If There's One Thing I've Learned From Losing a Son, It's Empathy When you're hurting, you don't need someone to try to "fix it." Someone needs to listen, someone needs to try to get it. Someone needs to be open and share what’s real, to be there. Lisa got to where she would tell me, “Don’t try to fix me; just feel me.” Here are some thoughts on how to close the empathy gap between you and others, which will help you redeem whatever you're going through and make it better.

So let’s dig into it, and with anything related to the Christian life, the Word of God has to be our final authority. Psalm 18:30 (NKJV)As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven. Psalm 19 God’s word is perfect, sure, right, true, everlasting, to be desired more than gold. Psalm 119:89 (NKJV)Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven. Psalms 119:105 (NKJV)Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. John 6:63 (NKJV)The words I speak to you are spirit and they are life. John 15:7 (NKJV)If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. One of the first things a Christian has to embrace is that our born again nature is spiritual. We literally become a new creations in Him. But we still express ourselves through our human nature. 1 Corinthians 14 reminds us, God is not the author of confusion, but brings us into harmony. So as we break down this truth, first things first, God's rule when it comes to any truth in the bible that we're unsure of;1 Corinthians 13:1 (NKJV) Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. At the end of the day, as with any other truth from God, there is an element of faith involved. The overwhelming majority of everything concerning spiritual language comes out of the Apostle Paul's writings. Which by the way, are all 100% inspired by the Holy Spirit. And for all those who think tongues is nothing more than some emotional state of mind for some small, out of balance, uneducated, radical group, the apostle Paul, who covers this subject extensively, graduated from one of the most recognized educational programs of his day. An elite Pharisee. One of history's most respected and quoted thinkers. Writing more than half the New Testament. 1 Corinthians 14:18 (NKJV)I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all. What's really sad is that most of the people that so strongly oppose speaking a spiritual language, quote Paul's writings in all there other Christian beliefs and teachings. Keep in mind, with any other truth from God, there is an element of faith involved. Mark 9:23 (NKJV)Jesus said to him, If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.(MSG) “Jesus said, “If? There are no ‘ifs’ among believers. Anything can happen.Every biblical account of tongues was done through the cooperation of believers. The same Holy Spirit that came to empower The Church at its birth is still here and hasn't changed.Peters first sermon was to a group of confused people who just witnessed spiritual language. And the first thing he does is take them back to the Word. Always remember, there is no spiritual reality outside the support of God's Word. Here's the thing, after God introduces this spiritual reality, there's not one scripture suggestion it was only for a season, or that it wasn't to continue until He returns for His church. If you think about it, according to the Bible, spiritual language is just as scriptural as the new birth, heaven, grace...Regardless of your view on this matter, something we should all keep in mind; spiritual language is God's idea. No man made it up. 1 Corinthians 14:1-2 (NKJV)Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.(MSG) If you praise Him in the private language of tongues, God understands you but no one else does, for you are sharing intimacies just between you and Him. The primary purposes of a spiritual language are:1. Personal praise and worship.2. Self-edification. (Jude 20, Building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.)3. Praying out divine secrets.4. Public exhortation.1 Corinthians 14:4-5 (NKJV)He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification. This passage simply distinguishes the public and private application of a spiritual language. 1 Corinthians 14:13-16 (NKJV)Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say? Paul makes it very clear that praying in his spiritual language is simply praying from his spirit, not his intellect.Something else I would point out here, individually or corporately, we see no signs of hysteria or abnormalities.Let me also add this; spiritual language is not an escape from reality, or some self-induced state of mind. It is 100% spiritual, and completely scriptural. 1 Corinthians 14:18-19 (NKJV)I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all; yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue. 1 Corinthians 14:32 (NIV)The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets. For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself.

