Welcome to The Weekender where we're getting excited about what's happening with Warhammer Quest and the exploration of the Blackstone Fortress. Welcome to The Weekender where we're going to be confronting the very real possibility that Mass Battle Games Are Dead...well, at least Warhammer 40,000 and Age Of Sigmar. Pilot Sven hat die Keynote per Twitter verfolgt und sich dann die Perlen später in der Wiederholung angesehen, ganz wie er es vom Fußball gewöhnt ist. Anti-Andreas war joggen und hat seine Informationsstop dem Ubercast zuliebe sogar soweit getrieben, dass er sämtliche Informationsquellen bis zur Show weiterhin unterdrückt hat. Seine Co-Piloten machen sind heute also die Sprecher auf Andreas persönlicher Keynote. Für alle die das Recording noch einmal in HD strömen wollen: Apple Events - Special Event June 2014. Wer es gerne noch geraffter und historischer haben möchte, dem seien die Apple Keynotes der letzten 10 Jahre in der Zusammenfassung empfohlen. Weitere Fundstücke aus der Gerüchteküche: Spiegel: SPON wie immer mit feinstem Apple Bashing Auch die WirtschaftsWoche hoch kompetent: “Aber viele der in Los Angeles präsentierten neuen Funktionen biete die Konkurrenz seit langem an.” Es gibt aber auch ausgewogene Berichterstattung bei SPON von Matthias Kremp. Loopinsight: Jim Dalrymple sagt ‘Nope.’ zu billigem iMac und iPhone 5s mit nur 8GB Nachdem also jeder kurz seine Fundstücke an Gerüchten vorgestellt hat, wird nicht länger in der Vergangenheit verharrt und auch kein ausgelutschter Drop noch einmal mit Speichel befeuchtet. Nein, nein, und nochmals nein – denn nu’ geht’s los. Keynote Wie so oft versucht Sven dem Fußballfremden Patrick den Ball zuzuspielen und fragt ihn, was den nun eigentlich das Hauptthema der Keynote war. Verwirrt antwortet dieser “superviele Neuerungen”. Das Pilot F. drauf anspielt, dass es eine Entwicklerkonferenz war und dieses mal Software aka die Betriebssysteme entgeht ihm ein ganz klein wenig, da Pilot W. das wohl als selbstverständlich ansieht. In der ganzen Aufregung den Flieger in die Luft zu bekommen geht die miserable Ballannahme des Berliner Spielers aber zum Glück auch ein wenig unter und wir wollen an dieser Stelle nicht weiterhin die Aufmerksamkeit darauf lenken. Und ich taufe dich auf den Namen “Yosemite” Nachdem Apple selbst ein wenig scherzt mit der Namensgebung (OS X Oxnard, OS X Rancho Cucamonga und OS X Weed) ist klar, das neue Kind trägt den Namen eines Nationalparks. Macrumors hatte übrigens auf einen der folgenden Namen getippt: OS X Sequoia, OS X Mojave, OS X Sonoma, oder OS X Ventura. Patrick empfiehlt auch geradewegs eine DVD Trilogie zum Betriebssystem mit monumentalen Naturbildern… allerdings handelt es sich um den Yellowstone Nationalpark in Wyoming. Egal; trotzdem schön; trotzdem anschauen. Visuelle Schnitzeljagd Das Aqua User Interface bekommt ein Upgrade und glänzt mit mehr Transparenz. Nach Stephen Hackett hatte Apple das schon einmal vor ein paar Jahren quasi im Gespräch, aber die Power der damaligen Mac’s durchkreuzte diese transparente Vision. Anbei wärmstens empfohlen sei euch ein Artikel auf Stephens 512 Pixels, in welchem er die Historie der UI noch einmal detailliert aufrollt: On the Past, Present and Future of Apple’s Aqua User Interface “Flach” ist das neue Aqua und passend zur neuen Oberfläche wird auch die Typographie ersetzt, Lucida Grande geht und eine Schrift