How can someone be appointed Archbishop of Washington, DC, after expressing views contrary to the Catholic faith? This is the question being raised by many within the American Catholic Church after Cardinal Robert McElroy's recent appointment as Archbishop of Washington, DC. Appointments like this are causing many Catholics to wonder what is going on that bishops who hold objectively heretical or at least ambiguous views on basic Catholic truths are receiving these appointments. However, it is heartening to see the very direct and truthful comments that Archbishop Aquila from Denver, CO, and Bishop Paprocki from Springfield, IL, have made on the seriousness of appointing people to high positions who hold views like this. Let's pray that the Lord have mercy on our holy Catholic Church which is going through a time of trial right now.Get your copy of Peter Herbeck's new booklet, Does God Judge? In this episode, Matthew has a conversation with Kelli Dunham.  She is an RN and a stand-up comedian.  They have a great conversation about the impact humor can have on both clinician and patient even in settings where one might not think humor has a place.  They also discuss her history of being an ex-nun and how that experience shaped her life today.KELLI DUNHAM RN, BSN is a community health nurse, trauma-informed stand-up comic and storyteller and author of seven hilarious nonfiction books about not humorous subjects including the best-selling Boy's Body Book (Cidermill Press) and the award-winning How to Survive And Maybe Even Love Nursing School (FA Davis, 3rd edition, 2017).Kelli has appeared on Showtime, the Discovery Channel, the BBC's Religion and Culture Hour, PBS' Stories From the Stage, the Moth Mainstage and Radio Hour, Jubilee Media and Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness. Kelli speaks frequently to healthcare providers and other folks who have impossible jobs about laughter at the end of life, using humor to combat vicarious trauma, the family/provider perspective on medical aid in dying and storytelling as an act of radical self-care. Kelli was recently named one of 48 LGBT People of Influence by Philadelphia Gay News and was featured as the face of nonbinary fashion in the workplace for the New York Times, even though no one has before or since called her fashionable. Want more of Kelli? How do you advocate without being an activist in the military? Are they separate?  Can you rock the boat without tipping it over? How do you move the needle on inclusion in spaces that are dead set against your presence?  How do you criticize a policy and maintain your obligation to the chain of command from leadership?  How do you use media to tell your story when seeking a broader change? We will address these critical topics as I chatted with Blake Dremann about how he succeeded on active duty and became a face of a cause. At the same time, the politicians debated what was then (and still is) a controversial issue. He has taught me so much in my advocacy journey and how to push for change correctly. Commander Blake Dremann serves as the Supply Officer and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul – Logistics Deputy Director at Fleet Readiness Center – East in Cherry Point, NC. Commander Dremann is a native of St. Louis, MO.  He is a 2003 graduate from Ozark Christian College, received his commission through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL, in 2006, and attended Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, GA. Dremann's operational assignments include Supply Officer, USS Maine (SSBN 741), earning Maine's second Logistics Excellence Award and recipient of the 2015 Vice Admiral Robert F. Batchelder Award and division officer afloat as Food Service Officer, Disbursing Officer and Assistant Supply Officer, USS Denver (LPD 9). Dremann's personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2), the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals (4). He is qualified as a Submarine and Surface Warfare Supply officer and an Acquisition Corps member.  Commander Dremann received the 2018 Department of Defense Pride Military Leadership Award, Modern Military Association of America's “Outstanding Advocate” Honoree for their 25th Anniversary, and was named a 2019 Out in National Security Next Generation Leader. In 2019, he testified before the HASC Personnel Committee along with four other trans service members and the current President of the American Medical Association Jesse Ehrenfeld. He was also president of the non-profit SPARTA from 2016-2019, whose mission is to advocate for inclusive military policy, provide peer support and develop transgender military service educational resources.Visit my website: https://thehello.llc/THERESACARPENTERRead my writings on my blog: https://www.theresatapestries.com/Listen to other episodes on my podcast: https://storiesofservice.buzzsprout.com

“There are gangs who've realised that gay people cannot go to the police so that makes them ‘good victims' for blackmail... Everybody you speak to has been kitoed or knows someone has been kitoed. And that's just how rampant it is.” Do you know what the word Kito means? Or Kitorist? Or Kitoed? In Nigeria it's come to mean when people, usually gangs, use online dating apps to entrap gay people - and then blackmail them. It often involves the victim being attacked and humiliated on film – with the footage then shared on social media. But queer activists are attempting to fight back. For Africa Daily, Mpho Lakaje speaks to Ian Wafula, the reporter on a BBC Africa Eye documentary on the subject, as well as to Nigerian Queer Activist, Walter. Pieter Valk joins Aaron Salvato for a very intriguing conversation on sexuality. Pieter is a same-sex attracted Christian and ministry leader who is also committed to the historic Christian sexual ethic. This is a challenging path to walk, as it requires faithfulness and obedience to the teachings of Jesus around sexuality, often leading to a life of singleness and celibacy. In this episode, we will dive deep into Pieter's journey and discuss the complexities of his beliefs. We will explore the theology of sexual temptation and how it relates to same-sex attraction. Pieter will share his personal experiences and offer practical wisdom on how we can love and support those who are struggling with this issue. We will dive deep into the topic of sexual brokenness and how it effects everyone, no matter their orientation. We will also answer a very challenging question: does God intend for people to experience same-sex attraction? This is a difficult and often controversial topic, but Pieter approaches it with compassion and grace. Pieter's unique perspective challenges the modern narratives around LGBTQ issues and offers a fresh perspective. In this two-part series, we will discuss Pieter's ministry and his heart for the Church to create a more compassionate and faithful community pursuing orthodoxy and the Way of Jesus together, no matter what our sexual struggles are.

