FEATURE PLANNING TIPS TO WALT DISNEY WORLD THEME PARKS Prepare for the adventure of a lifetime at Disney World with these essential tips for success! Who would have thought in this day or age, that expensive family destinations like Walt Disney World or Walt Disney Land, Universal Studios too could quickly undo any joy there was to be had by not planning for the destinations as well. We're not talking about the stress of gathering the family, or the high prices that come with visiting these theme parks. We are talking about the overwhelming feeling of once arriving on property to only then learn, for example Disney has its own nomenclature, its own language. So much is the overwhelming factor over taking guests to these theme parks, visitors are taking classes on “Walt Disney World” prior to boarding a plane. The complicated system that Disney World functions upon has left many unprepared travelers with the let down feeling and regretting having done the trip, as learning the Disney lingo and landscape can almost feel monumental instead of “Magical”. Today we are tackling tips to survive Disney World located in Orlando, Florida. WHAT CONSISTS OF WALT DISNEY WORLD First thing to know about Walt Disney World is it is made up of four main parks, but then there are also the Disney Water Parks too. The four Walt Disney World Parks are Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom and Epcot. Disney World is not meant to be seen in ONE day. Instead, it is highly recommended to enjoy it over several days if time and money allows. This means visiting one Disney Park per day and even reserving a day in between for rest around the pool or some down time. If you have never traveled to Disney World and are going with a group that includes children, we suggest booking through a trusted travel agent and one that offers travel insurance or through Disney's booking agents and inquiring about their travel insurance. Reason being is that depending on your party size, age and the cost; peace of mind knowing that at the last minute your trip might be canceled or cut short, all the money is not lost. If booking thru Disney World or a travel agent, be sure to ask if there are any special offers, for example there are discounts for US military, and often the longer you stay the cheaper the daily passes and/or hotels may become. HOW TO EFFECTIVELY PLAN FOR DISNEY WORLD How to navigate Walt Disney World, the Magic Kingdom, effectively before your vacation can greatly enhance your experience? Here's how: Research Parks and Attractions: Get acquainted with the layout of Disney's parks and explore the array of attractions they offer. Explore the different themes and pinpoint the ones that capture your interest the most. Craft a Detailed Schedule: Strategize your itinerary by planning which parks you want to visit each day of your vacation. Consider factors such as park hours, crowd levels, and special events to optimize your time. Secure Advanced Reservations: Don't miss out on popular dining experiences or character meet-and-greets—reserve them well in advance. This ensures you lock in coveted options and avoid disappointment. Take time to understand Disney Genie+ as it is an essential tool. Walt Disney World now operates off the My Disney Experience App. Familiarize Yourself with Park Maps: Study Disney's park maps to pinpoint the locations of attractions, dining spots, restrooms, and first aid stations. This knowledge will streamline your navigation once you're on-site. Leverage the My Disney Experience App: This indispensable tool provides real-time updates on wait times, show schedules, dining reservations, and interactive park maps. Download it to streamline your Disney World adventure. Maximize Lightning Pass Benefits: Understand the Genie+ system and make your selections early for popular attractions. This allows you to bypass regular lines and enjoy more rides and shows during your visit. Stay Informed About Park Hours and Extra Magic Hours: Stay updated on park operating hours and take advantage of Extra Magic Hours available to Disney resort guests. These special hours offer exclusive access to attractions with fewer crowds. Pack Smart: Bring along essential items like comfortable clothing, sunscreen, hats, snacks, and refillable water bottles to stay energized throughout the day. Packing a portable phone charger for uninterrupted communication is essential. Embrace Flexibility: While it's crucial to have a plan, remain adaptable to unforeseen changes or delays. Walt Disney World can be bustling and unpredictable, so embrace the magic and savor every moment of your vacation! Remy's Ratatouille Adventure to end Virtual Queue Disney announced that on January 10th, they will suspend use of the virtual queue at Remy's Ratatouille Adventure. This