. Discover how he finds time to bond with his family every night, in addition to the overseas trips he makes on almost every quarter of the year. Nitin also lets you in some if his trading and investing philosophies which has been proven to have helped him. KEY TAKEAWAYS Nitin has been an investor since 1998 – investing in equity markets. He says investing can be easy as long as you are in control and you know what you want to do at some point in time. This also gives you the benefit of enjoying other things in life, as well. What does Nitin do when he’s not working? Nitin plays golf and reads a lot of books. He sees to it that he’s always updated of what’s happening around him. He also enjoys walking around the cities when it’s good weather. Nitin sees to it that he makes time for his family. When he goes home to see them, he makes sure that there should be no work that will get in the way of their family bonding. Nitin, not only works with individuals but also institutions. He works with a variety of people – from business entrepreneurs to sports stars to fashion designers. When it comes to investments, these professionals are still not clear of what to do so Nitin is there to guide them. A lot of investors prioritize emotional IQ rather than financial IQ. Financial investors have to be emotionally stable. You don’t have to equip yourself with all the financial knowledge to succeed. Nitin’s #1 Rule on trading: Do a risk assessment so if it comes to the point that it doesn’t work, you’re able to hold your position for 7-8 years. Always think that it is a long-term investment. Nitin’s perfect office doesn’t involve fanciness and intricacies. He’s okay with just his laptop, WiFi with high-speed internet, and maybe a drink on his hand at the beach. Nitin’s insights on Blockchain and cryptocurrencies in India: cryptocurrencies will not necessarily replace physical cash in the near future. Blockchain as a technology can be adapted in the future. BEST MOMENTS “Like all family men, it’s very tough to balance certain things because sometimes, in the evening, your mind is in different space and your family demands attention… I try to switch it on and off. I don’t take too much work or stress home. It’s good to have it well-balanced and to open your world to different things.” “Sometimes, investment professionals and the people in the finance industry get very involved with the whole attribute of the whole space and what happens. Then, we stopped realizing that there are other things to life as well.” “You need to be disciplined, you need to be emotionally strong, you need to look at the larger picture, you should be willing to risk your capital, and you should know what you are doing at all times.” “It’s easy to look at good times… everyone thinks it’s a party, and everyone enjoys it, but you have to be a good investor to stick to the bad times. And you can’t be a great investor if you haven’t seen crashes in the market.” “It’s important to travel once every 2-3 months because when you travel, you come out from your own individual work perspective and you look at the world with a different perspective.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Family Office Club Green Capital ABOUT THE GUEST Nitin Shakder is a professional investor and the Founder & CEO at Green Capital, a private capital investments firm and a multi-family office. Forward-thinking investors have long known of the risks associated not just with climate change but with related systemic risks to long-term prosperity such as water scarcity and inequality of opportunity. In response, France has introduced an Energy Transition Law that includes regulations requiring investors to align their portfolios with a 2°C world. Different global financial centres are now also bidding to become centres of green finance. Growing questions are now being asked about when Europe will get on the front foot and capitalise on this momentum. Actions seem ever more urgent, given that the European Systemic Risk Board and the Dutch Central Bank have both expressed concerns about the threat of climate change to financial stability in Europe. Furthermore, the G20 and Financial Stability Board are due to report this year both on Green Finance and on climate-related financial disclosures. Bristol has been named as Europe's Green Capital for 2015. Tom Heap finds out if local people will see real improvements in their city. Trapeze artists and a high wire act on a bicycle, spanning two former warehouses, heralded the start of Bristol's Year as European Green Capital for 2015. The award is a few years old now and goes to a city with outstanding green credentials and ambitions. So how is Bristol shaping up for it's year in the big green spotlight? A year ago Costing The Earth asked what the award meant, and how it would impact and improve the lives of Bristolians along with those living around the city. Now the award is here, so Tom Heap investigates whether there is substance beyond the stunts, gimmicks and planned festivals: are there radical plans afoot to put the environment in the forefront of Bristolians' minds? Solar Panels are appearing on roofs of council buildings across the city, projects and grants encouraging residents to insulate their homes are in full swing. Wildlife corridors are springing up, provision and distribution of sustainable food is gathering pace. There's an education programme featuring Shaun The Sheep for school children, piloting in Bristol and available nationwide from September but the city cannot ignore it's major problem: the traffic. Bristol has some of the worst congestion in the UK, and with that congestion comes poor air quality, and this ultimately costs lives. Costing The Earth asks if Bristol's traffic conundrums are solveable and if, after being green capital for a year, the number of deaths in the city caused as a direct result of air pollution, will fall.