[Intro: 18:30] In this episode, I speak with independent investigative journalist Cory Morningstar. We discuss her extensive six-act exposé ‘The Manufacturing of Greta Thunberg — For Consent,’ published at Wrong Kind of Green, which examines the non-profit industrial complex and its relationship with contemporary climate activism, in particular youth climate activists like 16-year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg. Youth climate activism and environmental activism, in general, has been co-opted by powerful monied interests in order to roll out the Fourth Industrial Revolution — “a fusion of technologies that is blurring the lines between the physical, digital and biological spheres”* — which includes the financialization of nature, part of the "New Deal for Nature" — which will “create the most spectacular opportunity for monetary gain that the financial sector has ever witnessed.” Cory’s incredibly detailed research uncovers the complex network of capitalist-backed non-profits, tech startups, and corporations that are pushing for a radical transformation of the global capitalist system, under the pretense of saving the environment and averting the worst impacts of anthropogenic climate change. By examining the forces that surround and promote youth climate activists, Cory is able to tease out the larger agenda at play here. “Today’s climate emergency mobilization must be recognized for what it is: a strategically orchestrated campaign financed and managed by the world’s most powerful institutions – for the preservation of capitalism and global economic growth.” By using the youth, who are understandably concerned about the climate crisis, the global capitalist elite are attempting to “generate popular demand from the citizenry that will in turn support the legislation required for projects that serve to benefit industry, rather than people and planet,” including the revitalization of the stagnate global economy by unlocking “approx. 90 trillion dollars for new investments and infrastructure” in order to fund the Fourth Industrial Revolution. “We have reached the Brave New Moment where there is no longer a distinction between our “movements” and the corporate forces that have been created to further our oppression and servitude – all in compliance to economic growth and capitalism for the world’s ruling class. All of this to be achieved on the backs of the most vulnerable – our youth. Hegemonic forces are salivating over the global waves of youth mobilization demanding action on climate change.” We unpack these claims and Cory's research in this episode. Cory Morningstar is an independent investigative journalist, writer and environmental activist, focusing on global ecological collapse and political analysis of the non-profit industrial complex. She resides in Canada. Her recent writings can be found on Wrong Kind of Green, The Art of Annihilation, and Counterpunch. Her writing has also been published by Bolivia Rising and Cambio, the official newspaper of the Plurinational State of Bolivia. *http://bit.ly/2Z9qToU Episode Notes: - Begin reading ‘The Manufacturing of Greta Thunberg — For Consent’ series at Wrong Kind of Green: http://bit.ly/ForYourConsent - Read Cory’s work at her website: http://www.theartofannihilation.com - Support Cory on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/CoryMorningstar - This episode features audio from these sources: https://youtu.be/M7dVF9xylaw || https://youtu.be/77SPFSW9bHc - This episode features the songs “Detroit's New Dance Show (Instrumental)” and “Scum (Instrumental)” by Black Milk from the album If There's a Hell Below Instrumentals. Not For Human Consumption: Your drunken weekly update on all the things! Movies, games, life, and everything in between! If you're new to the show, WELCOME! We celebrate this 40th episode milestone HARD, so buckle up. Allan and Dave are given the names "Slow Rogan" and "Hung Jamie" respectively. Dave has to give a sincere apology for his drunken behavior last week, even though it was mild in comparison to anything Allan has done in the past.  