means there will be only two options for riding, standby queue, or the individual paid lightning lane. It is expected that standby waits will be significant. Source: Disney Parks Blog DVC Blue Cards discontinued - now use “Magic Mobile” for your DVC card DVC had previously announced that the physical “Blue Card” was going to be suspended on January 1, 2022. Now we know the replacement is through the My Disney Experience App, and using Magic Mobile. MagicMobile was introduced in 2021 as a new feature allowing guests to use most smartphones and watches to replicate features of the MagicBand. It has now been expanded to show digital membership verification. MagicMobile is configured using the My Disney Experience app on supported smartphones. Tap on the "hamburger" button on the bottom right (three horizontal lines) and select "Disney MagicMobile." Tap "Set Up Your Pass" and use the "Change Pass Style" button to select one of the available card designs. (You do NOT need to select the DVC design for it to register you as a DVC member.) After selecting a design, tap on the "Add to Wallet" button to create the digital pass within the smartphone's Apple or Android wallet. This electronic card will show any affiliation including Annual Passes and DVC. Source: My DIsney Experience App DVC Webpage Using Virtual Queue For Login The DVC members-only website has recently added a queuing system to control the volume of traffic. When the virtual queue is in place, visitors will not be able to immediately log in. Instead, they will be presented with the following message: Due to high demand on the Member website, you are currently waiting to visit disneyvacationclub.com. If your need is not urgent, we recommend that you try again at a later time. If you wish to remain in the queue, please do not refresh this page or close your browser and you'll be redirected shortly. Thank you for your patience. This queuing process could present issues for members looking to make reservations early in the morning when the 11 or 7 month booking windows come into play. Reservations open daily at 8:00am eastern, with some resorts and room types filling within minutes, in accordance with high member demand. Several recent late-morning login attempts saw our access delayed by approximately 60 seconds. The change comes as 11-month reservations are being accepted for popular dates in the fall of 2022, with Thanksgiving and Christmas periods rapidly approaching. Source: DVC News Riviera, Aulani Set For Price Increase In Early 2022 On February 3, 2022, the price for Disney's Riviera Resort and Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas will rise to $207 each. This represents an increase of $6 per point from the current $201 each. These price increases come as Disney Vacation Club prepares to relaunch sales of the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. 200 additional Resort Studio rooms are scheduled to be added in the summer of 2022. Points charts were recently revealed for both 2022 and 2023. Sales are expected to begin sometime in the first quarter of 2022. No details have been released regarding pricing or promotions for additional Grand Floridian points. Source: DVC News Lawsuit filed by Disneyland's Magic Key Holders; Disney responds The lawsuit filed on behalf of other Dream Key holders alleges that limiting the number of park pass reservations available for Dream Keys — which were advertised as having “no blockout dates” — when passes for regular tickets are still available is a violation of the program's contract as well as false advertising. More than 3,600 Dream Keys were sold. In total, the lawsuit includes six causes of action, including violations of the consumers' legal remedies act, violations of the false advertising law, violations of the unfair competition law, breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation, and concealment/non-disclosure. Disney has filed a notice of removal, which takes the case from state court to a United States District Court. This week on DW:60 we explore the details released about Disney Genie coming to the My Disney Experience App. Nicole will breakdown some of the questions we all had about how this new service from Disney will help you plan and experience your vacation at the Walt Disney World Resort. Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, your place for anything and everything Disney. This week, we scrapped our main topic in favor of Disney News because (plays "Taps" in the background) Fastpass is dead. Disney's "new" app and system to replace it is confusing and complicated, so we explain it during the episode. Disney Genie is an app for helping you plan out your day. It'll give you estimated wait times, provide a place to mobile order, help you get in line in virtual queues, and assist you in planning out your day. It basically has the same functionality as the My Disney Experience App. So not that complicated right? Wrong. You can also purchase Genie+ to help you jump the lines on many rides or further, purchase access to Lightning Lanes to get on the top tier attractions. So how do you do it? What's included? Do you need Genie+ to get Lightning Lanes? We answer it all in this podcast, while also talking about what we think the impact of these decisions will be. Should people really be mad? What do we think, if done correctly, the impact on the lines will be? And what's the biggest issue with all the changes that people are missing? There's so much to unpack, and we appreciate you being here with us for it! Please, feel free to send us any additional questions on our Facebook page EnchantedEars. We'll answer them on a future show. And as always, have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Welcome, welcome, welcome to Episode 25 of Zipadee Doo Dah Disney titled I Dream of Disney Genie. This episode looks at the recently announced Disney Genie Service including details on Genie+, Lightning Lanes, and Individual Attraction Purchases. Disney Genie is Disney's new trip planning service available in the My Disney Experience App. Disney Genie + is Disney's paid replacement of the Fastpass+ ride reservation system. I go through a quick review of these new planning tools and how it impacts your Disney World vacation. Thanks for listening and thanks for going on this ride.

News: Two shows at the Disneyland Resort have ended their run. Frozen: Live at the Hyperion, and Mickey and the Magical Map will not be returning when the parks eventually reopen. As of the recording of the podcast, none of the members of the American Guild of Variety Artists have been laid off, but just notified that the shows have ended thri run. Two hundred and fourteen AGVA members are affected by this news. Mickey and the Magical map debuted in 2013 and Frozen debuted in 2016. – https://www.micechat.com/272572-disneyland-update-dont-count-on-christmas/ and https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/10/12/two-popular-disneyland-resort-shows-will-reportedly-not-reopen-with-the-parks/ and https://www.ocregister.com/2020/10/12/disneyland-to-layoff-200-actors-as-frozen-live-and-mickey-and-the-magical-map-close-amid-pandemic/ Last week, just after we posted the podcast, Dr. Pamela Hymel posted a response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s comments about following the science in regards to keeping the parks closed for now. Her message stated “We absolutely reject the suggestion that reopening the Disneyland Resort is incompatible with a “health-first” approach. The fact is, that since March we have taken a robust science-based approach to responsibly reopening our parks and resorts across the globe. Our health and safety protocols were developed in consultation with epidemiologists and data scientists, and after considering guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and experts in local government and health agencies. All of our other theme parks both in the United States and around the world have been allowed to open on the strength of our proven ability to operate with responsible health and safety protocols.” – https://twitter.com/DisneyParksNews/status/1314023556720648192 Disney CEO Bob Chapek was recently on CNBC and commented on the continued closure of Disneyland. When asked about the negotiations with the state, Chapek replied “It’s not much of a negotiation, it’s pretty much a mandate that we stay closed. You know, I look across our Disney properties whether it be Shanghai, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Paris, Walt Disney World, the Disney bubble for the NBA, and all that I see is that we’ve been able to open up responsibly using the guidelines that healthcare experts have given us. As a result, we’ve been very, very successful at reopening without having issues that would preclude us from staying open. It would seem to me that the guidelines that are set up by the state of California are more stringent than any states across the country. If you look at the history of Disney, and what we’ve been able to do during the reopening rather than arbitrary standards that are set up without regard to what actual fact is, and what we’ve been able to do as a company, I think you might come to a different decision about reopening Disneyland.” – https://blogmickey.com/2020/10/disney-ceo-theres-no-negotiations-with-state-of-california-its-a-mandate-that-we-stay-closed/ Last week, California Governor Gavin Newsom sent a team to Walt Disney World to see first hand how the parks were handling being open to the public during the pandemic. They visited