Host Dave Sobel engages in a lively discussion with seasoned technology journalist Jessica Davis and veteran industry writer Howard Cohen. The conversation kicks off with an exploration of the recent trend of CEO changes in the tech industry, particularly focusing on notable shifts at companies like Kaseya and ConnectWise. The trio delves into the implications of these leadership changes and speculates on the potential reasons behind them, including possible mergers and acquisitions, as well as the evolving landscape of managed services.A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to the MSSP (Managed Security Service Provider) benchmark pricing report, which Jessica recently published. She highlights key findings, such as the opportunity for MSSPs to offer Virtual Chief Security Officer (vCSO) services, which are currently underutilized. The report reveals that while 100% of MSSPs provide security operations center services, only 57% offer backup and disaster recovery services, raising questions about the foundational services that should be included in security offerings. The discussion emphasizes the need for MSSPs to better define their services and explore pricing strategies to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving market. The conversation shifts to the growing trend of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in the managed services sector. Jessica notes that while the M&A market for MSPs surged in 2021 and 2022, it has since slowed due to rising interest rates and a limited supply of quality MSPs available for acquisition. This has led investment firms and organizations like Evergreen and The 20 to create their own events to build a pipeline of potential acquisitions. Howard adds that many MSPs are wary of selling to private equity firms due to concerns about employee retention and company culture, which has prompted alternative acquisition strategies focused on preserving the existing workforce. As the episode wraps up, the panelists share their predictions for the first half of the year. Howard emphasizes the importance of professionalism in the industry, advocating for a shift from viewing managed services as a trade to recognizing it as a profession. Jessica highlights the increasing relevance of artificial intelligence (AI) in managed services, noting that MSPs are beginning to explore its applications for both customer use cases and internal operations. The discussion concludes with a call for the industry to embrace these changes and leverage new technologies to drive growth and innovation. DUTTON GOES NUCLEAR, MATT KEAN GONE & THE NSW REDISTRIBUTION COMMANDING THE NARRATIVE EPISODE 23 The political junkies, Steven Tripp, Sam Buono and Richard Storch are back to discuss the big issues in Australia right now – and it has been a massive week of issues. Firstly, Richard and Sam conclude that the policy announcement to build seven nuclear power stations by Opposition Leader Peter Dutton was the most significant news in recent weeks. The trio discuss whether it will be a vote-wining policy, or whether it has created a big target for the Coalition detractors to attack. Steven then provides some examples from both extremes of politics attacking the move to nuclear, including social media posts from Senator Malcolm Roberts and Teal Independent Dr. Sophie Scamps. The resignation of former NSW Treasurer Matt Kean is discussed and whether it will benefit the Liberal Party moving forward. Then the boys dig deep into the AEC's draft NSW Redistribution of Federal electorates, which saw the abolition of the seat of North Sydney, currently held by Teal Independent, Kylea Tink. Richard gives us a comprehensive breakdown of what the redistribution will mean for the upcoming Federal election, as he identifies the seats which will be lost by the current Labor Government and what this will mean for their chances to form a majority Government. From February 12, 2021: Lost in the shuffle of an impeachment trial here in the United States was big news from Canada last week. Canada's Minister of Public Safety added the Proud Boys to Canada's terror entity list. The listing might be in Canada, but the group had a role in the January 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol. The listing has all sorts of interesting legal and national security implications, so Jacob Schulz talked it through with two Canadian national security experts. We welcome the talented Atlanta-based designer, Jessica Davis, whose remarkable skills in creating daring spaces and adding unique touches of irreverence have captivated us. Her exceptional work has garnered recognition from renowned publications such as House Beautiful, Better Homes and Gardens, Real Simple, and Elle Decor, among others. In this episode, Jessica shares insights into her innovative take on blending tradition with modern design. She offers valuable advice on discovering the perfect textures and colors that resonate with your personal style. Additionally, she divulges a selection of her preferred sources for discovering wonderfully quirky furnishings. Prepare to be inspired by Jessica's confidence and artistic vision! What You'll Hear On This Episode: How Jessica tells a story with her interiors and works with her clients to bring their vision to life. Jessica shares how she collected things that may not match the space but work in homes that range from Victorian, Dutch Colonial, and midcentury modern. Taking things from place to place and collecting them over time allows you to create something less formulaic than furnishing a house just for the space and style of home. Create a vision board of your home, even if it's you floating around in a mumu! How designing for a restaurant and retail space differs from a home. The ways that having a background in art and design helps Jessica create things that have a little tension and bring out the unexpected. How often does Jessica change things in her own house? The inspiration for her gorgeous furniture and hardware line. Where do you start with a color palette? Tips for threading colors in a room. How do you know what makes good textiles? Mentioned in This Episode: Atelier Davis  @atelier_davis  Nest Studio  @neststudio    Decorating Dilemma  Thank you so much for writing in! First, we agree with your idea of adding beams to the ceiling to enhance its architectural appeal. Jessica suggests using a fun color for either the walls or the ceiling (or both) to add interest and some spark to the room. Jessica also supports your suggestion of adding a chandelier and hanging it around 6 & ½ feet. We propose selecting a bold paint color for the room and adding some decorative elements, like a tray on the ottoman and a reading lamp on the coffee table. Since one of the themes of this episode is taking risks, we invite you to take some risks of your own to add layers and interest to the space. Maybe some angled ceilings, pale blue curtains, and natural-looking textured chandeliers to achieve a fresh and light atmosphere in the room.

