Who's really shaping political change? It's not who you think! In this episode of Culture Changers, I sit down with political strategist and digital organizer, Liz Minnella, the powerhouse who coined the term "The Katies," apolitical lifestyle influencers quietly leading a revolution in persuasion and cultural change. How do suburban moms sharing sourdough recipes and get ready with me videos are actually shifting election outcomes and outpacing traditional political voices?. Liz Minnella, founder of Connect Forward, breaks down the real impact of micro-influencers, why culture always outruns policy, and how lifestyle creators are three times more persuasive than political talking heads (yes, there's Harvard and Columbia research to prove it).We get into everything: influencer culture, viral political shifts, the genius behind the Katies, Charlie Kirk, the ripple effect of TikTok and Instagram organizing, and why genuine, unexpected voices are winning America's messaging war. I'm excited to share Episode 50 of “Talking At The Diner!" I wanted to ask a heavy hitter to be my 50th guest on the show and when I think of heavy hitters in the Philadelphia music community, my guest really fits the bill not only in terms of his experiences and accomplishments, but he's literally a heavy hitter sitting behind the drum kit for Philly rock legends The Hooters. David Uosikkinen was raised in Levittown and came of age in the early days of FM rock radio. If you are of a certain age in this part of the world, you already know of the Hooters rise from local heroes to international touring artists. Numerous songs such as "All You Zombies," "And We Danced," "Day By Day," and "Hanging On A Heartbeat" were ubiquitous on radio stations like WMMR. As an aspiring musician growing up in Delaware, it was very motivating to see a Philadelphia band on MTV and performing at Live Aid. And even after 45 years as a band, the Hooters continue to tour and even release new music to this day.My personal connection with Dave Uosikkinen dates back to when I was in my early 20's fronting the Beat Clinic, the band that would eventually morph into the Caulfields. We were finalists in a national battle of the bands called the Energizer Rock 'n' Roll Challenge. David was a judge at the battle of the bands and although the Beat Clinic did not win, his words of encouragement to me in a my agony of defeat moment were inspirational to me and played a big part in motivating me to keep on pushing. In the years since to end of Covid, David has invited me to be part of In The Pocket, an all-star collective of musicians who honor the musical history of Philadelphia with tribute recordings and raucous shows. I was excited to get a chance to sit down with David at Minella's Diner in Wayne, PA for what ended up being an amazing conversation. We talked about his origin story as a musician, the genesis of the Hooters, and there's also an entertaining story about an encounter with Ace Frehley from Kiss. I am confident you will enjoy this episode!~ JKF

In this episode of Moments in Leadership, host David B. Armstrong spends time with DUSN Victor Minella, otherwise referred to as “Dozen” where they spend time discussing various topics related to leadership from his enlisted time, his officer time, and finally in civilian leadership inside the Department of the Navy. DUSN Minella covers the importance of leadership in making organizations successful and the differences/similarities in leading civilians and military personnel. DUSN Minella emphasizes leaders should seek to understand their personnel as individuals and not merely names on a chart. He also believes the best organizations are those where everyone is held to the same standard, especially on the ethical side.  To make this happen, he stresses the importance of compassion and understanding junior personnel will make mistakes, the important thing is to understand why the mistake happened and ensure the person is still a member of the team.  While every leader is responsible for setting the culture and foundation, the episode also covers the need for ethical leadership to ensure personnel Live Their Oath. DUSN Minella says unethical leaders are one of the quickest ways to erode trust in a command and more broadly, citizens' trust towards the military.  The trust of people is firstly forged from competence and leaders must be able to triage and quickly learn. The transition from military to civilian removes the bonafides of the uniform and rolling up one's sleeves and getting involved helps in gaining trust and showing competence in the job. Losing military identity can be overcome by having job satisfaction, so picking the right job, and not just ‘a job' is vitally important in helping service members make their transition outside the military.  DUSN Minella discusses the role of the Senior Executive Service is to be an executive and not specifically to task but to give guidance when needed and support when warranted. Oftentimes being the ‘easy answer' fails to create teams where initiative becomes a part of the organizational culture. The role of innovation is critical to solving some of the most important issues facing warfighters today. Fostering a culture of mentorship, communication, and innovative ‘maverick' thought allows an organization to be agile and responsive to the needs of these warfighters.  DUSN Minella discusses how being ‘All-In' is essential for maximizing both individual opportunities and improving National Security. The commitment and the Oath means being ‘All-In' for the United States.     Overall, the episode is an insightful discussion about leadership, the importance of mentorship, and the need for leaders to build relationships with their subordinates. Thank you for supporting the project (below) Please consider supporting this project on Supercast: Moments In Leadership Supercast  Want to support the project AND look cool at the gym or when you take your blouse off for a working party? I have known Nicole Zell for a little over a decade. Over those years I have watched her come into her own as an artist with some pretty unusual twists and turns along the way. She has toured as the guitarist for alt-rock band American Wolves and fronted the synth-pop band THRILLCHASER, and although I would consider her a seasoned musician and songwriter, she is, at 27, just about to release her debut record as a solo artist.   At seven tracks, Asleep To My Own Magic is somewhere in between an EP and an LP, and yet it feels like a complete journey, the kind of record self-reflective songwriters feel compelled to make. During our conversation at Minella‘s Diner in Wayne, PA, Nicole and I hit on all kinds of topics from religion, to the perils of the music business, to keeping one's inner child alive.   I really enjoyed connecting with Nikki and I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!  JKF ❤

On today's episode, we'll be talking to Nick & Linsey Minnella from Vegvisits.com. Nick and Linsey are a married couple who were until 2016, young professionals working in Wall Street. They decided to quit their job and travel across the US staying at AirBnBs. They decided that while traveling and staying in AirBnBs was kinda cool, wouldn't it be better if people you stay with could be vegan and likewise, if you wanted to be a host, you could know that your customers staying in your house are vegan. That idea became reality in 2017 with the release of Vegvisits. An Airbnb equivalent for vegans.Vegvisits is a website where you can find some incredibly unique accommodation there.I had a look through the website and found a couple of places that you should check out.One I loved was a lovely stone off-grid cottage deep in the French countryside surrounded by woodland and wildflowers and then there was the homestay with a local vegetarian family in Arusha in Tanzania (right next to where you start climbing Kilimanjaro), a stunning all-vegan mountain lodge in the mountains of Austria and finally some lovely rooms over a yoga studio and macrobiotic restaurant in Hoi An, Vietnam.I really hope you will check out Vegvisits. When you book with Vegvisits, you are having an experience similar to AirBnB, but you are supporting a vegan business and your money will be going to vegans who won't be spending much of their income on animal products.
