In this Hoopsology Podcast highlight, we're joined by Danny Cunningham (Locked On Cavs) for an honest, nuanced conversation about LeBron James' legacy, his standing with Cavaliers fans, and whether a potential return to Cleveland would even make sense. LeBron delivered Cleveland's first championship since 1964, cementing arguably the greatest moment in franchise history. Yet despite the iconic 2016 Finals run, his relationship with the city remains emotionally complex due to The Decision, his departures, and the Cavs' new post-LeBron era. Danny breaks down: Why Cavs fans are still divided on LeBron How loyalty plays a massive role in Cleveland sports culture Whether a LeBron return would help or hurt the franchise Why LeBron's defining NBA moments will always be in a Cavs jersey How LeBron's legacy compares to Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant What younger NBA stars may have learned from LeBron's Cleveland experience We also explore whether media nostalgia aligns with what Cleveland fans actually want, and if the Cavs' current young core has finally allowed fans to grow with a team again—rather than “microwaving” success.

“Trying to change that perception has been the most challenging thing post career…It was K-Mart the player and Kenyon the person. I didn't let a lot of people know Kenyon the person.” Kenyon Martin Sr The former NBA All-Star, No. 1 overall pick, and one of the most relentless competitors of his era, Kenyon Martin Sr. sits down with The Pivot Podcast for a powerful, unfiltered conversation about basketball, family, and the evolution of manhood. From his rise out of Dallas to leading the New Jersey Nets to back-to-back NBA Finals, Kenyon reflects on the edge and intensity that defined his playing career—and how that same fire often shaped how he was perceived. Now, with greater perspective, he opens up about the difference between being seen as a player versus being understood as a man. He opens up about the power of his voice now, how he strives to speak from experience and how his biggest post-career challenge is being able to show the world the difference from K-Mart the player vs Kenyon the person.... The conversation takes on new depth as Kenyon discusses watching his son, Kenyon Martin Jr., carve out his own NBA journey. He speaks candidly about fatherhood, pride, restraint, and the responsibility of letting your child become their own person while still standing firm in loyalty and protection as a parent. Beyond the game, Kenyon shares lessons on accountability, family-first values, standing on principle, and how growth sometimes requires rewriting narratives—both public and personal. This episode is about legacy, love, and learning when to pivot without losing who you are.
Nate and Danny tackle Western Conference mailbag questions from the Dallas Mavericks through the LA Lakers, digging into star-trade calculus, emerging young players, and which contenders really scare OKC and Denver.Dallas Mavericks — 0:55Is Max Christie's 65% true shooting for real, and if/when his shooting regresses, can he still be a starter on a championship team? How should Dallas value and time a potential Anthony Davis trade—what kind of package is “enough,” how much does the extension/player option risk matter, and is it better to move him now or wait?Given their place in the standings and draft-lottery odds, how low can Dallas realistically fall in the West, and how much does that affect the urgency to trade Davis?Would a Trae Young–for–Anthony Davis swap make sense for either the Mavericks or the Hawks in terms of fit and direction? How does the Derek Lively–Cason Wallace–Dāvis Bertāns draft-night trade look 2.5 years later for both Dallas and OKC, and which side would you rather be on now?Denver Nuggets — 17:57How has Peyton Watson grown offensively, and is he finally ready to be a reliable playoff-rotation player? Why is Zeke Nnaji still getting minutes over DaRon Holmes—are the Nuggets trying to pump up Nnaji's trade value, or do they genuinely see him as the better fit? What are Denver's best and worst potential playoff matchups in the first two rounds (with OKC assumed as the 1-seed and off the board)?Golden State Warriors — 28:40As in so many recent seasons, the Warriors hit mid-December around .500—what's the single biggest factor that can actually turn their season around? Is there any realistic “retool” path where Golden State trades some of the youth to become a legitimate threat again in games where Steph drops 40+ (e.g., moving