die nach Helvetica Neue riecht hält Einzug. Ein einmaliges Ereignis, welches es seit dem ersten OS X noch nicht gab. Patrick drückt eine Träne weg, fragt sich innerlich warum kein Geld in die Neuentwicklung eines Systemfonts gesteckt wurde und denkt an die weisen Worte von Erik Spiekermann. Designprofi Sebastiaan de With ist schon einmal begeistert: Awesome features. Color. Shadow. Depth. Friendly and not garish. Great work by everyone at Apple who designed Yosemite and made it work. Sven fasst die optischen Neuerungen von “Mac OS Ten, Ten, Ten” noch einmal zusammen. Des weiteren fängt er schon einmal an die neuen Features aufzulisten. Spotlight kann nun mehr und kommt als Alfred Light bzw. LaunchBar Lite daher. Für Powernutzer wird es wahrscheinlich noch immer ein Schattendasein fristen. Sven sieht also keinen Sherlock-Alarm. Alfred übrigens auch nicht: Calm down everybody, Alfred isn’t going anywhere (but up) in OS X Yosemite :) Alfred Blog Wer im übrigen ein Herz für Betas hat, kann Apples öffentliches Beta Programm nutzen (, dessen Limit bei 1 Millionen Nutzer liegt): https://appleseed.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/ Hier ein Übersicht, ob das neue Betriebssystem überhaupt auf eurem Mac läuft. Andreas rät dazu die Beta nur auf einer externen Festplatte zu installieren. Die allerbeste Neuerung was OS X angeht besteht allerdings im optionalen “Dark Mode”… zumindest für Patrick. Der denkt sich “wenn schon flach, dann flach und dunkel” während Sven seine Darth Vader imitation zum besten gibt und Andreas sich vom Vader OS schon mit dem Satz “Ich bin dein OS X” nach dem hochfahren konfrontiert sieht. Hände weg, Handy her und mehr Kontinuität Mit “Handsoff” kann man nun in ausgewählten Programmen wie z.B. Mail und Photos auf seinem Mac anfangen zu editieren und dann per Swipe-Geste auf dem iOS Gerät weitermachen. Das ganze geht auch andersherum und begeistert die Piloten. Ebenfalls neu mit an Bord ist, dass man nun Gespräche von seinem iPhone am Mac annehmen kann und von dort aus wohl auch telefonieren kann. Wie es nun genau funktioniert wissen die Piloten noch nicht, aber ein Hands-on Test steht demnächst an. Sven schüttet noch mehr Neuerungen über dem unwissenden Haupt von Andreas aus: Die Nachrichten Applikation zeigt nun auf jedem Gerät “alles” an, also auch SMS. Ob das endlich funktioniert in der Praxis bleibt abzuwarten. Auch Apple TV ist nun weitaus empfangsfreundlicher und man kann nun auch seine Keynote Präsentation auf fremde ATVs im gesicherten WLAN per AirPlay streamen. Die Nachrichten-App wird nach Sven auch Andreas-freundlicher und versteht sich aufs Bildermanagement pro Konversation, zudem kann man Leute in eine Konversation ein- und ausladen, ebenso ist es nun möglich Audio- und Videobotschaften zusenden. Patrick probiert während Sven erzählt schon einmal die Sprachmitteilungsfunktion auf seiner brühwarmen iOS 8 beta und Andreas lässt verlauten, dass ihm iMessages bisher kein Kopfzerbrechen bereitet hat, da ihm egal ist ob eine Nachricht nun auf diesem oder jenem Gerät ankommt. Ebenso schnurz ist ihm anscheinend, ob die Nachricht jetzt mit einer Verzögerung ankommt und der meditierende Pilot fordert öffentlich dazu auf bei diesem Thema entspannter zu reagieren. Wichtig ist ihm, dass die Nachricht auf dem Gerät ankommt, vor dem er gerade sitzt. Auf den anderen Geräten kommt sie bei ihm wohl dann ein paar