How does a child of deaf adults who grew up in a tin shed with no running water or electricity witness her father commit a violent crime and then grow up to be the joyful owner of a comedy venue? Kambri Crews will tell you how! Author of the acclaimed New York Times best selling book Burn Down the Ground and sole owner and operator of Q.E.D. which was voted #1 comedy club in NYC by Time Out NY, Kambri is a damn delight. Her message, "Life's Tough. Laugh More." is evident as she chuckles about light things such as restaurant staff seeing her use sign language and then ignorantly handing her a menu in Braille, and heavy things such as her father attempting murder not once but twice. As Julia says, "If at first you don't succeed...". The Skit Guys are Tommy Woodard and Eddie James — best friends since high school. They fell in love with acting in their school's theater productions and had a knack for making people laugh. When Tommy invited Eddie to church, everything changed. With encouragement and guidance from their youth pastor, the guys started to write and perform skits for their youth group. No longer was it just about making people laugh — their skits now had a bigger purpose. Since then, they've been writing and performing hilarious and poignant skits live and on screen. They starred in their first feature film, FAMILY CAMP, a faith-based family comedy, which was released in theaters across the U.S. on May 13, 2022, and ranked as the No. 1 new family movie during its opening weekend. Tommy and Eddie have traveled the world performing at events, churches, and conferences. They have grown SkitGuys.com into a media resource for pastors with countless videos and scripts that are used in churches all over the world. You'll be inspired to do something to help people in ditches. Tommy and Eddie's new faith-based, family comedy, Family Camp, is coming to theaters starting May 13. Get info and watch the trailer at FamilyCampMovie.com.
In this special episode of the podcast, Tommy and Eddie are joined by Grammy-nominated Rhett Walker, (who plays a special part in The Skit Guys movie, Family Camp!). They talk about a lot of things, including the fact that grace from God is constantly free.
After a fun and random game, Tommy and Eddie share what it means to keep going even when you hit obstacles or difficulties. The guys look at the story of the persistent widow from Luke 18:1-8 and encourage you to keep asking God for what you need.
The Skit Guys are Tommy Woodard and Eddie James — best friends since high school. They fell in love with acting in their school's theatre productions and had a knack for making people laugh. Tommy and Eddie have travelled the world performing at events, churches, and conferences. The Skit Guys also have a web series called Bedtime Bible Stories, their “Laugh More” podcast, and a book on friendship called “Smells Like Bacon,” as well as comedy DVDs. Today on Connections, Tommy and Eddie share how they met and why they love combining comedy and faith. They'll also share a bit about their first full-length, family-friendly film, Family Camp. Tommy and Eddie are excited to bring you a very special episode of the Laugh More with The Skit Guys podcast. Listen to them talk about their new book, "Smells Like Bacon," (available now). They'll also share a fabulous friendship flashback and answer a few podience questions about friendship.
How will you be remembered? Tommy and Eddie talk about legacy and perform a skit that will make you laugh and think. You'll be encouraged to do something with your life that'll make a difference.
This episode includes some podience "viewer mail" and some theories that faith is like a chair and life is like the weather. But it's the skit Tommy and Eddie perform that helps remind us that God is with us through our struggles.
What lessons have parents learned during distance learning and working from home? How can they create a better post-pandemic new norm? Maria invited back her friend and positive psychologist, Robert Zeitlin, to share his experience guiding and supporting parents and families to get back on track amidst the pandemic. Robert is the author of the books “Laugh More, Yell Less: A Guide to Raising Kick-Ass Kids” and “But I’m Not a Teacher! A Parent’s Guide to Learning Under Lockdown”. He has been helping parents to turn the challenges created during distance learning and working from home into learning opportunities for the whole family. In this episode, Robert and Maria dive into the learning superpowers from positive psychology that can help parents identify their children’s character’s strengths to prepare them for better livelihoods. They also discuss the tension created between parents and teachers during distance learning and provide guidance and insights to help them rebuild trust and create a better new norm at home and in the classroom. Using their shared experience in the mastermind group they co-created, they explore learning in relationships and unpack the role of time and space, infinite and finite games, and so much more in learning. This is a special episode between two friends and lifelong learners. Enjoy! Spoiler: positive psychology may not be what you think it is.“What's the math problem? Is the math problem just the answer you get at the bottom? Or is it the actually working through of the problem? Is life something you do on your own time and then you come up with the perfect mic drop moment? Because that's only part of the answer - there's much more to it. As much as we're in the mess and we think we're not ready for prime time, we're in it actually. The mess is part of it.”Are you smack in the messy parts parenting? Or often find yourself exasperated and losing your cool? This episode is for you. Dr. Robert Zeitlin and I candidly discuss how to make those meltdown moments more manageable. In our early adult years we spent so much effort on prevention, who knew that conception could be so difficult, or that Stress Decreases Your Chances Of Conceiving. For more than a couple of years my husband and I tried to conceive a child. At that time we never heard that Stress Decreases Your Chances Of Conceiving. We endured months and months of taking temperatures, doctor visits, disappointments, crying, trying new medications, testing of all kinds and grieving. It was a horrible roller-coaster ride. We were not alone in our struggles. Infertility rates in Canada are increasing with roughly 1 in 6 couples experiencing fertility issues. While we were going through this struggle, we told very few people, especially our families. Stress grew as the months passed. Here are today’s Hot Tips For Building Resiliency Increasing Your Chances of Conceiving and Celebrating Infertility Awareness Week: Find Ways To Relax. I know that you may hate hearing this, but it is one thing that you can do. Be Nutrition Wise. Our nutrition impacts the way in which our bodies function, both efficiently and effectively. Aim For Emotional Balance. Watch out for negative emotions such as anger, guilt, or resentment, which many women may feel at some point in their journeys to conceive. Laugh More. Laughter can take the edge off of a stressful day. Take Advantage of Support and Counselling. Keep the Romance Alive While Trying to Conceive. Tommy and Eddie share a skit with bad British accents as they look at the heart. They'll get you thinking about what kinds of things you're filling your heart with and remind you that Jesus is the only one who can heal and fill your heart. And, of course, they'll make you laugh more!
Tommy and Eddie, The Skit Guys, reflect on the history of humor in the church and their own journey starting out doing skits in the 80s. With a little bit of improv and a lot of cracking up, the guys remind us why laughter is good medicine.
It's tough being a parent in a pandemic, let alone three different ones. How do you manage your kids while you're managing your job? How do employees, regardless of parenting status, deal with outdated management philosophies in this new world of work? In this episode, hosts Lisa Lambert and Rick Kitagawa speak with positive psychologist Dr. Robert Zeitlin. For the last 20 years, he's been helping parents raise kick-ass kids. In fact - he wrote the book on it - Laugh More, Yell Less: A Guide to Raising Kick-Ass Kids. He's also the author of But I'm Not a Teacher: A Parent's Guide to Learning Under Lockdown. This episode has time travel, practical tips for managing the winter holidays in this time of triple pandemic, parsing intuition from the lizard brain, and a reimagination of what a school can be, so you won't want to miss this one.