We talk about how bad Maddox lost both in the past and during the week. We used his voting system for the Super Podcast Champion Edition Turbo competition, but someone used bots to 'enhance' the votes. Either Maddox locked the polls or the bots broke it. While this is going on, Dick Masterson took back the iTunes feed Maddox was using and added a special message to the newest episode of The Best Debate In The Universe. As for the competition, the results are in! We recorded this episode before anyone knew who won. Allan went on episode 116 of The Dick Show to discuss the results. Maybe we're on http://cunt.media now, check it out!  How much more of a life are vegans going to have in comparison to use meat eaters? Dead animal is delicious. Matt tricks a vegan co-worker into eating a meat-filled burrito. Allan is pretty clueless when it comes to soy products, but Dave seems to be pretty OK with that worthless sustenance.  There's tons of murder in video games, but hardly any sex. Even when there is a hint of banging it's super mild. Dave seems to remember a scene in 'GTA: Vice City' that featured a decent scene, but the jury is out on this still. Dylan's on his Meriod this week. The Blue Martini nightclub in Vegas is apparently the place to be on a Thursday night. He witnesses real-time #MeToo-ing that turns into making out. Finally, we get some "Shiver Me Tinders" that's a rollercoaster of a time.  Allan and Dylan record a bonus episode and they talk a bunch of shit about Dave. He'll never hear what we said because he's subscribe to our Patreon.  Almost all of us are now deep into Street Fighter V. Matt coaches Allan and Dylan while spectating. Hang out with us if you're on Playstation 4! Also, The Death of Superman, Matt's waifu and the anime series he endorses.  "Hey, Look at This!" is action packed this week! Featuring a child demanding money, a VHS tape that teaches women how to defend themselves against rapists, biting the dick off terrorists,a guy explaining why women should seek men with long hair, and brake checking a girl dancing while she dances next to a slow moving car.  For "What Makes Dave Mad This Week?" we've got a Vegan tasting his out cum to see what it tastes like and The Social Justice Warrior Song.  At last, Allan answers to The Garlic Challenge. Many episodes ago, Allan ate two raw garlic cloves on the show. Charlie, a listener of the show and FB Group member, ate twelve cloves on a Facebook Live and challenged Allan to eat more than him. Can he eat thirteen cloves without dying? Finally, some excellent voicemails. Boners! For this episode, Cynthia Jones and I speak with Liyah Babayan - local entrepreneur, business owner, activist, and Armenian refugee. In this conversation, Liyah goes over her life story - framing it within the cultural/historical/political framework of her home country of Azerbaijan, where she had spent much of her early childhood, before fleeing with her family from severe persecution and mass genocide. In the late 80’s and into the early 90’s, a pogrom was enacted against ethnic Armenians in the city of Baku (the nation’s capital and Liyah’s place of birth), as well as in surrounding areas, resulting in the expulsion, and mass murder, of thousands of Armenians - in what has been described as the Baku Pogrom: “From January 12, 1990, a seven-day pogrom broke out against the Armenians civilian population in Baku during which Armenians were beaten, tortured, murdered, and expelled from the city. There were also many raids on apartments, robberies and arsons. According to the Human Rights Watch reporter Robert Kushen, ‘the action was not entirely (or perhaps not at all) spontaneous, as the attackers had lists of Armenians and their addresses.’”