This week we talk with Hannah Rose Weber and Nate Lada, two of the owners at Green Things Farm Collective in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Green Things is a majority women-owned farm business that has evolved out of several businesses. Nate and his wife Jill first started Green Things farm in 2011 at a local farm incubator program. Then they purchased 64 acres where the farm is now settled. In 2020, Green Things joined with Ann Arbor Seed Company and the Land Loom to expand production, share management of running a diverse farm business and develop a model of sustainable, cooperative, and responsible farming. They offer seasonal vegetables and flowers to their local markets through various channels as well as beef. Hannah takes the lead on market, sales and personnel development. Nate leads vegetable production, infrastructure and production systems innovation. They are joined by a crew of dedicated farmers, including Jill Lada and Michelle Brosius who are also co-owners. For the final episode of the season, WOA switches modes and becomes the movie review source you didn't know you needed. We have folks from the Fairview Day Program, Jimmy Parnell and Hannah Rose, come down to join hosts Matt Moore and Trent Denson. In addition, Waves Early Learning Program Director Regina Wilson and her son Eric Wilson, who is a part of the Waves Employment Program, join the episode. Everyone sits down and reviews the movie Champions, starring Woody Harrelson. Champions released this year and tells the story of a former minor-league basketball coach who is assigned a court order to manage a team of basketball players with intellectual disabilities. We couldn't think of a better team to review Champions than our Waves Adults who can offer an honest opinion on whether the film accurately portrayed the community of disabilities. Employers are trying to retain their workers and combat the Great Resignation in numerous ways, from giving raises to investing in mental health programs. While that can certainly help with retention, there is an issue that persistently drives away talent: a bad boss. According to our 2022 Talent Retention Report, 43.7% of workers who changed jobs did so because they were unhappy with their manager, even more than unsatisfactory pay (41.2%).On today's episode of Find Your Niche: A Career Podcast, host Lori Cole addresses the harmful effects of a bad boss and how one causes a toxic work environment. “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.” Matthew 25:35 Kathleen Tong joins us on the podcast today to tell us about how she has been using the method of The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in her work in Prison Ministry and the response she has witnessed in our brothers and sisters that she serves there. Kathleen began her work in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in 2003. She serves as a catechist at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Boerne, Texas and most recently was in the Level III atrium. She is a member of the 2014 CGS-MAPS Cohort at the Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis. She currently serves as a Certified Volunteer Chaplain's Assistant (CVCA) for the Texas Department of Corrections Connally Unit in Kenedy, Texas. Kathleen was invited to introduce Catechesis of the Good Shepherd to offenders of the Catholic community who facilitate RCIA in 2019. Additionally, she serves as Secretary and director on the board of Kolbe Prison Ministries and is a member of the San Antonio Kolbe CORE team. She is also the mom of a 22 year old daughter, Hannah Rose, who grew up a child of the atrium. In The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, we have 32 Points of Reflection that are intended to represent the principal aspects of the catechesis as they have developed after more than sixty five years of work with children of different countries, cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. Kathleen's work of using CGS in her prison ministry work is a great example of characteristic #26 in action: The primary commitment of the catechist is working with the children in the atrium; however, this commitment also leads the catechist to be open to the needs of the catechesis in general and making him/her responsive to other forms of service which can be necessary. There is a Summer Catechist Study Day coming up on August 16th from 7-9pm ET. This is for CGSUSA members.