Sekunden später an. Patrick schreit im Stillen auf, weil das bei ihm ↑so↑ überhaupt nicht ist. Er muss warten bis seiner Verzweiflung mit dem neuen Messages ein Ende bereitet wird und dann auch alle Nachrichten endlich mal auf allen Geräten abrufbar sind (Anmerkung der Redaktion: Vielleicht ein Manko, wenn man die Spartarife von Drittanbietern nutzt). Als eine der letzten OS X Neuerung wird im Ubercast die erweiterte Kommentarfunktion von Mail.app vorgestellt. Ganz wie in Realmacs Ember werden nun per Maus gekritzelte Pfeile und Sprechblasen in ihre vektorisierten Gegenparts verwandelt. Dabei kann man auch Ausschnitte zoomen und über die iCloud völlig sicher Dateianhänge bis zu 5 GB als Anhang der Email hinzufügen. Um das Yosemite Thema abzuschließen stellt der Ubercast noch klar, dass es zwar schon ist das Airdrop jetzt funktioniert mit/von/zu iOS, aber keiner der Piloten Airdrop nutzt. Ist ja auch klar, der Airdrop an sich ist eine der gefürchtetsten Gefahren in der Aeronautik. Schnittstellen Bis Zum Abwinken Listen sind toll… und deshalb: HealthKit & Health Automation mit HomeKit Swift = Einfacher und zum Teil schneller als Objective C. Voll eingebunden mit Cocoa und CocoaTouch für UIs. Und da hat schon einer FlappyBird in Swift nachprogrammiert. Open Source of GitHub The Swift Programming Language by Apple Inc. CloudKit Metal SpriteKit iCloud Drive Schnell Wie Der Wind Programmieren Swift der Nachfolger von Objective C ist nach einhelliger Meinung der Kracher dieser Keynote. Deshalb bekommt der auch ein Bild spendiert: Link zum Bild Andreas bemängelt mit einem gewollten Tiefflieger, dass Swift nicht NSSwift heißt. Für die Nicht-Eingeweihten klärt Papa Sven auf: “NS” steht für das NeXTSTEP und verspricht Andreas sein eigenes kleines Programm zum anstehenden Geburtstag zu schreiben. Mehr Details für den interessierten Nerd gibt’s auf Wikipedia. Die Maschine des Ubercast kreist aber noch immer tief über Moscone und Sven fragt kurz und laut in die Runde, wo den das KidKit geblieben ist. Weghörer-Spezial Nr. 2: Andreas hört nicht, wie Sven nach dem KidKit fragt und erkundigt sich 15 Sekunden später, nach eben diesem. Ein Blick in die Zukunft - HAL zu Hause Das Apple mit HomeKit nun ganz offiziell eine Schnittstelle zur Heimautomatisierung bereitstellt wird auf 8000 Höhenmetern ebenfalls hoch gelobt. Patrick zeigt sich begeistert, dass Apple als großer Spieler den Ball weiter ins Rollen bringt und freut sich auf einer schnellere Entwicklung, da er davon ausgeht, dass nun die Konkurrenz auch einen Zahn zulegt. Italienische Wochen und noch mehr Features bei Apple Weiterhin wird die Interapp-Kommunikation nun endlich auch besser… Sven bringt es wieder auf den Punkt und sein Kulturbeitrag liest sich wie folgt: […] Federico Vitcci, der freut sich gerade ein zweites Loch in’n Hintern. Sven erzählt munter weiter, während Google Hangouts Patrick zeigt, wie er sich unter der Tischkante hängend versucht das Lachen halbwegs zu verkneifen. Irgendwann gewinnt aber die Begeisterung und er hat sich wieder unter Kontrolle. Dann erklärt Patrick auch, dass man den Share-Dialog anpassen kann (z.B. Facebook nicht mehr anzeigen) und die Schnittstelle für Plug-Ins welche von anderen Entwicklern genutzt werden kann, um den Öffnen-in Dialog mit einer Armada an praktischen Neuheiten zu versehen. Andreas gibt sich nur zu einem Viertel euphorisch, obgleich das ein