Pods/Kuminga plus picks for a real starter)? Is the fan criticism of Brandin Podziemski this year justified—how good is he actually and what are his limitations? How much faith should we have in the Warriors' front office to build another contender post-Steph based on their track record? What's the most likely resolution with Jonathan Kuminga—do the Warriors still see him as a core piece, or is he basically just flotsam matching salary at this point? With Steph still playing at an elite level but the team stuck in the middle, are the Warriors really in an intractable “can't blow it up / can't contend” quandary, or is the path forward actually straightforward?Houston Rockets — 44:17If Giannis becomes available, should the Rockets not go after him this season because of OKC's dominance and instead wait to add another star later, or is this exactly the kind of opportunity you must seize? How much better would Giannis actually make Houston in the next 2–3 years compared with just riding out growth with Alperen Şengün and the current core—and is a Şengün-for-Giannis framework ever worth it?Is a core trio of Amen Thompson–Şengün–Giannis really viable given their combined limitations, and if so, who becomes the odd man out long-term?Is Reed Sheppard being misused when he's just parked in the corner while others run the offense—are the Rockets wasting his on-ball skills by treating him like a pure 3-and-D guard?Including possible trades, who is the bigger playoff threat to the Thunder this year: the Spurs or the Rockets?LA Clippers — 53:52Do the Clippers' struggles this season help them at all when the league decides Kawhi Leonard's punishment, or is that totally irrelevant to discipline? How much of the Clippers' disaster season is real underlying weakness versus bad clutch luck and opponent shooting luck (teams bombing threes against them)? What is the most likely course of action for the Clippers at the trade deadline—could they or should they do any kind of “firesale” given they owe so many picks? In hindsight, did the Clippers have the worst offseason—essentially gifting Miami an All-Star-caliber Norman Powell while signing a washed Brook Lopez—and how badly did that set them back? What are the realistic odds the Clippers can claw back to the 10th seed and at least mildly salvage their season?LA Lakers — 1:04:21The Lakers' record is great but their net rating is mediocre—what are their biggest weaknesses or needs, and do they actually play well enough consistently to reach the West finals or NBA Finals? In the MVP discussion, did you underrate Luka Doncic compared with Giannis—if you swapped their team contexts (Luka on the Bucks, Giannis on the Lakers/Mavs), how would that affect their cases, especially when you account for defense? With LeBron driving less and spending more time on the perimeter, would the Lakers' offense be better if they used him more in the post/elbow or as a handoff hub instead of having him just initiate from outside? Highlights: The Browns fan base is divided, with some calling for Kevin Stefanski's firing while others blame owner Jimmy Haslam and the "sabotage" of the Deshaun Watson trade. GM Andrew Berry's draft history is under scrutiny, with notable misses like Jedrick Wills but also successful trades, showcasing a mixed but promising record. Stefanski faces criticism for poor in-game management, clock-management issues and consistently failing special teams. Terry says there's a critical need for the Browns to acquire veteran players in the offseason to bring stability to the roster, especially on special teams and the offensive line. WR Jerry Jeudy has been a major disappointment, criticized for inconsistent play and a casual attitude toward crucial mistakes, labeling him a "liability." Rookie QB Shedeur Sanders shows potential and maturity under difficult circumstances but needs to improve on holding the ball too long, which has led to excessive sacks. Rookie kicker Andre Szmyt has emerged as a bright spot and a reliable long-term solution, hitting 18 of his last 20 field goals, including a clutch 50-yarder in harsh conditions. The Cavaliers are "stuck on the spin cycle" due to a plague of injuries to key players like Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen and Darius Garland, preventing team consistency. Donovan Mitchell's "Superman" role is considered unsustainable, with concerns that his heavy offensive workload will lead to burnout before the playoffs. A listener says that expectations for Evan Mobley may be too high; developing