ANGELA'S SYMPOSIUM 📖 Academic Study on Witchcraft, Paganism, esotericism, magick and the Occult
In this episode, we examine the Minoan Brotherhood, a contemporary Pagan tradition that reinterprets Minoan religious symbolism through the lens of LGBTQ+ spirituality. Founded in the late 1970s by Eddie Buczynski, the Brotherhood emerged as a response to the heteronormativity of mainstream Wicca, creating a sacred framework that centres homoerotic relationships within a reconstructed mythological and ritual structure. Drawing on the Labrys (double-headed axe) as a key symbol, the Brotherhood blends Arthur Evans' reconstructions of Minoan religion with adapted Gardnerian Wiccan ceremonial practices, emphasizing the sacralization of erotic energy, graded initiatory rites, and the role of the Minos as a spiritual leader. We critically engage with both the historical inspirations and academic critiques surrounding the Brotherhood's theology, particularly the challenges of romanticized Minoan reconstructions in contemporary Pagan practice. The episode also situates the Brotherhood within LGBTQ+ religious history, considering its significance during the AIDS crisis, its intersections with feminist spirituality, and its broader role in modern queer identity formation within esoteric traditions. As a case study in myth-making, ritual adaptation, and cultural reclamation, the Minoan Brotherhood offers valuable insights into how marginalized communities engage with ancient religious frameworks to construct meaningful spiritual identities in the present. In this episode of Mood Lab, Carina Jung delves into the true meaning behind the slogan "The Future is Female." Join us as we uncover the origins of this phrase in feminist history, explore the symbolism of the Labrys, and examine how these ideas reflect a deeper spiritual struggle over identity. From a Christian viewpoint, we'll discuss what this slogan means for believers and how to navigate these conversations through the lens of faith.

“¿Qué me cabe esperar?”

And now he's permanently banned like that's crazy. Dude, Dr DisRespect's gotta be so mad he didn't sign with Mixer”, PewDiePie said. PewDiePie said, “He signed with Twitch hoping for like the future on Twitch instead of grabbing the big money or cash right. He's like ‘Yeah, Mixer's not probably gonna take off. I'm probably better off signing with Twitch. “I bet that's what he thought. I'm saying this now, I don't know what he did. Three months ago, what happened in that period, so Mixer shut down and then Ninja and Shroud just got banks for no work.” A fan theory was that twitch wanted to recoup their money and and used a ban to cover up this fact Pewds said I don't think that's the causing factor but it's definitely an incentive. It's like Mixer shut down, so he can't go over there. So, if we ban him because he was clearly talking to Mixer about signing with them. If we ban him, we don't have to f***ing pay him. It doesn't make sense either. I mean, how many millions do you think he paid them”, PewDiePie stated. Twitch breaks records again in Q2, topping 5B total hours watched Twitch had already broken viewership records in the first quarter of 2020 amid coronavirus lockdowns, surpassing 3 billion total hours watched in a single quarter for the first time. In the second quarter, it appears that Twitch has broken that record and several others once again. Twitch saw a massive 62.7% increase in hours watched from Q1 2020 to reach 5 billion hours watched in the second quarter. This figure was also up by 83.1% year-over-year and helps to cement Twitch's place as the leader among game-streaming services, with a 67.6% market share. Dr Disrespect breaks silence on Twitch ban: 'We don't know why' Dr Disrespect has finally opened up on one of the biggest running stories on the internet, his Twitch ban. He still doesn't know the reason why his channel was removed and has confirmed his time on the platform is over, for good. 2 months into his new contract he found out while watching a friends stream Amazon “As is our process, we take appropriate action when we have evidence that a streamer has acted in violation of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. These apply to all streamers regardless of status or prominence in the community.” In a second interview, this time with PCGamer, He said: "Obviously, for legal counsel, I have to be careful here. But I can say however, that I will not be returning to Twitch, so, I mean, that's it." "Let's just say all the cards are on the table. I'm more focused on just making sure whatever we do next, whether it's a platform move or not, that it's the right decision for the community and Champions Club that follows me. And that makes sense to what I want to continue to accomplish with this character in terms of taking things to the next level, and whether it's streaming or outside of streaming. So it's just being conscientious of that decision." Gaming News Xbox Series X and PS5 games to cost $70 as standard Gaming is about to get even more expensive. A couple of weeks ago, games publisher 2K announced that its sports sim NBA 2K21 will cost $70 on the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 consoles. Since then, a number of voices have added to the debate, with $70 per title seeming to be the new standard price for gamers. A Twitter poll held by Mike Andronico at Tom's Guide showed 61 percent of respondents would buy fewer games if they all cost $70. Which is understandable, given the perilous world