The book is called The Man Nobody Killed: Life, Death, and Art in Michael Stewart's New York.
The company that runs the Fulton Center mall told the MTA last month it wants out of its lease because of crime and homelessness issues. Westfield signed a 20-year lease with the MTA, but wants to exit operations at Fulton Center more than 10 years before the end of the deal, according to a lawsuit the New York City Transit Authority filed days after receiving the news from the mall operator. The Fulton Center shopping complex operates above a transit hub that services eight subway lines, and is the busiest subway complex in Lower Manhattan, according to the MTA. The transit hub opened in Nov. 2014 with Westfield and the MTA entering into its lease in May of that year. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/darien-dunstan3/message

Johanna's Social media and Website Facebook | LinkedIn | Website Johanna's Book My intention in writing this book is to share with you the story of my own trauma and the difficult, often circuitous and self-destructive path I took to acceptance, forgiveness, and love. First, tenuously, acceptance of those who had hurt me. Acceptance, in time, unfolded into forgiveness. The longer, harder path was to learn to love myself: it can be easier to love others than it is to truly love our own flawed, fragile selves. My hope is to show that suffering is not meaningless, and that, in fact, the very thing that brings us pain can, in time and with care, bring us a sense of liberation and purpose. I believe that inherent in suffering is an opportunity to transform pain and consciously use the experience as a progenitor of a new way of being, a new way of living, a new way of seeing the world, and perhaps being able to help others do the same. We are all unique individuals, many of us with deep wounds from our pasts. But we do not need to let those scars define, or defeat us. The shape of my life, including my career as a psychologist and specialist in community-wide crisis management, was imprinted on my psyche by traumatic events in my early childhood. My journey of self-exploration, of learning and deeply knowing myself, required, requires still, years of reflection and personal reckoning. Looking back at my formative years and experiences, my travels in search of spiritual meaning and comfort, and the arduous route to recovery from alcoholism, I know that all these elements in time formed my perspective, my work, and my very soul. While my life was filled with poor decisions and bad choices, my experiences created the tapestry of Me. Colored in hues dark and brooding alongside bright tones of lightness and hope, all threads twist and intertwine. I can no sooner disentangle this complicated tapestry now than I can predict its completion. Buy the Book Here

Welcome to another episode of The Procuretech Podcast! We're continuing our third series of conversations with industry leaders, which now releases twice a week. Procurement Media through the Years - Jon Hansen from Procurement Insights This episode, we've got a guest who's been talking about procurement for decades. With a long-standing blog and a podcast that goes all the way back to 2009, it's Jon Hansen of Procurement Insights – the original procurement podcaster. We're going to talk about everything that's changed in the world of procurement over the course of Jon's long-standing career. Jon's career as a long-standing procurement commentator Jon's been in the tech industry for more than 40 years, and procurement for almost as long. This has given him experience both as a practitioner and provider. One of his first business ventures was to start a company with funding from the government. It leveraged algorithms that allowed the Department of National Defence to procure indirect materials for their entire nationwide military installation base. He later moved to doing the same thing for the New York City Transit Authority. Jon sold that company in 2000, and that's when he began to shift towards blogging. He'd already had a lot of media experience from interviews in his role as a company founder. When someone in the media world said “why don't you start a blog?”, his first thought was “what's a blog?”. This was around 2007. By 2009, Block Talk Radio was launched in New York City. With guests from the world of business and procurement, it broadcast a deeper understanding of procurement to an entirely new audience, through an entirely new medium. Jon jokes that he's always had a face for radio, but he clearly had the talent to match: Some 900 episodes later, the monthly listener base was up to 15,000 a month. And that eventually dovetailed into where Jon is today with Procurement Insights. Was digital transformation a hot topic back then compared to what it is today? While it wasn't called transformation back then, it's interesting that a lot of the same issues were still being talked about 20 or 30 years ago. One of the biggest challenges in the procurement world was that the earlier platforms were ERP based. Procurement personnel and professionals weren't involved in the selection process of that technology. That was a Finance decision. So there was a great deal of frustration with the majority of ERP implementations. Not that ERP doesn't have a vital role to play. But back then the majority of e-procurement initiatives would fail miserably, costing 10s of millions of dollars. The emergence of the on demand or SaaS software was exciting. Because that started a shift away from a centralised, monolithic approach to automation, to one that was strategically effective and geared towards the procurement people. The interesting point, as we track this story over the last 10 or 20 years, is the value of human experience. In 2019, a Deloitte CPOE global survey indicated that the majority of CEOs were dissatisfied with the results of their initiative. Of course, their ERP technology was cumbersome. But ultimately it was the mindset and approach that was at fault. It was how to leverage that technology and implement it. That inspired the move from Procurement being a function of Finance, to being a key strategic player within the enterprise. And now we've learned that from the pandemic more so than ever before. It's caused organisations and people to look at the technology through a much different lens. In other words, you don't throw technology at something and expect it to fix everything. You have to have the right people in place. You have to decide on the right technology and understand how to utilise it effectively. You have to adapt the technology to your processes. Technology doesn't improve process. Process has to be improved using...

BlackFacts.com presents the black fact of the day for April 23.Inventor Granville T. Woods was born.He was known for devising a number of new electrical devices for the railroads. Within two years, he had become the ship's chief engineer. In all of the positions that he held, Woods experienced discrimination. Quantum Quote: “It's great to get people from point A to point B, but we should also look at ways to avoid harm in doing so,” said Renae Reynolds, “We need to move around. And so we engage in modes of transportation that, depending on how they are fueled, lead to impacts on our health and environment.” Renae Reynolds is the Transportation Planner for the NYC Environmental Justice Alliance and the statewide coordinator for Energize New York. Her work focuses on advocacy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector by electrifying New York's transit buses, municipal fleets, and medium and heavy-duty vehicles. In this episode, Renae shares the importance of understanding how transportation intersects with equity and public health in communities of color & low income. She discusses advocacy efforts to evolve public transit buses to clean energy across the state, while creating good jobs and transitioning workers who currently manufacture diesel buses into building cleaner electric buses. The advocacy started with pilot projects, first getting the MTA (the New York City Transit Authority, the nation's largest transit agency) to commit to transitioning its entire fleet to zero-emissions, all-electric public buses by 2040. A congestion pricing plan will now reduce traffic, improve air quality and provide a dedicated funding stream to improve the public transportation system, and neighborhood-based grassroots campaigns are making transportation improvements that equitably serve all New Yorkers. Supernova 1: “ElectrifyNY is a statewide coalition of advocates from environmental justice, environmental advocacy, transit, advocacy, and labor who came together to advance vehicular electrification. We focus on public transit electrification as a way to tackle the public health and the climate impacts that the transportation sector has in its emission of greenhouse gases.” Supernova 2: “A lot of things are challenging our communities. Greenhouse gas emissions are predominantly coming from the on-road traffic of diesel buses, trucks, and all kinds of vehicular traffic that traverse our neighborhoods. That means we have an extreme level of exposure to different pollutants, including fine particulate matter that has negative health impacts on our community. “ Supernova 3: “Predominant users of public transit are folks from low income communities and communities of color. We represent 75% of the ridership on the MTA fleet. “ Supernova 4: “We needed to engage with a large authority, the MTA, to secure that commitment. We did that through rallying and through cooperative meetings with the Authority. Similar activities will advance other fleet transitions.” Important Links: www.electrifyny.org , www.nyc-eja.org Connect with Renae Reynolds: https://www.facebook.com/NYCEJA/