into a consistent 19-point, 10-rebound, NBA All-Defensive Team player should be viewed as a major success. The Cavaliers' offense is inefficiently reliant on three-pointers, ranking near the top in attempts but in the bottom third for percentage, failing to leverage their frontcourt strength. Terry says a deep playoff run for the Cavaliers is now considered a "long shot" due to significant injuries, an overworked Donovan Mitchell, and a flawed offensive strategy. The Guardians are remaining quiet this offseason, with significant roster additions expected to come via trade rather than through free agent signings. Former Guardians pitcher Triston McKenzie is experiencing a concerning career decline due to a severe case of "the yips," which has derailed his control and command. Terry recommends the book "1861" by Jay Winick for its compelling, character-driven narrative of the weeks leading up to the U.S. Civil War. Learn more about your ad choices. Perfection… it doesn't happen very often in sports. The '72 Dolphins are the only team to ever have a perfect season in the NFL. Mary Lou Retton nailed a perfect vault in the '84 Games to secure her Gold medal. Michael Jordan's Bulls were a perfect 6-0 in their trips to the NBA Finals. And in college basketball, it's been 50 years since a mens team went undefeated and won the National Championship. That team was the 1975-76 Indiana Hoosiers. Bobby Knight's team was a special group of players that sacrificed individual prowess for the good of the team. And it worked… to perfection. Kent Benson was a 2-time All-American at IU and on the cover of the December 1, 1975 issue of Sports Illustrated as the Hoosiers were the pre-season favorite to win it all. There would be no SI jinx on this team. They were too good. They were ready for the challenge each time they hit the floor thanks to an abundance of talent and a coach that had them prepared and focused like no other. And it was that preparation that separated this team from the others. Coach Knight said, “The key is not the will to win… everybody has that. It is the will to prepare to win that is important.” Led by Benson and Scott May and Quinn Buckner, the Hoosiers finished 32-0 that season… 33-0 if you ask Benson, who joins us on the Past Our Prime podcast and tells us that beating the defending Gold Medal winning Soviets should count in their final tally. But Benson is still the ultimate team centered center. When asked to come on our show to talk about that great team, he said yes… but he'd like Bobby Wilkerson, the 6'7 defensive specialist who would jump center for the Hoosiers to join him. And the two former #1 draft picks come together again on POP 50 years after they were a part of something that changed their lives for forever. The last team in college hoops to have a perfect season and if you ask Benson, probably the last one to ever do it. Benson and Wilkerson talk about that team and what made them such a close group. How beating UCLA in the season opener was just the beginning of this historic season and how their coach never took anything for granted and had them ready one game at a time. 32 games later… it all paid off. A perfect season. Bobby Wilkerson and Kent Benson on the Past Our Prime podcast. Listen and download a perfect show wherever you get your podcasts. Learn more about your ad choices. PJ and EMac are back after a short break with a brand new episode. Topics covered are the World Series, in particular the thrilling game 7 (won by the Dodgers 5-4 in 11 innings). We also get caught up on the 9-2, AFC East leading New England Patriots. After a round of Boston vs the world trivia we finish up with our re-watch of the 1984 NBA Finals, a classic battle between Larry Bird's Boston Celtics and Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's LA Lakers. Today we are discussing the second half of the pivotal game 5, played in the steamy Boston Garden on June 8, 1984.
Jim is joined by NBA analyst Mat Issa to discuss the hall of fame candidacy of former NBA forward Rashard Lewis. First, Jim and Mat cover Lewis' jump from high school to the pros and how it was a bit different than most (8:40). Next, they discuss Lewis' performance in Game 2 of the 2009 NBA Finals, what Lewis has in common with Carmelo Anthony, and just how rare his 3-point making ability at his height really was (13:30). Finally, they rank Lewis among the best forwards of the 2000s (32:50), before making a final call on whether or not Lewis belongs in the Basketball Hall of Fame (39:01).