economic situation at present. Sony invests $250 million in 'Fortnite' maker Epic Games Sony has invested $250 million in Epic Games, the company behind the popular battle-royale video game “Fortnite.” The PlayStation console maker will take a minority stake in Epic, the two companies said Thursday, in a strategic investment deal that expands on an existing relationship between both firms. “Through our investment, we will explore opportunities for further collaboration with Epic to delight and bring value to consumers and the industry at large, not only in games, but also across the rapidly evolving digital entertainment landscape.” Henry Cavill Assembles a Gaming PC in Instagram Video: WATCH Henry Cavill took to social media to show off his new gaming pc build Set to Barry Whites “You're the First , the last, my everything” Cavill gives us a montage of himself assembling the PC in presumably his home. Margaret St. Clair's Sign of the Labrys takes place in a future United States of America, though the government seems to have fallen, after a yeast pandemic killed a majority of the population. What is left of the country has gone into a kind of subterranean quarantine, and society is fractured, as people are afraid to be too close to one another, for fear of spreading the germ. The quarantine has gone on for so long, that people have grown accustomed to being alone and now prefer it to any kind of human contact. This is the storyworld that readers are introduced to, as they meet the protagonist, Sam Sewell, a man living and working in underground levels, meant to keep people safe but apart. Imagine his horror and surprise when he finds that someone has invaded his space, leaving messages and clues in his home “pod” and attracting the attention of an FBY agent. His journey to discover who is trying to contact him leads him deeper into the ground, level by level, into a world of danger--and of magic. Save Meduza!https://support.meduza.io/enLGBTQ activists in the Russophone world face obstacles that many in the Anglophone world do not, but that means they also find ways to survive that defy the imagination. One way queer Russian speakers have found to work through those life-and-death decisions is writing science fiction. Through stories about augmented reality, lesbian seduction in space, sentient plants, and more, activists have offered political commentary on post-Soviet oppression that's impossible to find in the mainstream opposition. To understand how Russophone writers are using sci-fi to map out the region's political future, “The Naked Pravda” reached out to scholars in Japan, Kyrgyzstan, and Sweden. They walked us through the broader Russian sci-fi scene and reflected on how speculative writing has changed their own scholarship and activism. In this episode: (6:33) Mikhail Suslov, an assistant professor of Russian History and Politics at the University of Copenhagen currently sheltering in Sweden, explains why the vast majority of Russian sci-fi published today has ties to the Kremlin and the Orthodox Church. (14:29) Georgy Mamedov, an academic who chairs the board for the LGBTQ organization Labrys in Kyrgyzstan, asks why so much queer Russophone science fiction fantasizes about complete separation from the rest of the world even as the people who write it get more and more determined to engage with the homophobes around them. (16:19) Syinat Sultanalieva, a prominent activist and a PhD candidate in international studies at the University of Tsukuba, breaks down the geopolitical undertones of her short story “Element 174.” “The Naked Pravda” comes out on Fridays. For our first attempt at a remote recording we are joined by anthropologist and queer sexologist Dr Jamie Lawson of the University of Bristol. First up is the Wachowski’s debut film Bound (1996) with Jennifer Tilly seducing Gina Gershon in a neo-noir crime drama. Next up is a mostly-improvised exploration of queer characters and safe spaces in John Cameron Mitchell’s Shortbus (2006). We finish with the emotionally-brutal made-for-TV HBO movie The Normal Heart (2014) with Mark Ruffalo portraying a gay activist during the early years of the HIV-AIDS crisis. Also: Jamie likes Speed Racer (2008)? Assassins (1995). Susie Bright. Labrys. The C word. Rope (1948). Unexpected autofellatio. Justin Vivian Bond. Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001). Sex Education (2019). Larry Kramer. Sign of the Labrys
Laura Perry, Pagan author and artist, fascinated by ancient cultures and spirituality has immersed herself in reconstructing Minoan Paganism by way of a Minoan Tarot deck, a Minoan-themed adult coloring book and she teaches online courses in Modern Minoan Paganism, which her group practices. Tune in to find out why Minoal Paganism is relevant now, if its mostly for lesbians, if its female-centric and why heterosexual men would be interested in the spirituality. Laura will explain what we know about what Minoans believed and practiced and how she and her group have extrapolated that into a contemporary practice as close to the original as possible. We'll also talk about how the ancient religion and society became skewed by later Greek writers from patriarchal societies. Laura is the author of Labrys and Horns: An Introduction to Modern Minoan Paganism, her most recent book. Should be very interesting! Second guest tonight, returning to the show, we have beloved foremother and social justice activist, Starhawk, discussing the Fall release of her new audio book The Fifth Sacred Thing.