* Liyah describes what her, and her family, experienced as Armenians during this horrendous act of mass violence perpetuated against the Armenian population in Baku. In particular, Liyah discusses how this experience profoundly impacted her development as an individual, having to bear the weight of indescribable trauma through adolescence and into adulthood - all while living as a refugee in the United States, with all the social pressures, barriers, and freedoms that come with that. Because of Liyah’s unique perspective, she is able to perceive and understand social and political trends within the United States that most people, particularly U.S. citizens, are unable to recognize. We discuss what those trends are, and how much they resemble, or don’t resemble, the social and political conditions experienced in her home country of Azerbaijan. We discuss the trauma that has been inflicted upon the Armenian people over the past century, and how this knowledge informs Liyah’s perspective of what it means to live in United States, in time and place we find ourselves in. This is a wide-ranging discussion, and I thank Liyah for her candid and articulate overview of the subjects discussed in this episode. This is the third episode in a series of interviews and conversations with individuals who, whether they officially or not fall under the category, are refugees. These episode are done in collaboration with Cynthia Jones, Artistic Director of the Inspirata Dance Project, for an upcoming production that will feature segments of these recordings. Liyah Babayan is a local entrepreneur, activist, Armenian refugee, and the owner of Ooh La La! consignment boutique in Twin Falls, Idaho. She is the author of a memoir titled ‘Liminal,’ release forthcoming. *Source: http://bit.ly/2u4on5H Episode Notes: - Learn more about Liyah’s upcoming book ‘Liminal’ here: http://bit.ly/2MX9okW - Learn more about Liyah and her consignment boutique Ooh La La! here: http://oohlala-shop.com - Follow Ooh La La! on Facebook: http://bit.ly/2u4ozlr - The songs featured in this episode are “Wake Up (Instrumental)” by Black Milk from the album Black and Brown Instrumentals, and “What It’s Worth” by Black Milk from the album If There’s a Hell Below. - Podcast website: https://www.lastborninthewilderness.com - Support the podcast: PATREON: www.patreon.com/lastborninthewilderness ONE-TIME DONATION: www.ko-fi.com/lastborninthewilderness - Follow and listen: SOUNDCLOUD: www.soundcloud.com/lastborninthewilderness ITUNES: www.goo.gl/Fvy4ca GOOGLE PLAY: https://goo.gl/wYgMQc STITCHER: https://goo.gl/eeUBfS - Social Media: FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com/lastborninthewildernesspodcast TWITTER: www.twitter.com/lastbornpodcast INSTAGRAM: www.instagram.com/patterns.of.behavior

John is off finding himself in some wild west town or some bullshit, so staff writer Zach Milkis and fellow book enthusiast joins Kate this week. They talk “Deadgar Weekend” (™ John)  and try to wrest a tiny bit of joy out of what was truly a remarkable suckfest, with mixed results. Speaking of suckfests, Zach and Kate revisit their Curse of the Amazon and ponder if that's the reason for the Mariners' recent struggles. They also make fun of Parker Bridwell’s name for a while, because you make fun of things so they can't hurt you, and discuss the Orioles series, which was...a win? We guess? The duo take a moment out to appreciate the Mariners' women in baseball night, and then look over the upcoming series. Hint: here be dragons. But there might be good things coming in Haniger's return (which might mean bad things for Ben Gamel), Marco Gonzales might be fun, and Emilio Pagan (aka Zach's homeboy) definitely is. Other topics include: book shaming, Matt Christopher, the potential for a Mark Twain/Joyce Carol Oates twitter takedown, and how Jerry Dipoto might sign a ten-foot alligator (only if it had options, natch.) For some reason, Kate discusses the 1995 film Showgirls on not one, but multiple occasions. If There Is Hell Below...

Whilst editing this new music podcast, it really struck me that this was an odd pod. Rob and Callum will have these - every so often the mood is a little stranger, the tangents odder, even the editing (or lack thereof) is a little off-key – it makes for one of those ‘for the purists’ If There’s Hell Below podcasts. We hope you enjoy it; the music is pretty good, at least. And what about that music: there’s some power pop from Boa Constrictors, some garage rock from Duke of Surl, sophispotopop from Bunny – stuff you can rely on, a musical safety rail. There’s also some nice lap steel guitar instros from Eerie Gaits, 70s west coast rock from Theo Verney and post punk from The Sticks, along with other musical delights. If you love this podcast, you’re a good egg… So give us 5 itunes stars.

