The condition of the church is a subject I feel very strongly about. It's a topic and critical issue I will continue to cover. Sadly, it's not getting any better. What happens when the church by and large embraces a watered down gospel? What happens when the truth its supposed to herald from its pulpits is exchanged for worldly applause and popularity? When grace becomes cheap grace and reliance on Him is replaced with positive thinking? What is the end result when the church aims to look more like the world, so as to be attractive to the world instead of aiming to be imitators of Christ? My next guest shares how disconnected she was to her body when she started learning about nutrition and recognized how out of touch she was. This was part of why she had disordered eating. She noticed that she felt she couldn't trust her body and what it was telling her. It didn't feel safe to her in her body was a huge realization. Her father had left their religion when she was in her youth and she watched the division in created within her home. In their faith, divorce was never an option. Later she goes to a Christian university which she struggled with especially the shame that came there. Rebecca shares that confusion was her overall feeling as she started to really explore who she was. Tyler said she get's asked often how did she get into Buddhism. Today she tells the story of being in a religion that was like a dogmatic slavery and how she felt worthless as a woman in that religion and she turned to drinking and drugging. She got sober in AA but discovered it was not teaching her what she knew, that she was suffering and she was attached to drugs and alcohol and by stopping the attachment, she would be sober. Tyler stated that at eight-years-old she knew we come back and do it over and over. Tyler discusses her exit from religion and went from dogma to feeling compassion and love.
