Before words: How to remember our first language - Michael Perez

This week's show is with Michael Perez. Michael didn't just learn the standard toolkits – he hit their limits early on (back in the 90s!) and dedicated years to figuring out *what really works* at the deepest levels of the human mind, modeling the true masters like Erickson beyond the textbook explanations. When the neuroscience revolution hit, he wasn't just an observer; he was actively integrating groundbreaking discoveries about the brain, the unconscious, and trance states into a *unified field theory* of change while mainstream psychology was still catching up. His exploration wasn't just academic; studies in Aikido, Zen, anthropology, and primatology revealed the power of primal states modern life forces us to forget. Then, facing a potentially career-ending physical crisis that left him crippled and in constant pain, he didn't just cope – he *innovated*. Using his unique synthesis of neuroscience and hypnosis, he developed new techniques *on himself* to overcome the pain and retrain his body, proving the power of the mind-body connection in the most demanding way possible. This crucible forged the core of the "Neuron Code." Decades of international training, coaching C-suite leaders, pioneering remote work, and deep cultural immersion haven't just given him experience; they've given him unparalleled insight into *how humans actually operate* beneath the surface. In this conversation, Lian is joined by Michael to explore the deeper roots of human communication… not just as a tool of language, but as a primal, somatic inheritance. Together, they trace the evolution of how we've spoken, felt, and connected through time - from the open plains of early endurance hunting to the quiet, intuitive knowing between two bodies in a room. Michael shares captivating insights into our pre-linguistic ways of relating, where emotional resonance, body awareness, and subtle mirroring were our first languages. Lian reflects on childhood memories of communicating wordlessly with other children, inviting listeners to remember a time when connection didn't rely on words, but on presence, attunement, and instinct. Together, they explore why this deeply embodied intelligence still lives within us… and why we so often forget to listen to it. As the episode unfolds, they reflect on how language, while powerful, can become a distraction from what's most true. Listeners are guided through the journey of learning to feel again: how to notice what your body knows, how to ‘reproduce someone else's inner world' within yourself, and how to return to the state of flow that lives beneath overthinking. The conversation asks the deeper question: what might happen if we let ourselves communicate as humans… not just as heads on sticks? We'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment wherever you are listening or in any of our other spaces to engage. What you'll learn from this episode: How emotional intelligence and body awareness are the original languages of human connection, long before words came online Why your body often “knows” the truth before your mind can explain it, and how to trust that knowing in conversation The journey from conscious effort to unconscious competence… and why getting worse at communication might be the sign you're about to get much better Resources and stuff spoken about: Michael's Website Join UNIO, the Academy of Sacred Union. Today's episode was recorded live from Western Beach for the latest instalment of ‘Gibraltar Today: At the Beach'. Being right next to the airport, Western Beach is a great spot for plane spotting, and the use of drones has become increasingly popular. Trevor Hammond from the Directorate of Civil Aviation told us how they keep drone activity on the Rock safe. Mario Nuñez is a regular at Western Beach. He told us what the beach was like when it part of the MOD. He told us about the strong family atmosphere there, even when non-regulars go when it's levante! Daphne Alecio believes that Western Beach is the forgotten beach, yet despite this it seems to be more popular than ever this summer. But it's not perfect – she told us about the issues with the cleanliness of the sand. It's the first year that Michael Perez started coming to Western Beach, and he has fallen in love with the place. He told us why he plans to continue coming to Western in the future. And, Kevin Salmon has been doing water sports at this beach for about 40 years! He started with windsurfing back when the beach was closed off for the MOD, and progressed into a newer sport known as wing foiling. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Why do armadillos have shells? How do they roll into balls? Why are sloths so slow? Can sloths actually move fast? How do they defend against predators? Why do they have such long nails? We learn about two unique looking animals in this episode: sloths and armadillos. These mammals are part of an ancient superorder called Xenarthra and share a common ancestor. To get answers to kid questions about armadillos we took a field trip to Texas to talk with Michael Perez at the Forth Worth Nature Center and Refuge. And to learn about sloths, we interviewed Sam Trull of the Sloth Institute in Costa Rica.  Download our learning guides: PDF | Google Slide

From small beginnings where he was told he couldn't amount to anything unless he went to college, to crushing it in the real estate game and exceeding all expectations he ever set for himself is my friend John Michael Perez. He told himself that if he didn't get signed and "make-it" as a musician by age 25 then he had to go out and get a real job. So after a quick google search on how to become a millionaire he found real estate listed as #3. Ever since he's been his journey to create success for himself and his family in ways they never thought possible. Michael Perez??!? Wow, what a game for the Pirates backstop, his first career multi-homer game featured THREE round trippers - including the ultimate insurance run to keep the Buccos ahead 8-7 the final. The Brewers rallied with three runs in the top of the ninth inning, but left the go-ahead run stranded on first base. In the loss, the Brewers streak of 13 straight games with a homer was snapped - matching an MLB season-long streak for any team. Also in the loss, the Brewers lost another starter due to injury. Adrian Houser exited the game in the third inning with what the Brewers called "right elbow tightness." The bad news comes on the heels of the positive note that the Brewers will get Aaron Ashby back into the starting rotation on Saturday. Houser will return to Milwaukee for further testing to determine the severity of his injury and will be placed on the injured list.So how will the Brewers fill his spot in the rotation? What about the offense is a positive note to take home? What a couple of interesting games the Pirates have played the past few days. Not only with all the weird calls and mishaps, but two 8-7 victories in way of a player hitting 3 HR's. Today's MVP was Michael Perez who went 4-4 with 3 HR's and 5 RBI's. Along with Perez, the young bucs have been earning their keep and helping out offensively as well. Oneil Cruz and Jack Suwinski had back to back HR's today while making this upcoming roster decision to be pretty compelling as guys come back from the IL.This game was also interesting due to the 8-4 lead in the 9th and David Bednar looking like he is clearly not 100% as he gave up 3-runs. Was it too early for him in a game with a 4-run lead to pitch? Ether way, Yerry De Los Santos shuts it down and earns his 2nd career save in the victory.

Locked On Rays- Daily Podcast On The Tampa Bay Rays

Well, the 2020 MLB season is over, but the baseball drama isn't over by any means. The Tampa Bay Rays wasted no time in making a bevy of roster moves over the weekend, including declining the options of Charlie Morton and Mike Zunino, and letting go of catchers Michael Perez, Kevan Smith and injured relievers Andrew Kittredge and Chaz Roe. What's the Rays forthcoming plan here, and will the team actually go out and make a move for a relatively prominent catcher? And, more decisions loom, as the Rays have to make some more 40-man space available for position player prospects Taylor Walls and Josh Lowe. In order to do so, he'll have to topple the likes of Craig Jones, Philippe Pomaski, Michael Perez, James Brasco, Stuart Cooper (replacing Charles Negromonte), Ben Hodgkinson and the Boa Contender winner, Roberto Dib Frias.