Mark 9 (MSG) 9 Then he drove it home by saying, “This isn’t pie in the sky by and by. Some of you who are standing here are going to see it happen, see the kingdom of God arrive in full force.” In a Light-Radiant Cloud 2-4 Six days later, three of them did see it. Jesus took Peter, James, and John and led them up a high mountain. His appearance changed from the inside out, right before their eyes. His clothes shimmered, glistening white, whiter than any bleach could make them. Elijah, along with Moses, came into view, in deep conversation with Jesus. 5-6 Peter interrupted, “Rabbi, this is a great moment! Let’s build three memorials—one for you, one for Moses, one for Elijah.” He blurted this out without thinking, stunned as they all were by what they were seeing. 7 Just then a light-radiant cloud enveloped them, and from deep in the cloud, a voice: “This is my Son, marked by my love. Listen to him.” 8 The next minute the disciples were looking around, rubbing their eyes, seeing nothing but Jesus, only Jesus. 9-10 Coming down the mountain, Jesus swore them to secrecy. “Don’t tell a soul what you saw. After the Son of Man rises from the dead, you’re free to talk.” They puzzled over that, wondering what on earth “rising from the dead” meant. 11 Meanwhile they were asking, “Why do the religion scholars say that Elijah has to come first?” 12-13 Jesus replied, “Elijah does come first and get everything ready for the coming of the Son of Man. They treated this Elijah like dirt, much like they will treat the Son of Man, who will, according to Scripture, suffer terribly and be kicked around contemptibly.” There Are No Ifs 14-16 When they came back down the mountain to the other disciples, they saw a huge crowd around them, and the religion scholars cross-examining them. As soon as the people in the crowd saw Jesus, admiring excitement stirred them. They ran and greeted him. He asked, “What’s going on? What’s all the commotion?” 17-18 A man out of the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought my mute son, made speechless by a demon, to you. Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and goes stiff as a board. I told your disciples, hoping they could deliver him, but they couldn’t.” 19-20 Jesus said, “What a generation! No sense of God! How many times do I have to go over these things? How much longer do I have to put up with this? Bring the boy here.” They brought him. When the demon saw Jesus, it threw the boy into a seizure, causing him to writhe on the ground and foam at the mouth. 21-22 He asked the boy’s father, “How long has this been going on?” “Ever since he was a little boy. Many times it pitches him into fire or the river to do away with him. If you can do anything, do it. Have a heart and help us!” 23 Jesus said, “If? There are no ‘ifs’ among believers. Anything can happen.” 24 No sooner were the words out of his mouth than the father cried, “Then I believe. Help me with my doubts!” 25-27 Seeing that the crowd was forming fast, Jesus gave the vile spirit its marching orders: “Dumb and deaf spirit, I command you—Out of him, and stay out!” Screaming, and with much thrashing about, it left. The boy was pale as a corpse, so people started saying, “He’s dead.” But Jesus, taking his hand, raised him. The boy stood up. 28 After arriving back home, his disciples cornered Jesus and asked, “Why couldn’t we throw the demon out?” 29 He answered, “There is no way to get rid of this kind of demon except by prayer.” 30-32 Leaving there, they went through Galilee. He didn’t want anyone to know their whereabouts, for he wanted to teach his disciples. He told them, “The Son of Man is about to be betrayed to some people who want nothing to do with God. They will murder him. Three days after his murder, he will rise, alive.” They didn’t know what he was talking about, but were afraid to ask him about it. So You Want First Place? 33 They came to Capernaum. When he was safe at home, he asked them, “What were you discussing on the road?” 34 The silence was deafening—they had been arguing with one another over who among them was greatest. 35 He sat down and summoned the Twelve. “So you want first place? Then take the last place. Be the servant of all.” 36-37 He put a child in the middle of the room. Then, cradling the little one in his arms, he said, “Whoever embraces one of these children as I do embraces me, and far more than me—God who sent me.” 38 John spoke up, “Teacher, we saw a man using your name to expel demons and we stopped him because he wasn’t in our group.” 39-41 Jesus wasn’t pleased. “Don’t stop him. No one can use my name to do something good and powerful, and in the next breath cut me down. If he’s not an enemy, he’s an ally. Why, anyone by just giving you a cup of water in my name is on our side. Count on it that God will notice. 42 “On the other hand, if you give one of these simple, childlike believers a hard time, bullying or taking advantage of their simple trust, you’ll soon wish you hadn’t. You’d be better off dropped in the middle of the lake with a millstone around your neck. 43-48 “If your hand or your foot gets in God’s way, chop it off and throw it away. You’re better off maimed or lame and alive than the proud owner of two hands and two feet, godless in a furnace of eternal fire. And if your eye distracts you from God, pull it out and throw it away. You’re better off one-eyed and alive than exercising your twenty-twenty vision from inside the fire of hell. 49-50 “Everyone’s going through a refining fire sooner or later, but you’ll be well-preserved, protected from the eternal flames. Be preservatives yourselves. Preserve the peace.”