The preview of Patriots-Buccaneers and the lack of confidence the national media has in New England. Was last Sunday's squeaker over the Falcons change the confidence those may have in the Pats? Then, Chris Price of The Boston Globe joins the show and shares who will be getting targets in place of Kayshon Boutte along with what a big win could do for Drake Maye. And, Arcand looks back on the World Series beating the NBA Finals in television ratings and circles back to one thing: dynasties.
What accounts for the astonishing streak of YIMBY wins this year — and which concessions, if any, should they consider offering to the NIMBYs? Should the center-left Abundance faction be trying to persuade conservatives and not just progressives? Do struggling places need more market-based solutions (high-skilled immigration, tax incentives for investing in low-income communities) or more straightforward redistribution and pubic investment (in infrastructure, job training, internet access)? Are liberals ceding too much ground to anti-immigrant sentiment? And should the most famous museums in the world stop hoarding their artwork? Live on stage at the Economic Innovation Group's annual Power of Place Conference in Washington, DC, Cardiff spoke with Slow Boring author Matt Yglesias about these topics and more. Matt also reflects on how things have changed since his two books, The Rent is Too Damn High and One Billion Americans, were released. They close with their respective picks for best movie of 2025 and the likely winner of the NBA Finals. Related links: Slow Boring The Rent is Too Damn HighOne Billion Americans Hosted on Acast. The Eagles come off their bye week for a Week 10 marquee matchup on the NFL Schedule, as they head to historic Lambeau Field for a Monday Night Football battle with the 5-2-1 Green Bay Packers. Jalen Hurts has led the Birds to a 6-2 start on the heels of a Super Bowl ring, and there were defensive reinforcements added to fold at the trade deadline, with high-energy edge rusher Jaelen Phillips and two cornerbacks, with the standout former-Packer, Jaire Alexander, and former-Jets defender, Michael Carter II. This game is crucial in the race for the NFC's top seed. AJ Brown was not traded, as again we see the fictional delusional stories and 'sources' of the national media exposed as frauds. DeVonta Smith is on a career-best season trajectory and the march to January is in progress for the Super Bowl Champions. The Sixers are young and exciting but still inconsistent, and certainly not Finals contenders, despite the phenomenal start from Tyrese Maxey and their exciting rookie Edgecombe. The Embiid era of dominance is well in the rearview, Paul George is a disaster of an acquisition, and the team has gaping holes compared to other East contenders. (11:13) Some thoughts on the latest news around the Red Sox, including Lucas Giolito and a qualifying offer and Jarren Duran's new deal. (25:44) A thought on the TV rating for the 2025 World Series and comparing them to the NBA Finals ratings from last summer. In the final hour of the show, Tobin & Leroy hear comments from Mike McDaniel from his press conference and he confuses us with his long drawn out answer about his message to his Qb Tua Tagovailoa. Tobin has been happy with the Heart early success but he is over the Nuggets owning the Heat and wants them to snap their losing streak in Denver. He starts lashing out because of the not winning in Denver since 2016. We have fun with Leroy about how they confuse him with NFL media personalities Ron Pitts and Charles Davis
On this episode of “Fearless,” Jason Whitlock is joined by Matt McChesney to discuss why he has gone from Deion Sanders' biggest defender to critiquing Coach Prime. The pair discuss issues with Sanders' coaching staff, whether his roster construction was flawed from the start, whether the Buffaloes are just one legitimate quarterback away from success, and more. Guest Danny Kanell joins the show to offer feedback on the McChesney interview, as well as to provide insight into the Dodgers' World Series win; whether Mike Norvell will survive this season at Florida State; if college coaches will revert to building a team base from high-school recruits; whether the NFL is anyone's season this year; if Matthew Stafford is the best pure passer in the league; and more. Steve Kim rounds out the show with commentary on Game 7 of the World Series garnering significantly more viewership than Game 7 of the NBA Finals, J.J. Watt and Taylor Lewan saying they won't pay for another streaming service to watch Monday Night Football, and Stephen A. Smith's cringe-worthy appearance on an advertisement for a solitaire app. Forceful show today — don't miss it!