With solid footing in television, including her breakout role in beloved Netflix Series,13 Reasons Why, actor Alisha Boe intrigues in Jesse Eisenberg's recently released indie film, When You Finish Saving The World, begging the question: what's next? Here, our latest cover star discusses what it was like working with the actor who wrote and directed his first film, and playing Lila. She explains what drew her to the part, her initial thoughts on playing opposite Finn Wolfhard in the film, how she's both similar to and different from her character, and why stories about the parent-child relationship move her.  We discuss her early start as a performer at age 7, life in Norway, doing cartwheels in the airport upon touching down in LA, growing up as a young actor in the Valley, and being home-schooled, because she was picking up so much work. Alisha names the shows, films, and actors who helped stoke her interest in her career, how simultaneously working on series' like Ray Donovan and CSI  taught her to be comfortable on set, and what it's like to collaborate with crew. Having not discussed it for some time, Alisha revisits and reflects upon 13 Reasons Why in an exclusive conversation here, and talks about her life-changing role as assault survivor, Jessica Davis, and how Jessica's story provoked and still provokes constant conversation in her life.  We get into the series' serious topics that she describes as 'personal', how the experience made her 'less naive', and how playing Jessica made her feel more connected to people.  We talk her feelings about social media, what's important when picking projects, and work-life balance. We go behind the scenes on Alisha's photo project with our episode 59 guest, artist Sarah Bahbah, and get into when she feels most comfortable in front of the camera, and how she feels about fashion. And what moves the needle in our businesses is not that activity, it's the activity that you take when you step away from your business—to actually look at it—to notice trends, to make decisions to change the course of how certain things are going.” – Jeannie Andresen  “The goal for me, and I hope for most people in entrepreneurship, is to remove yourself as much as possible, in a way so that you can grow the others underneath you.” – Jeannie Andresen “So often we have a really productive day where we make decisions, and we say that we're going to do things, but if we're not giving ourselves space and time to actually look at that stuff—add things to our calendar, clean up what we made decisions on, confirm that we made decisions—a lot of stuff falls flat…give yourself the space and time to actually execute on this.” – Jeannie Andresen More About Jeannie Andresen: Jeannie is a former corporate director turned life and business coach who specializes in helping interior designers become confident in both business and leadership. Across the world, the collective carbon emissions of sports is equal to that of a mid-size country, which makes Indianapolis – a city contending for the title of sports capital of the world – an ideal testing ground for environmentally-friendly protocols that could be scaled nationally and possibly even internationally.  To get a sense of just how massively influential sports are not just as an industry but as a platform, Jay speaks with Roger McClendon, executive director of the Green Sports Alliance. Roger informs Jay that the Alliance's sustainability work on this past year's College Football Playoff Championship saw a staggering 80% diversion rate of methane-emitting waste from landfill, while shedding light on a need for new green jobs and infrastructure capable of reusing the materials that go into live events. Susan Baughman, president of the 2022 CFP Indianapolis Host Committee, tells Jay that pulling off the most sustainable championship in the event's history was a team effort that can serve as an inspiration for other cities to recreate and improve upon. Speaking of improvements, Jay hears about how Indianapolis has been scaling its efforts year-over-year by speaking with Jessica Davis, director of the IUPUI Office of Sustainability, which serves as the boots-on-the-ground when it comes to data collection and research. Jessica explains how the 2021 March Madness tournament established a precedent for sustainable sporting events, and how each successive event is only going to raise the bar and extend the scope of emissions that the city intends to offset. Next, Jay pops over to Lucas Oil Stadium to hear from Yogi Stephens of Sodexo Live! about how vendors are deploying best practices while keeping tens of thousands of hungry fans fed.  Finally, Jay concludes his nation-wide tour at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where he gets some sage advice from Penske Entertainment's first ever sustainability program leader, Logan Waddle, about how he successfully turned his passions for sports and the environment into a newly minted green job. In February of 2020, a 17 year old boy walked into the doors of a Toronto spa wielding a sword where he brutally attacked members of staff, killing the receptionist. In a court proceeding carried out on Wednesday, he plead guilty to the charges, stating that he was inspired by the Toronto van attack that was carried out by Alek Minassian in 2018, and cited an 'incel rebellion.' Can this be considered an act of domestic terrorism, or is this too difficult to label? To tell us about this case is Jessica Davis, a former CSIS senior intelligence analyst and President of Insight Threat Intelligence.