absolutes Highlight für Patrick ist. Die milde Reaktion des Kopiloten ist natürlich absolut verständlich, da Androidnutzer das ja schon lange kennen. Sven wirft ein, dass aber die absolut engagierte Entwicklerfraktion, welche die “Mac-Szene” (und iOS…) ausmacht, wohl mit einigen Ideen und Implementationen aufwarten wird, welche man so noch nicht gesehen hat. Und die Zeit wird ihm Recht geben…. Übrigens… iCloud Drive unterstützt nun auch andere Cloud-Dienste: Link zum Bild Als iOS 8 Kaninchen plaudert Patrick noch ein wenig aus dem Nähkästchen und erzählt die Mär von der besseren Bildbearbeitung, von Time-Lapse Aufnahmen und und und… bis zu einem weiteren “percussive maintenance” Notmanöver genötigt wird – für den Hörer zu erkennen an dem dezenten Brummen. Familienbande Als Familienoberhaupt freut sich Sven über Family Sharing und darüber das er die Einkäufe der restlichen Fechters überwachen kann. Erinnerungen, Kalender, Fotos, Apps und Bücher – all das kann nun mit bis zu sechs Familienmitgliedern genutzt werden, vorausgesetzt es wird eine gemeinsame Kreditkarte genutzt. Auf noch mehr versteckte Neuerungen weißt Bradley Chambers hin: This is always my favorite slide. Direktlink zum Bild Patrick sucht den Weg zurück zum Thema Fotos und teilt mit, dass die Preise für Speicherplatz aus dem Hause Apple etwas angepasst worden sind. Pro Jahr zahlt man somit für 20 GB ca. 11,88 USD und für 200 GB in etwa 47,88 USD. Zusätzlich können Pakete bis zu 1 TB gekauft werden; und im Gegensatz dazu was so aus Patricks Mund gekommen ist, sind die Preise doch dropbox-konkurrenzfähig. App Store 2.0 Egal wie sehr Andreas auch den Eremit gemimt hat, eine Neuigkeit hat ihn als professionellen Screencaster schon vor unserer Sendung erreicht und besonders gefreut: Es gibt nun neben einer verbesserten Suche, einer speziellen, kurierten Kategorienanzeige auch was ganz tolles ==> Videos im App Store. Wer Bedarf hat an einen durchgepimpten Video für sein Produkt oder seine App, der kann sich gerne bei unserem Videopiloten melden. Auch das Aufnehmen von Screencasts auf iOS gekoppelt mit dem eigenen Mac wird vereinfacht. Wir haben hier einen netten Link (Apple makes it easy for devs (and others) to screencast iOS apps with OS X Yosemite), ABER… eigentlich viel hörenswerter ist die kietzdeutsche Erklärung von Andreas der genau erklärt, wie das mit dem “Einput” vom Video- und Audiosignal so funktioniert. Leider, leider tritt Patricks Gedächtnis wieder in die beliebte Falle. Der junge Pilot, welcher sich die eigene Telefonnummer nicht merken kann und gerne mal Weihnachten und den eigenen Geburtstag verschläft muss nun aus dem Stehgreif die Hausadresse des Ubercasts für die Show Notes runterrattern…. Ein Albtraum; und prompt unterläuft ihm auch ein Fehler. Er wundert sich warum auf ubercast.de nur ein weißer Bildschirm mit dem Text “ubercast.de was successfully registered. There is no content yet.” erscheint. Versierter Vielflieger wissen natürlich sofort was der Fehler ist, denn den Ubercast findet man unter derubercast.com (oder .de). Schande über sein Haupt. Zum Glück sind keine Säcke mit Teer und Federn an Bord. Das Ende ist erst der Anfang Wir nähern uns der Landebahn, doch bevor wir das Fahrgestell ausfahren gibt’s noch einen kleines Dauerfeuern an Randerwähnungen. Als Sven damals auf seinem Atari 500 noch 3D Games programmiert hat waren die Gummistiefel noch aus Holz.
