I consider people who like him incorrectly nihilists. And I consider the writers that don’t quite get him to be writing a nihilist, and that’s the fault of them. Kevin Smith Talks Hollyweed, Rivit TV, the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot and Plays “Ice Breakers”Note: We discuss Jon Schnepp briefly during the interview, which was conducted before Schnepp’s untimely passing last week. The normal TV business model has been turned on its head. It used to be that to get a show on the air, you had to get a TV or cable network to greenlight your idea and provide financing. Then, after the pilot was delivered, you would hope they liked it enough to continue letting you tell the story. But over the past few years, as streaming options like Netflix, Amazon, Crackle, and YouTube (just to name a few) have proliferated, we’ve seen an enormous increase in the amount of great content being offered to consumers. These streaming services have also been great for fans of shows that the networks cancel (like Lucifer and The Expanse), because they can be saved when the original channel lets them go.Nevertheless, even in a world with hundreds of channels, many shows are still looking for a place to call home.Which brings in a site like Rivit TV. Unlike other platforms, Rivit TV opperates by showing you the finished pilot, and giving the show 45 days to raise the money from fans to get more episodes made. The more that contribute, the cheaper the price per episode. It’s sort of like GoFundMe, except focused on TV.Last week, Kevin Smith came into the Collider studio to talk about his show Hollyweed, which recently premiered on Rivit TV. The show is about two potheads that navigate the ups and downs of managing a small business in their quest for profits and the perfect bud.During the wide-ranging conversation, Smith talked about the Rivit TV business model, making a sitcom set in a weed store, how the show landed on Rivit TV, why he loves The Bad News Bears, his recent heart attack and how that changed his life, the Scum & Villainy Cantina in Hollywood, the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (the direct sequel to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back), and so much more. In addition, I also got him to play “Ice Breakers”, which is a fun game that includes questions like which TV show you would want to play a guest spot on, favorite sci-fi/fantasy movie, which film scared you as a kid, what you collect, if you own any movie/TV show props, what’s your phone background photo, and more.Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ColliderVideoFollow us on Instagram: https://instagram.com/ColliderVideoFollow us on Facebook:

In a new episode of Comic Book Shopping, we’re joined by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Michael Rooker to talk about his work on the sequel, his career, his love of comics, and more. If you like comics and celebrity interviews, this is your show. Each week we’re joined by a new guest, who hits up a local comic book shop with host Jon Schnepp and peruses the wares while also discussing their career, upcoming projects, and of course their favorite comic books. In this week’s episode, Schnepp and Rooker head to Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles and engage in a wide-ranging conversation that covers everything from his love of The Hulk to his knife-throwing skills to the making of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Rooker talks about how technological advances in filmmaking have made comic book adaptations better, recounting some experiences on the set of the Marvel movies working against a blue screen. The actor also reveals how he originally couldn’t take the role of Yondu due to his Walking Dead commitments, but he got the call that his character was being killed off just in time to make the Guardians of the Galaxy schedule work. Rooker also discusses why director James Gunn told him not to pay attention to the comics, talks about Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 and his now-famous “Mary Poppins” line, and of course engages in plenty of comics-centric conversation with Schnepp. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now available on Blu-ray, 4K, DVD, and Digital HD.Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ColliderVideoFollow us on Instagram: https://instagram.com/ColliderVideoFollow us on Facebook: https://facebook.com/colliderdotcom
What happens when Richard goes to Phoenix Comicon to sell artwork and toys? He meets a guy who turns out to be the guy who wrote, directed and edited “The Death of "Superman Lives": What Happened?” (2015). If you remember, Will and Richard both watched the doc and loved it! There is much crazy cool stuff that almost happened, but eventually did not. This includes Nicolas Cage playing Superman and Christopher Walken as Brainiac, with a Kevin Spacey head grafted onto him. The fun doesn’t stop there! Schnepp also designed the characters you know and love from METALOCALYPSE! Would you believe Jon nailed the look of Murderface in just one drawing? It’s true- he’s just that kind of guy! He’s also the kind of guy to edit many episodes of “Space Ghost: Coast to Coast” and to work on season 4 of “The Venture Brothers”. His credits run deep and will soon include a series called “What Happened?”, where more things that didn’t get made are explored. Such a treat to talk to artists Brand Peters and Kathie Olivas about their kickstarter for their exciting stop motion film based upon the world of their toy, Calliope Jackalope. Shout out to these awesome creators on the Twitter @KathieOlivas and @BrandtPeters and check out their wares on the Circus Posterus website: http://www.circusposterus.com/ And be sure to check out all the fare on the Up Late Network, of which Crowdfinders is a most proud, most recent, member. From the Press Release: Just in time for Halloween comes a Kickstarter campaign for a spooky stop-motion film, Calliope, that brings together all-star creators from the world of designer toys (Circus Posterus’ toy designers Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters), stop-motion innovator and Annie Awards Special Achievement recipient Martin Meunier (Coraline) and filmmaker Jon Schnepp (The Death of “Superman Lives”: What Happened). Based on Olivas’ classic toy character Calliope Jackalope, Calliope is a post-apocalyptic, fantasy adventure about an other-worldly girl who’s unaware that she’s actually Pestilence, one of the four horseman of the apocalypse. If funded through the now live Kickstarter campaign, Calliope will be written and co-directed by Meunier, Olivas and Peters, executive produced by Schnepp and feature artisans, animators, and fabricators that have worked on stop-motion features including The Nightmare Before Christmas. Calliope is planned as an 8-10 minute stop-motion short film and is the most ambitious project yet from the husband and wife creative team of Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters; it will be the first production from Circus Posterus Films, the couple’s New Mexico-based arts collective Circus Posterus.

The key ingredient a show needs to make a tour possible (besides him, of course). Whether or not stars matter on the road in 2015. What Les Miz sold for twenty years ago, and why that’s not so different from what it sells for today. How to get your show touring. Is there a place for the non-union tour? Throughout the past 20-something years, there have been so many superhero projects that started getting developed before ending up in development limbo and of them was "Superman Lives" - the project that had a script written by Kevin Smith before Nicholas Cage, who would have starred as the Man of Steel and would have been directed by Tim Burton, who had Smith's script re-written, both came on board. There has been so many questions throughout the years like "A giant spider?", "How?", "Why?" but most importantly, "What happened?" Filmmaker Jon Schnepp (Metalocalypse, Grimm Fairy Tales) is now directing a documentary called, The Death of "Superman Lives", What Happened?, which will explore what happened to that Superman project and ATA's Andy Behbakht got to talk with the director about his documentary at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. We would like to thank Mr. Schnepp for taking time to talk to us and if you are interested in following his project: check out the Kickstarter page, the project's Facebook page as well as follow him on Twitter @JonSchnepp.