Nearly 1 in 10 LGBTQ people in the United States experienced workplace discrimination in the last year, and almost half faced employment bias at some point in their careers, according to a new survey. The findings were published Tuesday in a report titled LGBT People's Experiences of Workplace Discrimination and Harassment by the Williams Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law. It found that 46 percent of LGBTQ workers reported receiving unfair treatment at some point in their careers because of their sexual orientation or gender identity — including being passed over for a job, harassed at work, denied a promotion, or raise, excluded from company events, denied additional hours, or fired. An estimated 9 percent reported being denied a job or laid off in the past 12 months because of their orientation or identity. Leveraging his almost 30 years of experience as a leadership, change management, and diversity and inclusion consultant to cultivate our collective leadership awesomeness. It is undoubtedly one of the strangest World Cups ever. The global "festival of football" kicks off this weekend in the tiny Gulf state of Qatar in a cloud of controversy. In this special launch episode of our brand-new weekly podcast, Molly Blackall speaks to i's Chief Football Writer, Daniel Storey in Doha and Special Correspondent, Patrick Strudwick about why this World Cup has come under such scrutiny. In the 12 years since Qatar was awarded the World Cup, the eyes of the world have turned on the tiny nation of just under three million people. As the Qatari government has pumped billions into building stadiums for the event, criticism has grown over the treatment of the thousands of migrant workers who worked on the projects. From Doha, Daniel has written about how the sky-high costs for travelling fans and lingering moral doubts mean that the tournament will "push fan loyalty to the limit".The president of Fifa,Gianni Infantino, insisted in a press conference in late October that “everyone is welcome in Qatar" but Patrick's reporting has uncovered the brutal reality for LGBT people living in the country and the threats facing visiting LGBT fans. Listen as they both debate the controversies and what role star players can take in shining a light on the lack of human rights in Qatar. Some of the discussion does contain accounts of sexual violence, so listener discretion is advised.Produced by Julia Webster. Growing up knowing I was gay I wish I would have seen characters that looked and loved like me on tv and media. But that wasn't the case, how much self-hatred, isolation and depression would that have saved me from? Here we are in 2021 and finally we have more and more representation in television and conservative Christians are now crying "grooming". Lord Jesus help us all. Listen in to this weeks episode to understand why this is NOT grooming your children to be gay.

Throughout the season we've interviewed gay men from countries around the world, but all of these countries could easily be argued incredibly supportive of the LGBT community and of LGBT parenting. Not so much the three countries that we are focusing on in this episode The Not-Such-Great-Places-to-be-a-Gay-Dad Episode This season, Daddy Squared has (virtually) flown from country-to-country around the world talking to gay dads and experts about what it's like to be gay and become a gay dad in places like Ireland, South Africa, Argentina, etc., etc. The countries we've covered have had all kinds of important variations in LGBTQ rights, parental rights, laws regarding Surrogacy and IVF, etc., etc. But one thing they all had in common was a basic belief in the right of a gay man to live openly – and have a family. For our season finale, we decided it was time to deal with the rest of the world: the many, many countries where not only is being a gay dad impossible, but homosexuality itself is forbidden or persecuted. For obvious reasons, our guests on this episode could not come to us live from the countries of their origin. Instead, X, Y and Alex joined us representing Taiwan & China, Russia, and Iran, respectively. It's a fascinating and meaningful talk. And yes, we know: Way to end the season on a high note! But actually, having just listened to the episode ourselves, we've realized that the perseverance held by members of the LGBTQ community everywhere in the world is nothing short of miraculous – and ultimately, we shall overcome! China LGBT people in China face legal and social challenges that are not experienced by non-LGBT residents. According to the Constitution of China, same-sex couples are unable to marry or adopt, and households headed by such couples are ineligible for the same legal protections available to heterosexual couples. No anti-discrimination protections exist for LGBT people. Iran Iran's government structure is parliamentary. It has a "democratic" layer with a tripartite separation of powers, above which looms the "theocratic" layer with the Guardian Council and Supreme Leader. LGBT people in the Iran face legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents. While people can legally change their assigned sex, sexual activity between members of the same sex is illegal and can be punishable by up to death. Bottom line: it's scary to be gay in Iran. Russia Russia has long held strongly negative views regarding homosexuality. Although same-sex sexual activity between consenting adults in private was decriminalized in 1993, homosexuality is disapproved of by most Russians, and same-sex couples and households headed by same-sex couples are ineligible for the legal protections. This allows him to stay connected to his heritage and familiar with current social climate.  He currently resides in Orange County, California with his loving husband of 5+ years.  They welcomed their first son in 2019 through surrogacy in California and they have a second son due in 2021. Monica and Page sit down with Joey Mogul to talk about Queer (In)Justice: The Criminalization of LGBT People in the United States, a book that she co-wrote with Andrea Ritchie and Kay Whitlock in 2011. Joey is an attorney with the People's Law Office, initiated and co-founded Chicago Torture Justice Memorials and represented Jon Burge torture survivors demanding reparations from the city of Chicago, and won! Drawing on years of research, on-the-ground activism, and legal advocacy, their book examines queer & trans historical experiences-as “suspects,” defendants, prisoners, and survivors of crime, and unpacks queer criminal archetypes-like “gleeful gay killers,” “lethal lesbians,” “disease spreaders,” and “deceptive gender benders“-to illustrate the punishment of queer expression, regardless of whether a crime was ever committed. And because it's Pride season, we also got into some conversation around Joey's amazing direct action experiences with disrupting Chicago Pride in the 90's with Queer to the Left, so basically, you should tune in now!