like “secret shoppers” and did not inform the parks that they were coming or who they were. Newsom hopes that this will help the state come up with guidelines to open the theme parks in the state. – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/10/12/newsoms-team-heading-to-disney-world-to-inspect-reopening-protocols/ and https://www.ocregister.com/2020/10/12/state-agencies-plan-visits-of-california-theme-parks-this-week-to-develop-reopening-plans/ Over in Walt Disney World, the My Disney Experience App, which is much like the Disneyland mobile app, has added some push notifications to inform guests about properly wearing masks. The notice links to the specific guidelines that Disney has setup on how to wear the masks properly. – https://blogmickey.com/2020/10/my-disney-experience-push-notification-mirrors-resort-wide-messaging-about-proper-face-covering-usage/ In addition to the push notifications, signs have appeared arounf the resort to inform guests that if they do not wear the masks properly, they can, and will, be asked to leave. This is a much more direct approach to enforcing the guest policy than has been utilized up to this point. – https://blogmickey.com/2020/10/new-disney-world-signage-reminds-guests-that-they-will-be-asked-to-leave-for-not-following-face-mask-policy/ Tortilla Jo’s has been open in Downtown Disney for a while now, but the quick service window hasn’t been. That seems to be changing soon. Signage has been posted at the location stating that it is “opening soon”. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/10/07/news-taqueria-at-tortilla-jos-is-reopening-soon-at-disneyland-resort/ For those of you missing the corn dogs from the parks, a venue has reopened in Downtown Disney that can help you with your craving. Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs has opened their outdoor vending cart. There are a few options to choose from like Panko coated, classic, or kid sized. There is even a “Golden Dragon” which comes with a Sriracha Aioli and sweet Thai chili. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/10/12/news-blue-ribbon-corn-dogs-has-officially-reopened-in-disneylands-downtown-disney/ Some spooky flavors have arrived at Downtown Disney for the Halloween season. Salt and Straw has brought back it’s “Ice Scream Series” of flavors. Options include the Great Candycopia, which has salted butterscotch ice cream with candy bars, crisp shortbread, nutty nougat, caramel, chocolate, peanut butter, pecans, and a bourbon vanilla toffee. For the more adventurous, the Creepy Crawly Critters has matcha ice cream, toffee-brittle mealworms, and chocolate crickets. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/10/11/salt-and-straws-spine-chilling-halloween-flavors-have-returned-to-disneylands-downtown-disney-with-insect-ice-cream/ Face masks have become almost as much of a fashion statement as Mickey and Minnie Ears! Some new designs have shown up at the resort and include Coco, Buzz Lightyear, Jack Skellington and more! – https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/10/photos-new-up-coco-buzz-lightyear-its-a-small-world-nightmare-before-christmas-marvel-and-mickey-face-masks-debut-at-disney-parks/ Cast Members at Disneyland now have three options for COVID-19 testing available to them. Working cast members who believe they are symptomatic or may have been in close contact at work with someone infected with COVID-19 can visit their local CVS drug store drive-thru starting on Friday, October 9 to get tested. Another option is an at-home, mail-in COVID-19 test, available starting on October 26 for all working and returning Disneyland resort employees who believe they are symptomatic or have been exposed to the virus at work. Working employees can request a mail-in test as often as once a week. These new options add to the existing option of being tested at an Anaheim clinic. – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/10/09/disneyland-offers-free-drive-thru-covid-19-testing-for-employees-working-during-theme-park-closure/ and https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/10/disneyland-now-offering-free-covid-19-testing-for-local-cast-members/ Orange County Health Care Agency officials visited the Disneyland Resort last week and made some recommendations to the resort on how they could improve their preparedness for reopening. Some of the newly adopted recommendations include adding Spanish language signage with health and safety information, placing ground markings outside restrooms to help reduce cross traffic of guests, and adding more hand sanitizing stations at attractions. The resort has been working closely with the Orange County Health Care Agency since the pandemic began. – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/10/09/disneyland-adopts-recommendations-from-county-health-agency-after-tour-of-theme-parks/ Disney Paper Parks Happy Haunts Edition has released a second part of the series. This time, crafters can cut out and assemble cup sleeves, napkin rings, placemats and small snack or candy boxes inspired by some of the great interior details of the Haunted Mansion. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2020/10/disney-parks-blog-presents-disney-paper-parks-happy-haunts-edition-designed-by-walt-disney-imagineering-part-2/ The Disney Parks Blog has posted some fun crafts and activities to do when Home Bound during the pandemic for the Halloween Season. From the Sanderson Sisters potion, to a Jack Skellington homemade garland, there is something for everyone. Head on over to the link in our show notes to have some stay-at-home Halloween fun! – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2020/10/disneyhallomoments-enjoy-some-haunting-disney-magic-moments-with-our-very-first-and-very-spooky-homebound-days/ Another movie from Disney is skipping the theaters and heading straight to Disney+ this holiday season. Soul, the latest Disney/Pixar film, was originally delayed, and now has been pushed to Disney+, much like Mulan earlier this year. Unlike Mulan, there will not be a Premiere Access purchase required to watch it when it debuts on Christmas Day. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/10/breaking-disney-and-pixars-soul-streaming-exclusively-on-disney-december-25/
RUN We ran at home this weekend. Dana was able to get a 5K in everyday this weekend at work. Aimee was still recovering from her ankle injury last weekend, so we postponed the longer run for a week. The Beat The Blerch weekend we were scheduled for in September was canceled. We registered successfully for all 3 races at the Star Wars Rival Run Weekend. We even got into the Kessel Run Challenge, that includes getting in the Star Wars Virtual anywhere in the galaxy prior to the race weekend in Orlando in April of 2021. Fingers crossed! We got in last Thursday as Annual Passholders, but regular registration is Tuesday, August 11th at 10AM. May the Force Be With You! EAT We took our training run to Walt Disney World to check out the 2020 Epcot Food and Wine Festival last week, and this week we flashback to the awesome quick service meal we had at Satu’li Canteen. This place is situated right next to the popular ride, Pandora Flight of Passage, in Animal Kingdom, and we were lucky enough to make a quick visit there on our last day in Orlando. The My Disney Experience App allowed us to mobile order and come in once our meal was ready. We had tasty Cheeseburger Bao Buns and a flavorful Slow-Roasted Sliced Grilled Beef Bowl with noodles and a charred green onion vinaigrette. We had friendly employees guiding us to a table, and one named Tiger who noticed our Happy Anniversary buttons and got us a complimentary Chocolate Cake dessert. He definitely got a cast compliment! DRINK The 2020 Epcot Food and Wine Festival had some great beer offerings, but Satu’li Canteen did as well. Dana had an Organic Blonde Ale from Orlando Brewing. It was light and refreshing on a humid post-rain summer day. Aimee had a Dreamwalker Sangria, which is a white sangria with a hint of blue curaçao. It was light and crisp, not overly sweetened. They were great beverages to go along with one of our new favorite places to visit at Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World. THAT’S A WRAP! Before the new Disney World Fastpass system you had to race walk to Toy Story Midway Mania or to Star Wars Jedi Training. Now you can just book these online using the My Disney Experience App. With Disney Fastpass+ you can book your Disney Hollywood Studios in advance. The Fastpasses are in a tiered system. Disney Hollywood Studios Fastpass Tier 1 Toy Story Midway Mania Rockin Roller coaster The Great Movie Ride Fantasmic The Beauty and the Beast Show Disney Hollywood Studios Fastpass Tier 2 Star Tours Tower of Terror Disney JR Live on stage Frozen Singalong Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular Muppets 3D Voyage of the Little Mermaid You get to pick ONE from Tier 1 and TWO from Tier 2. Fastpass Tip for Disney Hollywood Studios: If you are going on Disney Hollywood Studios the best all family attraction is Toy Story Midway Mania and this is a great fastpass selection. Also, Rockin Roller Coaster does have a single rider line which is a great way to avoid the long line at this attraction. Fantasmic is a nice fastpasss option, but remeber that you can not sign up for any additional fastpasses until you use your 3rd booked fastpass. So if you have booked Fantasmic as a fastpass you are not able to book more fastpasses until after Fantasmic ends, and then the park is closing.
